    BBQ, Buffalo, Dry Rub

Finally got to try Hill Street Brewing and I have to say I was very impressed by their food. My mom and I happened to stop by during their Wing Wednesday special of 75 cent wings. We tried the buffalo, bbq, ND dry rub and really enjoyed all 3. I noticed the couple next to us ordered nachos which looked phenomenal as well. Service was good. They were a bit short staff and it did take a while to place our orders in initially but then the service improved as dinner went on. Will I return? Absolutely! They have great food. Great ambience. Food specials. And parking!

Said I wouldn't come here again due to inconsistent experiences but my mother in law wanted to and this really solidified that. I checked out the yelp page first and was kinda surprised the overall 4.5 rating has turned to 3.5 but not anymore Just to start while fresh in my mind: service was terrible. They were "short staffed" ok so that can explain the hour wait for our food. I'm not upset about that. What was upsetting is the attitude we received. Syrup was asked for. Didn't come. When we told our waitress she said "well you didn't ask me for it" with an unnecessary rude tone. Then the manager came over and asked if everything was good, was told nachos came with no chiles and she also had an attitude about it. No one was really apologetic about the time or experience as you would think someone proud of their restaurant would not try to blame the customer for the shortcomings of the meal. Now about the meal: again, issues with consistency. The wings that I love and were great twice were completely different. They were super saucy and less crispy. Basically became the same wings you can get most places. Also didn't seem to be the juicy big meat ones as before. I got the pulled pork sandwich which was really dry. The nachos were very sad. Most of the chips had literally nothing on them. I get nachos won't always be completely loaded on each chip anywhere you go but each chip should at least have a DROP of cheese. Never seen nachos this lame even at a movie theater. They were also out of fish, prime rib, chilaquiles (not sure exactly what part of the dish as pulled pork or another meat could be subbed for carnitas and they obviously weren't out of chips) at 1pm on a Sunday. It was busy but based off the declining reviews (many 4/5 stars changed to 2/3) and the history of this location I really don't see it lasting much longer

The cornbread bites are delicious and the wagyu brisket is very well made. They charge a 3% credit card fee. Service is very slow even with half or fewer tables filled.

We've seen a few restaurants take a chance at this location on the corner of the 101 Hwy and Vista Way in Oceanside, but we hope Hill Street Brewing is here to stay. They have a very cool vibe, nice decor, comfortable and plenty of seating inside and outside. There's parking on-site, but it can be filled up quickly on busy days. Overall, the space is inviting and great for friendly gatherings. We've come a couple times for their Wednesday Wings special and it has been a great deal. Eight wings for under a buck each; hard to beat that. The wings were flavorful and cooked to perfection. The service has also been great. Our servers have cheerful, attentive, and made us feel at home. Hill Stree has definitely brought a positive change to this spot and we'll keep coming back.

February 2026 Review Update : Hill Street Brewing continues to expand its presence into the Oceanside community and they are very popular and have gained many patrons in the process. Most popular is their Happy Hour, which is EVERY DAY (including the weekends). It runs from 3:00pm to 5:30pm and grants that extra 30 minutes for those who leave work at 5pm. During Happy Hour, you can get $5 wells, beers & wines; but even better, you can get their appetizers for $10... and some of them are huge! The portions are generous with their Wagyu brisket nachos & fries. It also feels like every chip & nacho is individually seasoned (see my pictures). I love that they have monthly specials too. January they had 2-for-1 drink specials. February they have that Kids Eat Free. With special deals, generous portions, good service, being dog-friendly and kid-friendly, this locally-owned bbq destination really shines in Oceanside.

Went to Hill Street for the first time last week and really love what they have done with the place. It's got a fun hip vibe and I would consider hanging out with friends there. They also have great happy hour and January 2 for 1 drink specials. The food was really good and had unique flavors. There were also SO MANY gluten free options which I was thrilled to see. Most of their menu is marked gf which makes ordering so much easier for me. My only complaint would be the time it took to get our food. We put in an appetizer and waited at least 25 min before our server asked the kitchen to find out they were out of queso and it wasn't coming. I would think once the order was placed, the kitchen would notify her they were out immediately. It also took a very long time for our entrees to come out. If you can work on your kitchen/server communication and kitchen speed I will be a very loyal customer!

Hadn't been here since the newest turnover to "HillStreet Brewing". It was formerly Heritage and several other restaurants preceding this new business. I want to say the very first time I came to this location it was the Whiskey Bank. They renovated and nicely ramped up the place with their new brand decor. Hope this new ownership and restaurant have success in lasting here! Fun decor colors. I like the black contrasting with the pink, purple, fuchsia neon colors throughout! Glad that we finally planned our visit! We were greeted by a young hostess and she asked our preference for seating. We opted for the left side where they have the half benches/table seating. The High Tops are closer to the bar and tv viewing. Amaya was our server. She was a delight with her friendly demeanor and contagious smile. She was perfectly attentive to our needs. We came for Wing Wednesday as they are only .75c per wing. Eight for 6 bucks so we ordered two rounds. One BBQ and the second batch was a Dry Rub. I was insistent on the first round "please no sesame seeds" and it came with no sesame seeds. Tho the dry rub came with the seeds. Oops it didn't get specified for the kitchen staff to omit it. I let our waitress know and told her that I'd just wipe them off. It's only a preference not an allergy. I would have had it remade if it was stuck to the wet bbq sauced wings. She apologized and we all stayed lighthearted about the mistake. I got the One Tree Huckleberry Cider. It was pretty good. And a side Caesar Salad to complement my wings. This particular night it wasn't too loud. I guess some people requested for the music to be lowered before we even arrived. I learned this when I complimented that I liked that, where we chose to sit, it was quieter. I also mentioned that I liked that I could still hear the fun (90's hip hop style tunes) just enough to groove to while having our meal. Because who likes to have an induced post visit headache experience. No one ~~ even the staffers. *Note the closer you get to the weekend this place is very happening...ie more club like vibes on the weekend. Overall we were satisfied with our visit. We came hungry and left adequately full! We're already planning on coming back and meeting up with some friends here!

Huge fan! This place is rad. I've been there a hand full of times now, maybe about 5 or so. Have always had an epic experience. The staff is always super welcoming. The ambiance is awesome. It's a fun, lively environment. We've tried quite of a few of their food offerings. We love their brisket wontons and their brisket nachos. Their meats are to die for and the mac and cheese is tasty. The beer battered fries are fire as well, so is the queso dip! I haven't had a beer I didn't like at this place; and I can be a bit of a beer snob. Make sure you check out their wing Wednesday deal as well as their happy hour!! Their wings are so damn good, nice and smoky with a delicious sauce. Also, if you're looking for a place to watch the game...look no further! They've got tv's galore. They also have a small arcade area with about 10+ games or so as well as corn-hole on the patio! From the food to the cleanliness and decor, I really appreciate the attention to detail. Thank you Hill Street Brewing for providing another wonderful option when dining-out in South O, and also offering some deals to make date night affordable. See you soon!

    Marg and wine
    Maddie P.

Drinks weren't the best, order a double marg if you want it to taste like a normal marg. Staff was friendly, but wait was a bit excessive once they got busy. Ended up cancelling our last marg and glass of wine we ordered since it was well over a 15+ min wait and decided to head out. Food was decent, if ur a bbq fan im sure you would enjoy this place. Tried the brisket nachos, wings, and chicken lettuce wrap boats. It wasnt bad but not amazing. They were out of a couple menu items too which was unfortunate aswell. I dont think ill be coming back but im glad i got to try this place out. Fries were great tho

We didn't know we were going to get charged about a 9% tax and about a 10% credit card transaction fee. But the menu says 3% card transaction fee. If you look at the picture, how did the cash become $68.11 when the subtotal is $59.50 and the tax is $5.34 if I were to pay cash, the total should be $64.84 if I was going by their almost 9% tax. Service was a bit slow given there were only about 4 tables including ours. The restaurant is nice. Food is good.

I did not have high expectations for Hill Street Brewing, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the food. I didn't care too much for the decor, but I didn't hate the vibe. Our server was very friendly and attentive. She started us off with some complementary cornbread bites with cinnamon butter and they were pretty good. We got the chips and queso for our appetizer. It wasnt my favorite. Honestly it kind of reminded me of Taco Bell's nacho fries and queso. For our mains, we got the lettuce wraps and the pulled pork sandwich. The lettuce wraps were tasty and the lettuce was crisp. The tangerines and wonton strips were a nice touch and the sauce was spicy but still tasty. The pulled pork sandwich was one of the best I've had. The pork was cooked to perfection and was super juicy and flavorful. The slaw added a nice crunch and the flavor complemented the pork really well. The bun was sturdy and didn't fall apart from all the juice/sauce dripping from the sandwich. Definitely will be back to check out drinks and more of the menu.

Food looked great. Food tasted great. Service was great But the food was room temp. The complimentary bread was room temp and dry. The cinnamon(apple?) Butter was fantastic tho. This is one of the only places that does the quest cheese so imma give it another shot.

This review is for their Happy Hour. Came with a couple of people on a Wednesday around 4pm. Happy hour goes from 3-5:30pm EVERY DAY. Drafts, Wells and House Wines are just $5, and all starters are $10. We ordered a couple of beers (Mexican & Hazy Pale Ale) and a House Red (Pinot, Cab was out). Also ordered the Brisket Nachos ($10), Lettuce Wraps ($10) and Loaded Fries ($10) with Pulled Pork ($5). We also received a little bowl of complimentary cornbread! So good! And now the food. First off: the $10 Brisket Nachos may be the best happy hour deal in all of Oceanside. Yes, you heard that right. Compare this to the sad happy hour nachos at Enzo's BBQ and you'll see what I mean. The plate is HUGE and we absolutely loved it (refried beans is a great touch). The jalapeno's are spicy so watch out. Sooooo damn good. The Loaded Fries came out and they are also HUGE. Granted it was $15, not $10 since we added pulled pork. Very good flavor and the fries themselves are seasoned. The Lettuce Wraps were disappointing. Compare these with Yard House, for instance. Portions were small. They used shredded Jidori chicken, but I would have preferred it diced and the chicken didn't have much flavor. I did really like the Thai Chili sauce - wow that was HOT but the flavor was bomb. I would pass on these next time. The beers were good. I feel like they need more draft options. Only 13 beers and for some reason they printed the beer menu with the smallest font possible. Not very "old people" friendly. Just make the menu and font larger...easy peasy. Our server, Katie R., was OUTSTANDING. By the time we left, the place was getting packed and she brought the bill and boxes promptly with a smile. Great service, thank you! (there was one issue with the bill, the Lettuce Wraps were $18 instead of $10 but she corrected it with the proper change). The place is very large, plenty of seating although the round tables in the bar area were a bit small. The ice waters come in huge cups and there just isn't much room for 3 people. Around this time, the sun was setting and totally in our face. Would be nice to install a screen or something in the windows just to cut down on the glare? We will definitely be back for happy hour again for those nachos and something off the regular menu (burger, fish & chips).

    Brisket Wontons - really great

Same Same, but Different? Not Quite…read more Hiya B.U.M.S., We recently decided to check out Same Same, hoping for an experience that was delightfully different. Our order for the night? The Thai-style New York steak, Khao Soi curry, and larb lettuce cups--all paired with a custom-crafted, half-Cranberry, half-Sprite. Before we even tasted the food, we almost ended up eating next door. The entrances are a bit of a maze, leaving us standing outside having a mini identity crisis about where we actually wanted to dine. Ultimately, we stayed the course and chose Same Same. The Larb Lettuce Cups: As a massive larb fan, I was hyped. Unfortunately, it fell a bit flat. My wife officially dubbed it "lackluster." While the ground beef was seasoned and the lettuce was beautifully crisp, when the lettuce is the undisputed star of your larb, it might be time to reevaluate the recipe. The Yellowtail Ceviche: To recover from the larb disappointment, my wife ordered the ceviche. It was a step up, but for a Thai spot, it was missing that signature kick. It really needed a handful of jalapeños to wake it up. In fact, nothing on the table was truly spicy until I deployed their house chili oil. The Khao Soi Curry: This was the absolute hero of the night! It completely saved the meal. It was rich and delicious, and it paired unexpectedly well with our New York steak--even though the kitchen served it well-done instead of our requested medium-rare. As dinner went on, it became pretty clear that this spot might cater a bit more to the happy hour and drinking crowd, especially considering my Cranberry-Sprite mix was arguably the most flavor-packed thing on the table. That said, the service was fantastic. The staff members were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Pro-Tip: If you're ordering more than two items, do not let them seat you at the tiny tables for two. It's a high-stakes game of food Tetris you will not win. On the bright side, they earned major bonus points for boxing up our leftovers for us. Call me old-fashioned, but I feel like every restaurant should still offer that level of hospitality! Overall, I'd say give it a shot if you're in the neighborhood and looking for a cool atmosphere, but I wouldn't rush off your couch to get there.

One of them was the chicken shawarma, and it was so good! We were able to grab a charming spot outside near their garden, where they actually grow some of the fresh ingredients used in the dishes. Such a cool touch! They also offered a variety of sauces, all of which were delicious. Even the habanero sauce was surprisingly approachable, full of flavor without being overly spicy. The atmosphere was beautiful, the aesthetic was amazing, and the overall experience was fantastic. I would definitely come back.

This time around, it's just the family for Mother's Day. Since I know my food, the table let me order. Fresh hand cut thick long French Fries without a ton of seasoning or oil arrived: one with a cashew cheese truffle sauce, one with no salt, and one salted as requested. My daughter loved her reuben. I loved my blt. The two Caesar salads for the table disappeared quickly because their dressing is unbelievable! Let's see .... what didn't we eat is probably smarter than what did we eat. Beet ketchup, The C Word (braised cabbage), a couple of cronic sushi rolls, and there was a special lemon creme brûlée. Everyone enjoyed everything they ate, including my almost 3 year old grandson (they brought out a specially sliced fruit bowl for him). They offered many choices for kids, but he just wanted fruit. Hope you had as wonderful a Mother's Day as I did. Yes. We appreciated eating healthy and not walking away stuffed but instead satisfied. They were selling plants. So I bought 4 and planted them today! The gift that keeps on giving! We will be back for sure! With garlic, gusto & gratitude, Chef Marian

This was my second time here, and I love everything about this place. First of all, kudos to the bartender--I forgot her name, but she was incredibly generous and kind. She accidentally forgot my drink and kept apologizing, but I told her it was totally fine since we had a large party. To make up for it, she gave me two shots instead of one and even added a big discount. The ambiance of this place is unique and very artsy. If you're looking for a cool, one-of-a-kind spot to hang out, this is it. There's so much attention to detail throughout--even the restroom door is thoughtfully designed with a modern, creative touch. My friend ordered a variety of cocktails, and everyone enjoyed them. The food was great as well. I ordered the hummus plate, and it was the best I've ever had--so fresh and served in a generous portion. My friends tried the pizza and a few other items from the menu, and everything got a thumbs up. If you're in the area looking for a cool place to hang out or planning a party, this is the spot. I'll definitely be back again soon.

First off, they have a "wait to be seated" sign at their entrance, but it took a while to get anyone to seat us. When we were inside, we noticed there was another entrance and people were just walking in, so "waiting to be seated" was just an option? We ordered a beer and seltzer and it took easily 10-15 minutes to get our drinks. Drinks that were in cans by the way. Music was good, DJs were good, but the whole vibe of the place is kinda everywhere. This lighting in this place needs to be more dimmed. DJs are spinning right in the middle of the room, and there's a clothes rack just chilling against the wall. The baristas are way in the back, and you can't really tell who works there. It took equally as long to get the check as it did to get my drinks. We only had 1 round of drinks. I dunno, waiting for canned drinks just threw me off. I can't imagine how much longer it would have taken to get a mixed cocktail. I only saw one guy mixing drinks and a bunch of women just hanging around. I'm assuming workers that look like they don't work there.
