I started with an Aperol Spritz, which was perfectly made, followed by the rucola salad with delicate Champagne lemon vinaigrette. It was fresh, light, and absolutely delicious. My entrée, the rigatoni with Italian sausage, mushrooms, and pink sauce, was outstanding. The sauce was rich and flavorful without being heavy, and every bite was fantastic. The service was equally impressive. The bartender was so kind and welcoming, and our waitstaff was attentive, friendly, and professional throughout the evening. A special thank you to Chef Angelo, who came out to visit with guests. It was such a thoughtful touch and showed how much he cares about both his food and his customers. I really enjoyed their house lager beer, and appreciated it even more because the bartender was quick to fix my beer which had a thick head from the tap. The food though... nice job! Wanted to try a new Italian place for a date night and landed on Blade 1936. The host and servers were all very nice which was good. The chef came out to speak to every table as well. We ordered Brussels sprouts for our appetizer. It was pretty standard. We love Brussels sprouts so it was good but it wasn't particularly crispy and was very basic with just salt and pepper I believe. We enjoyed it but felt it wasn't worth our money because we could make something similar at home. For our mains we got the carbonara pizza and the papardelle bolognese. The carbonara pizza was not exactly what we were expecting. We had envisioned a creamy carbonara sauce with Parmesan on the pizza but instead there was just fully cooked egg on top. We also felt that the topping to cheese ratio was off. We preferred less cheese and more toppings. The crust was thick and if you like thick crust you may like the pizza they have here. The papardelle has good flavor but the pasta was a little bit overcooked. Overall, we felt that this restaurant was average hence my rating. We felt that the value of the meal was not as good as some other places we've been to in the past. We likely won't return and I don't think I would recommend this place over others. read more

We ordered the Pappardelle with mushrooms and added a side of salmon. The plate is big and this was shared between 3 adults. We also ordered a side of Bruschetta and they gave us free bread and butter. Amongst the 3 of us, we all felt satisfied. Overall, the food was delicious and, the ingredients tasted fresh as well. Walked in on a Friday evening and waited only about 5 mins for a table. We sat outside on the patio. The service was great. Server checked in on us regularly and our food came out quickly. The pasta was so good. The perfect amount of creaminess that I was looking for. They have bar seating, outside and inside seating for small and big groups. They also have tvs inside. Celebrated my sister's birthday and had a great time! We sat on the patio which had a heater. Our server was helpful and fun! We ordered from the happy hour menu which was a great value. The bruschetta was well balanced and the caprese salad had green tomatoes which were so good. Evan was an absolutely outstanding server. We were a party of 6 that got sat in the back room with another large party. The noise level in there was, to say it lightly, overwhelming. But even when the other party calmed down it was more of the acoustics of the room. Everything just echoed. 4 of our 6 wear hearing aids so you can imagine how well that went haha. Evan was kind enough to move us outside on their lovely patio and it was PERFECT. It was such a beautiful June day that we should have asked for outside in the first place. I will say the food was about 60/40. I'd gotten the penne Arrabiata with chicken and they just put slices of chicken on top of the pasta. Not even mixed in or with sauce which I found odd. My husband got the ribeye which unfortunately was a very thin slice and consisted of mostly fat. The others dishes were fantastic though. One got the evening special which was rigatoni stuffed with braised short ribs. Another got the cioppino which was fresh and flavorful. And the two others got the ravioli in cream mushroom sauce and the pasta with cream mushroom sauce. The truffle is just right and the balance or arugula is perfect. If you want a white pizza and love truffle, you won't be disappointed. Overall they have a good mix of red and white pizzas - you really can't go wrong with any of them! Options for kids. It's not on the menu, but ask and they'll tell you what the options are. We asked for fettuccine Alfredo and they were more than accommodating for my kids. The service here was Excellent! We were sat down promptly and our waitress gave great recommendations and prompt service. I got the Lisa Bella drink which was a delicious Italian passion fruit drink. The food here is good. I got the truffle pasta mushroom dish. This was delicious. However the service and the vibes were very very off here. Some of the servers had their energy very off. The man who was our server was very nice, he made up for it. However, when we got the bill and the head of our table tipped a certain amount and we were approached by the chef asking why the tip wasn't higher. This was the second time this has happened at this restaurant. I believe the tip is based on service and the way I feel when attending the dinner. We've been walking by for years and finally decided to make a reservation for dinner. I definitely suggest making a reservation as they get quite busy any night they are open. As soon as we arrived, we were seated and greeted by our server. We quickly put in our orders and we were given our drinks right away. We loved their house cab and I throughly enjoyed the Il Gallo signature cocktail. The cocktail just had a hint of sweetness but it was so refreshing. We received our apps but without the oil and balsamic vinegar that it came with, so we did have to request it from our server. We had to request refills on the oil and balsamic vinegar as well, which we were then given the bottle of each. I absolutely loved their bruschetta and focaccia bread. The bread was fresh and fluffy for both items and the tomatoes in the bruschetta were ripened to perfection and paired so well with the burrata. We were grateful for the apps because our food took just about a hour to get to us from ordering it. Once we did receive our food, it didn't last long as we loved our entrees! The portions were quite large so we did take some home. I loved the scaloppine di pollo di fungi. The mushrooms and garlic just gave so much flavor to the chicken and veggies. So worth it! I'm not sure why my meal didn't come with the garlic mashed potatoes but I didn't want to bother to ask as I knew we would just be there even longer waiting. I loved the vegetables so it all worked out. My husband's pappardelle ai funghi e tartufo with sausage was just a dream. The mixture of cream sauce, mushrooms, and sausage was just divine. I personally couldn't choose which meal was better because in my eyes they were both too good. I honestly don't think you could go wrong with anything on their menu as it all sounds, looks, and smells delicious. We did flag down our server again to put in our dessert order as we knew it would take a while. The lemon blueberry ricotta cheesecake was absolutely delightful. Quite light for a cheesecake and perfectly sweet. The strawberries and strawberry syrup paired well with the cheesecake itself. We waited about another 20 minutes after finishing dessert before we could even ask our server for the check. I'm not sure if they were short staffed on such a busy night, but it did take us a while to get service between everything and we had to flag down our server a lot. Our dinner for two took about two hours, which was a lot longer than we were expecting. Again, we had a great time and our sever was so kind, but definitely seemed he was stretched too thin. I would like to preface this with Blade used to be our go to date night spot on Wednesdays. Unfortunately after tonight's terrible experience we will not be back. First, there was a wait because they had one server on at 4pm despite it being happy hour and date night. There was plenty of open tables but nobody to wait on them, and honestly after our service I can see why they needed to pace the seating. Our server had NO IDEA what she was doing or serving. First she dropped off an incorrect check, then dropped off another incorrect check that was double the price that it should be. I had to go to the bar to point this out. According to our credit card statement we were still charged the $160 - despite being given a credit card statement of $94 to sign. No apology was issued despite the incredibly expensive mistake. No option to speak to a manager was given either. The food tasted good as usual but the service ruined our once favorite Italian spot in Oceanside. read more

The pasta had amazing flavor and was such a unique dish. I typically go for a bolognese but decided to give this a try and it did not disappoint! A must order! Really loved the Insalata Di Fragole. The balance between the crunch from the almonds gave it nice texture and the sweetness from the strawberries + beets were a nice addition. Also, can't go wrong with burrata. I could eat that on anything really! We loved the tiramisu, was nice and light and not overly sweet. Would def order that again! Wood fired brick over turns out some great pizzas too. The serving platter for the pizza was nice looking, but I think that it allowed the crust to steam a little which reduced the crunch factor on the crust. Great tasting though. A bit pricey for the menu items, but rent in that area has to be horrendous, so I get it, the food quality was also high to parallel the cost. Not your run of the mill Italian eatery. The food this time around was okay. We ordered a pizza for happy hour and within 2 minutes we got it and it was "warm ". We shared some octopus and a main dish of tortellini which were good. The biggest thing that made me upset was that I booked the reservation with notes that it was my 33 year anniversary and my cousin 35 years anniversary and they didn't acknowledge it. Service was great, friendly staff and no mistakes. Price was a little more than I'm used to, but SO worth it! So Mothers Day came along the following week , guess where we went!! What is the most important thing to consider when reviewing a restaurant? The Food! This is an authentic Italian eatery (take it from someone who lived in Italy for 3 years, was married to an Italian, and sampled food from all regions of Italy). I didn't try the pasta this time (I'll be back) but we had a Margherita Pizza that was stupendous. The red sauce was so fresh and bright, not the heavy oil-laden sauce you often get on a pizza. This was like pizza in a mom-and-pop place in Rome. Perfect crispy crust, nice portion of mozzarella, basilico and the lovely light red sauce. Because the sauce is so light it drips a bit, but the taste is perfect. We started with the Arancini (fried rice balls, very typical appetizer in Italy, especially in the South). They were a little different than I had in Rome, but the taste was delicious. They are quite large and filled with delicious flavored rice, with cheese in the middle. A yummy start. Although I didn't try the pasta, I saw plates of it going by our table and it all looked and smelled very authentic. Can't wait to get back and try the Bolognese. The place itself is sort of set up like a small sports bar, not your typical low-light place with romantic corners to hide in. But it is such a friendly place. Everyone seems happy, including the wait staff, which means it is a good environment to work in. Angelo Traversa, the Executive Chef and Owner, came by our table and spoke with us (my friend Angela and I both speak Italian so we were happy to converse with Angelo), told us something about his history and how he came to start this restaurant. It was like old home week, everyone felt like family. It is nice to see Oceanside up-scaling, and Blade 1936 is certainly a welcome and tasty addition. Try it, you'll like it!
