    An outstanding classic dining experience--the true essence of "old school" Italian with rich red sauce heritage dating back to 1900. We enjoyed a wonderful evening in a bustling, lively atmosphere where reservations are definitely essential. The staff, dressed in their traditional uniforms, were both attentive and friendly, and our food arrived promptly. We shared appetizers of antipasto and fresh mozzarella with tomatoes, followed by delicious entrees including veal marsala, lasagna, vodka rigatoni, and shrimp scampi. Each dish was flavorful and perfectly portioned. We were too full for dessert! Including cocktails, wine, and tip, the total came to $280. It's hard to find such a quality meal for four in NYC at this price point. Highly recommended!

    If you're expecting the modern Italian renaissance food NYC seems to be having lately, this place is not it. It's a very classical institution and the food tastes like what you'd expect Italian food in 90's America to taste like. You'll get all the American Italian classics, from spaghetti and meatballs, to chicken parmesan, and all the different types of pastas. As expected, portion sizes are large, and for what the food is, I personally think it tastes delicious, as long as you hold the expectation that it is 90's American Italian food. It's well done, tastes good, even if it's not the most innovative food in the world. And everyone was nice, and hospitable.

    Bamonte's is a classic. I usually call a few days ahead to make a reservation because it gets packed in here after 6pm on a weekend. The service is quick and efficient. The food is reliable. They have some of the best rigatoni alla vodka - the sauce is perfection. We had chocolate mousse and lemon sorbet for dessert. The sorbet is served in an actual lemon. We tried arancini here the other day and it was also very good. It did have meat in it which I wasn't aware of, until I bit into it. I'm a vegetarian so I just picked out the meat.... I've come in here and witnessed the Williamsburg nouveau riche trying to make substitutions and ask about "gluten free" stuff and honestly, they just sound stupid. Some adjustments are reasonable and can be accommodated. But the new Williamsburg set really need to understand the context of where they are. This isn't a hipster restaurant. This is a 125 year old institution, if they don't have your gluten free non GMO grass fed whatever, it isn't the end of the world. Bamonte's was here long before Bedford Ave was spilling out with tourists and hipsters. They don't need to cater to certain demographics. If you come here, respect the history and the context in which this restaurant still exists. Prices are average for NYC white cloth Italian. (Probably still cheaper than the Times Square Italian tourist spots). I'm glad Bamonte's still exists. Many red sauce places have shut down over the years, so I hope the family will continue to keep the operation going.

    Oldschool Italian place. Food was very fresh and impressive for price. The all men wait staff had very clean suits on. Very professional and respectful. All great at what they do. We came for Ash Wednesday and what a treat. The pastor was there, the bamonte family , and many other local favorites. Will be back

    Ambiance is 5/5 but honestly, I was disappointed with the food. None of the dishes were anything special and felt like something I could make at home. The best thing we ordered was the pesto gnocchi where the gnocchi was soft and pillowy and the pesto sauce was creamy. I was super disappointed in rigatoni vodka and fusilli bolognese - the sauce was watery and not flavorful. The chicken Marsala, veal special and eggplant parm were just fine. I was also shocked at how small the portions were, especially for the price.

    Old school Italian restaurant with a legacy that spans since 1900. You read that right--125 years old. Highly recommend reservations. Upon our first attempt to dine here back in December (without reservations), their only availability when we walked in was for 9:30 PM. We headed to another restaurant. This time being a first, we secured reservations in advance and were seated immediately upon arrival. The large, dining area was jam packed and I felt somewhat rushed during our visit. We started with wine. Sauvignon Blanc and a Rose for me. A request to sample the Rose was initially met with hesitation but the server then brought a sample and it was met with approval. Delicious. We enjoyed the decor in its old world, panel charm adorned with chandeliers. The bar, at the entrance of the restaurant was busy--those enjoying drinks and possibly waiting for a table. Here's what we ordered: *Fried Calamari. A staple at most, if not all Italian restaurants, we just had to try it. Glad we did because it was excellent. A generous portion with ringlets of Calamari perfectly cooked (not oily at all) and accompanied by a delicious side of chunky Marinara sauce. *Arugula, Radicchio and Endive salad. Simple but refreshing and offered a nice balance to the fried Calamari. All entrees come with side vegetables (green beans) and potatoes. They emphasize on the menu and verbally no substitutions. My friend's main was Chicken Parm. I tasted a piece and it was outstanding. Since Chicken Parm goes well with pasta, we ordered a half portion of Rigatoni with Vodka Sauce. It served as a delicious additional side since our entree sides were combined and rather skimpy for 2. My main was Chicken Scarpariello. I've always felt biased that my father made this dish best so I was a bit skeptical to try. To my surprise, the Chicken, cut in small pieces and not deboned, was excellent and satisfying. I enjoyed it very much. My father's will always remain as the best--- lemony and with more garlic---but theirs was very, very good. Getting stuffed at this point but craving what seemed to be the signature dessert ordered, Tiramisu, we enjoyed their version very much. No dessert should be devoid of cappuccino which we also ordered. So delicious. Bamonte's was a delightful experience and met, if not exceeded, my expectations. A table here is very much in demand and I finally know why. They serve authentic and excellent Italian food. I can vouch for that. Highly recommend.

    We started a new tradition of coming to Bamonte's for the holidays! My boyfriend gathered up the troops and the place felt festive, old school and like a big familia. We all dressed up for the occasion. We got a large table and ordered drinks. I love this bee they have here called "Forst". It's a German style beer made in Italy. I know...wild but delish. Then we ordered clams, eggplant rollatini and the calamari for a starter. Bring it on! We devoured every nibble. Then we went back and forth on the entrees. I did this beautiful curly, cavatelli homemade pasta with greens and tomatoes. Phenomenal! The gang got their protein fill and could not be happier. We were full but we were not leaving without espresso and sambucca. The mom in the table next to us gave us a Bravo! for everything we ordered. We also ended up asking for a couple tiramisus! I'm getting my own next time. I am never disappointed here. So cozy and comforting. I love that real Italian life here. Families were here doing the same, celebrating the holidays and it felt great. The staff are lifers and they know how to take care of you!

    Upon walking in, you immediately get the feel of an OLD Italian restaurant. The bar area opens the restaurant, and the seating area is a bit towards the back. The decor is older, but clean. It does look like all the decor may be original to the restaurant. It's very dark in there, some people in my party needed to use flashlights to see the menu. There was also no music playing which I thought would have been a nice touch for a classic Italian restaurant. Upon sitting down, we were greeted by our server who took our drink and appetizer order, and told us to take our time choosing entrees. He came back shortly after and told us we needed to make a decision on the entrees because the kitchen would be closing soon. I assume he meant it was because the kitchen would be transitioning from the lunch to dinner. This should have been told to us when we made 4pm reservations. We just felt rushed ordering. The food came out, and each entree (as stated on the menu), was supposed to come with potatoes and vegetables. When they brought out our entrees, they then brought out one small dish each of string beans, and one small dish of potatoes, and placed it in the middle of the table and told us to share it. There were 5 of us. These small side dishes were MAYBE enough for 2-3 of us. We ended up ordering an extra side of broccoli rabe because some of us didn't get to have any from those small dishes. Side of broccoli rabe was $16.95 for a small dish. The food was okay, none of us were overly impressed. Appetizers- fried calamari, good. Mozzarella/Tomato/Red Peppers- we ordered one order of this and the waiter told us since there was 5 of us, we would be better off ordering 2 orders because one order only has 3 pieces of mozzarella. For nearly $20, I would've thought one order would've have a bit more than that. And we didn't like that he told us we should order 2 orders of that because there were a lot of us, yet then brings out small side dishes of vegetables for us to share.. Entrees- We ordered chicken Marsala, chicken francese, shrimp, salmon, and pork chops. Everything was good but nothing exceptional. Dessert- Italian cheesecake and cappucino/espresso. Cheesecake was okay. Small piece that looked like it was missing a piece at the end. We also got a bottle of wine which was actually really good (Ruffino Lumina Pinot Grigio) What I didn't like was that our bill was $356 and when they came back after charging my card, I noticed they charged $370. I should have been informed prior that there would be an upcharge for using a card to pay! Small parking lot which offers valet, or street parking. Overall, this is advertised as the oldest Italian restaurant in Brooklyn so it's worth a visit. I'd say bit pricey for the quality though.

    I discovered this restaurant on Instagram as one of the top Italian restaurants in NYC, so I decided to try it. It appeared to be family-owned in Williamsburg and consistently drew a large crowd throughout the day and night. Upon entering, I noticed that the restaurant was keen on maximizing seating, with diners placed very close to each other. They even added tables in the bar area next to the bathroom. The restaurant appeared to have a very old-school vibe; maybe that was the theme they were going for? The food ordered was: [] Calamari - They weren't overly fried or coated with breading. They were tender, not rough. They tasted flavorful enough; no sauce was needed (although it was included). This was one of the best dishes of the night. [] Rigatoni with vodka sauce - Maybe it's my taste buds, but I also thought the sauce lacked seasoning and flavor. The pasta was boiled well (al dente), but the vodka sauce's lack of flavor killed the dish. I was excited about this dish, but it let me down. [] Cavatelli with Bolognese Sauce - This dish was a big fail. I've had bolognese sauce before, & this sauce was weird. It felt like they just cooked the meat, dumped it on top of the sauce & stirred it together. Then, after they just dumped it on top of the pasta. Something like they just did it within 5 minutes of cooking time & something you could've just made at home yourself. The sauce on this dish also lacked flavor. I was also let down because I love bolognese sauce. [] Chicken Parmigiana - I'm a huge chicken parmigiana fan, and I feel like it's always a must if you eat at any Italian restaurant (if it's on the menu). It is well seasoned, not overly fried, not heavily covered with cheese, and with a good amount of sauce. The chicken wasn't dry either; it was tender. This was one of the dishes of the night. My table agreed with me, too. [] Chicken Marsala - Just like the chicken parmigiana, the chicken was tender & wasn't dry. It's easy to overcook chicken & it becomes dry, but the two chicken dishes weren't. Very flavorful & good amount of mushrooms added as garnish. [] Linguine with White Clam Sauce - I'm allergic to shellfish, so I couldn't try this dish, but my party said it was tasty. Overall, I thought the food wasn't as good as I thought. I also thought the pricing for the food portion, it wasn't even (considered in rating too). It's a little on the pricey side for the amount of food you'd get, but maybe it's because of the rent since it is Williamsburg (but they've been around since 1900s though), the pricing of ingredients, or the quality of the ingredients (import ingredients?). The menu said a lot of the pasta was homemade, so that's nice to know too! Another thing was, just like another review mentioned, I felt my party was rushed out the door. We weren't finished eating and we could felt they were eyeing the table because I was with a large party & maybe we were sitting for too long? Maybe I'm wrong? The waiter who served my table, didn't catch his name, was friendly and polite though. While I thought the pasta dishes were a let down, the protein dishes were the opposite. Anyway, this is my review about the food, but everyone's taste buds are different, so you'll perhaps have a better experience than I did. *TO DINE IN - RESERVATION REQUIRED*

    Miserable & disrespectful humans

    We had one of the worst dining experiences here. I have never felt so disrespected and embarrassed in a restaurant in my life. My cousins and I had lunch (our first and will be our last) on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Not busy, restaurant was pretty quiet, since there wasn't any music in the background except for the kitchen tenderizing meat. Two entitled customers started a loud confrontation, shouting across the room and creating a hostile environment. Instead of addressing their unacceptable behavior, the manager Nicole can be seen in the video apologizing to them while blaming us -- the actual people being disrespected. Talking at a normal voice level at a restaurant (a public place, not a private event) should not be an issue. They were seated 6ft away so obviously you can hear each other's conversation! If you wanted to have a quiet lunch then you should've stayed home. Not once did a staff or did they come over to ask us to lower our voices if it was such an issue. Apparently, these customers particularly this miserable woman have a history of being rude and causing scenes as we've been told by restaurant staff. The fact that management continues to enable it says it all. The lack of accountability was appalling and felt discriminatory. Our waiter, Raymond, was the only bright spot -- he was attentive and kind. The food itself was mediocre at best. We will never return. Minorities, beware -- this place clearly picks and chooses who deserves respect. Do better Bamonte's.

    We have been here a few times and love the classic Italian old school vibes. Each time the service has been really solid. For a table in the main dining area, reservation is likely required. We have only actually ate at the outer tables or the bar but still really enjoy it. You get to experience the surge of people coming in and waiting for their table. For a quieter experience, they still have their outdoor dining option. Our favorite is the Veal Parmesan. The lasagna, and baked clams are great too. The food isn't mind blowing or anything, youre really here for the ambience!

    Do they take reservations?

    We were visiting from California, and my son lives in Brooklyn, and when we were visiting I believe he called and made reservations, so I'd give them a call and find out.

    Can they accommodate vegan? They dont open until the day we’re trying to go

It wasn't until the 5th white couple she attempted to assist told her flat out that we were waiting before them, and the others she helped. I was looking for the owner or manager but thanks to this kind couple, that wasn't needed. Their blunt comments maybe embarrassed the hostess because only then did the hostess look at me rather than past me, and ask "how many..." she was ready to tell us there was no availability when I answered that we were a party of four as she looked around the dining room and gestured as if to say 'no seats'. I added that we had a reservation for 10 minutes ago. She asked my name and checked her tablet, then said "ok" and sat us at the table by the door. Once we were seated and situated, my young daughter looked up from her menu and asked me why was everybody else helped before us? She honestly didn't know. For those not familiar with having these types of conversations, let's just say that they can make even the best tasting pasta and pizza unsavory if you dwell on it. It's bad when a 7 year old notices they were "othered". Your mileage may vary, I'm sure there is more than one hostess working. I don't think I would recommend Barbalu to everybody unless you're getting take out, or you don't mind a "fight" to get service, assuming you insisted on eating here.

This was high up on my search, and with reviews like what they have, we decided to give them a shot. Its very easy to get to with a decent amount of street parking. Seems a bit out of place next to a deli on a residential block. You can kind of miss it if youre not paying attention. We were a party of 6 and had a 5 PM reservation. You have to pass through this dark curtain and go to the middle of the bar where the host will greet you and bring you to your seats. We were seated promptly with no wait. The restaurant is VERY small. So much so that at our table, all I had to do was reach my hand out and I would have been touching the kitchen counter. It does get a little crammed/crowded, but not in an annoying or unbearable kind of way. The vibe is actually really cozy and rustic. Very dim lighting so either whip out the flashlight on your phone or hold up one of the real candles they have on the table to read the menu. The food menu is straightforward and simple. They have an extensive wine list. I love how on the food menu, next to each dish, they tell you the region of Italy that dish gets its roots from. They have lovely dinnerware here. They brought out a foccacia bread for the table with a tomato dipping sauce. Absolutely delicious foccacia. The sauce was a tad too salty for me. I started off with the mocktail Luisa. It was passion fruit, lemon, agave, ginger beer, and mint. It was $10 and very fresh and mouthwatering! For my appetizer I had the Calamari alla griglia. Grilled calamari with guacamole and carasau bread. I've never had grilled calamari before. Only either marinara or fried. I also thought pairing it with guacamole was an interesting twist. I was so pleasantly surprised by this dish. The calamari were perfectly fork tender grilled. The guacamole went well with it. The carasau bread was more like a tortilla chip. They give you a decent amount for $24.95. That app slid down my throat effortlessly! For my entree I had the Maccheroncini alla Norma. Maccheroni with eggplant in tomato sauce with ricotta cheese. The pasta was so fresh and perfectly cooked. The sauce reminded me so much of my Calabrian grandmother's. The ricotta made it rich and creamy. Filling as well. So much so that, even though it wasn't a huge portion, I had to take home half of it because I was verging on being stuffed! My mother had the Cotoletta alla milanese. Keep in mind that if you get this chicken cutlet dish that it serves about four people, even though its for 1! HUGE portion. About 4 enormous cutlets that gave my mom 3 days of leftovers! All of the desserts were $12.95. A nice selection to choose from, but I had the classic Tiramisu. They make it here tableside. He made it with such care. Loved watching him put it all together. Let me tell you, that was the BEST Tiramisu that I've EVER had! Wow, just amazing. Very balanced, quality ingredients. The marscapone was so decadent, creamy and fresh. I could have easily taken down 2 of them! I tried some of my mother's chocolate cake. Delicious and decadent. Service throughout our dinner was above and beyond. From the start, the food was delicious starting with the house bread which was warm and soft but still felt light. For dinner, I ordered the special for the night which was cacio pepe ravioli, while my husband got the tagliatelle verdi con ragu. Both of our pasta dishes felt extremely fresh. The ravioli was unlike anything Ive had before, with flavorful cacio pepe filling and a butter sauce with pancetta complementing the flavor. The tagliatelle was also delicious in a more ragu centric way, still offering a good balance of flavor. Both dishes were pretty filling and so neither of us could finish it. We ended the night with cannolis, which was a pleasant surprise to find 3 came in 1 order. One side is pistachio while the other had a coco dusting. These were again delicious but pretty filling and sweet so we could only eat one. The staff here was also very friendly and service was quick with food coming out much faster than I expected. Overall I would come back and try even more on their menu.

We went around Christmas and it was decorated inside. The restaurant was packed. Every single table was full. Everyone was having the best time. Even the bar was totally full of people ordering drinks before they were seated. The food is classic, New York Italian. Everything is a very well done version. The veal Parm was one of the best I've ever had. The caramel cake at the end was truly beyond. I can't recommend this experience enough. We ate for three hours had amazing cocktails, great bottles of wine and a really delicious meal. Looking around, you could tell the diners were locals enjoying a beloved neighborhood restaurant. We were served bread and some antipasto to start. The calamari was a classic and I loved the sauce -- it had a good spicy kick to it. The baked clams were okay. The Fisherman's Platter is a must and good value with its generous portion of seafood. It can definitely be shared amongst two people. The baked vodka penne was also good but portion was on the smaller side. I would say Michael's is a must try at least once.
