The good part is the food is better than average for being a busy spot right by the beach. We do order fries and chicken fingers a lot for the kids! The bad is it's disgustingly dirty, even in the mornings. The trash cans are deep with dirt and food and just grime, and the grounds are just as bad. Since you are by the beach, you have dogs constantly urinating around the tables in the area and who knows what else. If this place would just power wash a couple times a week it would make a world of difference. read more

I've been wanting to try Tin Fish for a while (their Instagram always makes me laugh), so I finally stopped by and it did not disappoint. It's in such a great spot right under the pier in Oceanside, which already makes it feel like a win. I got the dragon fruit bowl and really loved it. My family has been coming to Tin Fish for well over a decade. We've always counted on consistently amazing food and friendly service, which is why today's experience was so disappointing. When we arrived, the young men working the shack were ignoring customers waiting in line to order while they ate ice cream and joked around in the back. It gave the impression that customer service was not a priority. Unfortunately, the food reflected that lack of attention as well. The fries were cold and completely unseasoned, the coleslaw tasted different--and not for the better--and our fish was served without the usual lemon. Those may seem like small details individually, but together they made for a very disappointing meal. I realize I'm fortunate to be in a position where I'm complaining about food, but when you spend $70 for three takeout plates, it's reasonable to expect the quality and service Tin Fish has always been known for. My wife and I, we're from Vegas, stayed at the beachfront Wyndham in Oceanside a few days for our 56th anniversary. Tin Fish is a five minute walk on the beach. We split a cheeseburger for a light snack on the beach the first afternoon. Could be the best cheeseburger ever. That night went to an expensive dinner for our anniversary. Just ok. The next day I walked from our resort pool to Tin Fish at lunch for two more burgers to go. Fantastic. Later that day we cancelled reservations at a high end steak house, would have easily been $150 or more. Yep, got two dinners from Tin Fish and ate on our balcony for sunset. I don't come down to Oceanside often, but during a quick day trip to the beach, we discovered a great spot for seafood and more! As we walked down the pier, we didn't seem to have a lot of options for lunch. So, as we walked down to the beach, we noticed Tin Fish at the bottom of the stairwell. We checked to see what was on their menu and noticed that they had a great variety of seafood, burgers, acai bowls, and shakes. I ordered the jumbo shrimp with fries and my husband ordered the grilled mahi mahi sandwich with onion rings. They gave us a little buzzer and we waited for our food to be ready. It didn't take long for the buzzer to go off. Since the weather was nice, we opted to eat our lunch out on the beach. When we opened up our food containers, we were pleased with the size of the portions of food that we got. It was enough to fill us up without overdoing it. One thing that I don't like is when food is unseasoned. Tin Fish's fries had some type of spice on them that tasted like Cajun seasoning! It was great! The fries would have been fine without ketchup as well. The shrimp was evenly breaded and also cooked with the same seasoning! I was very pleased! I really liked that our time in Oceanside led to us discovering new places that are a quick train ride from OC. I enjoyed the food at Tin Fish so much that before we caught the train back to OC, we ordered an orange cream float before we left. Tin Fish is located on the Oceanside strand. It's a little stand with outdoor seating. There's plenty of seating with umbrellas The view of the ocean is great. You order at the window. They give you a number and call it out from the pick up window. They have a great variety of options, mostly fried. I got the clam chowder because I'm at the beach! It was thick and full of potatoes. I would've liked more clams. I did not love it. I did love the fish tacos and onion rings! The fish taco was a nice portion. I couldn't eat it all. The portion size was great. My husband had become famished so we decided to stop here. Environment - there are lots of seating right outside the restaurant with great view of all the haps. Service - nothing to complain about! The people working were very genuine and gave great recommendations. Food - opted for the fish and chips and it did not disappoint. It took forever to get our food on a Saturday at about 1:30 pm. They took orders fast but it took 35 mins to get our food and you can see lots of people waiting for their food. The fish batter was not crispy and the fish was dry and I feel like it came out of the freezer. They give you a lot of crisscut fries but if all you want to pay the premium they charge on cheap potatoes, go for this place. The burger patty was undercooked and bloody. The clam chowder was room temperature and was dry and full of potatoes. Very overpriced for what you get here. It took a while for our food to be done and we were so hungry while waiting. There are plenty of outdoor tables to seat but the only thing you need to be mindful is the competitions for your food, with incudes birds, bees, and flies! When food came out, salad was good and the grilled mixed plate was good but for the price, it was so little... so, I think it was pretty expensive! I was still hungry and wanted to go and order some more but there was a line and I didn't want to wait another 30 minutes at least for the next time I could eat again here so we didn't order more. Brought the family to the Tin Fish for dinner. It was delicious and HUGE! The fish was perfectly fried. Tender and delicious. NOT a beer batter which I like. The waffle fries were good and plentiful. The shrimp and calamari were cooked perfectly and paired well with all of the house made sauces. We had so much food that we had to take boxes home and had a whole extra meal for the next day! The kicker is, for everything being fried, it WAS NOT GREASY. This means they change their oil and cook at the right temps! I wasn't mad, I was just hungry. The main guy prepared my order after that very quickly. When I went to pick up my order at the window I also was given a refund NOT expecting that and wasn't necessary but thank you. Then I was told he would like to give me a piece of chicken for my dog... again NOT expected and thank you so kindly. This little spot if located almost under the pier in its center with views of the beach depending on where you're sitting.
