Parking is super easy there's a parking lot right in front of the restaurant Service was superrr slow Sophie greeted us upon arrival and made sure we were seated in an area that we enjoyed We asked to sit in the happy hour area as opposed to the standard seating area so we could try the happy hour menu (you can only order from the happy hour menu at the bar, outdoor patio or happy hour section ) We arrived at 3:45 on a Sunday Did not get our food until after 5:00pm The baked crab and artichoke dip was delicious and remained warm throughout the hour The calamari strips were decent The drink specials include $12 margaritas $14 hand crafted cocktails and $9 bubbly The vibe was nice and chill with low music in the background My only issue was the super slow service Our server Andrew remained calm but he did not check on us that often and took a long amount of time to take our order and bring our food My mother loved her salmon but my scallops were unfortunately cold I love that the kids meal came with both fruit and fries in this cute container which was cool Overall it was a decent experience

Host told us 30 min wait

This review is solely on the host and the estimated wait time. My husband and I have tried coming here twice without a reservation, and the most recent visit was on a Thursday evening. We have yet been able to sit down and actually try the food because we've walked away. For a table of 2, we were told the wait would be 30 minutes. We can easily see there were plenty of tables in the dining area. We were hungry and put our name down, but we decided to walk away and visit another restaurant that also served seafood. This is a disappointment because 5 minutes after we put our name down, we received a text saying our table was ready. This would've been a great wait time if we were honestly told how long it would be. Even if they told us 15 minutes, we might have waited longer! But we were already sitting at a nice restaurant across the street. We are in Carlsbad Village after all. There are other restaurants to choose from. The first time we tried, it was for a table of 4 on a Saturday evening and we were told a 2 hour wait. The wait times are so long, but is it even a good estimate? I don't know.. we've never stayed long enough to see.

First time at the Carlsbad location. Went to the one in Little Italy years ago and wanted to try this one out. It's great. We ended up sitting at the bar because it was a bit crowded and we didn't have reservations. The bartenders were amazing. They were all friendly and attentive to everyone at the bar. The food was very good! I really enjoyed the trout where you can ask for different sides if you didn't want the scallops potatoes and green beans that it comes with. I don't love green beans so I substituted it for sautéed spinach. The fish was cooked to a nice temperature and it was moist and flaky. The complimentary sourdough bread with butter was delicious. The sushi roll was ok. I would skip that unless you don't want any of their other entrees.

Great menu with fresh seafood selections!! Right near the beach. Very casual and the friendliest staff. Very airy restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Parking lot.

I came here with my family on a Thursday afternoon. We were a party of eight and they were able to see us a little bit earlier. Sitting outside is lovely and there are umbrellas for shade. However, the train does come by every now and then, and it can get a little bit loud. The server was very attentive and was checking up on us consistently. Now... onto the food. The food was amazing. We came during happy hour, and we ordered the poke nachos, the crab and artichoke dip, and the fish tacos. Everything was incredible. The fish was very fresh and prices are reasonable. Another star of the show was the shrimp tacos, which are not pictured. The calamari was super crispy. I also got the fish and chips which were delicious. The fries were crispy and the tartar sauce was great. I will definitely be coming back here.

I've been coming to Bluewater for years now. I have to say I've had some good experiences and some not so great. This night was bad. I arrived to meet friends who were already seated. They had bread, but ordered more for us late comers. It was a while before a server came to the table, long enough that when he came to take our drink orders we had viewed the menu and were ready to order our food too. He was friendly and patient though. We again requested the bread that never came prior. They were somewhat busy as it was happy hour so we waited a bit. We just chatted and caught up. After a while we once again requested bread as it still hadn't been brought to us. Third time was a charm and we were finally brought bread. The bread was the highlight of the meal. Served warm, it is soft inside and crunchy out side with a soft butter accompaniment. Shortly thereafter, our food arrived except for one of our party's orders. Two people ordered firecracker shrimp and they were cold upon arrival. One decided to send it back. Sadly my scallops were so rubbery that the provided fork and spoon could barely cut through it. (You can see my picture from the last time I had this dish and the drastic difference was clear) I hate sending food back so I ate it but it was pretty bad. The missing order arrived and it was supposed to be blackened fish tacos. The ratio of cabbage and salsa on top to the small amount of fish in the taco was disappointing, as was the lack of seasoning. Also, we would have liked more water but it was never offered and we didn't see the server until we waved him down for the check. I've tried a lot of items on their menu over the years but the lack of quality and consistency I experienced on this night may have me rethinking that choice, unfortunately.

Mother's Day lunchtime, and it was busy. Three of us were seated at a great indoor table to watch the people traffic on the Village. Ordered Fisherman's platter, Sautee Sand Dabs, Pan-seared Salmon and Shrimp cocktail appetizer--and endless bread basket. And a house momosa for Mom. All the food was fresh and cooked to perfection. Excellent service provided by James.

Bluewater Grill is my go-to for generous portions of fresh and flavorful seafood. I've been to this location a couple of times since it's in walking distance. It has both a casual and intimate atmosphere which is really nice. The service from staff especially at the bar could be better...may depend on the staff and may depend on which day. I wish it was consistent in terms of attentiveness. As a result, I honestly have mixed feelings about my overall experience.

Just came here last night and omg, everything was SOOO GOOD!! It blows some of the other seafood restaurants out of the water...literally!!! Came here last night and was greeted with nice staff and seated at a nice table. Complementary warm sourdough bread!!! You had me at that! My mom and I ordered the octopus as an appetizer to share and my husband got the clam chowder. Both were delicious! I'm picky about my octopus and this one hits! Love the potatoes and sauce it comes with. Was perfect texture. My husband got the clam chowder and he loved it, even more than the one at Ketch, and I agree. It was very good and flavorful. Filling too! My mom and I were kinda full from the app but we still ordered the scallops and cioppino and a side of scallop potatoes to share. My husband got the trout. All were sooo good! The almonds were a great texture on the trout, as were his potatoes. The cioppino was very good, lots of clam, mussels, shrimp and various fish, so filling, we only ate half. The scallops and mushroom/spinach was delish! That dish was my mom's favorite. She loved the light sauce it came in. The scallops were cooked perfectly. We were so full but were celebrating a birthday so had to finish with a cake. The coffee cake was fire! Coffee ice cream was super good and I'm not a coffee ice cream person. Lots of taste and texture with the chocolate crust and white/chocolate chips and almonds in it. Bomb.com hehe! Will definitely come back! Food was spectacular and so was the service. :)

Food was PHENOMENAL- every component was well prepared, seasoned, and plated! It was delicious - we really enjoyed the misoyaki butterfish as well as the sanddabs! Also, the portion sizes were great - especially for the kids meals!!! Service was very patient and friendly with us, even though we had 3 kids & a double stroller. The host, server, and manager made us feel welcomed & important! It was a great environment for our family - I was a bit concerned at first because it's a nicer restaurant BUT we were met with GREAT HOSPITALITY! There are RESTROOMS inside, along with a changing table available. There is a plethora of both outdoor seating and indoor seating; along with bar top seating.

    Steak was a tad fatty.
    Cupcake M.

I will be honest, you lost me with your patio seating. It was about 615 and I was directly in the sun on a warmer day. You could easily add more shade to the rest of the patio. I just felt for what I paid for my meal, the steak and lobster I should have had a more comfortable experience and not holding a menu to shade myself. My steak also had a a lot of fat in my opinion too. Lobster and potato were good. 3.5 stars.

Pretty good! Always a lively place, normally sit at the bar but also has great patio seating and live music. The foods all like a 7/10 nothing extra crazy good but still delicious!! Have tried basically all the apps at this point. Bartenders are very attentive and always offering free bread. Would recommend and will be back

Bluewater Grill Seafood Restaurant & Market Carlsbad Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Bluewater Grill Seafood Restaurant & Market Carlsbad

I would like to know if Happy Hour is on the patio or just in the Bar?

In the bar and on the patio.

What are the most recommended dishes?

We really enjoyed steak and lobster aka surf and turf although it was bit expensive. Ironically I would never order lobster roll again. The worst one ever.

Can we bring our dog for outside seating?

    Absolutely, we are dog friendly!

Do they have a happy hour?

    Sunday to Thursday 3pm-6pm

    Where is the parking?

They have their own lot on the side of the restaurant.

No reservations tor parties less than six. I'm concerned I'll show up tonight and have issues getting a table. Any thoughts on best time to get there so we have a relaxing and positive experience?

I've only been there for lunch, which is fantastic!! Don't know about the dinner crowd. Of course a quick phone call to them would be your best bet.

    Happy hour hours?

    Gluten free options available?

    Yes, just ask your server👍🏼

What is the wine corkage fee?

Can you order fried oysters at your restaurant?

Is there valet parking? Or ample handicapped parking? Mom and dad are meeting us there and they can't walk far.

No valet parking. a couple of handicap parking space. Plenty of close to the door parking spaces

Is happy hour in the lounge area only?

    Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are allowed on the patio. There are 2 patios

Can I bring in my own bottle of wine and is there a corkage fee?

Can we bring our own bottle of wine?

I don't know, but you can call the restaurant. Everybody there is really nice

Is there a corkage fee and if so, what is it?

Can I make a reservation for two,for the crabby event on June 12th?

Yes of course. Call the Grill directly.

Do you have happy hour, or early bird dinner.?

Yes! Happy hour is Monday through Friday 3pm to 6pm. See you soon.…

My husband and I stopped in to Frankie's on a recent Saturday at 5pm. Our kiddo had a performance down the street at 6pm so we had a little time to kill beforehand. The neighboring spots looked busy so we decided to go with Frankie's, seeing as they were less inundated at the time and we had a time constraint. Another allure was the sandwich board at the front door advertising discounted cocktails - sold!! Inside there were a handful of patrons at the bar, another table with two additional patrons and maybe a couple on the patio so it was fairly quiet and slow, so it looked promising. We headed up to the bar and hung out behind two empty barstools, the single female bartender greeted us and said she'd be right with us, but then continued chatting up the seated patrons, serving them and their friends that had just joined (AFTER we'd arrived). We moved a little further down to the handoff area where she was making drinks to save her having to come back to us again, and stood there for probably 10 minutes while she took orders and made all the drinks. We commented that she looked like she could definitely use a hand, and she said they were still adjusting into summer hours and determining whether more coverage was needed at this time - I figured 5pm on a Saturday should be primetime, so I'm not sure in what universe having a single bartender makes any sense. Finally we placed our cocktail orders, waited while they were made, and then put our card down for the tab. After we'd paid, I noticed the cocktails were more expensive than advertised on the sandwich board out front - I couldn't find a disclaimer anywhere that said only certain cocktails were included, so while it was a bummer I wasn't about to wait another 10-15 minutes to catch her attention and ask for clarification. Just a heads up to beware of whatever is advertised that might summon you in from the sidewalk, and make sure you ask before you make your selection. Drinks were very subpar, nothing special to write home about. While I can appreciate the Gatsby-esque vibe they're trying to uphold at Frankie's, they really should increase their staffing especially during prime weekend and evening hours, and be more transparent about their specials and what's included and what's not. Hindsight is 20/20, and the low volume of patrons when everything else around it was going off was probably a sign, so we'll skip Frankie's our next go around.

The friendly staff was very knowledgeable about the menu and helpful in my decision to keep it Summer related. Not too long afterwards, my order came out. Looove the quick service! Both female bartenders were slaying it as soon as the line grew. It was niiice to see the world cup on the t.v. screen. I enjoyed watching it while I ate my yummy food and watched the magical sunset. More people showed up closer to the golden hour. Overall, I had a wonderful experience. Highly recommend this coastal hot spot to the Yelp Community!!

They recently updated their seating as well, to super comfortable seats. The food was really good as well! We had the shareable fondue, the prosciutto flatbread, the quesadilla, and one of their salads, and the food was delicious! Overall recommend this spot, but really wish they would add service or bring back the QR codes to order from the table. Plus you can't beat that gorgeous view of the beach and palm trees.

One of them was the chicken shawarma, and it was so good! We were able to grab a charming spot outside near their garden, where they actually grow some of the fresh ingredients used in the dishes. Such a cool touch! They also offered a variety of sauces, all of which were delicious. Even the habanero sauce was surprisingly approachable, full of flavor without being overly spicy. The atmosphere was beautiful, the aesthetic was amazing, and the overall experience was fantastic. I would definitely come back.

This time around, it's just the family for Mother's Day. Since I know my food, the table let me order. Fresh hand cut thick long French Fries without a ton of seasoning or oil arrived: one with a cashew cheese truffle sauce, one with no salt, and one salted as requested. My daughter loved her reuben. I loved my blt. The two Caesar salads for the table disappeared quickly because their dressing is unbelievable! Let's see .... what didn't we eat is probably smarter than what did we eat. Beet ketchup, The C Word (braised cabbage), a couple of cronic sushi rolls, and there was a special lemon creme brûlée. Everyone enjoyed everything they ate, including my almost 3 year old grandson (they brought out a specially sliced fruit bowl for him). They offered many choices for kids, but he just wanted fruit. Hope you had as wonderful a Mother's Day as I did. Yes. We appreciated eating healthy and not walking away stuffed but instead satisfied. They were selling plants. So I bought 4 and planted them today! The gift that keeps on giving! We will be back for sure! With garlic, gusto & gratitude, Chef Marian

We went for some drinks and something to eat after an event and it was the perfect place to wind down, listen to some great music and just enjoy yourself and your company. We had the charcuterie board with meat and it was perfect. There were a lot of different meats and cheeses I thoroughly enjoyed and a perfect accompaniment to the drinks, which was my main focus. I had the Exotica '58 Tiki and my gf had the Midnight Driver. Both were delicious and potent and looked incredible (see pic). We will definitely be back here but next time we might bring some folks to join the vibe... or maybe not. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the host (I forgot his name, but it starts with a V?). Super friendly and helped all of us feel at home; Would occasionally check-in to make sure our needs were taken care of too. Sometimes you walk into bars and deal with judgy/pretentious people or service workers and we didn't get that impression at all from any of the staff here. My girlies and I ended up sitting in the outside area, which honestly was a great choice due to the humid weather AND we got a great view of the beach sunset. It's a bit stuffy (when it's hot), but still nice inside the establishment. We also ordered some drinks and tiramisu to make the most of our time there. Overall, Sound By The Sea is a great spot to catch-up and unwind during one of those longer summer nights (cue the Summer Nights song by Lil Rob lol). I hope you also enjoy the same fun experience my friends and I shared yesterday. Thank you. :-)
