    Graham pizza (top), Margherita (bottom)

New Williamsburg hot spot alert!!! My prediction is that in 6-12 months it'll be extremely difficult to get a ressy here. I mean the interior is absolutely beautiful & such a vibe. I went about a month after they opened and this place was packed. We left at 10PM and there was still 100 people waiting to get sat for dinner. Drinks - got a dirty maritini (fab) and Paloma 2.0 on tap ($17). Loved the Paloma as well. Drinks are tasty and strong. For food, we basically tried everything on the menu. Focaccia & marinated anchovies were my faves from the snacks. From apps, loved the Piccolo Fritto Misto. Came with pineapple - so unique & flavorful. Radiccbi di Campo salad was a great additional green. Tried the Margherita, Diavola, and the Graham pizzas. All were good but Graham was my fave (must try). Pizzas are Neapolitan (thin) style. I liked pizzas over pasta! Also, allegedly there's a DJ that comes in after hours. Didn't stick around that long, but will be making a trip back to check out the DJ

WE LOVE FUN. WE LOVE GOOD FOOD. WE LOVE WHIMSY. All the new restaurants want to be too serious. Not balera. Think a fancy restaurant in your favorite cartoon show. Exaggerated, fast, ambient. All in the best way possible. Great energy all around. The cappelletti was superb. Creamy, with a ton of depth, yet somehow, not heavy. Filled with meat, still airy. The focaccia superb. This thing has springs. I mean it bounces like a trampoline it is so fluffy! But, if we are talkng air, let's talk buffalo ricotta. This thing was a cloud of creamy, silky, lactose laced lusciousness. I mean it was melting before it even hits your tongue. A velvet merengue seduced by the funk of olive oil and just enough salt for you to lick your lips after every bite.

It's rare to dine at a place where everything really is a 10/10. My friend and I sat at the bar and each ordered 2-3 drinks, margarita with pepperoni (it's not on the menu but they put it on for us which was so nice), seafood pasta, squash appetizer, and a string bean salad, then ended with a tiramisu. Every food item was delicious, the bartender was so attentive with our drinks - he made sure I liked the wine I was ordering before I committed, there was outdoor seating and a really nice indoor dining area past the bar as well. I'd love to go back and try other menu items!

Their twist on a Paloma and old fashion and it was great! Margarita pizza that was destroyed cause it was so good !

The drinks were great and the pizza was thin and not overly sauced up it was perfect. Didn't take a photo but their tiramisu was a perfect way to end the meal. Our bartender/server was also very nice they had a dj playing on the Friday we were there. Would definitely come again and try out more of their menu!

My first time at Balera and WOW!! I felt completely transported to Italy the moment I walked in. The staff was incredibly hospitable and welcoming. We started at the bar with wine and appetizers, and the focaccia alone was worth the trip. The sommelier's wine suggestions were spot on and absolutely delicious. We moved on to pizza, pasta, and salad and I have to say, the eggplant pizza was a revelation. Never tried it before and now I'm obsessed. Every bite was insane in the best way. Already planning my return visit. Well done, Balera team! 10/10

Fun ambiance. Trendy vibe. Great people. Servers were very attentive amidst it being the opening night. Food was good. Really enjoyed the pizza.

Went on their second night open and despite being completely booked (the server mentioned they had over 250 covers that night), the service was friendly and warm and the food was ABSOLUTELY HITTING. This is the sort of place where you comment to your dining partner on how good the olives are. The mozzarella thing (think a mozzarella stick but it's triangular and has sage and anchovies inside) is destined to go viral, and deservedly so. The zdory Bloody Mary was surprisingly noteworthy, it was like a drinkable delicious marinara.

Cash only, BYOB (with rules depending on how many people), and a time limit on the table. Know what you want when you sit down. Menu is easy, pizza, calzones, sometimes pasta. Simple. Is it worth waiting in line for - maybe - if you have 2-3 hours free and nothing else to do and it's a nice day, sure. But honestly can't say I am running back to do it again. Waiting in line to get added to a waitlist that still doesn't always guarantee you will sit down to eat at the requested time - we were seated 40 mins after checking in (unusually long, never had more then 20 mins or so in past visits) but still a strange system, keeps the spot exclusive I'd guess. Have visited several times and always have had a good meal and the prices are very fair. Seating is not super comfortable and they pack you in for real, the restaurant is also unnecessarily dark and loud - But not in a bad way? I can't explain it but the very delicious pizza makes up for the weird ambiance and all the rules... definitely something to experience atleast once.

I've been eating L&B Spumoni Gardens for as long as I can remember, and it remains exactly what it's supposed to be: loud, crowded, unpretentious, completely its own thing, and ridiculously good. The square slice is the square slice. Sauce on top, cheese underneath, crispy edges, soft center. Don't overthink it. Get one. Then realize you should have gotten two. The sit-down food is classic Brooklyn Italian comfort food, the portions are generous, and obviously you finish with the spumoni. This isn't precious food and it isn't trying to impress anybody. That's precisely the point. Brooklyn has changed about 9,625,247 times in my lifetime. L&B is still L&B. Five stars. Always.

We chose L&B Spumoni Gardens because of the strong reviews and because it seemed to be one of the…read moremore popular places in the area. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. We ordered a glass of wine, a beer, an arugula salad, and our main food order. Everything started out fine, and the salad came without a problem. But then we waited. And waited. About 30 minutes after we had ordered, I asked our waiter where our food was. He apologized and admitted that he had forgotten to put the order in. By that point, we had already watched other tables receive their food, including people who had arrived well after us. We continued waiting, and after roughly 40 minutes or more, our food still had not arrived. At that point, the dining experience was already ruined and we decided to leave. Ironically, just as we were getting ready to go, the food finally started coming out. I told them we no longer wanted it. The waiter did apologize again and offered us a pizza to take with us, which I assume was complimentary, but by then we were simply ready to leave. Even paying the bill became unnecessarily drawn out. We were charged the full amount for the salad, beer, and wine. I sat with a $50 bill ready to pay, was handed the check, and then ended up standing around for another five minutes waiting for someone to actually take the money. There was no apology from the person handling the payment. I understand that mistakes happen, and I appreciated that our waiter admitted he had forgotten to place the order. But when a restaurant makes that kind of mistake, the recovery matters. After waiting that long, watching later-arriving customers get served, and then having difficulty simply paying and leaving, an apology and a pizza at the very end didn't really fix the experience. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I can't say the service lived up to the restaurant's reputation.

I've eaten here, come to the Bushwick Block Party to see Action Bronson perform, and spent enough time around Tiki Disco to associate the place with a particularly inventive, free-spirited period in the neighborhood. The dining area still has that wonderfully idiosyncratic character: exposed beams, communal tables, mismatched details, and an open kitchen turning out genuinely excellent pizza. What impresses me most is how naturally Roberta's became more than a restaurant. Food, music, parties, outdoor spaces, and an extraordinary mix of people all seemed to converge here, giving the place a cultural gravity that could never have been designed by committee. It remains one of those places that instantly takes me back to my bachelor years and an especially fun chapter of my time in the city, when Bushwick felt endlessly creative, and Roberta's seemed to sit comfortably at its center. Sending my highest recommendation!

Got a TGTG order here. 11/10 I'd do it again…read more Brooklyn DOP actually originated as a pandemic business where my friend's personal trainer started baking pizzas outside of his Greenwood Heights apartment. When the hype got large enough, the owner decided to start a pizzeria and the rest is not history. This is one of the more worthwhile TGTG orders to me. Their pizza is SOOO perfectly crisp and charred, and actually is one of the closest pizzas that reminds me of the famous originals in Napoli.

Brooklyn DOP is a prime example of what happens when a pandemic lockdown, a dough obsession, and an…read moreinability to sit still all collide. We visited as a stop on Scott's Pizza Bus Tour, which meant we were actively evaluating it against some of the best pizza in the city. Evaluating pizza on a tour is tricky because excellence becomes relative when you are eating multiple high-end pies in a single afternoon. According to Scott, Brooklyn DOP began in founder Thomas Ardito's apartment during the 2020 lockdowns. With his primary work on pause, he started baking pizza and selling pies through Instagram to pay his rent. People kept ordering. His friend Jason D'Amelio joined the effort, and what started as an apartment project turned into pop-ups and eventually a brick-and-mortar shop on 5th Avenue in Park Slope. That is a considerably more compelling origin story than a corporate franchise business plan. The setup in Park Slope includes a quiet back courtyard, which offered a comfortable spot for our group to sit, eat, and recover between stops. It feels relaxed and distinctly Brooklyn without trying too hard to remind you where you are. The pizza itself is very good. The crust strikes a proper balance between a crisp bottom and a chewy interior. The toppings are handled with care, from the crushed tomatoes to the fresh mozzarella. This is dough crafted by people who take fermentation seriously rather than relying on pre-packaged shortcuts. On its own merits, the pizza is a solid 4.5 stars. Unfortunately for Brooklyn DOP, it was competing on a tour against places operating on another plane. It is an excellent pie, but it was not the single slice that caused the entire tour to fall silent in collective awe. Still, that is an aggressive standard to hold against any local shop. Brooklyn DOP offers a great courtyard, a serious approach to dough, and a standout product. Landing just shy of five stars says far more about the sheer volume of elite pizza we ate that day than it does about the shop itself. Four stars. And if you are not spending the afternoon riding around New York with Scott Wiener eating pizza at some of the finest pizza joints the 5 boroughs have to offer, you can probably bump that half-star back up.
