Chandler's Oceanfront Dining came up in my Yelp search for a dog-friendly lunch spot in Carlsbad with a nice view. There was just one problem: a really bad review from seven years ago. And who wrote that cranky review? Me. Still, seven years is a long time, and they have a beautiful patio with a great ocean view, so I decided to give it another try. I'm glad I did. Service may have been painfully slow on my last visit, but this time our service was provided by Nathan and Eric, who were excellent. We ordered: * Chuck Brisket Cheeseburger (medium rare) - Smoked cheddar, beefsteak tomato, shredded iceberg lettuce, grilled onions, chipotle aioli. With French Fries. $25 * Baby Wedge Salad - Smoked Nueske bacon, heirloom tomatoes, blue cheese crumble, house ranch, Everything Bagel sprinkles, house ranch dressing, fresh dill. $17 * Iced Tea. $4 Our food arrived in about 15 minutes. The cheeseburger was cooked perfectly medium rare, and the fries were piping hot and tasty. The Baby Wedge Salad was good, though the dressing and blue cheese crumble were mild, so it didn't deliver the bold blue cheese flavor I expect from a great wedge salad. And our dog liked and appreciated the bowl of water she was served! A solid four stars for this visit.

Chandler's Oceanfront Dining is such a beautiful restaurant conjoined with Hilton's Cape Rey Carlsbad Beach Resort! This award-winning establishment features California Coastal Cuisine with menus that continue to evolve with innovation and craft. Stunning Pacific Ocean views are all around coupled with very professional, top-shelf service. Everyone we encountered were so genuine, thoughtful, and friendly. They really did a great job recognizing my recent birthday in an elegant and dignified fashion. We stayed at the resort for a couple of nights and the standout for me was their outdoor seating and firepits. The vibe is decidedly comfortable and welcoming. Their bar features an impressive menu of craft cocktails that we enjoyed. Particularly the "Cocoa Trace". For brunch I ordered the Chef's Omelet. When it was served, I noticed the eggs were more brown than yellow, but the delicious array of fillings made up for that. Particularly the generous amount of smoked ham and baby peppers. My wife ordered the Classic Benedict. Unfortunately, the whites were quite loose and far from set. The staff were very accommodating in a quick replacement with a croissant breakfast sandwich that was very tasty. I would not hesitate to dine here again, although your mileage may vary with the eggs...

While staying at the hotel, we had breakfast here and it did not disappoint. We had the crab cake Benedict and the smoked salmon and egg pizza. Both were good but we really loved the pizza! It was my wife's birthday and our server Janai brought us a desert with a candle. She was awesome and helped us with everything we needed. Great attitude as well. Behind the bar was Kyle and he made a great ice sea salt coffee drink for me and came by and talked to us for a little. Great food, nice ambiance and awesome customer service!

Menu as of May 22, 2025 Note the abundance of non standard American diet Starch. Sweet potato, taro, plantain.

Just downgraded my review from a 5 to a 3 after going back. Live music WAY too loud. Im driving home and still can't hear myself think. Dinner sucked even after he stopped playing because my hearing was blown out like a rock concert. My uncle was in from out of town and no one at the table could hear each other speaking. We asked to have it turned down and almost no effort was made to accommodate. Just a terrible experience that flipped one of my previously favorite places into- meh.

Wonderful ambiance, excellent food and drink and friendly staff. Could not have asked for more on a Wednesday. The decor is both country, classy and seaside oriented depending on where you sit. Heated outdoor spaces and warm open indoor seating. Loved the short ribs and basque cheesecake. Highly recommended.

Great outdoor seating with views of the pool and ocean, plenty of heaters and umbrellas if needed. Always welcoming staff that can offer suggestions on drinks or menu items. The last visit we had a couple of local beers on tap and some light happy hour appetizers. It is a great place for sunset watching.

I didn't eat here, but I did have a Paloma and it was delicious! I'm a suckered for a tajin rim! Service was amazing, fast, and friendly. Ambiance was great. We sat outside on the patio with the bonfire and watching college sports basketball and the sunset

This review is specific to the restaurant located at the Cape Rey hotel - and just like the hotel, this restaurant was amazing! Breakfast was had at their outdoor seating area since the weather was perfect during my stay. This section faces the ocean, so it was nice to have breakfast with the view. The breakfast tacos were delish! Service was very prompt and coffee was refilled! Also, enjoyed dinner in the outside area between the restaurant and pool - once again, service was very prompt and everything was delicious!

1st thing, we were not told about the Pre Fixe Menu, and though we realize it was normal for a restaurant to have one on a pre holiday meal ( Christmas Eve) it would have been appreciated to know before. 2nd the hostess attempted to seat us outside on the patio saying, "you will be next to the portable heater." Inside tables appeared to be available and so we asked to be seated there, as we had made advance reservations and not mere walk-ins. 1st Course: Amuse Bouche, baby scallops on a Mache Salad 2nd Course: Fresh Poached Pear on Spinach leaf Salad with Golden Raisins, Spiced Pumpkin Seeds, and Champagne Vinaigrette Main: Peking Duck over Celery Root Purée, Glazed Heirloom Carrots, Blueberry Demi Desert: Yule Log with Chocolate Genoise, Chantilly Cream, with Wild Berry Sauce The food was good, except for way under cooked baby carrots. Duck was okay, sliced a bit thick. The stars were the Celery Root Purée and Blueberry Demi and the Desert! Our server Amanda was pleasant and responsive to our requests. We would recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely wonderful and accommodating wait staff. Delicious salads, relishes soup and a wonderful view. The bloody Mary's went down smoothly and I would recommend them! You can watch the sunset and it is so peaceful. If you are not a hotel guest you do have to pay for parking.

I came here for brunch last Sunday with a group of friends and it was a disaster! There were 10 of us, and the wait staff seemed overwhelmed by the size of our party. Each of us took our turn ordering, and the server went down the row in either side of the table (we didn't jump around). Food took forever to arrive, and when it was finally delivered to our table, our orders got mixed up, delivered to the wrong person. Many of us got each other's order by mistake. I ordered the crab cakes benedict with a side salad. I requested salad dressing on the side so I could control the amount of dressing. Sadly, I had the following issues with my dish: 1. The eggs were not poached correctly. They were a soft boil instead of having a runny yolk. 2. The 2 tiny crab cakes were inconsistently seasoned. Both were dry (over fried), but one was flavorless while the other was extremely salty. 3. I received no dressing for my salad. The mixed greens were also wilted and not fresh. 4. My dish was missing chives on top of the eggs (everyone else had chives on theirs). 5. The crab cakes were cold. Four of us ordered the crab cakes benedict and all 4 of us had issues with our dish. When we mentioned the eggs to the manager, she replaced the soft boiled eggs with the properly poached eggs, but they were delivered to us in a bowl with water. It would have been nice if they had drained the eggs. We appreciated the replacement though. We mentioned the inconsistent crab cakes, but there was no offer to fix them. For the ladies who did not order crab cakes, they also had problems with their dish. The lobster hash was cold. The French toast with a side of bacon was missing the bacon and the small maple syrup jar was nearly empty, there was barely enough. A carafe of coffee was delivered to the table, but there was a delay in bringing the creamer and sugar. The coffee was cold by the time the creamer and sugar arrived at the table. There was a delay in bringing out more hot coffee. Empty water glasses were never replenished. Overall, we received very poor service. Our main server was extremely rude. We had the impression that because we were a large party, the 20% gratuity was a guarantee and already included in our tab so the server simply did not care. She threw the bill on our table, rolled her eyes, and walked off. Well guess what?!?! I had the 20% gratuity removed. Large party or not, we're not paying 20% gratuity for crappy service! Here's a tip: Don't show up to work with an attitude if you expect good tip. Nothing is guaranteed. The food was bad and the service was even worse. It's such a shame, because the restaurant was beautiful and had a beautiful view of the beach. There is a parking garage that offers free parking for the first 2 hours, but if you dine at the restaurant, your parking ticket can be validated. Well they didn't validate our tickets. With all of the delays and endless waiting, we were at the restaurant for 3.5 hours! Instead of validating our tickets, they told us to hit the "help" button and someone at the front desk will open the gate. We pushed the button at least 10 times before they opened the gate. This was a dining nightmare! I expected more from what appeared to be a fine establishment.

FOOD: - hot potatoes: has a pickled radish and some sort of crème sauce that was so good - these were my husband's favorite. - chicken satay: It came with pickled cucumber (think when it's cucumber kimchi, but it wasn't a kimchi type of marinade). The peanut sauce had a little spice (if you don't have any spice tolerance I would avoid the sauce, but it was sooo good). This was my favorite. - khao soi curry (has egg noodles) and that was delicious. We added the brisket to it which was a good add. My husband ate his so fast and I had to make him not take any more so we could have leftovers! DRINKS: - we got complimentary champagne for our anniversary which was so so sweet of them and made our night! The champagne itself was actually one of the best champagnes I have had. It had a nice sweetness to it. - my husband had the thai lager, which he said was okay. It tasted like most lagers he's had. - we shared the tangerine you are my sex machine as it sounded interesting and i do have to say this was the only thing we weren't big fans of. it was very smokey, but my husband put "old boat motor" in my head and that's all we could taste. if you love smokey drinks this would be for you. - I had a house cocktail that I cannot remember the name of for the life of me, but it was sweet, peachy (I think) and had champagne in it from what I remember. It was so good and would get it again! The vibe inside the restaurant was cool and there are over 30 tigers (our server counted for us, but she said she couldn't even find them all). The bathrooms were cute and very clean. 10/10 recommend. The check even came in a romance novel!

I think everything really complimented each other well from the music to the art to the menu, it was great! Our server was nice as we were indecisive with even such a small menu, we had a hard time. The drinks were good and strong, unique and creative. Which I guess when you're going out and want to stay on theme, it works. We had the coconut broth hamachi which was so lip-smackingly addictive with those wonton chips! I would come back just for that dish! The chicken satay skewers were also delicious and the sauce that came with it was a good mix of sweet, savory, spicy and salty. I do think from there it was kind of just okay? I got the half fried chicken which smelled a fish sauce glaze and that's what I went in expecting but there was no punch of that fish sauce flavor you know? It needed a bit more pop. BF got the pork belly banh mi bowl which I guess in theory why would you get that at a Thai place? But the pork belly was hard and firm, not as you'd expect it to be which was dissapointing. Our friends got the Khao Soi which was delicious I do have to say and the Panang with Brisket. I think it was cool to try but im just stuck in my ways and prefer the ole mom and pop down the road with more options. But its fun for a night out!

The heaters outside are very strong. They have live music on Friday/Saturday in the evening. Food/Drinks They bring you complimentary green olives with a nut. I have had marcona almonds before and this time it was soybeans. The drinks were fine, pretty expensive for a cocktail at $20+. The food is also okay. We had the Local Assorted Cured Meat and it was good! I loved the bread that came with it. The Crispy Spam Musubi was also interesting, it was like a fried rice ball (like arrencini) but with an asian flair. Overall I would not recommend you come here unless you are staying at the hotel, but the views are pretty good.

I sat at the bar for dinner one night when I was staying there. The seating areas to the side of…read morethe bar and the patio have beautiful views, but it was a chilly night so I just stayed at the bar. I just got a burger and a glass of wine, so nothing special, but the food and service were good. I was disappointed that you couldn't get food from the dining room at the bar.
