My first time here. I have a ritual of going to a different breakfast spot, but I thought of trying something new. I was not impressed. Now the staff is very friendly and helpful. But the food, was not good. I do think it's nice you can eat inside or outside on the patio. They allow dogs on the patio too which is nice for those pet parents. My friend got the biscuits and gravy , scrambled eggs and sausage and bacon. The eggs didn't taste like eggs. The gravy was chunky and did not have the flavor expected. The best was the bacon and sausage. I had the Belgian waffle (which the website says they have a half order but they don't). It was chewy and tastes like coffee. The berries were bitter, bananas were great along with the whipped cream. The eggs didn't taste not taste like eggs. Great family breakfast experience. It's a real family style location with a variety of menu options, all of which are excellent. We ordered the chilaquiles with short stack, avocado toast, chicken and waffles, crepes, American breakfast with a side of biscuits and gravy. Everything was well prepared and good. Everything always goes well! When we visit Oceanside, Harbor House is always our breakfast choice for the next morning. It was the marathon weekend and it was busy but we were seated and immediately taken care of within about 20 minutes. The food is quick and there are SO many choices. My first time attending a board meeting here in the patio. The service was excellent as we were a group of about a dozen. The service was quick and friendly. The servers made sure our beverages were refilled and our needs taken care of. We all ordered breakfast and I had the chorizo with eggs and it included a side of flour tortillas and hashbrowns. The tortillas were very warm the way I like it and the chorizo and eggs were not greasy; the hashbrowns were very crispy. I was so happy to find this place!!! I had a medical appointment that went over because I unexpectedly needed X-rays, but I had an urgent meeting to get to and needed WiFi stat. Usually Starbucks can handle me but there was no indoor option and construction was underway, so I booked it across the street to Harbor Cafe in hopes they could help me - and they did!!! I was pleasantly surprised over their eggs with chorizo and I would take their coffee over Starbucks any day. The waitress made sure to refill it proactively when she saw how stressed I was, and even gave me a to-go mug with a military discount on the bill without me even having to ask. Had an excellent experience here! The chicken fried steak was delicious, the portions were generous, and everything came out quickly. My server Grace was especially attentive, friendly, and hardworking, and made sure I had everything I needed throughout the meal. You could really tell she cared about giving a great experience. This place used to be really good. Pork chops were cooked into little bricks. The coffee cake changed, not as much flavor. The fish and chips over cooked as well. Rock hard. When I complained they said they would tell the cook. $130 breakfast and we all left still wanting something. We wont be back. Second time here. Again I didn't care very much for what I had, wouldn't order it again but somehow it was good enough that I will be back to try something else. This time I had the Cobb salad. Unfortunately it was very plain for a Cobb and I couldn't figure it out until I was half way through and realized they omitted the blue cheese which is a big part of a Cobb in my opinion. The coffees came half filled, presumably leaving space for cream, but I just drink it black. There were lots of good breakfast and lunch options to choose from on the menu, and prices are very reasonable. They also have monthly specials offered throughout the week. This is one of those places that you can go to that has a variety of foods to choose from. On this day I came through with a group of 8 people. They do automatically add the gratuity on large parties. We held a meeting and stayed for 3 hrs out on the patio. The wait staff are really nice and we never feel rushed. Today I had the BLTA with onion rings. I loved the sandwich & the onions were good. I saw someone order the coffee cake and had to order one myself. It was so good (I highly recommend). Can't say enough good things about this place! Came in Sunday morning at prime time busy time with 13 people and they accommodated us immediately. They sat us and the service unbeatable! The ladies were kind and funny and had wonderful banter with us! The food was amazing had a delicious omelette and the country potatoes were delicious! We found 2 tables that could be pushed together that were perfect. The said no. We asked again and in one second they put it together after wasting time cleaning the big table. I haven't been here since 2004; all I remembered was that they used real fruit on their waffles and that was huge for me. Flash forward to last weekend; we had family out from Arizona and we wanted a casual, homey spot away from the super-busy, tourist attracting, gentrified parts of the coast. It wasn't busy at 10 am; we got seated quickly on the covered patio. I ordered the corned beef with home style potatoes and the coffee cake. Everything was fresh and of good quality. The corned beef came cooked with potatoes (read: less meat is served) but I would definitely order this dish again. A huge plus is the doggie bowls all over the patio- I can bring Cali with me and sit at the high-bar. I didn't notice a puppy menu but she can always eat beforehand. Service was just okay; one person didn't know the menu, our server was polite but inattentive (had to ask for drinks numerous times). The flies came en masse as soon as the food was dropped- I wish they had a better management system for them. Overall, this is one of the last hold-outs (I miss all the breakfast nooks near Coast Hwy- anyone remember BC/DC, Longboarder, etc) and I will happily support this small cafe. We had such a great experience at this restaurant! My mom, grandma, and I stopped by for a meal. Everyone was so attentive and genuinely friendly--it made us feel very welcome. I ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich(amazing), my mom ordered the french dip (delicious) and my grandma ordered the steak and eggs. While everything else was delicious, the steak initially came out lacking flavor. When Diego stopped by to check on us, we let him know. He immediately took action, brought the plate back to the kitchen, and assured us they would fix it. Shortly after, Diego returned with a new plate, personally apologized, and the second steak was perfect--flavorful, juicy, and cooked just right. We really appreciated the effort and care they put into making things right. Great food, even better service. When we got there, there was only one person working on the floor (it was 9:30am on a Monday). After waiting for a while, we finally ordered. I tried the biscuits and gravy it was okay but I've had better. My wife had the French toast, it was amazing. And my daughter had the BLTA (BLT with avocado), which must have been pretty awesome because she ate the whole thing. All in all, it was okay. I wouldn't go out of my way to he here again. I wish there was a way to give this restaurant zero stars as it was likely the worst food I've ever tasted in my 50+ years. The only bright spot was my server who kept it 100% with me when asking questions about the menu... thus the 1-star rating. Food: 1. I ordered the homemade cinnamon roll. It was jam-packed with cinnamon, which I love. However, the entire roll is drowned in sugar icing. In fact, it is served in a bowl & the icing covers the entire bowl about halfway up the cinnamon roll. I think this item will turn a healthy person into a diabetic instantly. 2. On the recommendation of my server, I ordered the Carne Asada Chiliquites. My server said it was one of the only flavorful items on the menu. They said the beef is good (over the chicken) as it comes from their own butcher shop, so it's fresh. Now if you consider old beef jerky fresh, then this may be your get down. The beans at the bottom of the dish tasted like they were poured directly out of a can as you could taste a very salty metallic flavor. I actually got dizzy after taking a bite of the beans as I believe my blood pressure spiked as a result of the salt. The beans, sauce & carne asada were all inedible. My eggs were cooked as requested & the homemade salsa was decent. 3. My partner ordered the Big Rig breakfast consisting of 2 pork chops, eggs & potatoes. Mind you, the server told us that the cooks do NOT season the food, so everything is very bland. They referred to the restaurant as "Heaven's waiting room", explaining that their patrons are mostly elderly. The server recommended getting the country potatoes over the hash browns as they would contain peppers & onions. The server delivered the food with every hot sauce option available in the restaurant, without requesting it... knowing how bland it would be. The potatoes tasted boiled instead of grilled. The eggs were bland. But the pork chops were old. The chops tasted to be cooked several days earlier, refrigerated & then reheated. They were as hard as hockey pucks and lacked any flavor. The English muffin was just sliced open & served. It was not toasted & tasted doughy. The entire meal was inedible & the server was kind enough to take it off of the bill. Service: My server was honest & I appreciated that. The second they told me that the cooks don't season the food, I should have known better & left. They said that the cooks would, however ownership will not allow them to do so as they want to highlight the flavor of their meat from their butcher shop. If the meat was freshly cooked, it may have been slightly better, but my experience was they are using old food. This is a shame as it's a cute restaurant in a growing tourist area & with a smaller menu & better food, it could really do well. I suggest avoiding this restaurant at any cost. It's expensive & the food sucks! If you're looking for a similar menu, I hear Don's Country Kitchen a few miles down the road is pretty good. read more
