My wife and I brought our 11-month-old to Piper in Oceanside, and the restaurant made it a delightful experience for all three of us -- including an amuse bouche made just for the baby. Service was exceptional. Our server was genuinely kind and noticed small details about our family throughout the night, going out of her way to make sure everyone -- baby included -- felt taken care of. The ambiance is gorgeous. It's a smaller restaurant, but well appointed, with a visible open kitchen and bar that give it energy without sacrificing intimacy. It's family-friendly, but easily works for a date night too. Drinks were alcohol-forward and well made. Mine was similar to a very well-crafted old fashioned. For appetizers, we had the oysters and the pea soup. The oysters were very good, though the greens mixed in made them a bit tricky to swallow whole. The pea soup, on the other hand, was delicious. For mains, my wife had the sea bass and I had the pork schnitzel. My wife raved about the sea bass, saying it tasted a league or two above what the price would suggest. My schnitzel was equally delicious -- perfectly deep-fried, with vegetables on the side that cut nicely through the richness. Price came out to about $85 per person, which felt very reasonable given the quality across the board. Samantha at Piper inside The Seabird Hotel was absolutely wonderful! She made me the most delicious strawberries and cream latte and greeted my friend group with such a warm, friendly disposition. She went above and beyond by recommending that we have lunch on the rooftop at their sister restaurant so that, as out-of-towners, we could enjoy the beautiful ocean view. Amongst many dining experiences that are less than stellar these days, Piper stands out not only because of the amazing taste of the food they serve, but even more so because of the incredible experience they work hard to deliver. From our fantastic server who was beautiful inside and out, to the wait staff and the management who helped us with our reservation and checked in to see how our experience was, we were blown away with how special they made us feel and how attentive they were. One of the members of our dining party has a food allergy and the staff went above and beyond to ensure they acknowledged her allergy and she felt comfortable and safe. Our group wanted to try several things so we all shared several items. We had the grilled shrimp and burrata to start, both super tasty and savory, but the stars of the show were the Parker House rolls and honey butter- OMG!! Must try. The Pappardelle (clearly fresh and made from scratch) with meat sauce was really delicious as well along with ice cream and cookies for dessert. Came here twice for breakfast when I was staying at the seabird. There is something for everyone on the menu. Food comes out relatively quickly and service is very friendly and never rushed. Food was better than okay but nothing phenomenal. Oatmeal was so bland and nothing was done to it other than put some fruit on top of it. Super delicious! I stayed at the seabird and got Piper for breakfast with my family. I got the açaí bowl, a side of garlic potato's, and a hot chocolate with added pistachio syrup. The açaí bowl was wonderfully sweet, with plenty of toppings to add a nice crunch. The garlic potato's were excellent, with a crunchy outer layer and a very soft, hot middle. I came with a group of my friends to celebrate a birthday. Loved that the restaurant isn't far from the amazing sunset views! I chose to have a mocktail to start, which was the Yuzu Berry Spritz. Very light and refreshing way to start a meal. The bread was nice and soft with butter, honey and salt that was accompanied with it. Before our mains came out, we had an amuse bouche. Not sure what was in it but it was pretty good! For my main, I had the seared seabass. It was beautifully plated on top of the broccolini and I enjoyed the artichoke potage accompaniment. I got to taste the lamb shank, with was fork tender! The New York steak was also perfectly cooked and well seasoned. For dessert, I chose the chocolate chip cookie, which was meh. I wasn't very impressed for a $5 dollar cookie. The server highly recommended this, so my expectations were a little high. omg i never expected to be wowed!!!! the hamachi crudo was the star for me!!! i love the tangy and the little spice!!! i could eat the whole plate sadly had to share lol. the spring lamb also was so awesome with the fried lentils. not gamey and was cooked at the right temperature. This restaurant is located inside The Seabird Hotel. We had breakfast here around 9am on a Monday and the only tables available were outside. It was a little chilly but that's fine. Our servers name was Monse I believe and she was excellent. We had mimosas, an americano, lobster thermidor with cheese grits, and the steak and eggs. Out of the two entrees my favorite was the lobster thermidor which was an egg scramble with chunks of lobster and cheese. The cheesy grits were also delicious. The steak was overcooked so it wasn't doing it for me. Overall I'd say the food is pretty good for being a hotel restaurant I would dine again. The only thing with sitting outside is we saw the occasional transient person threatening patrons. We all just ignored them but it would be nice if they had a little more privacy on the patio from the street. read more

I reading many good reviews for Piper Restaurant at Seabird Resort in Oceanside, so I made a reservation before our stay there. For dinner, the staff greeted us nicely and made us feel welcome. The place is cozy and feels like home. Our server Sara was very good. She helped us choose our food. We started with Duck Liver Mousse. It was excellent and very tasty. For main dishes, the Brandt New York Steak was perfect. The Cioppino looked nice, but the taste was just okay. We came back the next day for breakfast. The Lobster Omelette and Crab Cake Benedict were both very good and delicious. The service was great, and most of the food was wonderful. I will come back again next time I stay at Seabird Resort. Piper is the main breakfast restaurant for the Seabird and Mission Pacific resorts (it also serves lunch and dinner). Usually hotel restaurants in the US are subpar, but this one was filled with locals in addition to hotel guests. The presence of locals is always a good sign in a resort area. I only tried the breakfast menu, but I was very impressed and would definitely go for lunch and/or dinner. The only reason I didn't give it 5-stars was because of the prices. I know it's a resort, but $16 for a side of berries in Oceanside seems laughable. They also add a 6 percent fee on top of the bill in order to pay their employees (this is in addition to tip). The acai bowl at Piper was the best I've ever had. So good that I ordered it three times! The house-made hemp granola was fantastic and the acai was thick and not too sweet. I appreciated the ample sunflower butter and berries. The SD based fermented hot sauces were also a treat, and I enjoyed them on my savory items. The huevos rancheros was the best of the savory items I tried. I'm not generally a beef eater, but the brisket was fantastic. The food was great and the service was attentive--based on that alone I would rate it a 4. They have a nice patio for outdoor dining and people watching. We were asked three times about food allergies, and the chef accommodated a seafood allergy in his complimentary amuse bouche. Food wise, I had parpadelle--the sauce was delicious and the pasta cooked to a perfect al dente. My friends both ordered the English Pea Soup as their entrees, and said it was the best pea soup they had ever had. The broth for the soup was poured at the table--although the waiter brought out two carafes for the soup, one contained only half of the order. The server did not acknowledge this until we made a comment, then he brought out additional soup. Two additional observations: 1) although the hotel has a view of the beach and the sunset, the restaurant does not; 2) our check had surprise charges on it. Mine said, " your check includes a 6% surcharge to help offset the cost of State & City minimum wage increases. The surcharge is not a tip or gratuity." One of my party had an additional $3 charge added to her cocktail. These prices should be added to the price of the menu items or disclosed earlier, not surprise add-ons to the check. read more

The staff were truly lovely. Service was polished, warm, and attentive from start to finish. We loved our dinner here! I was a bit skeptical since it is a restaurant inside a hotel, but we had a wonderful time. Located in the SeaBird Resort in downtown Oceanside right across from the beach, Piper has that classy beachside aesthetic with light grey and sand wood colors. Our party of 4 started off with the Prager Bros bread & whipped butter with sea salt and the Grilled Peaches appetizer. Both of servers (Juan and Jackson) were both amazing- definitely better than average. The fact that we had TWO GREAT experiences in one day doesn't seem to be a coincidence. Buffet was the intial option but went with the Ala cart as i didn't have the stomach to indulge in the buffet, maybe next time! So I ordered the O'side over medium eggs, potatoes, bacon with toast. As simple and home-easy this can be they didn't screw with it. They did this basic breakfast solid by not adding any flair or surprises. Bacon was thick and crispy, my over medium the egg yolk was perfectly oozing out, the potatoes were actually my favorite thing as it was so crisp and crunchy yet the inside was fluffy as can be, toast was sourdough and again spot on. simple with brioche french toast which was in my opinion text book! It had this nice toast exterior with a slight crisp and the bread went from texture to nice custard texture. Needed syrup for sweetness but that's what I prefer and expect from my french toast. Well made! Love that there's no condiments on the table and they serve it! I honestly thought they were gonna grab the oside order from the buffet line which I am so glad they didn't! We stayed across the street at mission pacific and came down for an afternoon pick me up after service at the roof top bar was so painful. We ordered deserts and coffee. The host was such a nice gentleman and so friendly. We sat at the bar and the bar tender was lovely. She was very sweet, attentive and brought everything swiftly. The cappuccino was great, came hot and a beautiful sprinkle of cinnamon on top. We ordered the chocolate cake which was good. Service and atmosphere was 5 stars. With two kids the AYOE option was not the best for our party so we did the a la carte breakfast/brunch option. They had a kids menu so we were able to get oatmeal for the kids but it was a small bowl and while it was more than plenty for our two toddlers I'm not sure how it would have been sufficient for kids up to 10 or 12 years old. Similar story with many of the adult a la carte entrees. Another in my party got the adult portion of the oatmeal which came with peach compote and fruits and it also looked skimpy for the price. Stayed at The Seabird for a few days and had breakfast at Piper each morning since it's included in the Hyatt Globalist breakfast benefit. We ordered the Cinnamon pull-apart bread to share once morning and did not anticipate what a huge portion it was! Would only recommend getting this if you're with a table of 4+. The hubs, his mini-me, and I could only eat a third of this, so had to take the rest to-go, and still could not finish it since it's very sweet. I also ordered the Avocado Toast to with House Cured Smoked Salmon. The salmon portion was very generous as well, so the hubs had some of it too. Hubs had the first class mimosa (pomegranate, rosemary, and sparkling wine) and the Summer Farmer omelette and enjoyed both. His mini-me had lots of fruit and greek yogurt, which she loved. Would highly recommend ordering off the a la carte menu even if the weekend brunch buffet is offered, since I do find that the former's offerings are fresh and generously portioned. Be sure to reservations in advance since they do get pretty busy on weekends, and plenty of folks staying at the Mission Pacific come over here for breakfast as well. Do note that the restaurant is on the ground floor and adjacent to the check-in front desk, so it isn't facing the beach or anything. We went here for Christmas breakfast, and it definitely did not disappoint. Even though the restaurant was pretty busy and we didn't have a reservation, the wait staff was able to accomodate us. There is both indoor seating, bar seating, and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating wasn't too bad seeing as they had heaters outside. It's also a great people watching view at the corner of Myers Street and Mission Avenue. The waiter was very nice and always checked in on us to see if we needed water refills or sauces. Food was okay. The Lobster Omelet had more lobster than I originally assumed. The steak was a bit fattier than I liked. Eggs were perfectly made over easy. The potatoes was cooked to perfection. Piper changed its breakfast menu significantly by removing most of the items that had been on it in favor of a $55/ person buffet. What's left are a few à la carte selections that were more expensive and not prepared as well as they were when we went previously, which was a couple years ago. What's super annoying is that the menu change still isn't reflected online, so we had no idea until we sat down. The avocado toast was burnt, potatoes were flavorless and unevenly cooked, and the "poached" eggs were hard in the middle. Prices are higher, service is slow, and overall it just feels like a place that exists now purely to gouge tourists in Oceanside. We won't be going back. read more

We always try to do at least one fancy meal whenever we visit my family down south since we don't usually get to see each other very often. This time we decided on this place as it had good reviews and my sister also had been wanting to try it! I made a reservation in advance since we're a large party, and generally you can easily assume the seating would be inside (unless they offer outdoor seating specifically and/or if you request). However, when we arrived, they somehow had wanted to seat us outside without even asking. We're NOT outdoor dining people, so we immediately requested to be placed inside since I saw one LAST table space that could accommodate our large party. They didn't seem receptive to the request initially and made us wait (and even tried to convince us again to sit outside). We refused so they eventually did end up setting it up for us. We ordered a variety of items to share family style and got a couple of kids meal items for our 2 kids. I was very sad to find out that they do not offer complimentary house bread, so we had to order bread separately for an added cost. The service was spotty at best since our server was responsible for quite a few number of tables (about half the restaurant). It was difficult to flag him down throughout the service, but we tried to make do. He also made a few blunders during the meal so he ended up sending a couple of desserts on the house at the end to make up for it. Piper's a la carte menu is really small (5 items in total), and you can tell by the pricing that they try to steer you towards the buffet (ex: $24 avocado toast is one of the 5 items). We got the 2 eggs plate, which came with some house potatoes and choice of meat, for which we selected sausage. The sausage was really dense, salty, and small. Service was friendly for the most part. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was frustrating enough that I felt it was necessary. We ordered a slice of cake, and our waiter told us it would only take about 5 minutes. That seemed reasonable, so I waited near the counter. About 28 minutes later, I watched the staff place my order on the counter, yet no one bothered to hand it to me or even acknowledge that I had been standing there waiting the entire time. Not only did it take over five times longer than what we were told, but the lack of attention and basic customer service made the experience even worse. A simple "Your order is ready" or handing me the plate while I was standing right there would have taken seconds. Waiting nearly half an hour for a single slice of cake--after being told it would be 5 minutes--is unacceptable. The poor communication and complete disregard for customers left a terrible impression. I won't be coming back, and I definitely can't recommend this restaurant based on the service we received. read more

It mainly missed the ball in 2 ways: 1) The staff are so friendly, but service overall is slow and food is not even close to being worth what they charged. 2) They're connected to 2 WORLD CLASS resorts that provide an extraordinary experience. For this place to fall below expectations in such an epic way was extremely disappointing. The excellence of the people skills of the staff brought this review from a 1 star to 2. The biggest issue? We bought a $100 20oz ribeye. Coming from Vegas, that's a justified price for a delicious steak. That's why we ordered it. What we got was a steak that tasted like it was cooked the day before and then microwaved before serving to us. Even after the remake. I would rather take a $14 steak from Costco that my wife cooks herself. Also what was mind blowing was how slooooooow the service was. I understand if food takes a while to come out, but a wine and cocktail took 30 minutes. We stayed at Mission Pacific Beach Resort (which was amazing) and Chase gave us food credit, so we decided to use the credit on Piper... big miss-steak. Staying at Seabird now. Ate dinner at Piper last night and breakfast this morning. At dinner, the halibut was overcooked and dry and despite sauces, was mostly tasteless. The $18 waffle at breakfast was partially burned. The prices are outrageous and the flavors are minimal. Don't judge by the crowd, it's a captive audience from the hotel. If you must eat at the hotel and want more bang for the buck, eat an early dinner at the Shelter Club, which closes at 6:30. Highly recommend you eat outside of the hotel though, even Uber Eats (try Taco Stand). The food at the Thursday night "festival" with cuisines ranging from Egyptian to Filipino is wonderful (albeit super crowded with no place to sit) . read more
