It's conveniently located on South Coast Highway...really easy to get to. There's ample parking which is always a good thing. Inside is spacious with a laid-back skateboard vibe to hang out with friends or do some work. The staff are FANTASTIC!! I wish we would have gotten the barista's name who rang us up- but he was just spectacular. My mom has an autoimmune disease and some days are just harder than others in terms of us getting out of the house and enjoying some mother-daughter time. All chia pudding is vegan friendly and they had several flavors. I would have purchased more at the time if they were just a tad cheaper. I will need to go back for more! They also had several pastries. There was only one vegan option that I recall- a vegan poppyseed muffin. I didn't get to try it on these visits but would like to soon! We were pleasantly surprised to find a direct importer and roaster of tasty beans that fit the bill. Just one hint: don't show up unannounced. The hours on Yelp show them open only one morning a week, and their own web site suggests you call ahead to request a tasting or cupping session. I missed that part and found a locked door. At home, though, their beans make some really tasty coffee in our automated espresso machine. To get the best balance, I first coarsened the grind but ultimately reduced the brewing temp a bit. Definite notes of cocoa and dark chocolate. We buy online. Beans are shipped UPS with tracking. Online ordering from their web site may be the easiest way to find out what Coatl has to offer.

I stay in town for business 5-6 nights a year.
