We came here about a month ago excited to dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant. We got a bunch of different apps including the falafel, hummus, and something with lamb. We also got an order of the pickles. The food was just ok. Nothing was outstanding. I've had way better falafels in humble establishments. Perhaps the main dishes would be more memorable, but we weren't that hungry for big dishes. Lastly, our server was initially very friendl. He was also honest about his food recommendations, which we appreciated. But when it came to paying for the food, we asked for 6 separate checks, he said he couldn't do it. He claimed that the math would be too complicated since a couple of us got drinks and we shared some apps. His demeanor also became less friendly after that. I travel for work often and dine with groups. It is almost never a problem to get separate checks. So overall, an ok experience. read more

I had high expectations for this place due to its bib gourmand recognition, however, I would give it a 3.8/5 stars. The most memorable dishes were the hummus, falafel, zaatar fries and the lamb skewers. Everything else was okay. The lamb loin was the most disappointing because the dish itself was $52 and a small portion size. The lamb was cooked pretty dry as well. The falafel was one of the best I've ever had so I highly recommend folks ordering it, it was so moist and had great flavor from the sauce. The babaganoush was okay, I wouldn't order it again, there was no egg plant or smokey flavor. We ordered quite a few things on the menu and spent about $250 for a group of five. There's street parking and service was fine. read more

A Denver staple that was recognized by the Michelin guide last year, this place always delivers. (My only complaint about our recent visit is that a large party came in right before us and bought out all of the lemon cheesecake and saganaki, but this is a good problem to have, as it means we'll just have to go back again soon.) The mezze trio and hummus are not to be missed! read more

What to do when you are dining with 4 other vegetarians? Make Resys at Ash'Kara! Don't get me wrong they have some amazing meat dishes but there are so many great options for people that don't. Great ambiance in a great neighborhood ( who doesn't love the hipster haven of Highlands?), Food and service are exceptional. Def get a ton of the apps: love the fresh baked pita, amazing falafel, Hummus, Htipiti.....any of the spreads. Great fresh salads using locally sourced greens. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=lCbntnnJQmU1hZOdDMxT4Q&userid=reuftDkg3oqnCVCcL7NKRQ We all shared the mains of Wood Fired Carrots https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=T6FYYUPnQX5-3R3TIfYMOg&userid=reuftDkg3oqnCVCcL7NKRQ and Eggplant Tangine https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=x4XXIbXOLz-UBkS2zBnDfQ&userid=reuftDkg3oqnCVCcL7NKRQ . Both were exceptionally good and really filling. What blew me away most were the flavors. I love Denver but many restaurants have bland and under seasoned food, This is not the case at Ash"Kara I felt like I was back in Morocco. The quality of food is also exceptional. Everything tasted fresh and wholesome. Great carrots, snap peas, greens etc. Treat yourself to a fun night out you won't be disappointed. read more

I came here for a Thursday dinner out with the ladies. I came during Denver restaurant week. Mid sized place but really cute ambiance and great for a solo dine in or small groups. Since note a huge restaurant not sure for large groups. Service was great and friendly. We had a first course app and I got the hummus...since I was hungry I also got the spiced fries and had a glass of chardonnay. The spiced fries with aioli were amazing! I am a wimp when it comes to spice but I downed them. The hummus was a great size and would be good for sharing. The pita that came with it was light and fluffy. For dinner I had the chicken za'atar. It was pretty good but I think I would try another entree. However, the chicken was well cooked and the roasted broccoli was nice. Had the sauce cake for dessert (which was soaked in a nice simply syrup) and I am a fan. Cute spot in Denver and I would like to come back here with some friends. read more

We had a reservation on 11/29 when it was 17 degrees outside, yet the staff tried to seat us on an open-air porch with just a single heat lamp - which did nothing in that kind of cold. It was genuinely shocking. The food may be great, but I can't recommend a place that makes choices like this. It felt careless at best and downright unethical at worst, and it really ruined our evening. If you can't properly heat the porch in winter, don't overbook the restaurant and certainly don't allow guests to reserve those seats. We ended up going to the restaurant next door, which had an enclosed, heated porch, and we had a lovely meal there instead. read more

We spent $208 for 2 people and honestly? Nothing tasted good. Everything was overcooked or sour. Our server was also as the kids say "mid". Very much not impressed and wish we went to the local Mediterranean spot. 1/4 the price, ten times the flavor. My husband and I both feel read more

This was my second visit to Ash'Kara and I was just as impressed the second time as I was the first time. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated and has an intimate feeling. The staff was all very professional and did a good job checking up on us but also letting us sit there, we did not feel rushed at all. The food is all very fresh and couldn't recommend all dishes on the Mezze menu. We were so full that we ordered our main dish to go. Bib Gourwhaa? Started (and finished) off with a pretty complete round of "Mezze," ranging from the Hummus (duh) to what was described as "Summer in Bowl", listed as Watermelon Labneh on the menu. Both were on point, as were our first round of drinks, an Elder Equinox for her, a Match My Freak for him. Plot Twist: Ordered a second round of drinks and Pita Bread, thinking we could ride into this Mediterranean sunset, but then the clouds shifted like a Summathyme afternoon in Denver, taking a turn for the worse. You have to understand the importance of the vessel of Pita Bread in a meal like this, acting as a portal from plate to mouth, but when the second round didn't arrive for approximately half an hour, the anticipation of that next bite was too much to bear. Things did eventually arrive, the meal was able to reach a conclusion, but that longer than necessary intermission left a lingering aftertaste. More Pink Pony than Mile High Bronco. read more

This place is quaint, intimate, clean and the amazing food is served by best-in-class waitstaff. Ask for Zeke!

I LOVE ash'kara - I recommend this to everyone that asks for Denver restaurants. I will review my most recent visit, which was amazing: FOOD: Went specifically because they are very vegetarian friendly with lots of different options! Hummus and naan - incredible hummus, very creamy and delicious Falafel - this was good, but not great. maybe a little dry for my liking Wood fired carrots - this is the best item I've tried from here. so much flavor on the carrots and chickpeas! DRINKS: drinks were just okay, this definitely isn't their strong suit here SERVICE: had great service at the bar and our server was very attentive. last time I sat at a table and also had a great server who gave lots of recommendations for the menu OVERALL VIBE: fun music, nice crowd, enjoyable evening for a night out! read more

Love to see Israeli food especially during such hard times! Their hummus is incredible and I couldn't get enough of their pita. The use Za'atar on a lot of different dishes was a favorite of mine. The skinny: Great food, drinks, ambiance, and service I've been here twice - once for dinner and once for HH. Both times were absolutely delicious. Some favorites of ours were Za'atar Fries, dips (hummus, and baba ganoush) + pita, lamb kabobs. The dips and pita were a surprise favorite. Fresh, hot, fluffy pita + dips you can add extras to, such as garlic confit. The fries are perfectly seasoned and fried to perfection - crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside - YUM. Small menu but still tons of variety and perfect for sharing. They have a small menu of cocktails as well that are delicious. The bookworm is super refreshing. Prices can be a little expensive, but what you would expect for tapas. Come for HH if you want to spend a little less but still get the experience. Would I come back? Yes and already have twice. read more

Ash'Kara - Party in my mouth - Mediterranean Near Me - Denver, Colorado

We had such delicious Israeli food last night at @ashkaradenver . Ash'Kara - Hebrew street slang derived from the Arabic word for "totally!" or "right on!"- is an exploration of contemporary Israeli cuisine which, like their name, borrows flavors from throughout the regions of the Middle East, Mediterranean, and Northern Africa. Their drink the Jesse's girl was fun gin drink with lavender flavor. Favorite thing on their menu was their Lamb kofte with saffron labneh. Jesse's Girl (Woody Creek Summer Gin | Lavender | Lemon | Prosecco) Pita with Baba Ganoush (Wood Roasted Eggplant, Tomato and Jalapeño Salad, Cilantro) Mushroom Conserva (Pickled and Preserved Mushrooms, Black Garlic, Nigella, Chili Flake, Sesame Seed) Greek Salad (Cucumber, Tomato, Kalamata Olive, Quinoa, Bulgar Wheat, Pickled Red Onion, Feta, Greens, Oregano Vinaigrette) Lamb Kofte (Buckner Family Farms Lamb, Saffron Labneh, Pomegranate Molasses) Chuck Roast read more

Their food has shrunk in size since I last went in February. The $8 lamb kabob used to give you two pieces, and now you only get one single lamp-pop for $8. For $42, their roasted chicken was tiny, and the sauce was very underwhelming. Lastly, the service was very subpar. With a forced 20% gratuity, I was hoping for service that would reflect that sort of gratuity, however my mom and I sat with empty plates for roughly 25-30 minutes until a different server got me the check. It's been good before, and I sure hope it gets good again, because this place should be an easy 5 stars. But It just doesn't feel right to give that when It made me feel like a fool for hoping to show my mom what I thought was a good restaurant, only to be left unhelped, and underserved. read more

Went with a girlfriend on a Monday night around 5:30. We didn't have a reservation but we're able to be seated (it wasn't busy at all). They told us multiple times we could only have the table for 90 minutes, both before and during our meal, which felt very odd. We started with a lovely red wine and the pickle assortment (carrots were the table favorite). Moved on to the labneh dip, along with the mushrooms and onions toppings. All were delicious. I had the gluten free pita and while it clearly wasn't "real" pita, it was tasty and did the job. We moved on to the braised beef and lamb kabobs- both amazingly delicious. At that point we were shuffled off to the bar since our table time was up (it sat empty for a while though!). Finished our wine chatting with a kind bartender. Delicious food, but definitely get a reservation to avoid the shenanigans. read more

We came for lunch on a Saturday. Service was great, attentive, quick. The place is beautifully decorated- ambiance was nice for brunch. However I was really disappointed in the limited selection of their lunch menu! I ordered the lamb gyro, which was tasty. My husband ordered the lamb bowl which lacked flavor. The baba ghanouch was a disappointment - jalapeños added an additional layer but it was spread thin to only accommodate a few bites. Overall I was very excited for this restaurant but the food didn't live up to expectations - flavors were bland and selection was limited for lunch read more

Everything that could go wrong did. Came here for lunch last Sunday and am still pretty upset. I've lived in Denver for 8 years and have never had such a poor experience. Service was incredibly slow, waited 15 min to get our drink order in, that should have been our sign to just leave. Waiter repeated our order back to us and we still received the incorrect item, and part of our order never came out. Even the table next to us had to run inside to hunt down someone to get the check. What a mess. There's also a 20% automatic service charge added. I don't have a problem with that but I guess I would expect to have service then. read more

We spontaneously stumbled into Ash'Kara on our trip to Denver and were not disappointed! The vibes were on point, the servers were super friendly, and the food was great. We basically had the whole air-conditioned indoor area to ourselves. It was the perfect ambiance for relaxing, especially to the sounds of their r&b-laced playlist, featuring Childish Gambino, Miguel, and Frank Ocean. I ordered the shakshuka with pita and drip coffee. The food came out fresh, hot, and was super flavorful. The coffee was tasty and had me buzzin. +1 got chicken and potatoes with salad and raved about it, too. Our servers were all really chill and friendly, constantly checking on us and bringing over things before we even asked. I really recommend this place if you're looking to kick off your weekend with an amazing and relaxing brunch! read more

Yum yum yum in my tum. I made rezzies for my friend and I on a Friday night (FYI you need a deposit in order to make rezzies that they will apply to your final bill). I ordered a dirty martini because I needed it and we ordered the hummus app with the chicken shawarma. Omg. The hummus, the pita, the chicken. The combo. Phenom. The flavors were so lovely. I would eat this as my main meal. We also ordered the tagine with chicken. So. Freaking. DELISH. First there's the perfectly cooked moist and tender chicken with crispy skin. Then there's the sauce and all the different veggies. All together my taste buds were dancing and honestly so was I. Service was wonderful. Our server was so cute, fun, and knowledgeable and she looked like Taylor Swift so I loved her even more hahaha. Altogether this place is a little pricey, but it is a GD treat. I would say give it a try yourself and decide if it's worth it to you! read more

Got the tequila based cocktail and it was refreshing and perfection. Then, we got the appetizer that is the bubbling warm cheese - I forget the name but it was also perfection. After that, had the baba with that wood fired pita - so warm, so fresh. Then, we also had fries (obsessed with the aioli) and the tomato and peach salad. The only issue was the salad was super tiny and not what I expected for $16. All in all, I'd come back here again and again. Super cute design and atmosphere. read more

The service charge is actually not disclosed on the happy hour menu. Please show us where it is disclosed? Why will you guys not update your website to state the real hours? Beware before you come here as the opening times are not shown on the website! No dinner until 5 pm although this is not stated anywhere. The employees were great and apologetic but whoever is in charge of the website? Nope. We got a sitter for my birthday to watch our two kids (that we never get time away from) and drove almost an hour here for a reservation to find out it's only happy hour. Nowhere on the website does it say happy hour is only served to 5 and open table made it seem as if it was a dinner reservation. Sounds like this happens all the time and the owners won't update the website. The table next to us also were astonished to find out it was only happy hour - yikes! Food was ok, hummus and pitas were great, skewers were really dry and pretty bad. The employees tried to make it as right as they could (not their fault) which is much appreciated but the whole concept that this happens all the time and no one is willing to make the website clear is pretty sad. Shame on the owners. Also the 20% service charge which I am totally ok with is NOT communicated. It is not on ANY menus we were given or communicated at all until you get the check and then they say any tips I get. So I guess plan to add 40% to the bill before coming here? The employees were so nice so I didn't mind because again, not their fault. read more

Food is fantastic a was the service. Will go back. As we all know - restaurant prices have really climbed, Be aware that you should probably assume whatever you are going to spend is actually double. Aside from Denver's heft sales tax, the restaurant puts a large service charge that does not cover the server. So when you add up the food, tax, service charge and tip - it will be double the food price. Save some money by going to happy hour. read more

I wish we were blown away but unfortunately Ash'Kara fell short of our expectations. Drink menu is underwhelming - neither of the drinks we had were noteworthy. We ordered a few dishes and found a few that were delicious. The htipiti and French fries (what can I say I love a good fry- ha ) were delicious. The aioli with the fries was good and they were well seasoned. This was our first time trying htipiti and it was so great. Dippable, scoopable, great flavor. Unfortunately the babaganoush was too sweet and the saganaki ($17) was overpriced for a piece of cheese on a cast iron pan, and the real disappointment here was the $40 steak. You'll be chewing on the steak forever - it was very tough and lacked flavor. I'm seeing other reviews now that mention the same thing. Cook the steak properly or provide a different cut of meat. We spent close to $200 for the 2 of us and we left disappointed. There's a great upscale Israeli joint close by that delivers on all the flavors, great service and ambiance, which we'll probably stick to. read more

I've been wanting to come here for awhile now and no finally got to try their happy hour and it did not disappoint! Their happy hour is daily from 3-5PM in the dining room and 3-5:30PM if you sit at the bar. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. They had a good selection of dishes on the menu. We got an assortment of plates to share and got some drinks as well. My favorite was the hummus and pita! The dish only came with 1 pita and you had to pay an additional $3 for another one. A more casual (yet just as tasty!) version of the other famous Isreali / Middle-eastern inspired restaurant, Safta. Ash'Kara has clean, modern, inspired decor in a palette of pastels (corals, baby blues, seafoam greens). The food is served family style, with starters, sides, and mains populating the menu. I had the curried fried chicken marinated in yogurt and it was succulent and juicy. Hubby had the chicken shwarma and loved it. We also had the muhammara dip, with roasted red peppers and caramelized walnuts. Super interesting flavor that we had never experienced before. Everything was fresh and felt light and healthy--would definitely recommend! Good food, chill vibes. read more

Things we'd recommend: - hummus (this is a must!) - we added on the mushrooms to this as an add on and I think you should too! - falafel - the ketchup tahini is the bomb! - pita comes with hummus and some other dishes. It's probably the best pita ever. - lamb kofte is the top entree- and worth it - French fries- wouldn't expect it. But they are amazing. - lastly for desert - get the BAKLAVA!! Overall, 5 out of 5. We checked out AshKara on a Friday night. I made a reservations weekend in advance and I am glad I did. It was packed. We sat down and received water right away. Our waiter came back a few minutes later taking our drink orders. I was unsure between which white wine I wanted so he had someone bring me a taste of both. I settled in the Monograph Gaia Assyrtiko, which was the right crisp and dryness that I was looking for. It paired very well with our apps. We got got the Htipiti which had a bit of a spiciness to it. It was only served with 1 pita for two people. Which seemed strategic as they know people would want to order another pita. It seems like a cheap out way for them to make more money. We also got the French fries and the watermelon and tomato salad. Both were very good and I enjoyed the za'tar seasoning on the fries which were not overly salty which is what I hate about fries sometimes. After three apps we agreed one entree would be enough so we ordered the lamb. It came out almost immediately, which was surprising. The lamb just fell apart and the couscous was soaking in a broth of deliciousness. I could have eaten more of that for sure! read more

Weird experience all around. I came in around 3:15 PM for the first time and asked if I could sit down. The host said the bar was open, but there were employees rolling silverware at the bar, both doors were wide open, and it was very cold. I asked if I could sit somewhere else, as I wanted a more comfortable, less casual space. The host was noticeably casual and dismissive with me compared to other guests, which immediately felt unwelcoming. He told me I couldn't sit at a table I chose because he hadn't walked me there and said it would "mess up the flow," which felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. I ended up seated at a high-top near the open doors again, where everyone nearby was wearing jackets due to the cold. It took some time to learn that there were no full entrees available, only happy hour items. I ordered a drink, which took about 10 minutes to arrive, and ordered hummus and a cheese dish. I was particularly excited for the cheese dish, as Mediterranean food isn't something I get where I live, and that's why I chose to come here. After about 15 minutes, I told the server, ( a guy with a nose ring that seemed to be on adderall and wired in a slow restaurant) I wanted to go ahead and pay because I had a client appointment nearby and could tell service was moving slowly despite only a few tables being occupied. He brought out the hummus and the check and quickly mentioned--confusingly--that they were out of the fried chickpea dish and that he'd bring just a "sample" of cheese instead and wouldn't charge me for it. He left before I could say I'd prefer the whole dish and didn't care about the other item it was paired with Or I would have expected to be asked if I wanted a replacement since it was out, especially since the cheese was the main reason I ordered. The hummus was not meant to be my main dish. The hummus came with only one piece of pita, which made it impossible to finish without basically eating hummus by itself. When I asked about the cheese and requested another piece of bread (also for the cheese), I waited another 8 minutes with no update. The server never returned. I finished my drink and what I could eat, but the cheese never arrived. I had to get up and ask another staff member for a to-go container. The server clearly saw this and knew I was still waiting, yet avoided the table. At that point, I had to leave to avoid being late for my client. To make matters worse, a 20% gratuity was automatically added, which felt very unfair given the lack of service and the fact that I never received the dish I came in for. This was extremely disappointing. I went out of my way to treat myself at what I expected to be a nicer restaurant, only to feel dismissed, uncomfortable, and neglected. I would have much rather had the full cheese dish than a hummus plate I could get anywhere. Overall, it felt like a waste of time and a long drive for a very poor experience read more

I have been waiting months to try Ash'Kara and it didn't disappoint. Well, except that I didn't realize that they had a lunch vs dinner menu. I'll definitely come back for the dinner menu. But, as for the Lunch Menu, everything from the hummus to the Appetizers to the Entre was magnificent!!! So great that I forgot to take a picture of the entre and realizing that I didn't take a pic until after the fact. We got the lamb French toast. It was the perfect savory, sweet, and filling. The seasoning and herbs took the French toast to a whole another level. We had the crispy chicken sandwhich as well which the flavor was spot on. It wasn't the typical KFC fried chicken sandwhich. It was flavored in so many spices where the flavor profile reminded me of Tikka Masala, but in its own unique way. On top of that, the service was amazing and the weather was just perfect to sit outside. read more
