Came here on a weekend so parking was terrible (keep in mind!). First, I had a hard time finding the entrance to the restaurant. There was a sign on the side of a building so it threw me off. The restaurant is in a hotel so you have to go down the steps to get to the restaurant. I loved the aesthetic of the place and the decorations were so fun. I ordered 2 scrambled eggs, bacon with crispy potatoes. The potatoes were under cooked, not crispy at all. There was also no seasoning so it was pretty bland. The burger was cooked perfectly and French fries were good. The service wasn't great either, it took a while to get to the attention of our server just to ask for some water. I stay here every year but I don't get the opportunity to really sit down and enjoy the meals here. I've had drinks here which are great but depending on the night and how busy they are the service can be hit or miss. I ate at Sungold for breakfast and while i did expect the food to be pricier it didn't match what I thought I would be getting, maybe I just ordered the wrong thing but I got an avocado toast with an egg and sausage. When in Brooklyn, let your daughter choose where to eat. (Although, I actually chose the spot for breakfast the next day.) Loved this cute spot for breakfast. Not crowded, so comfy and our service was amazing. I really wanted eggs and the chocolate babka French toast, so my daughter and I split the Second Street eggs and the French toast. The French toast should be illegal. It is so decadently delicious with the potential to be addictive. The thick chocolate babka French toast slices are soooo good. Especially if you like chocolate. It was topped with a house made espresso whipped cream. No need for syrup on this French toast. The Second Street eggs are a basic breakfast platter. Eggs sunny side up, hash browns, toast and a protein. My clever daughter had them sub avocado slices for the meat. My hubby did the brunch special and got a crispy chicken sandwich with fries and a drip coffee since our crazy hotel, CODA, apparently could not make coffee in the morning. Service was great. Breakfast was delicious. The couches are so cozy. Bathrooms are a bit odd. Incredible place, delicious drinks, and the vibes are vibing here. Located inside of Arlo Williamsburg, this restaurant and location is so iconic. From the beautiful colorful bar, to the cozy brick walls and cool, sophisticated feels. At Sunglold, you can come grab dinner, date night, grab a drink or even celebrate your next event. We came here for drinks and ordered some incredible drinks made by Saz (specializing in sazerac of course). My hubby is the #1 fan of sazeracs and he absolutely approved. I decided to try something different and ordered the caprese martini. Just typing those two words made me think about it all over again. Yes, it's supposed to taste like a caprese salad but in a glass. I know, but HOW? How do they do it? This drink blew my mind and I couldn't stop thinking about it. So much so, when we came back the following week for our friend's after-proposal dinner party, I knew I had to order it. AND I DID. And I loved it all over again and I'm absolutely obsessed and I hope they never ever take it off the menu otherwise I'll just have to add vodka to my tomato and mozzarella salad lol. The private event: was epic. We had a big group of like 30 and the server was killing it. Food was being brought out. We all ordered at different times, and were hungry at different times, but we all were just enjoying, hanging, vibing, chilling and having a great time. We chose the cool U shaped booths to the right of the bar and it was perfect. There was even a live DJ on a Friday night playing some music but nothing too crazy. The food was good but what really speaks to me here is the drinks. An absolute 10/10 for the bartenders, service and ambiance. Can't wait to go back! Pro tip: each bar in this building has its own menu! You can "bar hop" just by jumping on the elevator to the rooftop and then riding up (or taking the stairs) to the Watertower. So fun! read more

Overall, a good spot! They made a good cappuccino, mimosa, and pancakes, and it's large so it's a great place for a group. The servers were really nice and friendly, and the restaurant itself is very cute. My only complaint- I got a smoothie and it was so thick that I couldn't drink it for about 5 minutes while I let it melt. Then, when it finally did, it had giant chunks of synthetic almonds in it. Service was great, but I thought food was just ok. I came here for brunch on a Saturday. The restaurant is inside the Arlo hotel. You can get to it directly from the street by walking down a flight of stairs. As the name suggests, the restaurant was warm and inviting. It had high ceilings and a brightly covered woven art piece adorning the top of the bar. For seating, they had a bunch of very spacious upholstered booths, as well as additional tables in the back. All the employees were attentive and accommodating. I ordered the smashed avocado and swapped the poached eggs for scrambled. This was a tasty dish. Perfect portion size. The avocado was fresh and complemented nicely by the sun-dried tomatoes. They provided their homemade hot sauce for the table. It was flavorful and a little smoky, but not at all spicy. I also tried the pancakes. An order came with two, but they were quite large and thick. They were the perfect texture, with a bit of crispiness to the outer dough and richness from the accompanying flavored butter. Our waiter did inform us before ordering that they would take about 15 minutes to be prepared and that proved to be true. The apple with greens mix was refreshing and I was happy with my choice. The service was very good, I had my server worked with me on picking a cocktail that most suited my taste and after chatting and the cocktail was made- it was on point. Appreciated her for that. Solid food and great drinks. Easy to get reservations last minute if you are struggling for a 7:30 Fri/Sat dinner. I was initially nervous to see how empty it was for a Friday evening. We had split the charred cucumbers, celery root latke, wagyu tartare, lamb meatballs and the crab gnocchi. The latke was probably our favorite followed by the meatballs and the cucumbers. The Arlo Hotel is one of many North Williamsburg hotels to hop on the upscale restaurant trend. There's Mesiba, Le Crocodile, and Westlight, to name a few. We actually ended up at Sungold unintentionally, as we were at a big party in the hotel's downstairs event space all evening and night and we eventually got hungry enough that we needed a meal. I hadn't anticipated eating a proper meal this night, so it was a nice surprise to find ourselves at Sungold, which has an approachable but creative menu of American food. We didn't spend a whole lot of time here as we were itching to get back downstairs, but we still enjoyed the experience. We came here at around 9:45/10 on a Friday night. At this point the restaurant was only about half full, though the bar area was pretty swamped (the "craft" cocktails for the event downstairs were serviceable at best so others may have come up here for the good stuff). The cocktail menu here is pretty exciting, so I can understand why the bar was in such demand. To start, I got the Spicy Voodoo (arbikie chilli vodka, copalli cacao rum, guava, passion fruit, lemon juice, rosemary syrup, wormwood bitters) despite not liking vodka at all, but I was really in the mood for something spicy. It was exactly what I was in the mood for and definitely more complex than most vodka cocktails you tend to see. I then got the Smoked Swine Ol' Fashion (whistlepig piggyback 6yr rye, whistlepig maple syrup, black sesame, coffee bitters) which was a little sweet and a little savory, and they got bonus points because they served us our second round in plastic cups so we could bring them back downstairs. Food-wise, I was pleasantly surprised with the degree of creativity and execution here. We only had one dish I was disappointed by, while the others were either great or amazing. If we hadn't been in a bit of a rush we could've sat and savored more, but I'm glad we got to try what we did because it was really delicious. The table next to us ended up copying our order almost exactly because we were raving about some of the dishes. Eats, below: Smoked Sunchokes w/ brown butter labneh, citrus, pistachio: A+ Sunchokes have always been an unsung hero of produce, and I'm thrilled anytime I see them on the menu. They're often prepared like potatoes but they're more exciting to me. These were a dream and we both raved about them. Super flavorful. Shaved Kohlrabi Salad w/ goat cheese, radish, asian pear, marcona almond: B+ The only slightly less exciting dish of the night. Certainly fresh and healthy but nothing memorable. Celery Root Latke w/ pear butter, horseradish, lots of chives: A+ Probably our most innovative dish of the meal, so good that tables around us ended up ordering it for themselves after hearing our reviews. Again, they use a fun potato substitute here, plus an applesauce substitute in the pear butter. Whimsical and delicious. Roasted Arctic Char w/ peas, new potatoes, cippolini: A A perfectly cooked piece of dish, with delicious accompaniments featuring subtle falvors. Stopped in for a bachelorette brunch this past weekend. The restaurant is located in the Arlo Williamsburg hotel. Restaurant is large with lots of tables and a large bar. Was fairly empty for a Sunday afternoon but service was great. Our servers were friendly and stopped by often. The menu isn't particularly large. I had the hangover sandwich which comes with fried eggs, bacon, avocado and onion strings on an everything bun. The bun was a little dry and there wasn't enough aioli on the sandwich but I felt it was decent. It is served with fries but they let me substitute for home fries which were delicious! I had the oaxaca sunset drink with tequila instead of mezcal and that was just okay, not something I'd order again. We both ordered the burger. The menu offers it with "crispy onion" and "deluxe sauce." I asked the waiter if I could have my burger with raw onion instead. (Clearly they had raw onions in the kitchen to make the crispy onions with?) The waiter said he would ask but would i be ok with the crispy onions if it couldn't be done? Confident that it could, I said yes. The burger arrived with crispy onion. Even more problematic was the "deluxe sauce," which the waiter explained (when I asked) was chipotle mayo. That would have been fine, except that the burgers came so doused with this "deluxe" sauce that what could have been a delicious burger was a goopy, disgusting mess. We spent most of our time eating it making sure that sauce didn't drip and stain our clothes. We could have used a beach towel, instead of the single napkin we were given. Yuck. The two stars goes to our delightful and empathetic waiter. We were the only customers in the restaurant (not surprising in retrospect), and even our 25% tip isn't going to be much help paying his Brooklyn rent. Poor guy -- he's an excellent waiter and deserves a job at a far better restaurant than this. read more
