I really love this place but this is the second time now that something has happened when I go there. First, couple months ago, I was left waiting for over 30 mins for a breakfast burrito, I thought they were just busy so I gave grace. I went up to ask the status and they told me the cook went to the store to get more tortillas...... didn't bother telling me or informing me. I directly reached out via IG and they gave me a $20 to come back, super nice of them!! Now, fast forward a few months, I had some time to myself this morning and wanted to enjoy coffee and a bagel. (Best sourdough bagels ever) it comes out and the jalapeños are completely blackened on the top like it was burnt to crisp, oh well I moved on and ate half. I began eating the next half and notice that they left the entire piece of paper on the cheese..... so now I'm left wondering did I just eat another piece of paper on the other side and didn't even notice?!! I take it in and tell them. They're super nonchalant about it and ask if I want a refund or another one. They ended up giving me a full refund and said sorry. Checked out this place after a friend of mine told me to try their sourdough bagels and wow probably the best bagel I ever had! They pretty much make everything in house which is a huge plus. Staff were great. They seem to get along with each other well. Small cafe but had a great costal vibe to it. Wait time can be long and they sell out of items fast so I think the "earlier the better" motto works best here. Definitely worth the trip! read more

Found this coffee shop on Yelp while i was in the neighborhood for an appoointment. The Bound Coffee shop has a modern and stylish vibe, has a clean and contemporary interior. Its a small place so not that much seating is available inside. Outdoor seating is also limited with just a couple of tables. The coffee was good (I had a latte), and the service was perfectly fine. However, the food prices are quite steep for a coffee shop. My lox bagel was $17.50, which felt high for the setting. I'd definitely come back for the coffee or a quick pastry, but I'll probably skip the full food menu next time. read more

Bound is the only decent matcha spot in Carlsbad, and previously would come 2-3 weeks because of how good the bagels are and convenience. However I am giving them a 1 star because of how upset I was abt my visit on 1/31/26. I usually do not wait that long for my order at bound; obviously varies with the amount of customers. I came in 2:00 PM with only one person waiting for their order before I ordered. 2-3 customers came after me. I waited 30 minutes for my order and all those orders before and after were made before I could even get mine- about 4 drinks. They had two workers and it took 30 minutes to get 2 matchas WITH ONE PERSON ORDERING BEFORE ME. Not only that the drink was not good and they forgot my cold foam. I am very sympathetic to workers at coffee shops with how busy and stressful it gets but I do not appreciate how little the workers care and how quick they are to blame "it takes longer to make matchas" when they were all goofing off and so rude. Compared to a spot like Hinar or airoma which actually gets a line of 30+ minutes I NEVER had to wait an unreasonable 30 minutes to get my drink. Moreover it is unreasonable to charge 10$ for a drink like theirs when you can go somewhere else like Hinar for 7.5$ (cold foam + syrup + matcha. For the trouble, I did ask for a discount and by the attitude of the workers they were barely going to grant me after waiting 30 minutes of my time. I will not be coming back to bound which is unfortunate as it WAS my favorite spot since moving here. I do not recommend coming to this spot with how poor their customer service is and how hit or miss the drinks are. read more

Delicious house made sourdough bagels and lattes! Best food we've had at a coffee shop in a while. The guava tart was also delicious, more savory and buttery with little filling. The strawberry bergamot scone was good at first, but the copious frosting made it too sweet about halfway through. Black coffee is usually what I like with pastries, but their black coffee was a bit too acidic for me. I was able to exchange for a latte without any issue. Parking was completely full in the shared lot. They have a very limited number of retail spaces in the shared building. However, there is plenty of street parking within a block. read more

My husband and I were driving by and finally decided to stop by and try their matcha/coffees. It was a little awkward trying to order as we were the only ones ordering and all the baristas were huddled together chatting instead of acknowledging us. When we did get service I asked if I could add a syrup to an iced matcha and they responded that they don't typically do that but they could. So I did ask for salted caramel in my iced matcha. My husband just ordered a plain iced latte. I really enjoyed my matcha as it was prepared correctly as a tea latte. I will say there was no sweetness to it and no salted caramel taste. No biggie because I drink plain matcha daily, just wanted to spruce it up since I was ordering it from a cafe. Oh well. My husband loved his latte! The espresso itself was so smooth. I'm testing a new theory...and it's that anyone who is willing to invest in a Slayer espresso machine, they care a lot about their beans. So stop two on my Slayer-theory tour is Bound Coffee Company. And so far, my theory is testing true. Bound has a very clean looking operation and I was in and out of there pretty quickly. Not sure what beans they're using but the espresso was excellent and shows that they take care in what they're serving. Cute spot. In the plaza across from Angelo's burgers on Coast highway. Very cool vibe, Greta service, delicious coffee very strong and I usually don't do sugar and wanted a bit fo sugar and cold foam to make it less strong. Which isn't bad thing at all Sea salt cold foam with their cold brew brings out the sweetness of the coffee and it was very good, different at first but then it grew on me in a good way Parking is a bit strange but besides that, great outdoor/indoor seating, fun music playing, prices are good, and their bagels are delicious crunchy outside with a soft inside. They have cute little things for sale when you first walk in and next to the register. Will be coming back to try their plain bagel because they ran out by the time I got there. I wouldn't recommend staying long since it is a small area and although it has some seating options, it can fill up quickly. The service was great, when me and my friends ordered, the lady would elaborate when asked about the drinks and food. 3 stars because the coffee is amazing, BUT service here has gone way downhill and gotten even slower as they have increased their offerings including offering more varied food. The ambience is cozy and probably needs expansion for seating/waiting because it takes a long time for your drinks and food. Also I have noticed that the staff has changed a lot over the years, and not for the better. The young ladies running the cashiers lately are actually rude and unfriendly. Honestly this used to be my go to spot for lattes for as long as they have been open (yes I have been visiting regularly since the very beginning) but recently the baristas are not as friendly and no one (including the owners) ever remembers me despite my many years of supporting their business. Note- I do see the owners and baristas talking to other patrons often, which makes me sad that I am still a stranger here. So for me, I will not be visiting as often. I held off leaving this review for the past year but it needs to be posted after a less than awesome experience today. Other coffee spots in the area are much much friendlier, have comparable coffee, and actually remember me even though I don't frequent their places as much. I know the owners care about their business but the slow and unfriendly service will catch up with the crowds that seem to be putting up with it for now. This is a very nice coffee shop and cafe. I visited for a while and enjoyed a cortado and scone. The cortado was properly made and served with some carbonated water as tradition dictates. The cortado was smooth and rich, but did have a little sourness towards the end. The scone was great! I really enjoyed its texture and flavor. I came with cranberries and some other type of currants that I could not figure but were tasty. The scone had a great crust on its exterior and was very soft on the inside. It was not as dense as typical English scone, but was delicious. I do recommend that they mix the mixture a little more because I did get a few heavy pockets of baking soda. The service was friendly at the counter. They had a good sense of humor. They breakfast as well. Seating is available inside and outside. read more

I am super bummed to update my previous good review. I still stop in periodically, usually once every 1-2 months since it's just across the street from me and I'd always much rather shop local than give my money to a massive corporation. Over the past year or so, however, I've noticed an uptick in employees that are unfriendly and seemingly annoyed to do their job. The coffee is still pretty good, but when the experience is so offputting - especially considering that they boast a "focus on prioritizing quality, great service and community," something's gotta change - either Bound addresses their customer service issues, or I'll just have to steer clear. About a week ago my husband, young child and I swung by Bound, super excited for a coffee and a breakfast to share on our way out for the day. All we ordered was two iced lattes and a burrito to split. We got our lattes pretty quickly but after 20 minutes of waiting for the burrito (time based on the receipt we had received via text message), my husband went up to check in on the status of the burrito. He had observed the cashier being quite friendly with several young female customers, but as he approached to ask he was rudely informed they were "working on it," while barely making eye contact. After 27 minutes, finally we had the burrito in-hand. Having been a part of this community my entire life, I have seen businesses come in and go out but the ones that really stick are the ones that truly value and appreciate their customers. Poor customer service and bad attitudes are simply bad for business. This is my favorite coffee place in the Carlsbad area. I always order an americano with a pump of vanilla and half and half and it is perfect every time. It gets better and better as it cools off also. The real star, though, is the sourdough bagel with cream cheese. I dream of this bagel and never leave town without one. I will say I am not a huge fan of their cold brew, but everything else is so incredible it does not take any stars away for me. The ambience of the shop is clean and cute. Highly recommend. We come to stay in Oceanside a couple of times per year for my Bday trip. We stay at an air b&b close to Bound, and I enjoy walking over, getting a coffee then walking to the beach. Ambience is adorable, food (burritos) aren't great, but coffee is normally good. Service has been decent in the past, but not this visit. We're chill people and we have manners, and I worked in retail, restaurants & bars a LONG time, so Im always extra respectful of workers in food service. I'm not sure why we were greeted with apathy and just a lack of caring that we're standing there at all. Felt like an inconvenience to the baristas to order. I ordered an iced coffee with oatmilk, which was decent. My fiancé ordered a hot chai latte with regular milk, and it wasn't until we got halfway to the beach and he took a sip after letting it cool off, that he told me it wasn't a chai. I took a sip - it was just hot steamed milk and tasted sour. I was pissed we'd spent $13 on 2 drinks and one was bad steamed milk. I will probably not come back. I only leave 5 star reviews btw - this is the first and hopefully only bad one. But this place needs help. read more

It included; breakfast burrito, bacon Egg & cheese bagel, croissants, avocado toast, sourdough bagel, chicken Cali burrito and more. They also have fresh baked pastries. For drinks, they have both coffee and tea. We ordered; -2 (16 oz )Iced salted caramel latte - Americano for my husband Then we got two fresh stawberry lemon scones. The iced salted caramel was heavenly. It had the perfect balance between the salty taste and the sweetness and rich flavor of caramel. The americano had rich aroma and was silky. The scones had perfect texture. They were flaky and had the adequate flavor of both strawberry and lemon. The service was fast and outstanding. I am glad we visited Bound Coffee Company. The coffee they make is superb; fortunately, I got to try a sage and pumpkin specialty coffee. The second time I went back, they had already moved on to another creation. But back to the food... The bagels and lox are the best I've had on the West Coast, and I used to live in New York City for some time, so I can honestly say I know what a good bagel tastes like! This "Geshmak" bagel and lox came with cream cheese, pickled onions, cucumbers, capers, and FRESH dill. It was a party in the mouth! The service was friendly. Expect to spend at least $7 on one drink. they charge extra for the cold foam, breve, alternative milks, syrups, etc. I have yet to try their homemade bagels, but my friend really enjoyed the breakfast burrito. I studied here once on the weekend and there isn't very ample room for many patrons. The tables are quite small, a bit tight for two people with laptops but we were still able to study/work + it's not too loud inside. My review is based solely on the coffee. I can't speak to the quality of its fairly small food menu. That said, there's a lot to like about Bound Coffee. It is a pleasant, inviting space--set in a small business building whose ground floor is mostly retail shops. There is a table outside, but as it sits right on a rather unprepossessing parking lot, the interior is the place you want to be. Inside, it is light and airy, boasting a number of small tables and a long bar facing westward towards the street and the lagoon beyond. It's a great place to get work done, if you like taking your business to cafes. The service is pleasant as well. They are not the fastest baristas around (and I understand on weekends, things can be very slow), but that is fine when waiting for a quality espresso drink. On the occasions I have been to BC, it has always been on a week day, and service has been relatively quick. Where I had hoped for more was in the coffee itself. My experiences have consistently found two issues with their product. First, the coffees inevitably seem to be thin. There isn't much richness of flavor. This, I suspect, may be the beans they are using, but it may be any of a number of factors. Second, the mouth feel is not great. Any espresso drink, especially those with milk (I am a cortado and macchiato guy, with lattes on occasion), should have a more velvelty, fuller texture. For whatever reason, this is consistently lacking. Lastly, I also have one small nit to pick: sweeteners. They only offer raw sugar, which does not dissolve particularly well, and stevia, whose minty flavor really clashes with coffee. This seems to be a common practice amongst many SoCal cafes. My advice? Offer something else. Overall, I like this spot. Bound Coffee has real potential, but needs to spend a bit more time troubleshooting their main offering. read more

Thank God for a decent coffee house in north SD county! It's more than decent it's freekin refreshing. The vibe is like NorCal hippie vibe with the sleepy indie music and the cutesy/earthy decor. The baristas are friendly and don't mind customizing your drink. I got a salted caramel latte half sweet and it was just right. You can tell they make their own syrups and don't use torani. I also got the peach scone and it was FIRE. I think their pastry chef studied in France that's how good it was. It was the right crunch:moisture ratio and the peaches tasted like they were picked from the backyard. Not too sweet. It makes me believe in scones again. We have been going to this coffee shop since it opened. The husband and wife who own it were always welcoming and kind. The food is delicious, the breakfast burrito is one of the best I've ever had and all the coffee drinks are yummy. Everything is really fresh and homemade, which is great! However, the customer service has consistently gone down hill. For example today, I placed an online order because I had my baby with me and wanted to grab breakfast and head out fairly quickly. The order said it would be ready at 10:40. I got there a few minutes before 10:40 and in most places the order is ready and waiting for you to grab and go. In this case, the order was not ready, (which not a big deal I'll wait since everything is so fresh), instead it seemed as if I interrupted all four employees standing, talking, and laughing. No "Hi, welcome in" and no one even attempting to get the order made. I then had to wait another 10 min for them to make it. Unfortunately, this is not the first time we've felt uncomfortable and like we were interrupting and bothering the employees. I hope the customer service improves so we can feel comfortable to continue to visit one of our favorite coffee shops. read more

I genuinely believe Bound Coffee is one of the best if not THE best coffee shop in north county. My family and I have been coming since it first opened and we have not stopped since. Although we love it, we have been disappointed many times. First, this place rarely has stock of their bagels, how are you as a business out of bagels at 10:30 am on a Thursday and you close at 3pm??? I understand running out on the weekends especially bc this place has blown up recently but let's be honest, people are coming here for the sourdough bagels which they never have enough of. In comparison, I have been to Apollo bagels in NYC with the line wrapped around the entire complex and they somehow never run out of bagels. So I'm trying to understand why Bound can't provide enough product for their little community of customers that are extremely loyal to them. I felt better after reading reviews addressing employee attitudes, but unfortunately my experience has been consistent. I come here 2-3 times a week, always order a bagels (plural) to go, and every time I ask for a bag which feels like a pretty basic expectation. Instead, I'm met with the same employee in the back rolling her eyes or making a visibly frustrated face over a normal request. For an almost $7 bagel with cream cheese, asking for a bag should not be treated like an inconvenience. I'm obviously not going to hold bagels in my hands while driving it let them just be out and slide. This isn't a one-off interaction it's repeated. A little professionalism and courtesy would go a long way. It's really not that serious. Just give the bag and move on. My wife and I finally got around to trying this place. It's been on our list for awhile and we're glad we we visited. The decor is very chic. It's not a huge coffee shop, but there is ample seating. My wife ordered the peach cardamom latte and I ordered a cappuccino. It wasn't very busy but we did end up waiting longer than expected. We weren't in a rush so it wasn't a big deal. We loved both our drinks. My wife really enjoyed her latte and I appreciated that the cappuccino had a decent amount of milk foam. A lot of places do way too much or not nearly enough and Bound coffee was just about right.
