Great coffee beans! We've been looking for a source for "bird friendly" shade-grown organic coffee. We were pleasantly surprised to find a direct importer and roaster of tasty beans that fit the bill. Just one hint: don't show up unannounced. The hours on Yelp show them open only one morning a week, and their own web site suggests you call ahead to request a tasting or cupping session. I missed that part and found a locked door. At home, though, their beans make some really tasty coffee in our automated espresso machine. To get the best balance, I first coarsened the grind but ultimately reduced the brewing temp a bit. Definite notes of cocoa and dark chocolate. We buy online. Beans are shipped UPS with tracking. Online ordering from their web site may be the easiest way to find out what Coatl has to offer. read more

This is my favorite local coffee hands down. I have been buying Coatl coffee at the farmers market and finally made my way to the store front. It's my favorite coffee for my espresso machine at home and it turns out to be a rich, chocolately tasting extraction. It's very reasonably priced around $12 a bag which usually lasts me 2 weeks (with 4 shot lattes every day ‍) The staff is always super personable and remembers customers which is a nice touch. I regularly see Christian at the farmers market days who was the one who walked me through the different roasts. Google maps directed me to the back service door so be aware there is a front entrance in the main parking lot! They offer a few chairs and snacks but it's primarily their warehouse. Glad I could buy some beans outside the farmers market days. 12/10 recommend Coatl coffee for your next bag of beans. read more

They should make sure they're not listed as if they are a coffee place online in which case they could be evaluated as a coffee shipping place instead. No big deal. I think I just found my new favorite local coffee shop! Now if they can just get some vegan pastries I'll be in heaven! They roast their own beans here and during the week M-F 7 am-4pm you can pick up your own tasty coffee. This little gem is hidden towards the back of a shopping center with plenty of parking. I can't tell you how excited I am to have good coffee that isn't Starbucks! The prices are fair and the staff is very friendly. I also got to try a sample of their cafe de La olla which is pretty delicious too! I want this place to stay here FOREVER! We need small businesses like this in the area. What a hidden gem! Stopped by Coatl this morning and we were pleasantly surprised. They're a roastery located in an unassuming strip mall/business plaza, and they're roasting up fresh beans from the Chiapas region of Mexico. The owner is so kind and informative. He gave us a sample of their award winning cold brew to try while he was making our lattes, and we don't usually drink coffee black but this was so rich and flavorful with notes of chocolate, nuts and cherries- it didn't need any sugar or milk because it was so smooth. Their signature drink is the mazapan latte, and he was telling us he likes to add chocolate to make it like a peanut butter cup or strawberry syrup to make it like a peanut butter jelly sandwich so we had to go for that since it's something so unique! And they really did taste like pb&j! One of the best lattes either of us has ever tried! The best thing is that they weren't too overwhelmingly sweet, and you can still taste the actual coffee. I could still taste the rich nutty, chocolaty notes of the arabica + robusto blend, and the owner explained how even with just the 5% of robusto you get an energy boost that'll last through the day but not keep you up all night. No wonder "I Am Your Energy" is their tag line - I really do feel energized, but amazingly not jittery! So glad we found this place! read more

This is a cute little place! Nice and neat. They have been packaging and selling their beans wholesale and have decided to open up for the public. I ordered their mazapan latte and it is delicious it's not too sweet and you can really taste the beans and a hint of peanuts. They also serve croissants and muffins. I highly recommend this place! Came here on a sleepy Wednesday afternoon and in desperate need of caffeine. I loved the Mexican-inspired theme and I decided to order Marzapan coffee since I never had coffee in this flavor. The Marzapan coffee did not disappoint. It had a nutty, creamy texture and tasted almost like the candy except a little less sweet. Dorian and Luis were also super nice and I liked that I didn't have to pay until the end of my service. I also ordered a bag of coffee beans, which was around $15. I highly recommend Coatl Coffee if you are in the area. They have good coffee and service. read more

Gosh. #1 this place has incredible coffee. Sure, it's local (roasted & owned in Oceanside!) but it's also Organic. More importantly it's bird friendly. What on earth does that mean? Think back to the days before Starbucks. I can't because I'm a 90's kid, but as the owner tells me in Mexico and South America it used to be that coffee was grown by local farmers in smaller batches. Nowadays though, there's so much demand for coffee by large chains that quality falls to the wayside. They'll go to these remote villages and offer to buy ludicrous amounts of coffee, no care in the world for quality. In response, the farmers clear cut land and grown a plethora of the same beans to meet targets. The coffee then gets roasted, near burned & processed to compensate for the lack of quality - because consistency is demanded. Why do you think the coffee in every chain coffee shop tastes the same all around the world? Back to birds. It's this clear cutting of land to make way for massive coffee production that harms unique species of birds. They simply do not and cannot live anywhere else in the world. Want to learn more? This "bird friendly" certification, guided & sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute (yes those people with the cool museums!) makes Coatl coffee a tier above the rest, including your regular organic coffee. Great coffee place that roast their own beans on site! A great array of seasonal drinks, if you like your drinks sweet I would ask for extra sweetened. Strong blends of coffee, and they even have bags available for purchase. Their location is a bit hidden but their front entrance is in the parking lot not in the back as google maps takes you. read more

Stopped by for a quick coffee passing through Oceanside and ended up going with a cold brew red eye. First off, the barista was very knowledgeable and creative with the menu.
