We just arrived into OCMD from Philly(3 hour drive). Our place was not ready so we decided to grab a late lunch. This place is dog friendly, so we brought our chihuahuas up onto the deck. I've only ever gone for brunch, but can't wait to try it for dinner. Today when my family and I went, a 45-minute wait turned into just over 10 minutes! We were immediately served and started off our breakfast with the complimentary monkey bread, which is the perfect start to any experience. It's always fresh, warm, and gooey - some of the best I've ever had. The service today was super fast! We were in and out in less than an hour, even with the wait. I opted for the "Food for Thought," avocado toast with eggs, salsa, and fresh fruit. I paired it with a side of scrapple, which was a perfect addition. The fresh sourdough is always perfectly soft with a crunchy crust. The waitstaff is incredibly attentive and very kind, promptly bringing the side of fresh fruit to my table after it was initially forgotten. It's always crowded here, but it's for good reason. The pre New Year's Eve Party was already roaring when we arrive at Bad Monkey on the strip in Ocean City, Maryland. We expected it to more laid back in late December, but that was not the case. The traffic was more like late Spring, and this second story bar and kitchen was practically SRO. We were lucky to snare a deuce in the barroom and settle in with menus and light beer. The ceiling was high with extra large bladed fans. Acoustics were atrocious and any meaningful conversation would have to wait until we resumed our drive north to Bucks County. We ordered their Whiskey Rebellion and Patty Melty Burgers, both medium and commenced to people watching. Mixed crowd it was, mostly locals from this barrier island and nearby mainland with a few drifters like us on the way to somewhere else, but wanting to explore this small corner of America. The burgers were very good; with proper finish and decent shoestring fries for a couple bucks extra over the standard chips. Service was prompt and smiling, even though I really couldn't hear what the delivering bartender was saying over the din. After an hour we got back in the chariot and resumed our drive north along coastal Route 1. We could see the dunes to our right and bayside to the left until a golden sunset blinded us and reminded that we still had three hours to go. On my way to the beach, stopped at Bad Monkey. Talk about a fun place! Looks like a big kid club house. Bright yellow, several levels, Large decks, massive open windows. Fun Vibe! We visited on a Thursday and was quoted an hour wait but it ended up being about 20 minutes since we opted to sit outside. We ordered one french toast and four varieties of the bad monkey. French toast was huge and very filling. The eggs are your standard breakfast eggs. The homemade white bread is so good, I could eat it everyday. And omg the breakfast potatoes here are out of this world. I wish we didn't come here so late in our OC trip because I would have come here for breakfast every morning. If you can't tell yet, I'm a huge carbs girl. Would absolutely come here just to krdrr the white toast and breakfast potatoes. It did seem like they were short staffed when it comes to servers. This was my first time coming to Bad Monkey. I ordered the Man Up. The meal was GREAT! Just the right amount of flavor to everything, each ingredient complemented each other well. This place was right across our condo for the week, and it was our favorite restaurant + experience in Ocean City that week! The aesthetic was super cute and comfortable - it was open air bar and restaurant seating, but with A/C and ceiling fans. There is a patio that is not covered which can be a bit sunny and warm - that was where we were unfortunately seated, but the umbrella provided adequate shade for our particular table. Our waitress was super kind. She was helpful and quick. We asked about the monkey bread b/c of a Yelp review. They are complimentary, but they only serve them at breakfast. She said she'd check if they had any left AND THEY DID! It was SOOO good so ask to see if they have any if you stop by for lunch, maybe you'll get lucky! It's like a sweet roll covered with sticky cinnamon sugar. We got the mac attack burger - a thick burger with bacon, bbq sauce, and fried mac and cheese - and the randolph cheesesteak. Pro-tip: If you want truffle fries, sub them in for $3.50 for your sandwich. Cheaper than getting the appetizer! I highly recommend the parmesan truffle fries - they were emanating a strong truffle aroma, even when we took it home and reheated them. It was my favorite thing from this place. The burger and cheesesteaks were delicious too. Next time though I would get a different cheesesteak because I didn't like the beer cheese personally. Also, their portion sizes are HUGE! We decided to try this place out for breakfast. Got there exactly at 8:30am when it opened and was seated right away. They give you basket of monkey bread and cup of water in mason jar when seated. We ordered Funky Monkey, The Big Gorilla, Mighty Monkey and Nutella French Toast. The portions are huge and the pricing is reasonable. All the foods were delicious but I thought The Big Gorilla and Mighty Monkey was on a bit salty side. And the cup of coffee I ordered had spoonful of coffee grounds at the bottom. The outside seating area was good. The weather was warm, but the nice breeze outside made it comfortable. We we seated and attended to right away. I liked that they brought ice water to the table. While the menu was a little pricey, it is the beach. For $3.50 for a soft drink or tea, you would expect a larger glass, but you receive a plastic cup instead. Refills were free. Good offering of appetizers and entrees. I was skeptical about only getting chips with my meatball sub, but the chips were actually pretty good. Overall, it was a good experience.
