I had a great time at Ash'Kara and the food is delicious. It is flavorful and a nice variety from your typical Mediterranean. They tell you the Tagine can feed 3-4 people and that is not an understatement. Pro tip - get the mushrooms, they are some of the best I have had (we ordered two servings). Unfortunately we were most excited about the lamb dish, but it was sold out the night we were there. Service was a bit slow and inattentive at times, but it was a slow Sunday night and I understand the servers want to go home. All in all the food was some of the best I have had in the city and I would strongly consider returning! read more

Everything that could go wrong did. Came here for lunch last Sunday and am still pretty upset. I've lived in Denver for 8 years and have never had such a poor experience. Service was incredibly slow, waited 15 min to get our drink order in, that should have been our sign to just leave. Waiter repeated our order back to us and we still received the incorrect item, and part of our order never came out. Even the table next to us had to run inside to hunt down someone to get the check. What a mess. There's also a 20% automatic service charge added. I don't have a problem with that but I guess I would expect to have service then. read more

Weird experience all around. I came in around 3:15 PM for the first time and asked if I could sit down. The host said the bar was open, but there were employees rolling silverware at the bar, both doors were wide open, and it was very cold. I asked if I could sit somewhere else, as I wanted a more comfortable, less casual space. The host was noticeably casual and dismissive with me compared to other guests, which immediately felt unwelcoming. He told me I couldn't sit at a table I chose because he hadn't walked me there and said it would "mess up the flow," which felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. I ended up seated at a high-top near the open doors again, where everyone nearby was wearing jackets due to the cold. It took some time to learn that there were no full entrees available, only happy hour items. I ordered a drink, which took about 10 minutes to arrive, and ordered hummus and a cheese dish. I was particularly excited for the cheese dish, as Mediterranean food isn't something I get where I live, and that's why I chose to come here. After about 15 minutes, I told the server, ( a guy with a nose ring that seemed to be on adderall and wired in a slow restaurant) I wanted to go ahead and pay because I had a client appointment nearby and could tell service was moving slowly despite only a few tables being occupied. He brought out the hummus and the check and quickly mentioned--confusingly--that they were out of the fried chickpea dish and that he'd bring just a "sample" of cheese instead and wouldn't charge me for it. He left before I could say I'd prefer the whole dish and didn't care about the other item it was paired with Or I would have expected to be asked if I wanted a replacement since it was out, especially since the cheese was the main reason I ordered. The hummus was not meant to be my main dish. The hummus came with only one piece of pita, which made it impossible to finish without basically eating hummus by itself. When I asked about the cheese and requested another piece of bread (also for the cheese), I waited another 8 minutes with no update. The server never returned. I finished my drink and what I could eat, but the cheese never arrived. I had to get up and ask another staff member for a to-go container. The server clearly saw this and knew I was still waiting, yet avoided the table. At that point, I had to leave to avoid being late for my client. To make matters worse, a 20% gratuity was automatically added, which felt very unfair given the lack of service and the fact that I never received the dish I came in for. This was extremely disappointing. I went out of my way to treat myself at what I expected to be a nicer restaurant, only to feel dismissed, uncomfortable, and neglected. The skinny: Great food, drinks, ambiance, and service I've been here twice - once for dinner and once for HH. Both times were absolutely delicious. Some favorites of ours were Za'atar Fries, dips (hummus, and baba ganoush) + pita, lamb kabobs. The dips and pita were a surprise favorite. Fresh, hot, fluffy pita + dips you can add extras to, such as garlic confit. The fries are perfectly seasoned and fried to perfection - crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside - YUM. Small menu but still tons of variety and perfect for sharing. They have a small menu of cocktails as well that are delicious. The bookworm is super refreshing. Prices can be a little expensive, but what you would expect for tapas. Come for HH if you want to spend a little less but still get the experience. Would I come back? Went with a girlfriend on a Monday night around 5:30. We didn't have a reservation but we're able to be seated (it wasn't busy at all). They told us multiple times we could only have the table for 90 minutes, both before and during our meal, which felt very odd. We started with a lovely red wine and the pickle assortment (carrots were the table favorite). Moved on to the labneh dip, along with the mushrooms and onions toppings. All were delicious. I had the gluten free pita and while it clearly wasn't "real" pita, it was tasty and did the job. We moved on to the braised beef and lamb kabobs- both amazingly delicious. never been kicked out of an empty restaurant until I came here (due to time limit lol?) got there at 440 and by 540 were told we have 40 minutes until we have to leave and to order "the sooner the better". Mind you we already ordered $100 worth of appetizers and two rounds of drinks, not like we were just sitting there. the restaurants completely empty... they said every single table had a reservation for 630 and we had to leave by then. Yum yum yum in my tum. I made rezzies for my friend and I on a Friday night (FYI you need a deposit in order to make rezzies that they will apply to your final bill). I ordered a dirty martini because I needed it and we ordered the hummus app with the chicken shawarma. Omg. The hummus, the pita, the chicken. The combo. Phenom. The flavors were so lovely. I would eat this as my main meal. We also ordered the tagine with chicken. So. Freaking. DELISH. First there's the perfectly cooked moist and tender chicken with crispy skin. Then there's the sauce and all the different veggies. All together my taste buds were dancing and honestly so was I. Service was wonderful. Our server was so cute, fun, and knowledgeable and she looked like Taylor Swift so I loved her even more hahaha. Altogether this place is a little pricey, but it is a GD treat. I wish we were blown away but unfortunately Ash'Kara fell short of our expectations. Drink menu is underwhelming - neither of the drinks we had were noteworthy. We ordered a few dishes and found a few that were delicious. The htipiti and French fries (what can I say I love a good fry- ha ) were delicious. The aioli with the fries was good and they were well seasoned. This was our first time trying htipiti and it was so great. Dippable, scoopable, great flavor. Unfortunately the babaganoush was too sweet and the saganaki ($17) was overpriced for a piece of cheese on a cast iron pan, and the real disappointment here was the $40 steak. You'll be chewing on the steak forever - it was very tough and lacked flavor. I'm seeing other reviews now that mention the same thing. Cook the steak properly or provide a different cut of meat. We spent close to $200 for the 2 of us and we left disappointed. There's a great upscale Israeli joint close by that delivers on all the flavors, great service and ambiance, which we'll probably stick to. read more

We spontaneously stumbled into Ash'Kara on our trip to Denver and were not disappointed! The vibes were on point, the servers were super friendly, and the food was great. We basically had the whole air-conditioned indoor area to ourselves. It was the perfect ambiance for relaxing, especially to the sounds of their r&b-laced playlist, featuring Childish Gambino, Miguel, and Frank Ocean. I ordered the shakshuka with pita and drip coffee. The food came out fresh, hot, and was super flavorful. The coffee was tasty and had me buzzin. +1 got chicken and potatoes with salad and raved about it, too. Our servers were all really chill and friendly, constantly checking on us and bringing over things before we even asked. I've been wanting to come here for awhile now and no finally got to try their happy hour and it did not disappoint! Their happy hour is daily from 3-5PM in the dining room and 3-5:30PM if you sit at the bar. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. They had a good selection of dishes on the menu. We got an assortment of plates to share and got some drinks as well. My favorite was the hummus and pita! The dish only came with 1 pita and you had to pay an additional $3 for another one. My parents and I were really looking forward to this as it was on the Michelin guide and we've heard some people in the past talk about this place. However, at the end of the meal, we were quite disappointed. The first course was good the hummus was good and the labneh was tasty but the pita was definitely the star. But went downhill after that. The cut of New York strip for the second course was very upsetting for both my dad and I. The dishes itself was lacking in a few areas, the cut wasn't good nor was it filling either. My mom got the chicken dish which was four times bigger than ours and was more filling, but still was missing a few things to put it there, was more like a bowl you'd get from the Cava chain. The dessert portion was good. The baklava was a little on the sweeter side, but it was manageable. Service was very okay server was very far and few between dishes and even forgot a couple things we asked for. We checked out AshKara on a Friday night. I made a reservations weekend in advance and I am glad I did. It was packed. We sat down and received water right away. Our waiter came back a few minutes later taking our drink orders. I was unsure between which white wine I wanted so he had someone bring me a taste of both. I settled in the Monograph Gaia Assyrtiko, which was the right crisp and dryness that I was looking for. It paired very well with our apps. We got got the Htipiti which had a bit of a spiciness to it. It was only served with 1 pita for two people. Which seemed strategic as they know people would want to order another pita. It seems like a cheap out way for them to make more money. We also got the French fries and the watermelon and tomato salad. Both were very good and I enjoyed the za'tar seasoning on the fries which were not overly salty which is what I hate about fries sometimes. After three apps we agreed one entree would be enough so we ordered the lamb. It came out almost immediately, which was surprising. But, as for the Lunch Menu, everything from the hummus to the Appetizers to the Entre was magnificent!!! So great that I forgot to take a picture of the entre and realizing that I didn't take a pic until after the fact. We got the lamb French toast. It was the perfect savory, sweet, and filling. The seasoning and herbs took the French toast to a whole another level. We had the crispy chicken sandwhich as well which the flavor was spot on. It wasn't the typical KFC fried chicken sandwhich. It was flavored in so many spices where the flavor profile reminded me of Tikka Masala, but in its own unique way. Ash'Kara has clean, modern, inspired decor in a palette of pastels (corals, baby blues, seafoam greens). The food is served family style, with starters, sides, and mains populating the menu. I had the curried fried chicken marinated in yogurt and it was succulent and juicy. Hubby had the chicken shwarma and loved it. We also had the muhammara dip, with roasted red peppers and caramelized walnuts. Super interesting flavor that we had never experienced before. Very cute mediterranean restaurant! Reservations recommended for dinnertime, especially on the weekend. All their dishes are great and you can't go wrong, but the standouts to me are the Muhammara, which is a red bell pepper walnut dip, and their lamb kofte served on top of their delicious saffron labneh (although upon reviewing the menu just now, I believe this dish may have changed into a lamb kebab with different accoutrements). Their pitas are amazing and freshly baked upon ordering. My husband always jokes that the best table in the house is where you can have the best view of the pita man, because it's so satisfying to watch them being freshly baked in the brick oven. The atmosphere was fine but could have used better lighting. The food was decent, but nothing special, especially given the prices. The two of us ordered the restaurant week menu, including the mezze, lamb kafte, chicken, flank steak, and lemon poppyseed cake. The mezze left something to be desired as the whipped feta was entirely over whipped. The steak was flavorful, but the ends were burnt. The chicken was juicy, well seasoned and very flavorful and so was the lamb kafte. The lemon poppyseed cake was a bit dry but decent. We ordered hummus and the octopus, but the menu did not indicate that the octopus came with hummus so it was a little redundant. The food lacked citrus and a level of freshness you would expect from Mediterranean. The $ 50 lamb dish was slow cooked lamb, no bone, on mash potatoes and vegetables. Made reservations with a friend to join- heads up, your deposit online for your reservation actually isn't applied to the bill; it's refunded in a couple days. Super easy and seamless process, and you know that is NOT the case for dining in the Highlands. Food was incredible!!! The homemade hummus?!?! Devine! The falafel? SOOO good! The carrots? Yum. A couple of friends and I checked out Ash'kara during Restaurant week recently. I've been following their Instragram page for a while now, so I figured it was a perfect chance to check it out. If you put "whipped feta" on a menu, I'm here for it. My appetizer selection was the Mezze Platter, which came with the aforementioned whipped feta, babaganoush, and htipiti served with pita bread. Next up was Pastrami Spiced Flank Steak: Ruben Bread Pudding, Radicchio and Cabbage Salad, Preserved Lemon Vinaigrette. The Ruben Bread Pudding was a nice surprise! My friends and I came here for some brunch on Juneteenth. We had an early reservation so we arrived pretty peckish. Our server sat us down in a booth and gave us some water. The environment of the restaurant was well curated. The soft pastel paint really complimented the tapestries and lamps. We ordered some apps around 15 min after being sat. The caselvetrano olives they were wonderfully tangy. The fries came with a creamy spicy sauce that was really tasty too. The Falafel was crunchy and flavorful and was delicious dipped in the hummus. The hummus does not come with anything you have to order pita or chips in addition to it. That was slightly annoying but each pita is 3 dollars extra and we ordered four more so it was only an additional $12 dollars to our bill and we had asked the waitress explicitly if that would be the case. This wasn't a problem at all though because I forgot about it 20 min later when we received our entres. I had the lamb kofte. The meat was incredibly flavorful and the thick spicy sauce at the bottom of the pita complimented the meat splendidly. My experience at this restaurant was wonderful and I will definitely bring my parents here the next time they visit. 10/10 read more
