With so many places to imbibe in Oceanside, I realize how competitive these places have to be to stay in business so I have to admit, my standards are fairly high. My husband and I stopped in to Frankie's on a recent Saturday at 5pm. Our kiddo had a performance down the street at 6pm so we had a little time to kill beforehand. The neighboring spots looked busy so we decided to go with Frankie's, seeing as they were less inundated at the time and we had a time constraint. Another allure was the sandwich board at the front door advertising discounted cocktails - sold!! Inside there were a handful of patrons at the bar, another table with two additional patrons and maybe a couple on the patio so it was fairly quiet and slow, so it looked promising. We headed up to the bar and hung out behind two empty barstools, the single female bartender greeted us and said she'd be right with us, but then continued chatting up the seated patrons, serving them and their friends that had just joined (AFTER we'd arrived). We moved a little further down to the handoff area where she was making drinks to save her having to come back to us again, and stood there for probably 10 minutes while she took orders and made all the drinks. We commented that she looked like she could definitely use a hand, and she said they were still adjusting into summer hours and determining whether more coverage was needed at this time - I figured 5pm on a Saturday should be primetime, so I'm not sure in what universe having a single bartender makes any sense. Finally we placed our cocktail orders, waited while they were made, and then put our card down for the tab. After we'd paid, I noticed the cocktails were more expensive than advertised on the sandwich board out front - I couldn't find a disclaimer anywhere that said only certain cocktails were included, so while it was a bummer I wasn't about to wait another 10-15 minutes to catch her attention and ask for clarification. Just a heads up to beware of whatever is advertised that might summon you in from the sidewalk, and make sure you ask before you make your selection. Drinks were very subpar, nothing special to write home about. While I can appreciate the Gatsby-esque vibe they're trying to uphold at Frankie's, they really should increase their staffing especially during prime weekend and evening hours, and be more transparent about their specials and what's included and what's not. Hindsight is 20/20, and the low volume of patrons when everything else around it was going off was probably a sign, so we'll skip Frankie's our next go around. read more

Absolutely awful and unsafe - reasons listed below 1. The bartender Dane (long haired male bartender I might have the name wrong) spiked my water with vodka and only after being very off put by the taste (I had my friends try the drink, I've been drugged before and if anything tastes off I'm overly cautious) when he came to ask if I liked my "water" he admitted to adding vodka to it and treated it as if it was a joke. This happened few months ago and I tried to give it a few more chances as this one of the only higher end cocktail lounges from Oceanside. 2. Last night I witnessed extreme domestic abuse at the bar, the bartenders allowed it to happen and did nothing. Just a great place to get cocktails! North County tend to close a bit early, so having this place to go to is awesome. There seems to be a good number of regulars and they are always friendly and happy to chat. I also love that the bartenders (I would only do this on nights that aren't super busy) are able and willing to create drinks for you based on your preferences. read more

I went with the black Manhattan and it was amazing. My wife got the redrum and it was a fun refreshing drink. Alexia makes you feel right at home behind the bar, super personable, quick with a smile, and she remembered my drink after just one order. Asa was just as awesome, fast, creative with cocktails, and clearly knows his craft. The drinks were perfectly balanced and came out fast even though the bar was busy. Frankie's bar is one of latest additions to the Downtown Oceanside drinking scene and they are definitely adding to the diversity needed. Frankie's is part of the recently developed Brick Hotel conglomerate. While they are not DIRECTLY associated with hotel itself, they work WITH the hotel to provide an additional experience for their guests. Frankie's is located in Downtown Oceanside, just west of The Brick Hotel. They have a petite, yet nice patio available for seating, as well as, inside seating that offers comfortable booths, high tables & bar seating. The decor is very distinct & unlike any other in the area. It almost lends itself to a quaint, upperclass tavern with low lighting, faux crystal chandeliers, brick walls and wall paintings of women in risqué attire. Their rounded booths are SUPER cozy & coveted. Bar seating is also comfortable, yet crammed. The high-tables are ok and just big enough to place your drinks down & maybe an appetizer platter in the center (more about food later). But the highchairs, while sturdy, are very hard. I can also appreciate that their patio seating allows for this who have dogs. The ONLY ding I can think of for their ambiance is that the music CAN be a tad bit loud at times and folks have difficulty hearing each other. On the bright side, their music playlist is so diverse and I love it. I've heard everything from R&B, NeoSoul, LoFi and even Hiphop. The songs are typically melodic and make for a great atmosphere. One can also see the volume as a legit excuse to be closer to date or person-of-interest Just be aware that I wouldn't consider this place romantic. They have a simple bathroom setup (for men) with 1 stall & 1 urinal. I've noticed that it can get neglected when understaffed. Because they don't serve food themselves, Frankie's allows for food to be ordered from the hotel restaurant next door (Q&A Oyster Bar). The Q&A is known for their oysters and their Louisiana-Cuisine; all of which just adds to the uniqueness of the customers experience. Just ask for a menu and order with the bartender. Service here can be a tad tricky. This is because they typically have 1-2 staff at any time. Usually though, the 1 bartender can actually manage the crowd well if it's not too busy. But if it gets slammed, then expect to be waiting a while for a drink or service. I typically sit by the bar, where I can get served faster, but then I'm running elbows with folks. Perhaps one of the only downsides to Frankie's is lack of parking. But this is not their fault in-particular, it's an issue with Downtown Oceanside. This and being aware that the drinks average around $16 or $10 during Happy Hour. Overall, I love the hours of operation for Frankie's and they're even opened until 12AM on Sundays. I recommend passing through here for that "after-dinner" drink if on a date or if it's late at night and you don't want to go to a dive bar. read more

I've been coming here for awhile now for a nice cocktail and good vibes. The ambiance in here is exactly my type of place, from the tufted couch seats to the beautiful aesthetic bar and always fantastic music. It makes me feel so comfortable and relaxed. It's a nice vintage takes eclectic feel. Id like to make it apparent that people like Asa make this place exactly what it is, not only a good place to drink but a nice experience. The new menu is fantastic with unique flavors and new spins on drinks, whatever it is you need from Asa he will deliver. The drink Red rum has me coming back any chance that I get!! It tastes like candy and makes you feel great. He can curate anything you desire into an amazing cocktail, happily. I really enjoy coming here and recently found out I can bring my big dog to chill and vibe too. Close to the beach- right in the heart of the Oceanside sunset market on thursdays. Just a note that this place does not serve food, only drinks. So make sure to grab some food before you come here. It's a bit dark inside and there's usually only one bartender when we go, but they do a great job at making drinks in a timely manner. During one of our visits, we did have an uncomfortable interaction with one bartender. After closing out our tab, we crossed out the "tip" portion on the check because we were planning to leave a cash tip on the table. However, a few moments later, the bartender approached us questioning as to why we did not leave a tip. This interaction made us extremely uncomfortable We have visited Frankies before and have never experienced this issue. In fact, we have never had a bartender approach us regarding a tip. Dropped by for HH on a Sunday right when they opened. They weren't very busy so we were able to grab 4 seats at the bar right away. Their HH cocktails are very reasonably priced and delicious! Almost inevitably when we come here, it's enchanting until they turn the music up. It is perfect except the stupid loud music. Just went back for the 2nd time last weekend. Our previous visit was may be a year ago so we noted the cocktail menu change. Still, everything was pretty delicious and on top of all that, they have a pretty bomb Happy Hour menu that goes everyday! We arrived shortly after opening so it was pretty mellow. It did eventually get busier and the sole bartender (had great hair) finally got some help. He was doing just fine up until more parties walked in. At that time, it was order at the bar yourself and we never had issues getting our drinks. We were all big fans of the Sloshie and ordered multiples of those. You really can't go wrong with any of their cocktails. The ambiance is a combo of chillness and old-timey speakeasy. Definitely a place we can hang out at and chat at for a few hours (which we did). They don't serve food but they partner with a restaurant next doorwho will deliver your order (something we didn't encounter on our last visit). We did end up ordering a couple things to munch on so we can have more drinks but it took a LONG time to get the food at 4:30pm. (We think they just forgot but order at your own risk.)
