To start, the hummus, pita, and htipiti are a must, obviously! And the za'atar-spiced fries are seriously addicting -- I could eat an entire order myself. Both salads are fantastic and are the perfect addition to the meal. But for the main course... DO NOT leave without ordering the za'atar roasted chicken, bavette steak, and wood-fired carrots. Pleasantly surprised that our experience turned out better than we thought it would. A few of our friends mentioned not liking the food or their experience but we decided to dine here and brought parents. We got a few drinks and placed an order for apps and mains together since it would be easier. And normally you would expect drinks would come first followed by apps and then mains. We got the apps, drinks and mains all together which was a bit odd because our table had no more place. Our server did not ask us and we thought it was understood. The lamb kofte, hummus and mandu dumplings were great! Their pita is fresh and piping hot, unlike other pitas I've had which was a big positive! The main dish my mom got was the carrot dish because she is a vegetarian, it was such a lazy dish! Just extra charred carrots on a bed of chickpeas and sauce - I expected more! Everything lamb was grilled to perfection and tasted really good. The falafel was very tasty as well. Stick to meat options if you decide to dine here. The food was amazing, but my personal visit had some clear issues. mainly with the pacing of the meal and it being difficult to get consistent service. A couple items we ordered were missing, and we also sat hoping to receive the check for 10-15 minutes each, while also not really hearing from anyone for much longer periods and having to get up to manually flag someone. A separate table near us was seated, and literally got up to leave after waiting quite a while for a waiter to come back to take their order. I'm not really sure what the issue was -- they weren't very busy, and had multiple people on staff working. It was a bit odd. That said, the food was good and the happy hour specials were solid. I guess lastly, the 20% required service fee comes across badly when the service was actually noticeably lacking. It felt like a potential explanation for why they didn't feel like they had to try, even if that isn't actually the case. The only major disappointment was that they were out of gluten free pita, but Chris, our server, did his best to make up for it by bringing out extra hummus and some veggies. He was an absolute DOLL. If you want gluten free pita, be sure to call ahead and check that they have it. The regular pita they served was hot and fresh out of the oven. The star of the show was the labneh, a whipped yogurt dip with sumac and sesame floating in the center. It was the perfect mix of creamy and sweet- I want to eat it right now! Everything tasted very fresh. I absolutely loved my gyro, the lamb was tender and well seasoned, and the wrap felt made in house. Loved the pickled veggies it was served with. They made an espresso martini without cream (to the approval of my friend), and the Ak old fashioned was delicious- loved the hint of cherry and vanilla. Decor was fun and boho- loved the colorful murals and the wicker pendant lights. Parking was a breeze, even on a Saturday at 11. Could park along the street right outside or they had a parking lot in the back. Man I was really disappointed with my recent visit to Ashkara. What used to be a great value and large portions, I left upset by how much I spent on very mid food ($54 on two apps ). What was supposed to be a nice birthday dinner turned out to be a let down. The server was friendly and we took his two suggestions for starters and chose a main to split. The bread and cheese was tasty but kind of difficult to cut. I also thought it was cheap to only give one pita and charge $3 for extra. Next were the Manti dumplings with a yogurt and chili oil. I thought they were okay but the portion was small and the filling was kind of dry and over spiced. I was glad we had extra pita because the yogurt sauce was delicious and muted the spices a bit. Lastly we decided to split the bavette steak over spiced couscous. When this came out it was a good plated portion size (a little steep at $48) but I took one bite of the couscous and knew it wasn't for me. It was so overly spiced my tongue was numb and there was nothing to mute the flavor. I've wanted to visit Ash'Kara for quite a while, but our experience was, honestly, disappointing. I liked the ambiance, and the service was decent, but the food was a big letdown. Several dishes listed as gluten-free and vegan on the menu online were not actually, which was frustrating. When we arrived, they were offering only the happy hour menu, which further limited our options. We ordered a few supposedly "safe" items, hummus, pickles, olives, and falafel, but in the end I couldn't eat the falafel due to cross-contact concerns. To be honest, I went home and had to find something else to eat! They did have a tasty gluten-free pita option, which I appreciated, but it came with a significant upcharge that wasn't explained up front. I hope they expand their options, especially given how accommodating Mediterranean cuisine can be, and consider adding a dedicated fryer for items like falafel and fries. I am a big fan of middle eastern food, so I was excited to try out Ash'Kara. We started off with some drinks. I got the cucumber martini and the house wine. The house which was a Grenache/syrah from Hotchkiss, Colorado. It was pretty good, probably the first time I've had a Colorado wine. I absolutely loved the cucumber martini though! Definitely recommend it and it is on their happy hour menu. Our starter was hummus and babaganoush served with pita bread. The pita bread seemed to have come right out of the oven and onto our plates! Both the hummus and babaganoush were really good! We ordered an extra pita bread so none of the dip went to waste. Next we tried their falafel and a veggie medley. The falafels were really crispy. The sauce it came with paired well with it. Veggies were also tasty! For my main I got the Verlasso Salmon. This was probably my favorite salmon I have had. The sauce it came with was really good and it was fresh and cooked perfectly! I am actually not that into salmon but I figured this restaurant would know how to do it right and they did not disappoint! Lastly we somehow attempted to make room for dessert. I got the baklava and my husband got the cheesecake. Both were delicious. I loved the presentation of all the food too! Our server was attentive. The staff were friendly. The decor is cute inside and we did not have much trouble finding street parking. The 20% service charge did throw us off though. It's the highest one I've yet to see. Great service along with very good food from what they call their "Michelin Menu" make for one of the best and least expensive higher-end Middle East restaurant meals in Denver. Made up of different choices you make from a list of appetizers, main courses and desserts, the $45 price tag per person makes for an excellent deal. Truly excellent htipiti (yes, I spelled that correctly if you were wondering:) (you just don't pronounce the "h" sound), along with an outstanding hummus and freshly made pitas still steaming from the oven were our first course. Our entrees were chicken tagine for me, and their vegetarian dish for my honey. She had pomegranate sorbet and I had pistachio baklava for dessert. Turns out the couple of glasses of wine each made up the cost of another meal, so for around $135 plus a 20 percent charge for what they cal al "service fee" that was not a tip ( so we added another 10+% for that since our server was so great), plus tax, the total damage was around $180 for a really enjoyable night out. I think you'd spend more at Safta if you were looking for a comparable meal of that style in what would be a bit more hip ambiance. But nonetheless, a neat place for an excellent deal on a fine meal. I've been making more of an effort to try restaurants outside my neighborhood and places I haven't been to before, and Ash'Kara was a great find. I love Mediterranean food and noticed this spot on the Michelin Guide, so I decided to check it out for lunch. I tried the Ash'Kara gyro and really enjoyed the balance of salt and fat and the lamb shawarma was tender, juicy, and wrapped in their homemade pita, which really stood out. We enjoyed a fantastic dinner last night at Ash'kara in Denver's LoHi neighborhood. Having last dined here before their Michelin Bib Gourmand award win, we weren't surprised to find that the restaurant continues to offer remarkable food. We all agreed the highlight of the meal was the Grilled Trout. Perfectly cooked and served on a lebelebi stew with butternut squash, chickpeas, and rapini relish. Lebelebi is a traditional traditional Tunisian dish with lots of garlic, cumin, and harissa, and typically thickened using day-old bread. A close second was the Roasted Chicken Tagine served with a saffron red pepper base, potato, carrot, coconut cream, spiced rice and roti. Delicious! One minor quibble was the host's somewhat harsh reminder when we arrived about the next reservation at 8:30 PM, which we attribute to their heightened popularity following the Michelin award. Great flavors, slow service -- excited to return for the full menu I've had Ash'Kara on my "must-try" list for a while, so when we were in the area for an appointment, we decided it was the perfect chance to finally check it out. The dining room was surprisingly empty for the early evening (maybe three tables seated) so we were seated right away. We quickly learned why: it was happy hour, and unlike most places that let you order from both the happy hour and full menu, Ash'Kara only serves their happy hour items during that window. So instead of a full meal, we ended up ordering a variety of small bites. We tried several kebabs and the Mezze Platter, which was a nice mix of dips and spreads. But the absolute standout -- the dish I'm still thinking about -- was the Carrot Kibbeh Nayyeh. It's hard to explain... almost like a whipped, spiced cheese? Whatever magic is happening in that bowl, it was incredible. I genuinely wished I could've licked it clean. If you go, get this. The downside was the service. Even though the restaurant was nearly empty, it took quite a while for anyone to come by, take our order, bring food, or even check in when we wanted another round of drinks. Everyone was friendly, just not very attentive, especially given how quiet the dining room was. That said, the flavors were strong enough that I definitely want to come back during regular dinner hours. I'd love to try the full menu and hopefully experience smoother service when the team is in more of a dinner-service rhythm. This place is super cute! I made resys for a sunday night and we were able to get seated very quickly. Im not sure how the wait would be without resys. The service here is good as well, our server asked if it was our first time (which it was) and he explained to us everything was family style. The dips were very delicious, slightly small, but good. The pita bread was soft and warm. I LOVE the olives. You can really taste the orange. The lamb shank was very good wrapped in the roti, but I dont think it comes with enough rotis. I ended up eating a lot of the lamb on its own and it was slightly too salty. The zataar fries are nice and crispy but some of the fries had wayyyyyyyy too much seasoning and was VERY salty. This place started as a 5 star experience and slowly worked its way down to 3. The hummus, fresh pita, shishito peppers, cocktails, and front of house service were all excellent. The bartenders and waitstaff were attentive, friendly, and professional. If I were rating only those things, this would be an easy 5 stars. Then the yellow rice arrived cold and crusty. We sent it back. It came back slightly improved but still not properly hot. After a few bites, we found a piece of plastic in it. The half chicken was a mixed bag. The crispy skin was delicious and well seasoned, but the chicken itself was served only lukewarm. Some pieces were moist and enjoyable, while others, especially toward the end, were noticeably dry. It wasn't bad, but had I known it would be served that way, I probably would have ordered something else. The kitchen issues alone would have dropped this to 4 stars. What pushed it down to 3 stars was the billing. A 20% service charge had already been added, yet the payment process still encouraged an additional tip. If you're not paying close attention, it's very easy to leave 40% on an already expensive meal. Whether intentional or not, it feels confusing and misleading. Even if it's disclosed somewhere on the menu, that doesn't make it customer friendly. Customers should not have to do math or hunt through fine print like a budget airlines to figure out what their meal actually costs. Build your labor costs into the menu price and be transparent. Surprise fees create frustration and leave customers feeling misled, regardless of how many disclaimers are printed. To their credit, they removed a couple of drinks from the bill, and I want to be clear that the staff handled the situation professionally. The problem was not the servers. The problem was a kitchen that missed the mark and a shady billing practice that leaves customers with a bad taste in their mouth at the end of the meal. Great hummus. Great pita. Great cocktails. Great service. Cold rice. Plastic in the food. A chicken dish that didn't quite live up to the hype. Confusing service fees. My wife, daughter and I ate here during our sept 2026 trip to Denver. We sat outside which was quiet and comfortable. For our appetizers we ordered the babaganoush and lamb kofte. The baba was a modern spin on a classic which got mixed reviews amongst us. The eggplant was chunkier than standard and it was spiced somewhat differently from conventional baba. They have their own pita oven and will serve you the freshest most amazing pita you'll keep asking for more. Their small plates are pretty amazing, we love all of their dips and falafels. Went to Ash'Kara for restaurant week and had decent expectations after getting may recommendations from friends. We got the three-course prix fixe menu. They tried to be accommodating to a dairy allergy which was nice. We got the Hummus, Roasted Chicken, and the Spice Cake. The Hummus was fine. The Roasted Chicken was disappointingly bland. I really wanted to like it, but it was just a little flavorless. The servers were nice, but took us a bit to order. This was probably because it's usually busier during DRW. The saving grace was the Spice Cake. This was one of the best moist cake I've ever had. I think it became one of my favorite cakes ever. It was moist but still fluffy and dense in the best way. I was hoping for a similar experience this time around. All of the flavors that I had experience prior still rings true this time. The falafel is perfect on the inside with a lovely, crunchy texture and not too over fried. The sauce at the falafel came on was delicious as well. A lot of people over fry falafel and end up ruining everything, however, this place does it right. I have never had fried halloumi before. This was a mess for me. There wasn't really a whole lot of flavoring on the halloumi. It was just like fried cheese. And top of that it was super salty. It came with a cubed, starch fried thing, that was also just super salty. The hummus was great, as always, and the pita bread is made fresh and arrived warm. I will say I wish the pita had been cooked a little longer as the insides of the Peto were still a bit. Dowie and the pita was missing characteristic trademarks of a lightly toasted outside. The flavor profile of the pita and hummus are amazing. We also ordered the lamb, and this exceeded expectations. The lamb wasn't overpowering in terms of the normal lamb experience. We are not super hungry, so a light lunch will suffice. I ordered the Ash gyro sandwich with lamb shawarma, lemon pepper tahini, feta, tzasaki, pickle onions and cucumbers. There was a small side dish of pickled veggies. The pita was big and full of fresh ingredients. The sauce was good and the sandwich was not over-dressed. The side of pickles were delicious. We also ordered the lamb bowl with greens, pickled onions, tomato and cucumbers, cardamon and tumeric spiced rice. The lamb had good flavor and not dry. The bowl was fine, just not a WOW factor. We had looked at the menu and viewed many more interesting dishes on the dinner menu. The lunch menu is generally more limited. The food here was good, solid and tasty but not maybe a fair measure of AshKara. On a future trip to Denver, we would like to give them a chance to dazzle us with their dinner selections. Ashkara is one of my favorite restaurants in Denver. It's also one of the many restaurants I recommend people should try when they come to visit. I've been twice with friends and family and was able to try much of the menu.
