Maximalist, dramatic, moody, and definitely a scene. We came on a weeknight and it was still PACKED. It's pretty loud and dark inside, which I personally don't mind, but something to know if that's not your vibe. Service was great overall. Friendly servers and pretty quick considering how busy it was. What we ordered: Pepperoncini Martini -- 9/10 Briny with a little spice. Delicious and probably one of my favorite things of the night. Dressed Kumamoto Oysters -- 7/10 Yummy with the shallots. The oysters weren't super creamy, but that is more of a personal preference thing. Roasted Garlic Babka -- 8.5/10 Flaky, warm, garlicky, parmesan-y goodness. Whipped Ricotta & Truffle Honey Butter -- 8/10 So good with the crusty bread. I just wish the bread had been warmer! Roni Cups -- 5/10 Way too salty for me, but I liked how crispy they were. Definitely better with the basil. Crispy Calamari Casino -- 8/10 Perfectly light and crispy without being overly oily. Loved the tangy sauce and fresh lemon. Bad Roman Wedge -- 8/10 Really good-quality black olives, juicy tomatoes, crispy lettuce, and pepperoncini. A solid wedge. Snake River Wagyu Strip + Cacio e Pepe Raviolo Wagyu -- 9/10: Perfectly cooked and super tender. Raviolo -- 6/10: A little heavy and gummy for me. Paccheri Amatriciana -- 8.5/10 Perfectly al dente with creamy tomato sauce and guanciale. So good. Lemon Cheesecake -- 8.5/10 Super creamy and lemony with a crunchy crumb and thin white chocolate layer. Delicious. I'd seen some pretty polarized opinions about Bad Roman, but I thought the food was both fun and delicious. I appreciate the unique takes on familiar flavors, and the over-the-top atmosphere feels like part of the experience. It's also SO Instagrammable inside. The perfect place to dress up just because, take cute pictures, order a bunch of things for the table, and have a fun night out. I'd definitely come back!

TLDR: Food's genuinely good, some kinks needs to be ironed out. We called to make a last minute Saturday resy for opening time. Luckily they had a spot so we went in. They're also on OpenTable. Street Parking or lot parking is paid. Easy access. They have a fairly decent sized menu with lots of veg and pescatarian options. We got the shrimp chitarra minus shrimp/veg, crab luigi, eggplant pull a parm, sauted spinach, and lemon cheesecake. They also gave us a sorbet on the side for celebration. All of it tasted amazing, especially the marinara that's served with the parm and the sorbet. Drinks were alright, the dessert cocktail with pine nuts needs to be skipped if you dislike pine nuts as much as I do (but did not know pinolo stands for that). They were out of/low on the cars for the shots. The restrooms were out of toilet paper. So there are some funcitonal things they need to work through. The ambience gives zealous modern Italian opulence in the pun-iest way and is extremely cute. Fun fancy date night spot all in all.

New(er) Italian restaurant in Beverly Hills that I had come across and added to the list of places I must try. Made a reservation and headed over. First, ambiance, very welcoming and frenetic, in a good way. Plenty of staff everywhere and everyone is willing to help you out and attend to your needs. We were seated right away and started off with cocktails. The Mai Tai was decent, really didn't stand out to be honest. In terms of food, we began with the Roasted Garlic Babka and the Dressed Kumamoto Oysters. The babka was like a croissant type bread, very soft and flaky, really flavorful but in the shape of a loaf. Hard to really describe and it was worth it! The oysters had a cherry pepper mignonette on top which gave them a pop of added flavor which was a nice touch. And the filet mignon meatballs were delicious. The grated grana padano had a crispiness to it, adding a little texture from, I'm guessing, being broiled quickly, with fresh cheese grated on the top for presentation. Just a great bite. I'd say in my top five meatballs in Los Angeles. For entrees we ordered the Spicy Lobster and the Agnolotti Bistecca. The Bistecca was ok, really tasted under seasoned to us, but it's stuffed with filet mignon and has a sweet balsamic glaze. The spicy lobster is served with campanelle pasta and calabrian chili, and is prepared for you, with a show, table side. This was actually very good, great flavor throughout, and comes with a whole lobster tail and the meat from two claws. Great entree. Finally, for dessert, I had seen these lemon type dishes coming out, and assumed it was the lemon cheesecake, so ordered that. So creative, so delicious and so much fun. It's a lemon cheesecake, molded in to the shape of a lemon with an outer layer shell, sitting on a bed of crushed graham crackers. You crack/cut in to the "lemon" while getting some of the graham cracker crust to assemble your bite. Just perfection. Chef's kiss! Overall, new Italian addition to Beverly Hills and Los Angeles as a whole, and a quality addition at that. Drinks were ok, not necessarily the place I would go for a congrats but not bad either. Get the babka and meatballs for sure, as well as the spicy lobster. The oysters if you're really wanting oysters but you can skip the agnolotti. And absolutely try the lemon cheesecake!

We were lucky enough to snag two spots at the bar, and it ended up being the best seat in the house! Our bartender (I wish I remembered his name) was incredibly kind, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for. It was packed, lively, energetic, and full of great vibes. The cocktails were a highlight! The Pepperoncini Martini and the Amalfi Diet drinks were so unique, fun, and absolutely delicious. The 'Roni & Ranch was the perfect appetizer and one of our favorite bites of the night. Honestly, we could have stayed there for hours just enjoying the food, drinks, and atmosphere. If you're looking for an upbeat spot with amazing cocktails, delicious food, and fantastic service, this is it. Highly recommend!

Our first time at Bad Roman was a winner. We sat at the bar and first ordered a martini. It was served in beautiful glassware and was the biggest martini I've ever seen. Beware if you have more than one! For dinner we ordered the Faroe Island salmon which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The pasta mafaldine is tasty but rather plain. The side of sautéed baby spinach was delicious. The bartender provided outstanding service, and was fun to chat with. The atmosphere is swanky with beautiful chandeliers and nice lighting. You feel wowed the minute you walk in. Highly recommend!

Loved loved loved Bad Roman. There are so many good things to say, it could be called Good Roman. I didn't know it's only been open less than two months and there are certainly things that will get better but I loved what they have going on so far. Which is a lively atmosphere. Good cocktails (eventually they will be great) and fantastic food. My server was Robert and props to him. We had a great experience and would be treated to be served by him anytime. He had great recommendations and his honesty with his thoughts was spot on. It was a Thursday night and it was packed. We weee sat in the back part of the place so conversation was easier at our table. However if you want the scene and the vibe make sure you're seated in the front room. Next time I will be for sure. We started with table garlic bread that was a good start and definitely didn't want to fill up on it. I tried a nice spicy tequila cocktail. It was made with a habenero shaved ice. It was good but not anything I'd repeat all night. So I opted for a Lalo old fashioned that I drank the rest of the night. The bartender was consistent which is key because they were delicious. We got the spicy Cesar salad, hamachi crudo to start and those dishes were both excellent. We shared everything. Family style. There was four of us and we order three pastas, two mains and three desserts. No one left hungry. And there weren't really leftovers. The Cacio E Pepe with shaved truffle was the best thing I ate for the pastas. We had a filet stuff pasta and the tomato base Arabist's pasta also. But the cacio was so good we ordered a second with our mains. For the mains we had the Wagyu New York and the Branzino. I'm not a big New York fan so it was fine. But the branzino was perfection. We also got spinach and fries on the side. For dessert we had the panna cotta, the chocolate cake and what I loved the deconstructed lemon cheesecake. When I go back it will be hard to try something different but I will. And I can't wait to get back for more Bad Roman.

This place was dope! I really enjoyed the architecture and art of this dining establishment. The bartenders Eli, Harvey, & Nate were super cool and made great suggestions. They even let us sample a couple of the cocktails since they are pre-made. The pepperoni cups were good, but my friend was not enjoying them since the pepperonis were cured. The ricotta with honey was amazing. The oysters were good, but I didn't appreciate the oysters being different sizes when they were the same type of oyster. It's dangerous that my new office is right across from this place. LOL! I am definitely probably going to become a regular shortly.

The Table is small so Hoover the food which is easy.

Caligula, Nero, Claudius, Incitatus were all bad Romans except for Incitatus because he was a horse and Mario who was an excellent Server at Bad Roman. Creep through the traffic in Beverly Hills, until you get to the tile wall with a Neon Snake and Bad Roman displayed. It's really should be Good Roman (no, make that Great Roman). Enter, look around. It's everything Las Vegas wishes it was. Ritzy and glitzy from the open ceiling to the closed reservation book because they're often fully committed on Open Table. The dining room is flashy and panache-y but inviting and comfortable. The pumpin' thumpin' loop is absorbed by your second Double Pour Martini. At 5:00 Pm it's time to take Mom and Pop out for a treat. By 8:00 PM the battle at Monte Cassino was quieter. The Vibe: This is where you hang when you've arrived, the charges got dropped, they bought your script, and the high flyer equities you took a plunge into will now allow you pay off all three mortgages. Everyone was totally hip along with a few hip replacements. Small touches count. A Salt Cellar with Maldon Flaky Finishing Salt and a small hefty Pepper Grinder are on the table for use at your discretion. It all makes you feel good to be here and plan a return even before you order and that's even before you try your first loaf of marvelous Garlic Pesto Babka. The Bar: Way cool and hot at the same time. The beautiful people are stacked up 3 deep with LA's fickle foodies, someone on a Hinge binge, and Bad Roman regulars that make up a convivial crowd without any one feeling crowded. A generous pour of Signature Cocktails, Classics, a Curated Wine List all let you to blame the Bad Ass Bad Roman Bartenders when you're blowing into the breathalyser at the Sobriety Check. Despite being mostly off booze I was tempted by the Martini Pepperoncini. "Hello, my name is Ron and I am a back sliding weakling when it comes to a good Martini". And that's what this was with Oak Leaf Cluster. I am guilt free for having had it. The Bad Ombre was short and to the point A wannabe Whiskey Sour that was easily drinkable (said I after a polite sip). The Staff: Mario was a Pro from the jump. Bright fellow, he was, knowledgeable, and just enough Mario tableside to curate a fabuloso dining experience. Brother Mario knew when to take charge and when to take a powder. He enhanced the whole adventure. The Food: Dannatamente buono. The Garlic Bread Babka was positively brilliant. Served hot, a soft interior with a river of Pesto running through it. Redolent of Garlic all encased in a Parmesan Cheese dusted crust. Order two and I defy you to leave a crumb behind. The Crispy Calamari Casino was a basket of Calamari Fritti which were battered tubular slices, deep fried and dotted with specks of Speak (Bacon), a drizzle of Lemon Juice and a drip of Marinara Sauce. Eat'em while they're hot and before they become soggyfied. No problem, I inhaled them. The Spicy Caesar gradually offered up it's heat. Toasted Bread Crumbs stood in for Croutons. All in all this Caesar had a right to preside over the Roman Senate. The semi-main event was a Grilled Pork Double Cut Chop served with a meaty Rib. The Pork was sweet, perhaps from a Maple or Brown Sugar Glaze, but not too sweet. It was tender and running with juice as a Pork Chop cooked just right should be. No mystery chew, no gristle, no sinew, no cartilage, and no strings attached. The Chop was settled onto a bed of Roasted Escarole. Let the juices saturate the greenery first, then enjoy it. A very clever presentation indeed. As soon as the heat quiets down a bit go feral on that bone. The show stopper was the Grilled Butterflied Branzino. It was cooked as good as anyone can cook Fish. It was served spread Eagle on a bed of Salsa Verde and fresh Lemon Quarters to squeeze over the delicate filets before you. The Fish was translucent and transcendent and had me desperate for a third Garlic Bread Babka to sop up everything that slipped off my fork. Cooking Fish they well separates the true Professionals from the occasionally lucky home cooks. Mario lobbied for the Lemon Cheesecake and boy, was he right for which I remain grateful. The "Lemons" were really pastel colored White Chocolate illusions. Crack into them and find Lemon Panna Cotta. Questo e stato fantastico. It didn't hurt to add two ample scoops of Blood Orange Sorbetto. No more roamin' round town looking for killer Italian. My roamin' days ended at Bad Roman.

I am so happy to say that Bad Roman lives up to ALL of the hype! We had an incredible dinner there with friends, and everything was amazing, from the decor, to the food, to the service. The menu is amazing and has lots of options! Let's start by listing all the delicious food - the Cesar salad was delicious (heavy on the cheese), the whipped ricotta was heavenly, the garlic babka was out of control, the fried eggplant was hefty, and all the pastas and proteins we got were amazing. The dessert was some of the best I've had. Highly recommend the sorbet and the lemon! Service was great too. Our waiters and all the staff were incredible. Only notes: It's super cold inside. I think they could use some gluten free and vegan options. Also, they do cook the lobster pasta tableside. This may be a concern for anyone with an airborne shellfish allergy, and the smell does linger. Otherwise, can't wait to go back!!!

Spectacular Vibe they got going on. From the moment you walk in, you will be impressed. This place has a unique & funky style of decor that pairs very well with the upbeat energy inside. The appetizers I ordered for myself were nothing short of delicious. The salmon sashimi plate was INSANELY GOOOD. It honestly blew me away & I would surely order it again next time i come. It is super citrusy but also very sweet. The thin jalepeno slices are a great touch as well. The oyesters were so great & fresh. They come already dressed up with toppings so you don't have to stress too much about that lol. The server was super helpful & kind. Loved the whole experience.

My friend decided to come to Bad Roman for dinner yesterday but we didn't make a reservation so he went there earlier around 5:30pm to get a table but it is very popular so we got a spot at the bar The bar is quite nice as well if you and your friends are waiting for the table or just walk in and that's a solution while waiting We had our dinner at the bar since it was full house last night We ordered two sides and two main courses and couple drinks for pairing My friend had one dirty martini and three glasses of red wine and I had one white wine We had meat balls and asparagus for the sides. The asparagus is drizzled with acid sauce so it is quite tasty to have it in summer Meat balls were delicious, too. The Cacio e Pepe is not impressed and I didn't taste the smell of the pepper but the penne is very special with the longer form Branzino was very tasty and the green paste was really refreshing which tasted very similar as chimichurri sauce and we loved it The dessert we had tiramisu ice cream cake and it was amazing ! Definitely recommend to try it The whole vibe of the restaurant is good After sunset the music was playing and the feeling was so right It is a nice place to have a date or a birthday celebration dinner Note: valet parking is available and street parking and other garage parking are available as well

Bad Roman had been on my list for a while, and it lived up to the hype overall. The space is lively and fun, with a trendy atmosphere that makes it a great spot for a night out. Parking was fairly easy to find, they also have valet. The dishes were flavorful, well-executed, and perfect for sharing, service was good as well. It is definitely on the pricier side, but that's pretty much what I expected given the location, so it wasn't a surprise. I'd come back for the experience and to try a few more things from the menu, especially with a group.

    Anthony K.

The interior is vibrant, and perfectly lit, making it an incredible spot for a fun night out. However, the food is just fine, and it doesn't live up to the hype or premium price tag. Service is equally average. Go for a drink to soak in the spectacular vibe, but lower your expectations for the meal.

Service was fine, but nothing special. We were greeted, seated and the waitress took our orders. Once the food arrived, our waitress barely came by again except towards the end to drop off our check. Other staff did come by to clear our empty plates from the table, so that was nice. We did notice that they only provided 1 serving spoon for all of our dishes. Would've liked a serving utensil with each dish to minimize cross-contamination and mixing of flavors. Throughout our dining, there were flies and small bugs flying around, which was off-putting and annoying as we had to keep swatting them away from landing on our food. 1. Farmhouse Beet Salad (5/5) It's a good thing this was the 1st dish to arrive at our table as it left a good 1st impression. The roasted organic beets were fresh and had that earthy-tone to it. Dressed with their lemon-oregano vinaigrette, feta, arugula, and candied pecans. OMG, those candied pecans were heavenly. It's crunchy and toasted to perfection. the candied flavor of it was addictingly delicious. If they have a menu item of candied pecans, I'll order it any day. 2. Trio Taco (2.5/5) You can choose between chicken, steak, shrimp, plant-based chicken, or jackfruit. We opted for steak. The steak was fine, but for BBQ sauce used was just a dish killer. They need to rethink the choice of sauce used in these tacos. Also, not a fan of corn tortilla. Wish they gave a choice between corn and flour tortilla. 3. Artisan Bread & Butter (5/5) Their sourdough bread sliced, grilled and brushed generously with garlic olive oil. Severed with a side of whipped duckfat butter. I've never had duck fat butter before, so this was a pleasant experience to try. Not to worry, there's no duck flavor at all. It's almost like cream cheese but lighter and airer. 4. Ahi Filet (1.5/5) Sesame-crusted ahi with a side wasabi aioli. The ahi was so-so; definitely, not the freshest and there's no "melt-in-your mouth" joy. The wasabi aioli sauce was good though. There is a subtle spice kick from the wasabi. It's served with a side of soba noodles that was gingery and peanuty in flavor. Unfortunately, the noodles were overcooked as they stuck to each other in clumps. 5. Bacon & Blue Burger (4.5/5) Quite a satisfying burger consisting of wagyu beef, duroc bacon, aged blue cheese, caramelized onions, and arugula. It's juicy, meaty, slightly tangy from the horseradish aioli and sweet from the port wine reduction. The brioche bun was pleasantly soft. 6. Thai Ginger Salad (3/5) This salad consists of romaine lettuce as the base. It is dressed with Thai sesame dressing, which was underwhelming. The toppings for this salad include fresh mango cubes, slaw, slices of avocado, fresh peanut bits, tomato and soba noodles. It's not a bad salad, but for the price, I do not think it is worth it. 7. Superfood Longevity Salad (4/5) A salad consisting of mixed greens (lacinato kale and spring mix) with a variety of rich, nutritious toppings (organic beets, quinoa, pomegranate, radish, blueberries, almonds, dried Bing cherries, and pepitas). The dressing is a sherry vinaigrette that's tangy, creamy and light. All the ingredients came together well. If you are looking for a hearty salad, this is for you. 8. Hibiscus Rosé (4/5) Sparkling rosé with hibiscus flavor infused with grapefruit skin to give it a bit of citrus note and topped off with a micro flower to add a special touch of decor to the drink. In summary, the food looks better than it actually tastes. Come here if you want to eat out with a large party for celebration, but otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it for a special night out as the price does not justify the experience.

Darling was on my list to try ever since I read about it on Eater. It eventually became one of 2…read morerestaurants that were the focus of my recent staycation in the West Hollywood/Beverly Grove area, the other was perennial favourite A.O.C. I was familiar with chef/owner (and James Beard Award winner) Sean Brock, having dined at two of his Husk restaurants (Charleston and Nashville), where he first gained fame and accolades. He is no longer affiliated with Husk or some other Nashville restaurants, but still has a pizza place there, so he is still bi-coastal. I can't say what drew him to SoCal, but is clearly enamored of our bountiful produce and purveyors, which he integrates into his "Heritage Southern", often live-fire, cooking. He's apparently quite a music lover also, hence the live DJ all-vinyl booth in the bar/lounge. Darling is on the northern end of Robertson between Melrose and Sunset. Many restaurants of note are nearby, including The Abbey, Craig's, SushiSamba. Many, including Darling, do not have valet parking, so that can be an endeavor you should allow time for. Darling is a pretty large, gorgeous and airy space, divided into an open-air-ish lounge/bar and a dining room towards the rear, which in turn is divided into 2 sections. The space used be the restaurant Soulmate, and looking at old pics still up on Yelp, it is clear many of the design features were repurposed for Darling, including the beautiful wood-beamed ceiling and booths in the dining room, the olive tree and retractable roof in the lounge, and the exterior. The impressive mural in the dining room appears new, as is the DJ booth. The weather was in the 90's during my visits, so the more A/C-controlled dining room was my choice for seating. Darling serves dinner Wed-Sat and brunch Sundays, so of course I had to try both. There's also a small Happy Hour menu Wed-Sat in the lounge/bar. Here's the lowdown: Dinner 1) Deviled eggs. A classic Southern snack, bougied up with bluefin tuna belly. Delish, with a slight kick, but just 2 per order. 2) Abalone and rice stew. Another winner (and smallish portion). Earthy, yet light, topped with a confit egg yolk. 3) The Darling dry-aged steak burger. Just 24 served per day. The stellar meat is a blend of 3 types of beef, mostly dry-aged prime, cooked over the live-fire grill. It was served simply with ketchup, cheese, raw onion and Dijonnaise , allowing the beef to shine. Served without accompaniments. 4) Sliced tomatoes with buttermilk dressing and tomato vine vinegar. A simple and refreshing taste of summer. 5) Blackberry sorbet Eton mess. Delish sorbet that was the perfect blend of sweet and tart. Eton mess is whipped cream and meringue shards. The Texas deer skewers and Anson Mills cornbread were also of interest to me; another time. Brunch 1) Sonora wheat pancakes. Pretty classic, with crispy edges, fancy Maison Bordier butter and maple syrup. 2) 5-fat fried chicken. Also available on the Happy Hour menu. I was told the chicken was heavily spiced, but not heat-spicy. Its red-orange hue made me pause with fear, but it was exactly as described. The seasoning is quite chili powder-forward (Ancho chili?). The chicken is boneless thigh meat (my fave chicken part), just like the Spanish fried chicken at A.O.C. Served with a vinegary hot sauce (didn't use), honey (used it all) and an assortment of pickles. The 5 fats used are chicken fat, lard, country ham, bacon fat and smoked butter. Quite different from A.O.C.'s version; apples and oranges. Try them both. 3) Watermelon sorbet with Bonny melon and lemon verbena. Another sorbet winner, even more refreshing with the melon. Their cocktail and wine offerings seem pretty extensive. My zero-proof pineapple concoction was fine and delish; I had it at both meals. Service and staff was excellent and oh so friendly--hostess, servers, busboys, manager. I wish I remembered the names of my servers for shout-outs; their names didn't appear on my checks. Speaking of checks, you have the option of paying via QR code or with a traditional paper check and table-side hand-held gizmo. I did both and recommend the traditional method to avoid the $3.99 "Platform Fee" for using the QR code. Lastly, I found the music pleasant and mostly retro (the DJ usually puts the album currently spinning on display), but very loud. Guests were yelling in order to converse. Hope to return, and maybe see Chef Sean DJ-ing.

We came here on a suggestion from a friend who is a fan of Sean Brock. The setup is really cool -…read morethe front half of the restaurant is a lounge/bar area with a partially open air roof that gives way to a tree growing in the middle of the lounge. The back half is a more traditional seating area with booths and beautiful murals. The restaurant has an interesting and creative cocktail list that was difficult to choose from. We tried the Paradis and Marigny No. 2. I preferred the Paradis - it was reminiscent of a tropical tiki drink. The Marigny No. 2 was also nice, floral, and refreshing, but strong. Our waitress recommended 2-3 dishes per person, so we opted for the deviled eggs (snack), cornbread (app), dry-aged steak burger (main), and rockfish with clams and grits (main). The deviled eggs and rockfish were my favorite. The eggs had a really rich flavor, and the tuna added a unique twist on an otherwise familiar dish. The rockfish had a perfectly spicy, buttery sauce, and the grits were the perfect accompaniment. I wasn't a fan of the cornbread; the predominant taste was of being burned, and the bread was flat and dense, rather than being fluffy. The tomato jam was definitely the surprisingly sweet star of that dish. Without the jam, the cornbread isn't very pleasant to eat. I also thought the burger was just ok, nothing standout, but solid. They only make 24 burgers a night, so ask your server if they're still available if that's what you're ordering. For dessert, we ordered the profiteroles with brown butter ice cream, pecan sauce, and dates. It was a perfect ending to the night - the dessert was super rich and decadent. Parking is limited to metered street parking or nearby parking lots. Service is warm and friendly without being overbearing, but can take a while. Overall, the experience was pleasant with some hits and some misses. The menu is certainly unique and overall worth trying if you're feeling a bit adventurous.

And, Miami. And even at the marinas in San Diego, San Francisco, and Sausalito. The Henry is very large and open, yet, with all the light streaming in, the soft blues and greys keep the atmosphere sophisticated, subdued, and cool. You immediately feel the calm and these days, especially in the city, we can use a good deal of decompressing. It was almost an audible "aaaahhhhh" that my brain whispered when we sat down at our roomy booth. We were there for brunch and the menu was wonderful for me, a lifelong vegetarian. There were multiple items I wanted to try but I usually stick to an appetizer, main, dessert, and beverage. I am not a big eater at one sitting. Between us, everything we ordered was superb. The descriptions were pretty familiar, but the tastes were elevated. And the presentations were unique too -- see my photos. Michael, our server, was efficient but warm and friendly too. That makes such a difference. From beginning to end he took care of us, checking occasionally to get our enthusiastic thumbs-up, and then bringing us sturdy containers and a roomy thick shopping bag to take home the leftovers. We stuffed ourselves but still took home half of the generous portions we were given. The tab was beyond reasonable too, especially for Beverly Hills! Nice music -- not too loud, just enough to give a cheerful vibe in the background; clean appointments; quality furnishings; giant spotless windows; pretty wallcoverings; comfortable seating -- everything was just right, Goldilocks-worthy. This is the kind of place to return to again and again. Garage parking at the complex for $15 was so easy, clean surroundings in the neighborhood with some famous retail nearby for browsing, just 40 minutes from home. IOW, perfect!

Or you can pay $15 for the lot that's right behind it. I got the Fish Tacos and it was $30 for 2 sad little tacos and a side of quinoa rice. My friend got the harvest salad, added chicken, and a coke. For all that it was almost an $80 lunch. Insane pricing. This place is cute but not $80 cute.

Unfortunately, my experience landed more in the "it was fine" category than memorable fine dining. The evening started promisingly with cocktails and beautifully presented small bites. Presentation throughout dinner was polished, and there's no question that a lot of thought goes into how everything arrives at the table. The bread service was elaborate and visually impressive, and several of the smaller bites were interesting. But as the meal progressed, I kept waiting for that one dish that would make me understand the hype. The truffle pizza certainly looked luxurious--and they weren't shy with the truffles--but even that didn't deliver the knockout flavor I expected. It was good. Just...good. At this level, I was expecting something I'd still be talking about the next day. That's really how I felt about the overall meal. Nothing was necessarily bad. The ingredients seemed high quality, the plating was sophisticated, and the experience had all the elements of upscale dining. It simply didn't translate into food that excited me. And when you're dining at a restaurant with Spago's reputation, "just okay" feels more disappointing than it would somewhere else. Service and atmosphere were polished, but ultimately I'm reviewing the entire experience relative to the expectations and price point. I'm glad I finally experienced Spago for myself, but would I rush back? Probably not. There are too many exceptional restaurants where I've left genuinely excited about what I just ate.

Hmm... where do I start?…read more I was interested in booking one of their private dining rooms, so I reached out well in advance. I have to say the communication leading up to the event was pretty disappointing. I sent emails, called multiple times, and often got no response. I eventually found out that only certain people handled private event bookings, but getting in touch with them was a challenge. Every time I called the hotel, I was told they had sent the events team a message. Even after I finally secured the reservation and paid the deposit, I still had questions that went unanswered. In fact, some of them weren't addressed until the night before the event, which was pretty stressful when you're trying to coordinate a special occasion. For a hotel that markets itself as a luxury 5-star property, I honestly expected much better communication and customer service. The booking process definitely did not feel like a 5-star experience. That said, once the day of the event arrived, everything went much more smoothly. The service during dinner was good, and the staff took care of us well. We had a prix fixe menu for our guests. I had the steak, which was cooked really well, and the tiramisu was a nice way to end the meal. Most importantly, everyone had a great time, which is what mattered in the end. One tip if you're planning to come here: there's an underground public parking garage right next to the hotel that's much cheaper than using the valet. Overall, the food and service on the day of the event helped make up for a lot of the frustration beforehand. I just wish the communication and event planning process matched the standard that The Maybourne advertises.
