Love Same Same for multiple different situations. Most recently we went here for Happy Hour and it didn't disappoint! The whole bar is vibey and cute, perfect for happy hour or a fun night out. The drinks were delicious and the food was incredible. The bartender was super attentive and took extra time to help me identify which items were gluten free. I've also been to Same Same multiple times for late night fun! They often have a dj in the back and have even hosted an emo night. I always have fun and the place is usually packed. I'll definitely be back both for late night parties and daytime happy hours and food!

Small spot in Carlsbad Village. I loved the ambiance: dark, music poppin, and great drinks and food! I ordered the mommy sandwich and I got the Mucho amor drink, which was absolutely excellent! I have never tasted anything with so much flavor in it. Staff was friendly and gave great service. Sandwich was crispy and flavorful. I definitely wanna come back and check the cocktail menu because that was very good.

Made a reservation for 4 on OpenTable. Located in the village above Coyote Grill. Parking can be a little hard but cars are often going and leaving. Walking in, it is cool, dark, and trendy. They have a bar with cool cocktails and a food menu, Our waiter Sebastian was great - very friendly, attentive, and engaging. Food items are great! They are shareable tapas style items, it's a take on Thai food, and though they didn't have pad thai, they have many other delicious items. All of the items offers pops of flavors like citrus, spice, savory, & sweet for everyone. Definitely start with the samosas (which consist of my fav Massaman curry), cucumber salad (crunchy and thinly sliced) and yellowtail ceviche (milky fish that is paired with the most delicious lime and chili chips!) we also ordered the Panang curry (yummy). If you're up for it, the drinks are funly named and taste good too.

Same Same, but Different? Not Quite. Hiya B.U.M.S., We recently decided to check out Same Same, hoping for an experience that was delightfully different. Our order for the night? The Thai-style New York steak, Khao Soi curry, and larb lettuce cups--all paired with a custom-crafted, half-Cranberry, half-Sprite. Before we even tasted the food, we almost ended up eating next door. The entrances are a bit of a maze, leaving us standing outside having a mini identity crisis about where we actually wanted to dine. Ultimately, we stayed the course and chose Same Same. The Larb Lettuce Cups: As a massive larb fan, I was hyped. Unfortunately, it fell a bit flat. My wife officially dubbed it "lackluster." While the ground beef was seasoned and the lettuce was beautifully crisp, when the lettuce is the undisputed star of your larb, it might be time to reevaluate the recipe. The Yellowtail Ceviche: To recover from the larb disappointment, my wife ordered the ceviche. It was a step up, but for a Thai spot, it was missing that signature kick. It really needed a handful of jalapeños to wake it up. In fact, nothing on the table was truly spicy until I deployed their house chili oil. The Khao Soi Curry: This was the absolute hero of the night! It completely saved the meal. It was rich and delicious, and it paired unexpectedly well with our New York steak--even though the kitchen served it well-done instead of our requested medium-rare. As dinner went on, it became pretty clear that this spot might cater a bit more to the happy hour and drinking crowd, especially considering my Cranberry-Sprite mix was arguably the most flavor-packed thing on the table. That said, the service was fantastic. The staff members were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Pro-Tip: If you're ordering more than two items, do not let them seat you at the tiny tables for two. It's a high-stakes game of food Tetris you will not win. On the bright side, they earned major bonus points for boxing up our leftovers for us. Call me old-fashioned, but I feel like every restaurant should still offer that level of hospitality! Overall, I'd say give it a shot if you're in the neighborhood and looking for a cool atmosphere, but I wouldn't rush off your couch to get there.

We had a couple of drinks and appetizers and all were great. The atmosphere is energetic and fun with a mixed age groups crowd. I would definitely go back.

Good food, great service. The atmosphere is like a San Francisco pub in the 1990's. The bar area is crowded and the dining area is small and cramped. The noise level is loud but it is definitely fun. Not a quiet place to have a conversation by any means. We came here for drinks and appetizers. The chicken hit it out of the ballpark. Finger licking good! I'm not experienced with having cocktails so I am not the person to take advice from but I liked what I ordered. It's not what I expected but it felt like a throw back to a different time with a lot of personality. Two thumbs up. Just heads up, those photos you see on Yelp, those items may or may not be on the menu. They said sometimes they have pop-ups where the menu changes. Check out their Insta account before going. We didn't know this in advance. (Lost a star for the short ribs. Skip them. )

Really fun Thai fusion restaurant! Good food, fun drinks, and really nice ambiance. Perfect for date night or fun dinner with friends. Menu isn't very big,. We settled on the Khao Soi chicken curry with egg noodle, larb lettuce cups, and Grilled Steak with thai chili dipping sauce. Best was the grilled steak, least favorite was the kaho soi chicken curry noodles. Noodles were a bit overcooked and the curry wasn't very flavorful. Steak was great though. The chili dipping sauce paired really well with the perfectly cooked medium rare steak and we ended up pouring the remainder of the sauce in our noodles. We arrived around 5ish on a Saturday night and they were already pretty busy. We ended up sitting at the bar instead of the dining room but had a great experience nonetheless. Service was great and very attentive. Would definitely come back!

I was craving some Tom Kha soup so this place came up on my search. I should have seen that this place is more of a bar than a restaurant because when we walked in, the place did not look like any Thai restaurant we have been to. The atmosphere was more artsy and definitely looked and felt more like a bar than a restaurant which is fine if you are looking for a bar with a restaurant rather than a restaurant with a bar. Anyway, the menu selection was limited. We got the Tom Kha soup, Chicken Satay, and the Korean short ribs. The soup was tasty but a bit on the salty side. The meat for the satay and short ribs was very tender with good flavor. But the amount of food we received seemed small for the price. Good thing we were not too hungry. Service was good. Our server was friendly and checked on us every so often. This restaurant was in the Carlsbad Village and the time we went it was as crowded so we parked on the street.

What a perfect way to end a big day! We wrapped up an exciting evening of networking and celebrations in Carlsbad by heading over to Same Same for dinner and it was absolutely the right call. We ordered the wonton samosas, corn ribs, marinated cucumbers, and finished with the khao soi curry with tofu on the recommendation of our server, Mike. Everything was flavorful, fresh. The corn ribs were a little on the salty side but still delicious and totally addictive. The wonton samosas were a wonderful surprise. It was a creative, flavorful twist on traditional Indian samosas that we weren't expecting but loved. The marinated cucumbers were a refreshing complement to everything else on the table. But the real star of the meal? The khao soi. Beautifully spicy with just the right hint of lemongrass, just enough to shine, but not so much that it overpowered the other flavors or turned bitter. It was perfectly balanced and absolutely memorable. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. Shoutout to Mike for the spot-on recommendation! If you're in Carlsbad and love bold, globally-inspired flavors, Same Same is a must. We'll definitely be back.

I can't believe it was our first time at Same Same! Went in on a Saturday night a little after 9:00. We were looking at the menu and the bartender informed us the kitchen had closed at nine. Very common for the area but so disappointing for a weekend night. I had the simple Rick and upgraded to Tito's. It was delicious but a bit pricey at $17. My husband had a local IPA and liked it. The service was good. The vibe is great and the decor is really cute and kitschy. There is a DJ that starts at 10, at least on the weekends. A lot of people were coming in, definitely had a club vibe by the time we left. We will be back to try the food!

CHICKEN SATAY (GF), HOT POTATO (V,GF), SINGHA THAI LAGER 5.0%

My husband and I came here for our first wedding anniversary and it was amazing! Don't let the small menu fool you - every single thing we ate was delicious! FOOD: - hot potatoes: has a pickled radish and some sort of crème sauce that was so good - these were my husband's favorite. - chicken satay: It came with pickled cucumber (think when it's cucumber kimchi, but it wasn't a kimchi type of marinade). The peanut sauce had a little spice (if you don't have any spice tolerance I would avoid the sauce, but it was sooo good). This was my favorite. - khao soi curry (has egg noodles) and that was delicious. We added the brisket to it which was a good add. My husband ate his so fast and I had to make him not take any more so we could have leftovers! DRINKS: - we got complimentary champagne for our anniversary which was so so sweet of them and made our night! The champagne itself was actually one of the best champagnes I have had. It had a nice sweetness to it. - my husband had the thai lager, which he said was okay. It tasted like most lagers he's had. - we shared the tangerine you are my sex machine as it sounded interesting and i do have to say this was the only thing we weren't big fans of. it was very smokey, but my husband put "old boat motor" in my head and that's all we could taste. if you love smokey drinks this would be for you. - I had a house cocktail that I cannot remember the name of for the life of me, but it was sweet, peachy (I think) and had champagne in it from what I remember. It was so good and would get it again! The vibe inside the restaurant was cool and there are over 30 tigers (our server counted for us, but she said she couldn't even find them all). The bathrooms were cute and very clean. 10/10 recommend. The check even came in a romance novel!

Is this a joke. Thai lettuce wraps with ground beef and lettuce. Zero sauce to go with it. NEVER going back to this place. Awful. I don't think it's possible to put less effort into the food you're selling. I give this place six months to a year before it's out of business. They should refund me it was that bad.

My husband and I stopped in to Frankie's on a recent Saturday at 5pm. Our kiddo had a performance down the street at 6pm so we had a little time to kill beforehand. The neighboring spots looked busy so we decided to go with Frankie's, seeing as they were less inundated at the time and we had a time constraint. Another allure was the sandwich board at the front door advertising discounted cocktails - sold!! Inside there were a handful of patrons at the bar, another table with two additional patrons and maybe a couple on the patio so it was fairly quiet and slow, so it looked promising. We headed up to the bar and hung out behind two empty barstools, the single female bartender greeted us and said she'd be right with us, but then continued chatting up the seated patrons, serving them and their friends that had just joined (AFTER we'd arrived). We moved a little further down to the handoff area where she was making drinks to save her having to come back to us again, and stood there for probably 10 minutes while she took orders and made all the drinks. We commented that she looked like she could definitely use a hand, and she said they were still adjusting into summer hours and determining whether more coverage was needed at this time - I figured 5pm on a Saturday should be primetime, so I'm not sure in what universe having a single bartender makes any sense. Finally we placed our cocktail orders, waited while they were made, and then put our card down for the tab. After we'd paid, I noticed the cocktails were more expensive than advertised on the sandwich board out front - I couldn't find a disclaimer anywhere that said only certain cocktails were included, so while it was a bummer I wasn't about to wait another 10-15 minutes to catch her attention and ask for clarification. Just a heads up to beware of whatever is advertised that might summon you in from the sidewalk, and make sure you ask before you make your selection. Drinks were very subpar, nothing special to write home about. While I can appreciate the Gatsby-esque vibe they're trying to uphold at Frankie's, they really should increase their staffing especially during prime weekend and evening hours, and be more transparent about their specials and what's included and what's not. Hindsight is 20/20, and the low volume of patrons when everything else around it was going off was probably a sign, so we'll skip Frankie's our next go around.

There's so much attention to detail throughout--even the restroom door is thoughtfully designed with a modern, creative touch. My friend ordered a variety of cocktails, and everyone enjoyed them. The food was great as well. I ordered the hummus plate, and it was the best I've ever had--so fresh and served in a generous portion. My friends tried the pizza and a few other items from the menu, and everything got a thumbs up. If you're in the area looking for a cool place to hang out or planning a party, this is the spot. I'll definitely be back again soon.
