Roman's is an intimate and delicious neighborhood gem. On the smaller side as far as restaurants go, this is a great spot for a nice dinner with friends for a special event, date night, or hosting family. The menu is farm to table so may differ depending on when you come in, but generally there are pasta dishes as well as a protein section on their menu. We sat at a cute table in the back and started off with the antipasti plate and skin contact white wine. We also threw in an order of one of the pastas each so we can all share as well as the chicken. The anti pasti was delicious coming with several meats, olives, and Parmesan cheese with a side of bread. Perfect to kick us off. This a spot you're going to want to love the company you're with (and thank god I love them so much) because the kitchen doesn't move the fastest. There were probably 30 minute increments in between courses. The pastas were worth the wait and were delicious. I personally loved the spaghetti that came with a boiled down anchovy sauce and dandelion greens which gave it a nice tangy kick. A perfect light pasta dish for the crisp April day we were having. The lamb ragu rigatoni was rich and on the heartier and comforting side, while the maltagliati and mushroom dish also surprised with its flavors. It's hard for me to pick a favorite between the three pastas. Another 30 minutes after shining off our pasta plates, the chicken came out. The waiters already dropped a dessert menu on our table so we just assumed they forgot and w were basically ready to go. Diving back in, the chicken was juicy and tender, cooked in butter and fat and came with a chili oil sauce that was reminiscent of buffalo wings. The pieces I had were meaty, though others at my table had more trouble with bones where getting a good chunk of meat felt like a win. "I got a piece!" Overall Roman's is a great upscale neighborhood spot, but don't come with a stacked evening of plans because it's definitely one for you to sit and stay a while. read more

Went here for a girls night and for the abbreviated version - - service was unpleasant. The woman who seated us and one of the women who brought out the food were delightful. Our waitress - when she came by - wasn't friendly at all. It was not a pleasant dining experience. But, they did refill our water carafe a lot and that's a plus. - come for the fish cheeks and the dessert. The pasta dishes were fine, lacking a bit of flavor. Roman's offers Italian fare tucked in the quaint neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn. Since the weather in late October is unseasonably pleasant our group of four chose to be seated outdoors. The menu is one page and without much explanation but the staff is within reach for questions, recommendations and anything else. We started with a bottle of Sauvignon blanc together with an antipasto plate of olives, Parmigiano, mortadella, spicy coppa, and prosciutto served with homemade bread. The plate portion was good and sufficient for our group. The menu changes every weekend for lunch and there are only 4 main entrees to choose from. Our group decided to order all of the main entrees to share: 1. Chittara with tomato 2. Summer squash frittata with cherry tomatoes and arugula 3. Chickpea, cabbage, and koginut squash stew with a fried egg 4. Orecchiette with broccoli rabe, anchovy, and breadcrumbs Everyone from our group seemed to have enjoyed their dish but I particularly loved the chitarra tomatoes, it was freshly made and delicious. If anything, my partner thought lack of meat option for main entrees is an issue. The staff is friendly and helpful, they know the dishes and their wines. They offered lovely suggestions for us. Was inspired to come to Roman's after reading the glowing reviews for Borgo under the same ownership. Glad to have finally made it after routinely walking past this neighborhood spot for years. We ordered the fava bean purée, a perfectly dressed radicchio salad, and a tilefish main with a crispy skin, salsa verde and crispy rice. The meal was perfectly finished with a slice of polenta cake that came with what I can only describe as a butternut squash curd. The wines by the glass list is small and a bit pricey but appreciate that they offered half bottle options on those pours as well. The space inside is small but not dissimilar from other nyc dining. There was also a yummy and unique barolo chinato on the menu as a dessert wine option that our were able to geek out with our server about. read more

a lovely dinner on a rainy day in BK! the restaurant was decently packed when we got there for an early dinner. the place had a nice ambiance too. we started with a Daily Sour and a glass of red. we got the following to try: -arancini verde: piping hot, crunchy on the outside, and cheesy/melty on the inside. a great start to our meal! -paccheri with squid, chickpeas, and peppers: al dente pasta with squid, chickpeas, and peppers in a slightly tangy sauce. it seemed like an unlikely pairing but everything fits. -chicken diavolo: huuuuuuge half chicken, served with roasted potatoes and broccolini. it was juicy and perfectly seasoned. the chicken is bone-in tho, something worth noting. service was attentive but not intrusive. a pretty solid meal in BK. read more

This would be a 5-star review if not for the inedible vinegary panna cotta we were served for dessert after an otherwise impeccable meal. Needless to say, I'd advise on finishing your meal here with just an Amaro, or satisfying your sweet tooth with Ben and Jerry's at home. But as to what I love here, I'm not sure where to begin. The fava bean puree, served with what I believe to be swiss chard, is subtle yet flavorful, perfectly silky, and overall one of the few standout mezzes I've eaten in a borough under a siege of unmemorable labne. The honeynut squash punched with complex flavor from pecorino, catching offguard my modest expectations of an often bland vegetable. For pastas, the tagliatelle was perfectly al-dente, and had a smoky, meaty flavor (read that with a grain of salt coming from a vegetarian) that immensely pleased the palate. And of course the cocktails here are the real star of the show, I thoroughly enjoyed my bitter of the day. read more

Our go to in the neighborhood. There are lots of good options around, but Romans remains consistent in the quality of the food and the staff is also wonderful. You can squeeze in at the bar during the week easily, and you can put your name in and come back on the weekend. We always get the fava bean puree, and mix up a pasta with some salads. Fruit puree underneath was especially good. Steak was perfectly cooked. Black Sea bass was wonderful and would have been better deboned but we managed. The two appetizers we ordered (the radicchio salad and the fava purée) were fabulous (as was our wine). However, we should have just stopped with those two items. My husband ordered a pasta dish with a pork ragu and I had a linguine with shrimp dish. Both of them were terrible. The amount of salt in each was unbelievable. My husband was starving so he ate his. But I really could not eat mine, so I asked if somehow the kitchen could maybe add more plain pasta. The server was very nice and said they would just make me a new one. To be honest, there was almost no difference between the 2. I had a few bites and left the rest. It was a shame. We decided we didn't want to end the meal on those notes so ordered an apple cake which was yummy. One of the servers was lovely but our main waitress had as much personality as a cardboard box. We had a lovely, late-night (9:30) meal at Roman's last night. Had planned to go to Sailor, but they didn't have room for us, so we ducked across the street. I had been to Roman's once before and hadn't been wowed, but last night was fantastic. Started with the daily sour cocktail, which was a rye concoction - very well-balanced and delicious. The olives were plentiful and flavorful, and the bread, which came unadorned and unaccompanied, was divine. I can also recommend both the chicken and the orecchiette with pork sausage - we sopped up every drop of the sauce from the latter with the aforementioned bread. Legumes, fresh vegetables, seeds, good cheese... all become part of a thoughtful short menu where everything is worth it. This menu, expands Italian culture into the nuances of regional traditions of specific parts of the country with distinctive cooking traditions. Don't miss their Pasta e Fagioli variant, with a strong Emilia feeling. This is very important in a country where too often pasta (an Italian cuisine at large) have been reducen to a tiny collection of Napolitanish cliches. Wine selection is humble, but well done. Had an absolutely wonderful Sunday evening here not too long ago. Atmosphere is very cozy and feels very homey. Our waitress was very friendly and helped us navigate our way to two glasses of wine. She was kind enough to let us try a couple varieties we were deciding between which is always very helpful. The food was absolutely delicious, we left the restaurant stuffed. Feel the need to review this restaurant after seeing it only has 3.5 stars on Yelp. Everything about my visit was perfect. The ambiance is lovely - dimly lit and intimate, great for a date night or just a catch up with friends. Tried a wide selection of menu items...fava bean dip (still dreaming about this and the greens on top of it), pasta, chicken, and ricotta. It is everything I want in a restaurant, and if I lived in Fort Greene I would eat here at least twice a month. Love that the menu changes daily. read more

We stopped in here on a whim. It looks understated but quaint from the outside. We noted that at least when we entered; there was no menu with prices in the front of the business. We were greeted quickly and seated very quickly which was appreciated. I asked for the non alcoholic spirit options to which the bartender provided a rather unfriendly "we don't have any". How do you ask me without verbally asking me why we sat at a bar if I don't drink?(hint: give me the look and reaction this bartender did) However to the bartenders credit; she rebounded quickly realizing I wasn't kidding and offered a "soda of the day". An appreciated gesture. (The soda was good) When we looked at the menu; the prices were surprisingly expensive for how the storefront presents itself. My partner and I are open minded so we stayed. We ordered the prosciutto to start. $18 for 5 pieces of meat and 3 pieces of bread is a rather unreasonable ask. The plate came out as expected minus the quantity provided. We then ordered the second course of a pesto pasta. $28 for pest pasta is also a rip off considering they give you about a cup and a half of a serving. Pasta is inexpensive as is pesto. The final dish was the $44 scallops. We got 5 over cooked/burnt scallops that were still decent tasting. However; they were no $44 good. Noteworthy is it took *forever* for food to come out and the restaurant was not packed out. I would expect for the prices you are paying a much higher level of service. Save yourself time and money and go to saringhinas cafe down the road. Or go to Walters by the park. Better view, better service, and more affordable. *restaurant also deceptively puts tip in food prices then allows for option to tip more for their subpar service buyer beware** read more

Roman's may be one of my new favorite restaurants in Brooklyn! The menu changes daily though, so maybe we just got lucky with what was being served that day. The atmosphere is easy going and not stuffy, but still a great first date spot. For starters, we ordered the Smoking Goose Soppressata and Ricotta (forgot what was in the ricotta - tasted like spiced tomato sauce and green beans with cashews). The soppressata was the best I have ever had - very thinly sliced, flavorful, and soft like the texture of prosciutto. The ricotta was not outstanding but still good; the green beans complemented the plain ricotta well and the cashews gave the dish a nice crunch. The pastas were excellent! We ordered the spaghetti with green garlic, bottarga, and egg yolk & paccheri with pork ragu and broccoli rabe. You can't go wrong with pork ragu ever but the spaghetti is unusual in a good way. It almost tastes like the white sauce that comes with linguine alla vongole, with the fishiness coming from the bottarga. It has a beautiful green sauce that you don't see very often in pasta sauce (unless it is pesto). My favorite dish may have been the pork Milanese with sweet peppers and green olives. The pork meat was high quality and banged super thin. It was not greasy. The greens that came with it were spicy and packed full of flavor. It paired perfectly with the simple pork. There were also bits of sharp Parmesan pieces that enhanced the dish with some savoriness. Only critique would be the waitstaff - they checked in a little too much but at the same time did not give us what we would ask for. Well intentioned but forgetful. read more

Roman's has a really fun atmosphere, which is somehow both upscale and local neighborhood spot at the same time. I also admire places that are trying to go tipless to give their full staff better compensation. But Roman's has more issues than those positive aspects can overcome. For one, the food is good, but not great. I really enjoyed the suppli (arancini with some cheese inside, basically), but the pasta special and a roasted duck entree were nothing to write home about, especially compared to the food being turned out at Italian places nearby like Evelina. Worse are the prices, which, even accounting for gratuity inclusion, are outlandish given the portion sizes. The duck entree, which the server said was "sharing size," was actually what I would call a small entree (or a large "small plate"). It was also $48 -- meaning $40 without the tip -- making it more expensive than all of the entrees at 99% of the restaurants in Brooklyn. As egregious are the drinks -- $16-18 minimum for a glass of wine, $15 or more for a cocktail. My wife and I split those three dishes with a drink apiece, and left very hungry with light wallets. Add in slow and supercilious service, and I doubt we'll be back -- too many good spots in the area now. read more

Stumbled upon this latest spot from the team behind marlow and sons while navigating long waits at other fort Greene spots, and still confused as to why this location didn't have the same. The ambiance was wonderful, the service beyond notable, and food and drinks were the kind that warm you on the inside. Comforting to the next level. I got the daily bitter cocktail, not fully understanding any of the ingredients, and leaving it wishing I could recreate it at home because it would be an incredible refreshing go-to. An eggplant pasta and little gem salad were to die for. Ran into some friends who come here for dessert, so while we were full, stayed for an extra course. Fig ice cream and loaf - yum! read more

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants, and it pains me to leave this review. The food quality had always been outstanding but my last two visits have been big misses. But what has bothered me most is the growing pretentiousness of the service. The host was outright rude to my boyfriend and I who had a reservation, and when we took our seats outside it was like she purposely served others their menus before us and didn't bring us blankets even though we asked twice. Tiffany started with a funky orange wine and I had Rye. The beef carpaccio with Beets, Arugula, Parmesan, and Sea Salt. We had then had the bucatini and monk fish. The pasta was out of this world good. The texture was firm yet pliable. The fish was done well with an okay portion with a white beans and butternut squash. The sedani with pork and fennel ragu is the stuff of dreams! Fork tender and so flavorful. Spouse had the chicken Milanese -- the breading was fantastic (made from their sourdough bread, btw). A previous reviewer mentioned the vinaigrette on the frisee and that was no joke! That really needs to be bottled and sold. Enjoyed the olives for appetizers. Definitely get the sourdough bread to accompany that so you can soak up the delicious seasoned oil from the olives! Atmosphere was intimate and welcoming; felt like a nice European bistro.
