Excellent return visit. They are SO friendly here. I'd say 5 stars for the patio, 5 stars for the service, and then a little lower for what I ordered this time, but no prob! They have a seasonal squash dish to replace the JUSTLY FAMOUS butternut squash one. It was good, but didn't slap the same way. I'd still order it again! I got the fish again, which is delicious and huge. They didn't have the Mai Tai cocktail anymore, so I tried the one called The Owner Likes This One. I do like amaro based cocktails but this one tasted a little extra medicinal. I'd get something different next time. But I still liked the squash and fish, and the cocktail was worth trying even if not my favorite. And the vibes are immaculate here! read more

We came here for a girls night. It looked small from the outside but has another part to the right of it. To start I ordered their NY sour and it wasn't bad, it looked good and had the flavors. We skipped appetizers and just decided to do 3 entrees and share. We got their steak frites, mushroom pappardelle and the branzino. They had everything but said they had to prep the branzino which took like 20 minutes, which wasn't bad. For the steak frites, we ordered it medium rare and it just came out pretty medium, more on done side. It had good flavors but overly salted. Fries were crunchy but salty as well. As for the mushroom pappardelle, it was good except the pasta was severely doughy and undercooked. It wasn't even al dente, it was dough. The mushroom and sauce were pretty salty as well. The dish we liked most was the sea bass. It had a good amount of salt, which you always need in fish. Flavors were there. My friend found a couple bones, so just an FYI. Food could be a little less salty, don't overcook the steak and cook the pasta more. I think the chef was just too generous on the salt that night. Overall, Little Fawn had potential, good flavors but just many "little flaws" here and there. read more

Oh YELP reviewers I feel you've failed me. Came to Oceanside to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary. Looked up "romantic restaurants" and this was HIGH on the list. Excited to try it and a short walk from where we were staying. Arrived and the music (hip hop) was BOOMING. Between the music and people trying to talk over the music it was crazy loud. No real atmosphere. We ordered a glass of sparkling (our anniversary) and the ceasar salad to split. The salad was, perhaps, one of the best I've ever had and hubby agrees. We ate every bit and it was a generous bit. Hubby had the lamb chops and loved them. Would order again. I had the burger. It came out way after hubbys lamb (they do disclose on menu that food will come as it's ready) but it felt awkward. The burger was good - gooey and messy and the house made pickles were vinegary and spicy. Hubby finished before me (obvy) and asked for the check so they awkwardly took my plate (I was 3 bites in) and put into a go box and brought the check and that's a wrap! The waiter who brought the check asked how everything was and I said "not great and it's our anniversary@ (I had also noted that on open table) so he offered a cheesecake to go. Little fawn is a very ambient restaurant. The dim lightning and cozy seating allows for intimate conversations with the people you come with. Service was quick and attentive, saw many friendly faces from the staff and it was nice to know they were constantly paying attention. The drinks were smooth, slightly strong on the deez coconuts drink. But can't complain. Loved the Donny boy! Very smooth and Smokey The food is good portions. The service here is wonderful, I came in last night for a glass of wine and even though they were closed they still served me a glass and a second to take to my room after. This morning I came down for breakfast, the server was a happy beam of sunshine. She brought me coffee, and I relaxed for a bit. I then ordered some he steak and eggs. Little Fawn is a relatively new restaurant in the Fin Hotel. It's relatively small and cozy in the restaurant but there are a few tables in the hotel lobby that were less cozy. I'd recommend requesting a table in the restaurant or at the cool bar. Started with a couple glasses of wine. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating and allowed us to taste the wines before ordering. Nice touch! The wine was served at the proper temperature and was fresh. We shared the Arugula Fennel salad and it was delicious. For mains we ordered the Green Chile Wagyu Burger and the Branzino. The branzino was excellently prepared in a Mediterranean style and perhaps the best I've ever had. The burger had promise but was served on a very soft roll and became disassembled as I tried to slice through it. Was hard to taste the ingredients in a single bite like a burger should be. I would have recommended that it be served on a stiffer roll like a brioche. With the exception of the burger, this is a five-star experience. Would highly recommend it. read more

My wife had a spinoff of an old fashioned which she thoroughly enjoyed. Service was quick, friendly, and enjoyable. We decided to make our first visit to Little Fawn to try a few specific dishes that we'd heard about. The roasted butternut squash and the mussels lived up to the hype - both were amazing. The steak frites was good, but not great. We asked for medium rare, which is important for a hanger steak so it isn't too tough - but received medium well. To be fair, we did not point this out to our server. As a prime cut steak, however, it was still good, especially with the accompanying sauce. But probably not worth what we paid. Finally, we ended with the chocolate mousse. It was tasty but a bit dense, and served with a full sized spoon that seemed way too big for the accompanying cup. A smaller spoon would be better for that dish. All of that said, the service was fantastic and the decor maintains the charm that spot has always been known for. So, we'll be back again and are looking forward to it. read more

My daughter recommended this place for Mother's Day on Sunday. Loved the restaurant Ambiance the food was amazing we shared the Lamb meat balls had incredibly spices which really surprised us flavors never experienced before also gave the Steak n Eggs my husband was pleasantly impressed at how simple and delicious it was !!! and can I say WOW a must try the Caesar Salad we all devoured completely we fought over who was going to have the last bite !!!! My husband and I shared the whipped feta (I could have licked the plate!), the Caesar salad (the flavors were incredible), and the steak frites. I honestly don't think I'll ever order another entrée. What do they do to that steak?! It was perfectly cooked, unbelievably flavorful, and absolutely unforgettable. Little Fawn is making its mark right out of the gate. Every detail--from the food to the atmosphere--has been exceptional. And the service? Just as memorable. Tom, our server, was so warm and personable, and he even remembered us from our first visit. I would say this is a solid place to have dinner and some drinks. They were a little discombobulated... we had reservations and they weren't ready for us! We waited about 15 minutes. No biggie. Once we placed our order, they also let us know that all of our food wouldn't come out at the same time because "that's just how they do it" it's not a tapas bar so not sure why "that's just how they do it" but fair enough thanks for the warning! Overall, our meals were yummy, and I appreciated the fact that they marked gluten-free items on the menu! The ambience is nice. Our waiter didn't ever really check on us, but thankfully, the bus boy who is working his butt off made sure we had everything we needed! Forgot to take photos of all food. For appetizers, we ordered the squash blossoms and the Caesar salad. The Caesar salad is definitely enough for two. The squash blossoms were tiny really only enough for one, but they were! My wife is GF and they brought some of the extra crunchy chips that went with the ceviche so she could dip them in the feta - great service on that. I had the burger - honestly one of the best restaurant burgers in SD area - a must try. I had a bite of the branzino my wife ordered which was also delicious. The other couple ordered the steak frites and were very happy with the quality and flavor. Not to bemissed is the cocktail program - wow! I had a tequila drink that had a cinnamon thing going on.. it was really well balanced and delicious.. definitely something different. I also tried the Scotch and ginger cocktail - also excellent. It was a crazy busy Saturday night when my wife and I visited. The owner, short staffed, had to turn away a few groups (which you could see was painful for him). Our server split time between bartending and service. BUT! What followed was an incredible experience, with kindness, great cocktails, and unbelievable food. The Mushroom Toast was magical, the chicken skewers had perfect heat that was softened by the pickled fennel, and finally the steak frites were all the right combinations of crispy, savory and acid. Little Fawn feels like a a secret Oceanside restaurant for locals. The customers are as varied as the people walking the Strand on a Sunday morning. But the constant is a kind and thoughtful owner who you can tell takes care of his people and prioritizes the menu and high level execution that somehow feels effortless. I love this setting the service, the quality of food, and I remember loving the potatoes. For some reason I think the way they were cut and prepared and their flavor was not typical and very enjoyable. I also remember the plate that it was served on, and the silverware went nicely with the overall look of the plate when it was served.. of course the eggs were hot and cooked very nicely the way they should be.
