Great pizza, great wings, great menu to enjoy so much more, and a great place to enjoy it all. A neighborhood gem that will not disappoint.

I've heard about That Pizza Place for years but never knew where it was even located so we never made an attempt to visit. Once I realized it was super close, I got the family together and we made a visit on a Saturday. Parking was super easy and once we walked in, suddenly realized how large the place was. So much room! And with a ton of TV's. Only issue here is the TV's appear small because the room and walls are so large. Minor problem but time to get that 100" for the Padres games. We called our order in ahead of time, knowing it would take 15-20 min to drive down. Large deep-dish pepperoni and 12 buffalo wings, half mild and half spicy. Fam said wings were spicy but I didn't think so at all. Guess it depends on your tolerance. The deep dish pizza was phenomenal. I still don't know of any place in Oceanside or Carlsbad that serves deep dish Chicago style pizza (other than Rosati's in Encinitas). Service was great. Calling ahead was a huge win because everything was ready the moment we walked in. Just had to buy some beers and pay the tab (~ $80-ish). I didn't get a receipt which I now wished I had. Beers were ice cold. Nice to see they have a whole bar in the back, though it's a bit strange. Most places would put the bar up-front by the entrance so you can see how packed or fun a place is without stepping in. We will most definitely be back to try other stuff now that we know how close they are. Can't wait to try happy hour. read more

Grew up going to the original That Pizza Place, had pictures of me as a kid in sports teams and band, all over the walls. Was a weekly stop for my friends and family. Now to the new TPP. First, the pizza does not taste like it did back in the classic days pre-covid. Prices are much higher and it's missing that warm feeling. The fun family ambiance replaced by a "generic modern food establishment" vibe, now looks like every other place in Carlsbad/oceanside area. I understand it's been a few years since the new owners took over, but the place has none of the feel from before. It's like someone replaced a classic car with a modern Toyota Carola. Sure, everything feels new, but it also feels and tastes like everything else. That's said, the workers were nice, and the food is ok, portions were a bit small for the price. Changing my review since the last time I tried this restaurant. I called to place an order, and the number they have on file is a non working number. Drove to restaurant to order the pizza. Walked in to kids running all around, not clean and more of an arcade, than a restaurant Stood at the counter for 10 minutes until someone in the back noticed me and took my order. Large pepperoni pizza, and 12 piece wing. $50!!!!!! 20-25 minute wait. I was excited to try their food again because the first time I had this spot was at a party and they supplied the food. I enjoyed the pepperoni pizza. I have no idea what happened this time around was! I could be wrong, but the crust is the frozen kind. 0 flavor to the crust, sauce or cheese. My husband and I had to add oregano, basil, and garlic. I was laughing at the other reviews that said just get a frozen pizza but now trying the pizza I agree! Digorno is way better! The wings are just unseasoned fried wings with buffalo sauce. This spot is bland bland bland. They should just make it into an arcade spot, because they'd probably make more money if they stopped trying to lean into the pizza business. That Pizza Place was just what we needed. Not too fancy not too divey. It's a walk up and order,which I like. I'm SUPER picky and that way it's right. It was cool that the chef brought out our order, as they did with everyone. We sat at the first table, but when I walked further back, they had a full bar with beer and wine. They also had a few pinball machines and kid friendly games. One last nugget, the restroom was super clean! So refreshing. Thank you! As a lifetime local, That Pizza Place has always been a great go-to local pizza place! They've changed over the years, but honestly they have only gotten better. I loved their arcade growing up and I'm glad they kept it for future young generations to enjoy while also providing a much needed beer and wine bar. Any pizza or salad or side/app you order will be fantastic! My personal favorite pizza is the pesto pizza, but the chicken ranch pizza we had was also quite perfect. You can always build your own too. This place is great for any size group, but especially great for large families or groups. There is plenty of easy parking out front too. They can get pretty busy most nights so going early is definitely suggested. They do have a lot of tables, but again they can quickly fill up! read more

Brought my son here for dinner a couple of times and had a great time!! The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. The staff is very friendly and personable. There are a lot of games to keep the kiddos entertained. My favorite pizza so far has been the chicken pesto pizza. The flavors are simple, but really well done - the pesto tasted fresh, the chicken tender, and the gluten-free crust was very crispy. It's a great option if you're looking for a place that works well for all ages and still serves something a little special. We'll definitely be back for that chicken pesto pizza again!! read more

Haven't been here in years, like YEARS. You order when you walk in and pick a table to sit at. The service was pretty quick even though they were packed (looked like a birthday party). We ordered pizza and wings just something small. All tasted great and the kids loved it. Kids loved the small little games definitely geared more to the smaller kids. Heck yeah TPP! We decided to have our daughter's 5th birthday party at That Pizza Place because it encompasses all things important to her - family & friends, pizza and GAMES! I called less than 2 weeks ahead requesting to reserve a space big enough for our expected party size, and specifically asked to be seated next to the games for parental observation purposes. It was a painless process to nail down the details with whomever I spoke with on the phone - no required spend minimums or commitments, just a great no-frills experience. On the day of our party I arrived a little early to set up and do a couple decorations and was greeted by Dane who let us know he was going to be our go-to guy for the duration of the party. He ensured we had enough tables, took some initial drink orders and encouraged us to let him know should we need anything. As our guests arrived it got quickly hectic (little kid parties are mayhem... ya feel me?!) as there were was also several kids sports teams celebrating in the same space at the same time, but the TPP team cleared a space and laid out a bunch of risers for all our pizzas and checked in constantly to make sure we had all we needed. It was an energetic and eventful few hours at TPP for our daughter's birthday and she had a total blast! I have to give major props to Dane for taking such great care of us and our entire party the whole time, insisting we didn't feel obligated to go above and beyond in cleaning up etc etc etc. He gave us excellent attention despite it being a busy night for the restaurant and I truly couldn't have pulled it all off without him and he rest of the TPP team. Managing a party of over a dozen kids ages 0-5 is no easy feat, but he truly helped us succeed. Give that man a raise! We will definitely be back again soon. read more

We love to go here multiple times a month, the pizza is always delicious, the sandwiches are too! My new fave is the 2 meatballs with Garlic bread. :) every time we come in we're greeted with a smile and treated like a friend! Was dying to try this place as I'm always looking for great pizza. All the reviews and people mentioning it on face book. We finally decided to try it on "pi" day! 3.14. We got the wings to start- those were tasty- mild buffalo (because in a wimp). And also got some cheese sticks- this is pretty much cheese pizza minus the sauce and cut into sticks- nothing too "wow" about them. They lacked flavor honestly. We got a pepperoni pizza, traditional delicious pizza what can go wrong? looks similar to round table pizza.. (which i do love honestly for a chain pizza place) but sad to say, it's just not as good. It was lacking flavor again! I the dough was missing something. I just don't know. Very saddened. The worst part of the evening wasn't the restaurants fault. But more the horrible parents that let their kids climb all over the seats next to us. (Booth side) banging on the tables, screaming and moving our chairs... granted we have a baby and we know she can be loud at times- but we take her outside, to not bother the other patrons... these kids were out of control. Ordered a Medium Sausage/Artichoke pizza which yields 8 slices. It came with 7 artichoke sections and 12 sausage chunks. Ordered a Large Meat Lovers pizza, which yields 10 slices. It was 'loaded' with 12 sausage chunks, 9 think beef slices and 8 thin salami slices. Do the math. Not every slice has every topping!!! The cost? $56 and change.When I got home and discovered what I bought, the manager told me they weigh each ingredient and "that's the way we do it." This was for a gathering of 10 - That Pizza Place just lost 10 potential customers. Alternative? Aldi's! I am so dissapointed. I didn't realize that the ownership changed during COVID and I know it was great before so I went out of my way today to get one of there pizzas. The crust was horrible and tasteless. The only difference between this and a frozen pizza is it wasn't frozen first and cost twice as much. I gave 'em three stars (rounding up from one and a half) out of respect for the nearly three decades we've eaten there, swearing I'd never subject myself or my family to the painfully disappointing reboot again. flash forward twelve months: was informed I was joining the wife's family (two brothers, two sisters, and LOTS of nieces and nephews) for lunch at TPP. the existential dread of eating there again filled me with more trepidation than Hurricane Hillary (which was as overblown as the $80 million Republicans spent investigating Clinton's emails). but, as my wife points out with terrifying regularity, I could not have been more wrong. except for the tragic absence of the salad bar (another Covid victim), That Pizza Place is back and better than ever. the Meat Lover's (salumi, pepperoni, meatballs and sausage) was perfect and for conveyer belt pizza that's high praise from a certified pizza snob. crispy, thin crust with toppings all the way to the edges and lots of cheese. the only remotely disappointing part of the experience was we ate every bite and there were no leftovers for the CHS v. Really nice staff. Bit of an issue with the counter being unattended though, as it looks like there are very few people actually working at a time. The lady noticed me and my friends really quick though. She took my order and was really swift. They take cash which is nice. Sat down and waited a bit, very nice ambiance, and in under 10 minutes they brought out our food, which was two small pizzas. The cheese pull on my slice was INSANE. Loved the toppings, they tasted fresh. After that my friends and I sat and chatted for a little, then left. Few things to consider is that they have no captions on the TVs, which is sorta frustrating because all channels are muted except for one. Overall a nice experience though. read more

This isn't the first time I've been to TPP; I've been here before and the pizza has always been delicious. But this isn't about the food, oh no. This is about the WAIT for the food. You see, when we got there, a measly amount of people were there, especially in line to order. I was excited, because I am not a fan of long waits. We waited in line like normal, ordered like normal, and sat down like normal. Then came the pickle. You see, we used 40 minutes of our precious time waiting, and still no sign of any half cheese half veggie pizza. The place was more crowded now, but we ordered way before it got like this. So, our group was obviously concerned, leading to one of us asking to check on our order. What happened next was unusual. The good lady at the register went to check on our order, and sure enough, she strolled out with our pizza as if she somehow spawned it in. She gave us the pizza, and apologized sincerely (not) about the wait. In conclusion, for all we know, our pizza could've been waiting, collecting dust for tens of minutes, and we wouldn't have even known. The pizza, luckily, was warm, but certainly not hot. I was here with a large group (my 1st time visit) ..... The Walk up counter was the first stop to order the Lunch special: personal pan 6" pizza with choice (from MANY) of two toppings,( mine had artichokes & onions, ) a large Caesar salad, and a fountain drink! All for $12.50 + tax. next stop was the soda fountain before sitting at the picnic style table that had padded chairs/ padded benches to choose from. The salad was crisp and fresh and had fresh shaved parmesan. The pizza was quite tasty and just the right lunch portion. there were assorted shakers of Parmesan, garlic powder, and I oregano to top off the pizza and salads. I usually just drink water, but couldn't resist the root beer that was included. I also tried a small side of the beer battered french fries ($7) as well which were served hot and were so yummy! Great family atmosphere where kids can run around and there are tvs for people who want to watch sports. Service is good- our order was pretty fast considering there were lots of people being served. Food- pizza toppings are good. You can create your own unique pizza if you want something that's not in the list. My only complaint is that the crust is way too thick and dense. The outside was crispy but the inside was still moist and doughy. It would be a much better texture if it was rolled out to half the thickness. The dessert brownie was really good. It comes in its own cast iron skillet nice and warm and gooey. Just be prepared to order it ahead of time as it is prepared fresh and takes about 20 minutes.
