This sharp-looking restaurant and bar is located inside a very sharp-looking hotel (Cape Rey). They have valet parking OR you can park directly across the street from the hotel in the large parking structure. (Apparently, you can get your parking ticket validated at the restaurant but during our visit, the gates were all up so no ticket, no pay.) You can sit inside the very large restaurant or at the bar or on the west-facing sunset terrace. Outside on the terrace, there are gorgeous views of the ocean. For those non-imbibers, they offer three nice mocktails. They also offer special cocktails and a full bar, of course. The special cocktails looked interesting enough but the alcoholic in me went with a regular martini and it was what I wanted/needed. The food was good. We ordered the sourdough "boule" ("ball" in French) and you get a very good-sized, hearty, delicious, and freshly-cooked sourdough loaf with an absolutely wonderful pesto sauce and truffle butter. This is a heavier appetizer than you might think so order accordingly. We also tried the Bluefin Tuna Poke Tostados and enjoyed it. It comes with three decent-sized tostados. Before we ordered, we asked our server if we could offer off the bar menu (because the website specifically says you can do so), and were told no. Interestingly, the table next to us, with a different server, ordered several items off the bar menu. The bar menu has some really good items on it but we were shot down. This was disappointing. Worth a visit, especially for the nice terrace. read more

When you arrive you have to valet - $12, so not bad, but no self-parking options. The hotel lobby is lovely. We sat at the bar til our table was ready. I had a draft pilsner, and my husband had a key lime martini which was delicious! Neither too sweet or too tart. We were seated inside in a booth by a window with a gorgeous view of the Pacific. They also have a lovely patio, but we opted for inside due to the heat. Our server, Micheline, immediately made us feel comfortable with great recommendations. The starters came out faster than we expected and were excellent. The mushroom dip was not what we expected. It was thick & rich with a little heat. Very yummy! It was served with fried bread that made a great vehicle for sopping it up. We got one wedge salad (which they split for us). Very fresh, crisp veggies. Generous servings of cheese & bacon. My hubby who does not normally like ranch dressing enjoyed it as much as I did. Our entrees came out quickly as well. I got the sea bass. It was cooked perfectly. The sauce was rich & had a kick. My husband raved about his cioppino as some of the best he's had. Throughout the meal, Micheline was attentive without hovering, joked with us, and made us feel truly welcome. She raised an already outstanding meal to new heights. We didn't have room for dessert, so we'll have to visit again to try out the sweets. The entire experience from the bar to the final check was phenomenal. We will be back and will recommend it to all our friends. read more

Wow, have you ever been to Chandler's, located inside the Cape Rey Carlsbad Beach (a Hilton resort)? If not, you gotta GO!!! It's an amazing oceanfront restaurant across from South Carlsbad State Beach. Best ceviche we've ever had! The sourdough bread is to die for! Our entrées which were salmon and Chilean Seabass were cooked to mouth-watering perfection! Of course the views were insane! To top it off our waitress, JILL was thoroughly delightful! Happy and knowledgeable and so much fun... She clearly loves her job! She was so attentive to us, we felt like we were the only diners there. :-) And she really knows her stuff! Pretty hilarious when we found out that my name is JILL, too, as we rarely meet many JILLs. We hit it off famously! Not only because the food was outstanding, and plated beautifully, but because of JILL we are definitely going back! And if you go----I mean WHEN go---you ask for her! read more

Overall the food was good and the service was friendly and prompt. We were there for a business meal and enjoyed all the different appetizers, many cocktails and wine. Most of the group enjoyed their dinners and our only disappointment was in the bluefin tuna which was surprising overcooked for three of us. We each ordered and expected a proper medium rare preparation and all of ours were cooked more to a gray vs vibrant pink. The flavors in the dish were fantastic but would have appreciated a better treatment of the fish. I hope to travel back and try again while the sun is up to enjoy the ocean views and give them another chance. read more

Delicious breakfast! I ordered the croissant breakfast sandwich and WOW, so good! They don't open until 7am, which for me wasn't ideal, but we were seated promptly. Our server was so sweet and did a great job. My only hangup was that we were a little pressed for time so assumed getting in there first we would be able to get in and out for quickly, but it was still a 45 minute breakfast from start to finish. The menu, service and location are second to none though. A must check out! read more

I was looking for a restaurant for brunch in Carlsbad with a view of the ocean since we were staying in Carlsbad for our anniversary. Chandlers did not disappoint. We sat on the patio and had a gorgeous view. Our server was great and the food was delicious. We started with a yummy bloody mary. My husband had the poke bowl and I had the one of a kind crab cake benedict. I'm still thinking about it...see pics. read more

Chandler's Oceanfront Dining came up in my Yelp search for a dog-friendly lunch spot in Carlsbad with a nice view. There was just one problem: a really bad review from seven years ago. And who wrote that cranky review? Me. Still, seven years is a long time, and they have a beautiful patio with a great ocean view, so I decided to give it another try. I'm glad I did. Service may have been painfully slow on my last visit, but this time our service was provided by Nathan and Eric, who were excellent. We ordered: * Chuck Brisket Cheeseburger (medium rare) - Smoked cheddar, beefsteak tomato, shredded iceberg lettuce, grilled onions, chipotle aioli. With French Fries. $25 * Baby Wedge Salad - Smoked Nueske bacon, heirloom tomatoes, blue cheese crumble, house ranch, Everything Bagel sprinkles, house ranch dressing, fresh dill. $17 * Iced Tea. $4 Our food arrived in about 15 minutes. The cheeseburger was cooked perfectly medium rare, and the fries were piping hot and tasty. The Baby Wedge Salad was good, though the dressing and blue cheese crumble were mild, so it didn't deliver the bold blue cheese flavor I expect from a great wedge salad. And our dog liked and appreciated the bowl of water she was served! A solid four stars for this visit. read more

Amazing birthday dinner! Delicious drinks, beautiful ambience with an ocean view, and great service. The macadamia nut crusted calamari was fresh and flavorful, excellent filet mignon, and the stand out for me was the clam chowder. The bacon took it to the next level! Chandler's is exactly what oceanfront fine dining should be. We timed our reservation for sunset and the view did not disappoint -- a direct, unobstructed look at the ocean with the sky lighting up in orange and pink right over the water. The steak was cooked perfectly, tender and full of flavor, easily one of the best I've had in the area. Pair that with the incredible view & prompt service, and it makes for an unforgettable dinner. Highly recommend requesting a table by the window if you can! read more

Chandler's Oceanfront Dining is such a beautiful restaurant conjoined with Hilton's Cape Rey Carlsbad Beach Resort! This award-winning establishment features California Coastal Cuisine with menus that continue to evolve with innovation and craft. Stunning Pacific Ocean views are all around coupled with very professional, top-shelf service. Everyone we encountered were so genuine, thoughtful, and friendly. They really did a great job recognizing my recent birthday in an elegant and dignified fashion. We stayed at the resort for a couple of nights and the standout for me was their outdoor seating and firepits. The vibe is decidedly comfortable and welcoming. Their bar features an impressive menu of craft cocktails that we enjoyed. Particularly the "Cocoa Trace". For brunch I ordered the Chef's Omelet. When it was served, I noticed the eggs were more brown than yellow, but the delicious array of fillings made up for that. Particularly the generous amount of smoked ham and baby peppers. My wife ordered the Classic Benedict. Unfortunately, the whites were quite loose and far from set. The staff were very accommodating in a quick replacement with a croissant breakfast sandwich that was very tasty. I would not hesitate to dine here again, although your mileage may vary with the eggs... read more

So this is a place we highly recommend. We have been many times and for many occasions and from the food to the service and the atmosphere it for sure checks the boxes. We have always had great food and service, plus the atmosphere is relaxing and either sitting inside or outside you get a great relaxed environment. Great choice for any reason. read more

What a beautiful place to enjoy lunch! The three of us sat and looked out into the beautiful ocean. We had amazing customer service. The food was delicious and very fresh. The prices were reasonable. They even give you two hours of free self parking if you are not a hotel guest. It was just such a quiet and safe and peaceful experience. Next time I come back I will definitely stay at this hotel. read more

Alright, so I'd heard great things about this place. I was staying on the resort side with friends and was directed here for coffee and breakfast. When I arrived, the host at the front was incredibly sweet. When I mentioned that my order was to-go, she kindly guided me to the bar area to place it. It was 10:50 a.m. when I got there, and by the time the guests ahead of me had ordered, it was around 11:04 a.m. Unfortunately, the bartender taking orders seemed very frustrated. I ordered an oat milk latte and three different pastries (which were honestly superb), but the interaction felt quite uncomfortable. He mentioned several times that no one had come in all morning and that just as he was cleaning up and getting ready to finish, people started showing up. I completely understand that it can be frustrating when customers arrive right as you're expecting to wrap up your shift. However, repeatedly venting that frustration to guests made for an awkward experience. I felt so uncomfortable that I almost cancelled my order altogether. Admittedly, I hadn't had my caffeine yet, so maybe I was feeling it more than usual! That said, the pastries were excellent, the coffee was good, and the host made a wonderful first impression. Overall, it was a mixed experience - great food and drinks, but the service at the bar was not something that begs repeating so I don't know if I'd go back again. read more

We have dined at this restaurant several times over two stays at Cape Rey Resort. The breakfast/brunch/lunch menu is extensive and is great. The dinner menu is more limited though. The service is great. For example, our latest server was from Bolivia (we forget his name and are sorry!) and he was so kind to our daughter who was celebrating a birthday. The location, with views of the Pacific, is perfect. read more

While staying at the hotel, we had breakfast here and it did not disappoint. We had the crab cake Benedict and the smoked salmon and egg pizza. Both were good but we really loved the pizza! It was my wife's birthday and our server Janai brought us a desert with a candle. She was awesome and helped us with everything we needed. Great attitude as well. Behind the bar was Kyle and he made a great ice sea salt coffee drink for me and came by and talked to us for a little. Great food, nice ambiance and awesome customer service! read more

The one star is for the host & supervisor. Here is my review: Went to Chandler's after our lovely experience at the Cape Rey Spa. We were on a high and things were great when the host sat us and helped us get our table cleaned. The moment our server came up to us (an older lady with grey hair and bangs) she was very blunt and said straight away "you getting drinks?" No greetings, no friendliness or hospitality. That didn't bother us at all. So when my boyfriend asked what the drafts were, she was listing them all while looking away and the last one looked dead in my boyfriends eyes (he's Mexican) and said "oh and Modelo" So my boyfriend got a Lager and I got a butterfly margarita. Took us 25 minutes to get our drinks. We put in our order in and while we were ordering.. my bf asked what was better between the ahi and sandwich.. he ended up choosing the ahi and she's like "don't worry, she'll help you eat it" (about ME). She wasn't even joking or laughing or trying to be friendly, just straight up rude. So after we're just chilling and drinking our drinks. Having a good time. Until an hour passes by and still no food. The server came by and refilled our waters and I looked noticeably upset and she said "lunch is coming guys."In a rude, condescending way... (Meanwhile the table behind us came in 20-30 minutes after us and got their food right away and we're already finishing up.) During that same interaction, my boyfriend ordered another lager and she brings him a Modelo 15 minutes later!! I went to find another server to check on our food. The supervisor approached us and said she's very sorry and the food is coming out shortly. Meaning our server probably never put our food in!!! We waited for 10 more minutes and I went in and asked for our food to go because we wanted to spend time at the pool instead of the restaurant. The supervisor was nice and bagged it up and told us our food was comped, but man.. that server was not it. Ruined our whole experience at this hotel. read more

Just downgraded my review from a 5 to a 3 after going back. Live music WAY too loud. Im driving home and still can't hear myself think. Dinner sucked even after he stopped playing because my hearing was blown out like a rock concert. My uncle was in from out of town and no one at the table could hear each other speaking. We asked to have it turned down and almost no effort was made to accommodate. Just a terrible experience that flipped one of my previously favorite places into- meh. read more

I'm disappointed to leave this review. I live five minutes away and have been to Chandler's numerous times and often during holidays when they serve special buffets. Today is Mother's Day, and my husband, one year old, and I had reservations for Mother's Day brunch at 8:45am. Mornings don't always go as planned with toddlers, so we arrived at 9am. The young hostess was very rude and let us know they can't seat us as the next wave of the brunch buffet is starting at 10:30am and that they're setting up for it. I pleaded and asked if we could eat really quickly and be in and out of there in 30 min. They harshly said no and were not understanding at all. I was pretty bummed they couldn't accommodate us, especially on Mother's Day when they could clearly see I was holding my toddler and we just wanted to get him fed. Unfortunately, due to their lack of customer service, we will not be retuning. I guess there's a reason no locals come and only hotel guests eat here. Very different vibe in customer service than the Alila Marea down the street which I would highly recommend instead for better service, views, and food. You guys lost some once-loyal, local customers! read more

We stayed at the Cape Rey for Labor Day weekend and enjoyed brunch both Saturday and Sunday. The brunch menu had a good selection of both breakfast and lunch items. Good afternoon. I am organizing a group get together and wondering if this place is good for very large parties and events? Also if certain people have allergies like dairy or specific foods in my group if we attend afternoon lunches can you accommodate their needs for their health? Do you also hold Happy Hour, people visiting that sing in your resturaunt or guitar players? reply to my comment so I can start organizing my get togethers with my groups and hope to go to your place during the near future especially during the summertime. It looks wonderful to see the sunset views with a meal and a nice special drink. Joanne Oceanside resident read more

1st thing, we were not told about the Pre Fixe Menu, and though we realize it was normal for a restaurant to have one on a pre holiday meal ( Christmas Eve) it would have been appreciated to know before. 2nd the hostess attempted to seat us outside on the patio saying, "you will be next to the portable heater." Inside tables appeared to be available and so we asked to be seated there, as we had made advance reservations and not mere walk-ins. 1st Course: Amuse Bouche, baby scallops on a Mache Salad 2nd Course: Fresh Poached Pear on Spinach leaf Salad with Golden Raisins, Spiced Pumpkin Seeds, and Champagne Vinaigrette Main: Peking Duck over Celery Root Purée, Glazed Heirloom Carrots, Blueberry Demi Desert: Yule Log with Chocolate Genoise, Chantilly Cream, with Wild Berry Sauce The food was good, except for way under cooked baby carrots. Duck was okay, sliced a bit thick. The stars were the Celery Root Purée and Blueberry Demi and the Desert! Our server Amanda was pleasant and responsive to our requests. We would recommend this restaurant. read more

Came in for brunch with a friend and his wife Sunday 7/20/25 and ended up having one of the better dining experiences I've had in North County. The view speaks for itself -- coastal, clean, and laid-back without trying too hard. The food? Solid across the board. They ordered the tuna poke bowl -- fresh, flavorful, and gone fast. I had the lobster hash, which hit every note I was hoping for. My buddy and I also split the burger just to try it, and we both agreed it was legit. Well-executed, fresh, and plated right. But what really stood out was the service. Amanda was our waitress and honestly, she brought a level of warmth, attention, and ease that you rarely see. Friendly without being fake, sharp without hovering -- just genuinely good at what she does. Super cool chick. The kind of energy that makes you want to come back. Highly recommend this spot if you want a relaxed, well-run place to enjoy the coast. read more

I don't know if this restaurant is under new management but a few months ago when I ordered breakfast French toast for my kids it would at least come with a few berries toppings however on today's visit, the dish was literally just a French toast. It was blah. There was no pizzazz or any form of attempt to make the dish appetizing. For $9, I expected a little more effort despite being a kids dish. We also ordered chocolate milk for the kids and it was terrible. They definitely used a powder packet and I think they didn't even attempt to fully mix the powder before serving it. It's best to order out and have it delivered to the hotel or venture out. read more
