Came back for dinner, we both ordered the Halibut Fish n Chips, the portion was huge and the halibut tasted great! Halibut for for only $20 bucks? Great deal! The waffle fries could have been a little bit hotter, but still tasted good. The fruit bowl was very fresh and tasty too. Both the morning and evening staff was very nice and friendly. It breaks my heart to write this review. We have been coming to Tin Fish for years, considering it a special treat. The menu was diverse enough that we wouldn't get tired of it, as we could get fish tacos, grilled or fried shrimp, grilled or fried fish, fish and chips, fish and shrimp and chips, salads with fish or shrimp etc. etc. etc. There was also the option to get half-plates, which had half the number of shrimps or fewer pieces of fish. It was great. Then recently, the menu changed, and many of our favorite options were gone. No more half-plates, no more salads, no more fish/shrimp combos. The fish tacos were slightly different, and the prices had gone up (it was already somewhat pricey). We decided to keep this place on our list, even with these facts in mind. Today we saw that the menu has changed AGAIN, and is even smaller, and the prices went up again. It seems that the focus is now on shakes, acai, and desserts, with food being almost an afterthought. The food was good, but we couldn't order what we wanted because it is no longer an option. It just isn't worth the price, and the service was not as good as in the past. Their drink machine wasn't working, which we should have been told before ordering. Another one of our favorite restaurants of many years is now off the list. Again, I am very sad about this. The line is fast-moving but actually getting my order was a bit of a wait (this is at 12:00 on a Friday, so understandable). Thr food smacks hard, everything is delicious and so flavorful. Hands down one of the best fish tacos I've had in a while, and the waffle fries were a welcome surprise. I normally skip coleslaw at fish n chips places, but the slaw here is mayo-free and super refreshing after all the fried food. Portion sizes were pretty decent for the price point, too. I've been going to Tin Fish about once a month for 5 years. They have changed their menu and I'm not happy about it. They no longer have halibut. They no longer have single filets. They changed their coleslaw! It was a really unique vinegar slaw and now it is just the normal type you can get everywhere. And their online ordering doesn't work anymore so you have to go stand in line to order and then wait. I live down the street - I always do take out. At least the waffle fries taste the same. I'll still eat there and I do recommend the grilled fish and tacos. But I'm sure there are other miffed locals. read more

I ordered a calamari appetizer to try along with a soda. My soda was given to me right away but my calamari was never received. Their staff is extremely unorganized. After about an hour and seeing multiple people in front of me with large orders going out I asked about my order and was told ten minutes. After 20 minutes asked the worker for a refund and she told me it would be a dollar? Ordered the fish and chips the fish is very fresh.. it has like a Cajun spice not hot just tasty the fries also have a sprinkle of the spice. The coleslaw was very tasty in all everything we had tasted great. The people that work there are super nice and kept the line moving you order your food and they call when it's done maybe 15 minutes. We have been to this place several times and it's something you will crave every while. We live in OC but when we know we are getting near the ocean side its the time for a fish sandwich. Their fish can be fried or grilled and I tried both and totally delicious. They have many fish choices and shrimp besides dessert and drinks. You do have to add chips as it only comes with coleslaw. Conveniently located on beach level before crossing the pier, this delicious fried feast brought us life after a day of water and sun. Generous portions and crisp, tasty seafood, Tin Fish may now be a staple stop for us during our visits to Oceanside Beach moving forward. Tin Fish is a walk up, quick service establishment on the beach level of Oceanside Beach. There isn't a designated parking place to conveniently access Tin Fish, so drivers are at the mercy of paid lots within the radius of that area of the beach or street parking. Customers order and pay at the window of Tin Fish, then when their food is ready, your order/name is announced to signal its time to retrieve your meal. There are a modest amount of tables in front of the establishment for patrons who'd like a place to chow down (sand free), but the tables could get filled during busy points of the day/week, so be prepared to possibly take your order on the go. Service was friendly and very helpful. Food also came out fairly quickly, demonstrating the kitchen staff worked efficiently to move through orders without sacrificing quality or taste. Our order consisted of a Tin Fish Combo and a custom order of a Fried Shrimp Po Boy Sandwich. Both were great! The Tin Fish combo had a good size seafood pieces, all fried crisp to perfection and the Shrimp Po Boy was stuffed with shrimp with excellent flavoring for the dressing. Their slaw was also really good. The lime that's atop the slaw is there intentionally! Be sure to put some on the slaw and enjoy with your meal. You won't be disappointed.
