    The works pizza
    Paula C.

The garlic sticks were freshly baked and very tasty. The house made red wine vinaigrette was very flavorful. The large salad was enough for 4 adults. The salad was very fresh and crisp. The works pizza had a good portion of toppings, the Italian sausage was excellent, the dough was cooked perfectly and crispy. I think it could have used a little more sauce and very pricey.

Jay's Gourmet may be small, but the food is anything but. The complimentary warm bread they bring out is like a flatbread and it's so good. I ordered the Pasta Alla Pesto, it had romano, sun dried tomatoes, and pine nuts over angel hair pasta. It came with a salad with creamy Italian dressing. The pasta was ridiculously good -- a huge portion that easily could have been split. I ended up bringing half back to the hotel for my daughter, who also loved it! My husband ordered a bowl of Clam Chowder and then had the Linguine with White Wine Garlic Clam Sauce. I tried a bite -- it was delicious, full of flavor, and another generous serving. You really can't go wrong with Jay's. Everything was so good and perfectly garlicky. It's a small spot inside, but we sat outside at a little two-top in the parking lot, which honestly adds to the charm. Jay's has been around forever, and it's fun to sit outside and watch the buzz of the busy intersection nearby. So good!

Absolutely five stars for Jay's Gourmet in Carlsbad! My boyfriend and I couldn't decide between pizza or pasta--so we got both and shared, and honestly, best decision ever. We ordered The Works pizza on gluten-free crust and the pesto pasta with gluten-free noodles. The pizza was really good, albeit there wasn't much cheese. Being gluten free, it was flatbread, and it was pretty standard for a gf pizza. The pasta, however, completely stole the spotlight. It was rich, creamy, and had this amazing flavor that reminded us of lobster bisque--totally unexpected and seriously delicious. We showed up around 6pm and were pleasantly surprised that there was no wait at all. The restaurant has a cozy, relaxed vibe, and even though it's close to the beach, it wasn't too cold to sit comfortably. The staff was super friendly without being overbearing, but it did take a while for us to get the check. All around a great experience--we left full, happy, and already planning what to order next time. Highly recommend for a casual date night or just a great meal close to the beach.

At Jay's, it all about the food. Had the seafood salad and it's as good as I remember. I crave this dish and am willing to drive 40 minutes to get it! It's got chunks of salmon, calamari, etc, with the creamy Italian dressing, just perfect. All of their red sauces are delicious, with the fra diavolo just spicy enough. Jay's is a bit of a dive, but in that laid back, beachy way. It's in the heart of downtown Carlsbad, with plenty of windows for people watching. They've added Caymus, by the glass to the menu, if the above wasn't incentive enough!

It's become a place that my husband and I return to, and take our visitors. My mouth is savoring at the thought of the fish and chips. The fish is delicate and the breading is just thick enough and crispy. The fries remind me of when McDonalds fries are at its best, We've tried tacos, which was nice and fresh. The seasoning and sauce were also delicious. I was a huge fan of the tuna in the sampler. There was a spicy option I wasn't a huge fan of. Doesn't have the most private seating but it is part of the Cottages complex.

The food was fresh, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed with both outdoor seating and a small indoor dining area. The standout for me was definitely the potato taco. It was flavorful, well-made, and something I'd order again. The poke bowl was decent, but I found myself wishing there was a little more sauce. The ingredients tasted fresh, but the bowl felt a bit underwhelming for the price, especially when it came to portion size. Nothing was bad by any means, and I can see why people enjoy it. I just left feeling like it needed a little more of either the flavor or the quantity to really wow me. Fresh food, nice staff, and a solid casual lunch spot if you're in the area.

After our experience, we were so happy we found Nick's as we visit the area frequently and will be back many more times. The restaurant seemed to be the busiest and chicest in the area with a great crowd and environment. Our drinks were top notch as was all of our food. The tuna tartare was one of the best we've had - and I'm obsessed with tuna tartare. Their chopped salad was also super delicious as was my fish sandwich and my husband's entree as well. The service was polished and the whole are very walkable and safe. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Nick's and can't wait for our next visit.

Jacob was our server, and he was fantastic. He was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever making us feel rushed. Later, Kaitlyn brought out our butter cake, and what started as a quick interaction turned into one of those unexpected conversations that give you a different perspective and refresh that we all need every once in a while. The food was just as impressive. We started with the Spinach & Artichoke Dip, which was the perfect appetizer. For dinner, we ordered the Center Cut Filet, Cha Cha's Spicy Rigatoni, and the Buttermilk Fried Chicken. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and something we'd happily order again. If you're thinking about dessert, do yourself a favor and order the butter cake. It absolutely lives up to the hype. What stood out most, though, was the people. Working in a restaurant can be overstimulating and exhausting. Everyone we interacted with was kind and welcoming. It's easy to enjoy a great meal, but it's the people who make you want to come back. From the service to the food to the atmosphere, the entire team is doing an incredible job. Thank you to Jacob, Kaitlyn, the manager, kitchen staff, and everyone else who made our evening so enjoyable. We'll definitely be back.

She greeted us with a big smile and checked us in our reservation. We were seated in the outside patio overlooking the beach. It was a beautiful view. The server came to greet us right away. He ask what we wanted to drink and afterwards told us the special menu for the night. First we started with the appetizers. We had the Fritto di Calamari e gamberretti and the Carpaccio di manzo. The calamari and rock shrimp were soft and crunchy. The batter was flavorful but subtle and the marinara sauce tied it altogether. We loved the filet mignon carpaccio. It was tender and rich. The cheese, capers and arugula provided a great balance to this dish. For our entree, we had the spaghetti portofino, Pappardelle con funghi e Capesente and Cappellaci di Manzo. When our food came we could not believe how huge their portions are. One entree is equal to 2 entrees and it makes sense because the price is up there. The Portofino, had huge amount variety of seafood and the scallop and jumbo prawn stood out which was placed on top of the dish. Wish they did have more spaghetti, but we were happy with it. All the seafood was cooked perfectly. Soft and tender and the pesto sauce was more like a little bit of marinara and pesto. The Parpadelle was cooked with just the right texture and the different types mushroom had full of Umami flavors. You can tell they make their own pasta. The 2 huge scallops in the sides were cooked just right, tender and just delicious! This was to die for. The Carpellaci was amazing!!! The hat-pasta was full of braised prime short rib and the porcini cream sauce with aged asiago and black truffles really excelled this dish. The sauce was creamy and just bursting with great flavors. All of these dishes were outstanding!!! Ofcourse none of us finished our entree. We were stuffed half way. We were not disappointed!!! We had plenty of leftovers. Also the bus boy and the servers really took care of us. Our water was always filled up. At the end they served my hubby with a birthday cannoli with a candle. We all got a taste of his birthday dessert and wow this cannoli is fantastic. It's a great way to end the evening! If you're heading to Carlsbad, this place is a wonderful restaurant to spend a special occasion or a celebration to the end of your vacation.
