We ended up not ordering because there syrup options are very limited. My daughter didn't like anything. The lines get super long and in the middle of this heat wave standing outside for 15 mins to then find out they only have a very small amount of syrups really was a bummer!! Won't be back!
A friend who lives in Carlsbad, recommended this coffee shop and so glad that we went. We came on a Saturday at 10 AM so as expected, it was quite busy. There were about 8 people in line ahead of us, but it went pretty quickly. Gave us more time to think about what we wanted :) We got an Americano with oat milk and initially only ordered the smoked salmon sandwich to split, but my husband liked it so much that I got back in line and ordered this spicy Italian. Very fresh ingredients, the focaccia bread was lovely. There's lots of outdoor and indoor seating, but it does go quick since it's so popular! Will definitely be back!
A really nice new coffee roaster and cafe in San Marcos, right across from Craft Coast. The Americano and pour over are both really nice--super smooth espresso and obviously well-curated beans. The storefront is a bit unassuming, being part of a standard business park, but the interior is really nice and clean, and reminds me of Japanese coffee shops, and even looks somewhat like Longplay HiFi in Sherman Heights. The Pancake Syrup Latte is a very popular and tasty choice if you're looking for a treat--it's creamy, the coffee is still forward, and it's a slightly sweet without being saccharin. Does it taste like pancakes? Not exactly, but it's a well-balanced treat-like drink worth trying iced on a hot day.
LOVE this spot. Tons of seating, easy parking, and every drink we got absolutely slapped. I got the almond milk matcha which was creamy, balanced, not overly sweet. My friends got the vanilla oat milk cortado and the Honey Please latte with oat milk and both were 10/10 too! The baristas are super knowledgeable and personable. Such a solid coffee shop. Definitely a go-to when i'm in the area!
Loved this shop and how big it was on the inside and outside patio. Lots of bar space and small/big tables to work from with yourself or others. Outside has some shaded options and the coffee was amazing!! They definitely get some coffee rushes but line and drinks move out fast.
Tucked and hidden gem. Parking lot available. Nice open space with good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Gets very busy, but the crowd comes in waves. Drip coffee is good. Haven't tried their lattes, they don't offer any milks that I like (whole, oat, almond, half and half only). Praeger brothers baked goods -- the croissants are amazing. Pass on the scone.
PSL ftw! It's been a hot min since I've visited Steady State. Everyone has caught onto its deliciousness, so it's thankfully doubled in size and seating. The PSL extra hot is truly craveable and so delicious. It's perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and that lil sprinkle of salt really takes it over the edge.
Steady State is still my favorite for a dirty chai. Their chai is spicy and uber flavorful. This is no longer the small shop it once was and it's great to see they've expanded into the next building. The service has always been great, there's still plenty of seating inside, out, and around. Space Traveler is by far a classic roast, so we make sure and buy a bag each visit.
Great coffee shop in downtown Carlsbad that's easy to find, with a decently sized parking lot, so finding a spot wasn't a hassle. It was a little busy when I visited, but the wait wasn't bad at all. The employees were very friendly, and the interior is spacious with cute décor and unique wall art. The atmosphere was a bit too hectic for me personally, so I took my drink to go. I ordered the Rosemary Iced Latte and absolutely loved it. It was my first time trying rosemary in a coffee drink, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well the flavors worked together. I'd definitely come back and look forward to trying some of their other drinks.
Almost every time I'm driving down from LA to San Diego, or vice versa, I try and carve out time to pop into Steady State. I'm a bit of a coffee snob; I make my own espresso at home and have tried probably hundreds of different coffee roasters over the last few years, so third wave coffee is something I'm knowledgeable about and thoroughly enjoy. If I try a coffee shop that doesn't meet my expectations, I have no problems not returning, but with Steady State, they knock it out of the park and deliver consistent, tasty coffee each time. The staff are always really nice and prompt, and there's ample seating, too. Pop in, you'll love it way more than your typical chain!
Steady State is one of those spots that doesn't need hype because the coffee does all the talking. We tried one of their single-varietal pour-overs, and it was so fresh, clean, and balanced with subtle fruit notes that we literally went back a second time. This time for a single origin espresso and it was just as excellent. The space itself is large and airy, perfect for lingering without feeling rushed. You can tell the drinks are made with real care and intention. I also took home a bag of their Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, and I'm happy to report it brewed just as beautifully at home as it did in-store.
Steady State Roasting Has been a highly recommended coffee place that multiple people have recommended for over a year. I went on a coffee crawl in San Diego when SSR was first mentioned and a couple of months ago while at Achilles Coffee Roasting in Del Mar the barista mentioned SSR once again. I had to get here stat. After a jaunt by the ocean we walked quickly to Steady State Roasting. The atmosphere is comfortable, clean, in Carlsbad Village. There are cute places to sip your coffee or tea outside but we chose to sit inside. The storefront has all the tools you'll need to craft your own coffee at home, to be your own barista, if you wish. Scales, kettles, beans, cups, mugs, a beautiful spoon to use in topping your espresso with foamy milk, and so much more! Salmon shmear breakfast sandwich- beautifully balanced with tangy pickled red onions, crunchy crisp cucumbers, caper shmear all on a fresh Prager Bros focaccia bread. Oh my Lord! I had to share this sandwich with my friend who was the birthday girl. If it were any other day it would have been all mine! The baristas were super friendly and helpful. I ordered an iced americano and my friend an iced vanilla latte with almond milk. The baristas and staff had a well oiled process with plenty of workers to keep up with the busyness of a Saturday morning. Can't wait till I can make my way back to Steady Street.
The atmosphere of this place was very peaceful. I enjoyed my time inside waiting for my coffee. I ordered a latte (hot) and my husband ordered a flat white. The espresso in my latte was very nutty and complimented the milk nicely. They provide single origin, so that's a big win! Our drinks were crafted quickly and with care.
Stopped by for a quick latte. I loved the outdoor seating and how they offer you reusable glasses and cups if you choose to get it for here. I'm all for less waste! Rosemary latte - I've never had rosemary in a latte before but this was pretty good. The rosemary was subtle. The thing that impressed me the most was how smooth the latte was! The only thing is the portion - the latte was small considering the price point. There was also a lot of ice (the cup was completely filled with ice) so after 5 normal sips, the latte was gone. read more

I hadn't made my way back to Steady state since it was about half its size during the pandemic. The ambiance is great here with tons of natural light and spots to sit and chat. Some might miss this shop since it's tucked in a small shopping center, but it's kind of nice to have a lowkey shop to go to amidst the chaos of the village. The iced latte was great and had smooth espresso. Though the amount of liquid was quite small given the latte was $6.50+$1 tip, it is definitely yummy. They also have a ton of beans for sale here so you know they're legit! read more

Ordering was quick, and the ambiance was welcoming (lots of seating without feeling crowded; natural lighting and plants hanging from the ceiling). The Rosemary Latte had the herbaceous scent without any of the bitterness. I'd come back if in the area again! read more
I enjoy making the drive to steady state to grab a cup of coffee and a bag of coffee for the week. Jarmillo is my 2nd bagged coffee i have tried here and it is quite lite on the body but the sweetness from the flavor profile was the star --- flavors Service is outstanding - walk in , converse with the front register barista it's worth while they prepare your drink I ordered the PSL and the flavor of that coffee is Take a seat outside and enjoy your cup of coffee and take a deep breathe of the sweet sea breeze of Carlsbad read more
Really cozy vibes here! The scone was yummy, not too sweet. The chai was delicious and a good size! It was the perfect amount of spice for me. My mom got the cortado and said it's very good coffee. Kind staff, very patient. There's a bigger area to sit and study, I'll definitely be back here to study at some point. read more

I was so excited to try this coffee shop as it was highly recommended by my friend who's a local. The place was bright and spacious, and the staff were very friendly and inviting. I loved the aesthetic and the vibe that this shop had. They offered specialty drinks that I was beyond thrilled to try, as well as some pastries, merch and even coffee beans to take home with you. What we tried: Rosemary Latte - this one was lovely--it just had that perfect hint of the herb that wasn't too powerful. It was quite refreshing to the palate that I can drink 6 more cups of it. Honey, Please!! - more on the simpler side, but it was so well made that I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I also loved that the honey they used was locally sourced (from Vista). PSL (Pancake Syrup Latte) - this one was probably the most intriguing out of the three that I tried. The foam was salty, while the latte itself had a hint of cinnamon and maple syrup--all together, it was quite a unique sip. This coffee shop is definitely a must visit/try if you're around the area! And if you're the adventurous type who loves trying unique specialty drinks, then you should absolutely get the PSL. read more

On our quest to explore more coffee shops in North County, Steady State Roasting turned out to be a new favorite! What we got: Iced vanilla oat latte - this is my usual order at any place so I wasn't expecting much but they managed to make this one really smooth, creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness Hot pancake syrup latte - my husband got this one which has hints of maple syrup but not overboard Chocolate chip walnut cookie - I thought this one was a little dry but the more you eat, the more you'll like it. We appreciate that they serve everything in ceramic ware if you dine in there because I noticed that most coffee shops no longer do that. They also have a nice selection of house roasted coffee beans and the price points are reasonable. We'll definitely come back for those. All in all, nice cute cafe with spacious indoor seating and breezy outdoor area. read more
Such a popular spot!! There was a line out the door when I went (a Thursday morning) and the parking lot was full, so I had to find street parking. I usually drink Vanilla Lattes but decided to try one of their specialty drinks- it was quite good. The Honey Please latte wasn't overly sweet and still had a good coffee taste. The cinnamon on the top gives it a warm spice flavor which goes well with the drink overall. I like how they shake the latte up in a shaker (like a cocktail) so it creates a small layer of foam- reminds me of how an Espresso Martini is finished. Overall pretty yummy and I would come again. There's a good amount of seating inside if you ever want to do work or chat with a friend. read more
Steady State was a really lovely little beachside coffee shop. The staff was really chill and friendly, the lattes were good, and the environment was inviting and cozy. That is... if you decide not to walk a few blocks to the beach. The only really complaint I have is that the lattes are kind of small for the fairly high price. The quality is absolutely there, though. I'd gladly come back to this coffee shop. read more

First off when you're walking in, they're selling coffee station items with mugs, plates, drips, and burrs, etc. I got a latte with an extra shot and they added fresh cinnamon on top of my latte which is so good !! The coffee was also extra strong , something I loveeeeee and the ambience was cute! Coffee I took my coffee to go, but if you decide to dine in, they serve their coffee and the mugs that they sell. read more

Being my favorite coffee spot in Carlsbad is a hard title to claim when there's so many good spots. Steady State has done it! Friendly baristas, clean and chill environment with great music always playing, and good quality coffee, food and pastries. Definitely has become a part of my caffeine fix rotation! read more

Love the non-snobby vibes, strong Wi-Fi for working, ample working space, dedicated parking lot, proximity to shops and beach, and most of all, that they pour in mugs if you enjoy your drink there. Met my new fave coffee shop! Not as busy as vigilante in Oceanside and more tables as well as more tables than lofty. Will be back! My mocha was good too! read more

Amazing coffeehouse - great selection of beans (including a rotating single origin), interesting menu (featuring local honey, maple syrup, various spices - no boring industrial syrup and synthetic flavors here), and warm and welcoming service (even when the line is insanely long). The house espresso is aromatic, has body and depth, and the Anserma (Columbia) is incredibly rich and fruity, hits you like the tropical forest, with a charming fermented aroma...Extraction is spot on (no nasty over extraction bitterness). Thick, lasting foam. Strong ice cubes (no annoying ice chips in your coffee). I'm not a pour over person but even the pour over was very palatable. As far as the pastry goes, the morning bun and chocolate croissant were both alright. The right elements were there as far as ingredients and texture and they would've been great if served warm. I REALLY REALLY hope COLD croissant will be OUTLAWED one day. Decor is super cute, music is upbeat but not overwhelmingly loud. Puppies everywhere. They sell some cool merch too including pour over coffee stuff and clothing. THIS IS THE PERFECTION OF A COFFEEHOUSE (warm croissant please). read more
Loved this coffee shop. One of the best coffees I had in the area. Will be coming back for more. All the drinks and baked goods were just perfect. Their coffee game is top notch. You can get to choose between their regular espresso blend and single origin beans. Both were equally awesome although i would probably recommend blended espresso for most people. The staff is also friendly. The atmosphere is great. Dog friendly and human friendly. read more
This place has been my go-to for several years. The coffee roast is exceptional, service is amazing and now that they've upgraded their spot via expansion it's a chill vibe. It's about a 5 min or so walk from the center of carlsbad village and totally worth a visit. read more

I now know why this place is so popular! my mom tried her hot latte, and her eyes immediately widened from how good it was. my sister and I love our lattes too (honey please & yeah matcha). the staff were so friendly and welcoming. the only thing I don't like is that they don't have a location in OC :( the next time I'm back in Carlsbad, I know where to go for caffeine and a studying sesh read more
