When I first joined Yelp, in 2008, I had no idea why I would post anything. I soon realized this is my way of Yelping to Help. Help who? The hospitality industry and other consumers. So, now, during these difficult times for almost everyone, that mission seems even more important. For this reason, I have made it a point to cover a wide range of venues, from low to high and after 300 reviews, I can say with some satisfaction that I have done that consistently. Now I am turning in a slightly different direction, mostly to make myself happy first and foremost. There is enough ugliness in the world. I want to surround myself everywhere I go in beauty, kindness, and comfort. That will be the aim of my reviews for the rest of this year. Along these lines, I have been lucky enough to visit a glittering sequence of gorgeous, uplifting, exceptional places in the past month or two. Many of them are in Beverly Hills. I am not interested in the prestige of BH at all. My selection of places in one of Los Angeles's choicest "villages" is based on several factors: ease of parking (BH has low cost public garages on almost every block); aesthetics of the venue itself, both outside and inside; ingenuity and novelty of the offerings (menus; merchandise; entertainment, etc.); and cost/benefit ratio, i.e., value for the time and money spent. Beverly Hills offers all of this in one easily accessible spot and has made it possible to navigate their enjoyment during these stressful times with ease. Which brings me to The Terrace. Just one look at all the photographs I and other diners have shared and you immediately grasp the beauty, care, intelligence, creativity, and high standards The Maybourne team has applied to this delightful outdoor restaurant. The service, menu, quality of each dish and beverage, and the lovely decor and appointments complete the experience. For me, it was like some of the most elegant spots I have enjoyed in Europe, especially Italy and France. A visit to The Terrace is like a trip to the Mediterranean, especially since Beverly Hills is blessed with exceptional weather most of the year. I want to acknowledge Marianna in reception for her warm and friendly welcome. Then, Charlie and a roster of other people attended to us as if we were royalty. We felt simultaneously at home and at a banquet in Monaco! When we arrived and as we left, we were acknowledged and appreciated, as few places know how to do. I cannot think of one thing that could have been better. We loved every minute of it, in fact two hours flew by, and now we cannot wait to return. Pamper yourself by lingering over a meal in this glorious courtyard garden. It will elevate your spirits and we can all use that, right about now. read more

The Terrace at The Maybourne is truly one of my favorite spots in Beverly Hills! I visit at least once a month, and it never disappoints. Whether I'm stopping by for their lovely happy hour or enjoying a leisurely lunch, the experience is always wonderful. The lamb chops are absolutely delicious and one of my favorites! I also love their branzino, which is beautifully prepared, and their pasta dishes are equally delightful. The setting is simply beautiful. Such a charming, peaceful little escape right in the heart of Beverly Hills. It's the perfect place to slow down, enjoy a delicious meal, and soak in the lovely atmosphere. And of course, the staff deserves special recognition. The service is consistently warm, attentive, and welcoming, which is one of the many reasons I keep returning. Beautiful Setting, but the Overall Experience Fell Short The Terrace at The Maybourne offers a beautiful atmosphere in the heart of Beverly Hills, but unfortunately, the overall dining experience didn't quite live up to my expectations. While the food was alright and the service was decent, neither stood out enough to justify the high prices. It feels like you're paying more for the location and ambiance than for the actual quality of the food and service. For a restaurant at this price point, I expected a little more attention to detail and a more memorable dining experience. There are several other restaurants nearby in Beverly Hills that offer better value for the same price. Overall, it's a lovely setting, and I would give it a 4 out of 5, but I left feeling a bit underwhelmed. Today I treated my best friend to high tea at the Meybourne Hotel and it didn't disappoint The tea has a very special celebrity fashion twist, with the final dessert offering of bespoke suites based off of different fashion icons. We enjoyed the quality of all of the food items as well as the tea that we had a choice of choosing from. There was so much food that they had the most adorable to go boxes for us to take home the bespoke desserts. This was located in the beautiful Terrace Restaurant and the decor and service was exceptional I definitely recommend doing this for a special occasion and recommend parking at the adjacent Canon Gardens lot versus valet at the hotel. Hmm... where do I start? I was interested in booking one of their private dining rooms, so I reached out well in advance. I have to say the communication leading up to the event was pretty disappointing. I sent emails, called multiple times, and often got no response. I eventually found out that only certain people handled private event bookings, but getting in touch with them was a challenge. Every time I called the hotel, I was told they had sent the events team a message. Even after I finally secured the reservation and paid the deposit, I still had questions that went unanswered. In fact, some of them weren't addressed until the night before the event, which was pretty stressful when you're trying to coordinate a special occasion. For a hotel that markets itself as a luxury 5-star property, I honestly expected much better communication and customer service. The booking process definitely did not feel like a 5-star experience. That said, once the day of the event arrived, everything went much more smoothly. The service during dinner was good, and the staff took care of us well. We had a prix fixe menu for our guests. I had the steak, which was cooked really well, and the tiramisu was a nice way to end the meal. Most importantly, everyone had a great time, which is what mattered in the end. One tip if you're planning to come here: there's an underground public parking garage right next to the hotel that's much cheaper than using the valet. Overall, the food and service on the day of the event helped make up for a lot of the frustration beforehand. I just wish the communication and event planning process matched the standard that The Maybourne advertises. read more

The house bread tastes like brioche with buttery flavor, good combination with coffee. They provided crayons and coloring books to my kid, very nice service. As a near regular at this location, I expected more and was quite disappointed today, and am sorry I have to bring my review down so many notches. Service was slow, they assumed we wanted everything at once, and some of the food was subpar and definitely not on point. Because we asked for our "breads" after 30 minutes just to get started, they though we suddenly wanted everything (our breads being scones and a cinnamon roll). We should have stated or they should have asked, would you like us to bring everything out at once or the small plates first. First miss. Eggs Benedict was bland, under seasoned, and english muffins like two plastic frisbees. Second miss. Slow service and attitude of server not the friendliest, third miss. Table service was slow/inattentive. We had to ask for silverware on more than one occasion. Service seemed somewhat more disorganized than usual (it's usually a little disorganized, not always great). I'm taking this, unfortunately, off my go to/recommended list as it's become inconsistent and no longer worth taking chances on for the service and food. read more

We ubered here but the parking looks difficult; would recommend parking at the free Beverly Hills lots and walking over. The steak frites was okay, it was a little bit tough and even with the sauce it lacked flavor. The fries were also okay, but were too soft / large in my opinion... The servers were kind, but it was quite a slow experience. I think I would've enjoyed more if we came for a casual lunch, but I was in a rush to get back to work which made the experience not as fun :( read more

I always forget that the Terrace at The Maybourne Beverly Hills is such a beautiful spot for a leisurely lunch, especially when you want that polished Beverly Hills feeling without anything feeling overly stiff. The setting is lush, elegant, and wonderfully peaceful, with the terrace overlooking the gardens and pool area. We randomly ended up here after being in the hot sun shopping Beverly Hills. Such a nice relief. We started with the bread, which was simple but delicious, then had the strawberry gazpacho, a refreshing and unexpected summer dish that felt light, bright, and beautifully presented. The corn agnolotti was a standout, rich and delicate with that perfect balance of sweetness from the corn and savory depth in the sauce. The bolognese was comforting and satisfying, a classic done well, and the Caesar salad was fresh, crisp, and but not presented as a traditional Caesar. It is two romaine wedges. We ended with the chocolate mousse and it was a lot of food. Maybe better to share as the portions are generous. The food, atmosphere, and service made it feel like a true Beverly Hills escape. This place is located inside The Maybourne Hotel. There is a valet parking (though it's expensive, even with it being validated). There is a public parking garage right next door if you want to try that first. Service is warm and friendly. Everyone was so nice, attentive and helpful. We were able to sit outside thanks to making reservations online the night before. It's a very relaxing, welcoming and intimate setting. Started with the complimentary monkey bread -- it is so soft and fluffy and the topping is pure deliciousness. I think it's the butterscotch topping that goes with their popular pancakes. The monkey bread was wonderful! Ordered the pancake with butterscotch and it does not disappoint. $ large, hot pancakes drenched in butterscotch and a nice big disk of butter. It also comes with maple syrup and more butter and 3 different types of jam. Very nice Got the Hobbs smoked pastrami which comes with 2 poached eggs. Very solid, hearty and filling breakfast. Wonderful sourdough toast, sauteed green and red peppers with red onions and generous slices of pastrami. Also comes with perfectly crisp baby potatoes - so good. Ordered the fruit platter as well and the pineapple was the sweetest of the fruits. The rest were less sweet and only ok as they are not really in season - raspberry, blackberry, blueberries, strawberries, apples, honeydew, watermelon and cantaloupe. They all looked pristine, but just not sweet o r ripe just yet. I assume in summer, it'd be amazing! The Best Parts: 1. Outside seating is beautiful. Then again, you're essentially enjoying Beverly Cañon Gardens, which is a public park so you can enjoy the atmosphere without being a patron of the restaurant. 2. Staff is very professional and nice. There were some order mistakes but because the staff was constantly checking in, all the mistakes were corrected relatively quick. The menu is expansive and I liked that during weekend brunch time, you could still order non-brunch/breakfast items. But everything just tasted o-k. Also, wish they'd swap out the chairs with regular dining chairs. Either the chairs are too high or the tables are short. I don't really do this but we had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. My family had been dining there yesterday for about an hour, and I arrived later because I was finishing a business meeting. Shortly after I sat down, the manager approached us and made us feel like we needed to leave. His attitude was rude, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional. Instead of politely explaining the situation or treating us like valued customers, he made our family feel unwelcome and rushed. For a restaurant in Beverly Hills, I expected much better hospitality and customer service. A manager should know how to speak to guests with respect, regardless of how long they have been seated. I had breakfast at this restaurant and can confidently say it was one of the worst breakfast experiences in Los Angeles. We ordered the truffle eggs Benedict and the croque madame, and calling the meal disappointing would be an understatement. The presentation alone looked careless and unappetizing -- shocking for dishes at this price point. When you charge $40 for eggs Benedict, expectations naturally rise. One expects not only quality ingredients and flavor, but refinement and attention to detail. Instead, what arrived looked rushed and poorly executed. The croque madame was somehow even more baffling: the egg managed to be both undercooked and overcooked at the same time -- a culinary contradiction I didn't think was possible. The textures were off, the balance was unpleasant, and nothing on the plate justified the premium pricing. And to complete the experience, the restaurant automatically adds a 20% service charge to the bill, regardless of the quality of service or food. We stopped in for breakfast because we had business in the area. Food was just mediocre for the price. Omelette was overcooked, not traditional like I expected. Kids had pancakes, they are hard to mess up, it was ok. You can tell the service judges you and it was just ok until I paid my bill with cash and all the sudden we see smiles. Definitely the best pancakes I ever had. They are also famous for their monkey bread which was incredible. Their Croque Madame wasn't anything special. It looked interesting but the taste wasn't there. The grilled prawns were well seasoned and were displayed nicely. I was surprised by how good their Skirt Steak is. I've dined at The Maybourne several times, and the other hosts and staff have always been amazing. Unfortunately, this particular manager has consistently been unwelcoming and dismissive. On my last visit, he made me wait without acknowledging me. Later, after my small dog barked on the outdoor terrace, he shouted at me in front of other guests, told me I was banned, and said he would call security if I came back. I had already paid my bill. The entire interaction was humiliating and completely unnecessary. For a luxury hotel, this is not the level of hospitality I expected. Everything about The Terrace at the Maybourne Hotel was fantastic on my recent visit. You can sit inside or outside. We chose outside as it was a beautiful evening, and the seating area is situated in a green park-like area surrounded by trees. Our server David could not have been more professional, helpful or friendly. He answered all our questions about the menu and the cocktails and helped us decide what to order. Everything we had was outstanding. The beet salad was a work of art, with golden, red and rainbow beets beautifully presented along with dates and walnuts. The whole branzino was perfectly cooked with crispy skin, and served with a grilled lemon. The duck was some of the best we've had, not fatty or greasy but rather plump and meaty. The old fashioned cocktail was made with pandan, which is a SE Asian leaf. The pandan gave it a unique flavor. I love the use of unusual ingredients. We had such a great experience at The Terrace at the Maybourne on Easter Sunday. It already felt special being there, but the service made it even better and really welcoming. They had the Easter bunny come to take photos with the kids and handed out eggs. Val was our server and was great, and Maya, who was helping her, was honestly amazing. She was so attentive and just always on top of everything. I don't think she stopped moving once the whole time we were there. She was constantly checking in, refilling drinks, clearing plates, and making sure everything felt smooth without ever interrupting the moment. The food was also so good, we loved the chilaquiles and the cinnamon roll was definitely a favorite. Everything came out perfect and the whole experience just felt easy and enjoyable. Our water glass arrived dirty, and when I asked for a clean one, the waiter brought a replacement, filled it with water, and then left it on the other side of the table where no one was even sitting instead of handing it to me. When we asked about options for kids, the waiter only mentioned chicken nuggets and French fries, despite the restaurant having a large menu with plenty of choices. It honestly felt like she had no knowledge of the menu at all. Throughout our visit, she barely paid attention while taking our order and seemed completely disengaged. The restaurant was only half full, yet we waited an unreasonably long time for our food. When it finally arrived, it tasted like something from a cheap café, not a restaurant charging premium prices. Considering the location and prices, I expected professional service and high-quality food. Instead, we received poor service, long wait times, and disappointing food. I can't begin to tell you what an amazing and delicious brunch experience. We enjoyed yesterday at The Terrace. Every single item that we ordered was amazingly delicious. The most unique item on the menu is there rendition of hashbrowns, which were deliciously fried and mixed with quinoa amongst other ingredients. The butter itself is different from any other restaurant I've been to in Los Angeles. The gym is a special French Preserve that is unparalleled. Sitting outside allowed us to enjoy the beautiful weather in the Beverly Hills area and our server was incredibly informative and available. Definitely going back here, hope to see you ! I was visiting LA for the Oscars and decided to dine at The Terrace (my first time). The waiter was rude and acted like he was a celebrity. The breakfast was cold; the hash was hard as a rock. The waiter belonged at Denny's, not in a Beverly Hills restaurant. I dined at three world-class restaurants on my trip, and they were all on top of their game. Even after I filled out their survey and complained, I never received a response. It was like f-you, pay me. The Terrace was disappointing. The one star is for the decor.
