This is my second time ordering from them. Decided to give them another chance. Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza was not good. The crust in the center 1/3 of the pizza was saturated and mushy. This is due to their rushing adding toppings as most of the sausage was at the center of the pizza. The toppings are not spread evenly across the top of the pizza. Margherita Pie was a joke. The dough on the pizza was very dry and the basil on top was heavily wilted. Tasted terrible. The difference between what the menu shows and what I got was a shocking! I posted picks on my yelp page. Get it together guys. This is basic stuff! You are close to having a great pizza but your team screws it up every time.

Privateer is a cool local spot in a small store complex along Coast Highway. They have three distinct seating areas. The patio with picnic tables, all outside so pups welcome, and essentially a part of the parking lot. Great for the wonderful SoCal weather. The main room, which is loud, lively and very casual. The "back room" which has a bit more of a wine bar feel with wine bottles for pick-up it is more open and airy. The star of the menu is their coal fired pizza. They have so many options from curated selections to build your own. Our first time we each got a pie, the chemistry and I think the cheese pie. This more recent time we opted for the Chemistry again, but did it half without the veggies. We got the roasted chicken wings and the Caesar salad to start. The wings had a really nice crispness and crunch even with the buffalo sauce and I had wondered if they perhaps were fried wings before I reread they were roasted. The service was great. Very attentive and friendly. I need to plan to come for one of their comedy nights.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of pizza, but my husband is, so we decided to try a new place. We came across this spot and ended up loving it way more than expected we would definitely go back. I will say, it's located in a pretty busy area and the parking lot isn't very big, so you may have to find street parking, which can be a little inconvenient. That aside, the location itself is really nice and spacious with a great setup, and they also offer outdoor seating, which is a plus. Our waitress was also very friendly and pleasent. The menu has a good variety of options, we tried the CLSICS pizza which has birria and it was amazing, we also tried the parm fries (not the best). Even as someone who doesn't usually gravitate toward pizza, I was pleasantly surprised. Overall, a great experience and definitely worth checking out.

Cozy casual spot that appeals to all age ranges. Saw lots of young families and retirement-aged folks, and everything in between. One side is a bustling restaurant with a bar and open kitchen. The other is a quieter, brighter wine bar and market. We came for happy hour and sampled a variety of items. Caesar salad was overly dressed, but otherwise good. Note to self: ask for dressing on the side next time. Fettuccine with meatballs tasted more like a kids meal not in a bad way, just very basic. Cajun wings were delicious. Pepperoni pizza was also pretty basic, but that's what you want from a pepperoni pizza. Overall, solid spot for a chill night.

If you are in the mood for delicious coal firing pizza with fresh ingredients and delicious toppings, Privateer Coal Fire pizza is the perfect answer to satisfy your craving. Their menu includes Charcuterie, salad, tacos, vegan toast, chicken wings, roasted cauliflower, mussels, mahi mahi Taquitos, meatballs, soup, various types pizza pie, burgers, sandwiches and more I ordered ; -Margherita Pies 5/5 The toppings were light and flavorful tomato sauce, Fior di Latte, fresh basil, extra virgin olive oil. The crust was perfect. The mixture between rich, creamy and delicate Fior di Latte cheese and the tangy flavorful tomato sauce made this pizza very savory. - Mahi Mahi Taquitos 5/5 It was really delicious, it had cilantro, pico de gallo, shredded cheddar and lettuce. I was surprised when I read that they were selling cookies from the famous Rustic Bakery. It is located in Sonoma County. They serve handmade high quality goods. It was amazing. I ordered Rustic Bakery Chocolate Nib Cookies and Rustic Bakery Pecan Shortbread. They were soft, flavorful and perfectly delicious. It was very convenient to order cookies with pizza. What a fun meal! Privateer is such a great. I was impressed with the quality and the flavorful taste of their pizza. It is the best pizza I have had in a long time.

Privateer Coal Fire Pizza is one of those places you stumble into once and then keep coming back to because it never misses. I found this spot on a trip with an old friend, and from day one it's been consistently solid. The pizza is outstanding--perfectly cooked with that coal-fire flavor--but honestly, the entire menu delivers. The salads are fresh, the wings are on point, and no matter what you order, it feels like care was put into it. This is the kind of place where it's hard to go wrong. Hospitality here is top tier. Friendly, laid-back, and welcoming, with that relaxed Oceanside vibe that makes you want to hang out a little longer than planned. Heads up on parking--it's tight, and this place gets packed, so you may have to walk a bit. But trust me, it's worth it. The food more than makes up for the extra steps. A reliable favorite that continues to deliver every single time.

My hubby and I have been eating to try this place every time we come to Oceanside and we finally did! The food was so delicious my only complaint would be I feel like my pizza needed more sauce. Strive was great and we really felt at home will definitely be back!

Yo! Captain 619 here -- cruised into Privateer Coal Fire Pizza down in Oceanside and had a rad little sesh with their pies. The whole coal-fired idea sounded gnarly in the best way, and while I couldn't actually taste "coal," the crust had a cool, unique char and smoky vibe that set it apart from the usual spots. We tried a small cheese and tossed some pineapple on one for a Hawaiian twist -- tasty and fun, but next time I'm going big with a plain cheese to really see what their oven does. Vibes: chilled SoCal, good for a post-surf feed. Service was friendly, pizza came out solid. Score: 3.5/5 -- would definitely ride back for another round.

Came here on a rainy day. The parking for this place is small, but the food is so delicious. They also had an all day happy hour when we came. The pizza was very yummy and service was also good.

Gluten-Free Cheese Pie with garlic roasted mushrooms
    KayAnna S.

My husband and I love that we can usually walk right in and be seated and served right away. They have been a local favorite for years and can get quite busy, so be prepared to wait. Their parking lot isn't too big, so you can always find street parking instead. Our last server was very welcoming, kind, and attentive throughout our dining experience. We quickly ordered the SurfRide pie and the GF Cheese Pie with garlic roasted mushrooms. My husband and I enjoyed both pizza pies, but the SurfRide definitely stood out. There was just so much flavor in each bite. Next time I will definitely order the SurfRide as gluten-free for myself instead. I still loved the custom cheese pie as the garlic roasted mushrooms were just delicious. I thought their gluten-free crust was honestly amazing as I could barely taste the difference between the regular crust and the gf one. The only visible difference is the gf crust is flatter (as expected though). Honestly anything on their menu is delicious, and you can't go wrong with any order. If the weather is nice, I highly suggest sitting outside as it is worth it!

Privateer was a lovely find on a Saturday night. We went just before closing and it was pretty quiet. The restaurant has a retro feel to it. The red leather booths really feel nostalgic. It's a family owned and operated establishment, which made it feel that much more special. Our server was wonderful and made sure we had everything we needed. They were starting to close up for the night, but we didn't feel rushed to leave. The drinks were pretty good and the pizza was even better. Definitely want to come back and check out more of their menu.

    Meatballs

I was staying down the street and enjoyed my dinner What I ate: - Meatballs: These were hearty, but not the absolute best meatballs I've ever had. I think a nice app to share with the table. Came with a few slices of crusty bread - Fungi pizza: The maitake mushrooms were great, butttttt I asked for no truffle oil and could smell it on the pizza when it came out. I wasn't going to complain, but it kind ruined the pizza for me. The dough itself was great, crust was on the thicker side - House red blend wine: This was surprisingly really good. I was so tempted to buy a bottle and/or try other blends Pros: - That wine list was impressive. I regret not opting for a wine flight to be able to taste more wines - Happy hour daily! - Though pizza is in the name there were plenty of things on the menu to appeal to everyone. They even offered robust salads for those wanting toi avoid the carbs - Pizza toppings seemed varied and interesting. I would say the pizzas were big enough for 2 adults to share. - Patio seating, and bar seating. They had a handful of 4top booths, and plenty of longer picnic tables for larger parties - Plenty of parking in the small lot at night. I'm sure street parking is easy to find as well if the parking lot is full - Staff was friendly Cons: - I really hated that truffle oil, but that's a personal preference and not the fault of this place Would I come again? Maybe, if anything for the wine

Fettuccine with chicken in a pink sauce- though i thought it was going to be more pink!

Cute little wine bar Finally got to try this place. Man the pizza was delicious. The crust was so perfect. Fluffy. With a little crunch. Nice and soft. Pepperoni was delicious. Meatball could have done without. Pasta was good. My daughter loved it. Service was great. Our waitress was super friendly, will definitely be back.

The duck was cooked amazingly - maybe a little on the salty side but not enough for me to mind. The lentils and fennel were a fun combo to pair with the duck. I was pleasantly surprised by the chewy texture of the complimentary bread offered at Paon, and one bite took me back to the streets of Paris where I strolled along the Seine River munching on my baguette. Our waiter only offered one small piece each, so I had to ask for a second piece. If my meal were just the bread alone, this would have been a 5-star review. Unfortunately, my dining experience declined after the bread... I ordered the Organic Beet Salad, and it was a disappointing stack of 3 round pieces of beets, each 1/4 inch thick and 2 inches in diameter, topped with arugula and small pieces of pistachios sparsely scattered on the plate. My friend and I looked at each other and asked, "what happened to the rest of the salad?!" Seriously, $21 for 3 pieces of beets?? My friend ordered the French Onion Puree for $19 and got a regular sized serving so we continued to ponder what happened to my beet salad. It was the joke of the evening. This dish was an unconventional spin off the traditional French onion soup, and sadly, while it was a creative idea, it failed to deliver in taste. My favorite thing about French onion soup is the gooey gruyere cheese. There was a small dollop of melted brie on top and that was it. It was a disappointment, but not nearly as sad as my beet salad. For my entree, I ordered the Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass $55. The fish was very tender, but the dish itself was extremely buttery and oily. I ordered this dish because I wanted something healthy, but it turned out to be a very heavy dish. The basil beurre blanc was just too overwhelmingly rich. My friend ordered the Seared Rare Hawaiian Yellowfin Tuna $52. The execution on this dish was better than mine. For dessert, we shared a Creme Brulee $18. We did not like this dessert because it was room temperature and tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. We like it chilled but with the hard sugary glaze. The top wasn't torched enough. Overall, while we enjoyed the ambiance, we did not really care for the food (except the amazing bread). Seeing how much we enjoyed the bread, it would've been nice had our waiter been more generous and offered us more bread. A good server would be more proactive and not wait to be asked.
