I waited nearly 3 years to get to Ash'Kara, which was a mistake. The food was truly outstanding, as was the service. Our server steered us through the mezze plates, ensuring we ordered the best of the best. We ended up making a meal of mezze, which was just perfect. We tried the saganaki (THE best), falafel, za'atar fries, boeck, and hupin. They had an ube cocktail on the menu that night called the High Priestess (tequlia/mescal)--beautiful, deep purple, and killer delicious! We also tried a few desserts, both were very good, the chocolate bar was our favorite. I know, doesn't sound interesting, but trust me. The interior isn't much to look at, nor is the patio charming. But the food is so consistently excellent, that can be overlooked. This part of the Highland is parking-challenged, so take an Uber, or park 3 or more blocks from Ash'Kara and enjoy the neighborhood stroll. I've already booked another reservation in a few weeks with some out-of-towners. Ash'Kara is now in my top 5. read more

Wow was the hype lived up to with Ash'Kara! My GF and I absolutely adore Mediterranean food and this place hits the spot. All the different meats and dips really is what sets this place apart from your standard run of the mill place. You can taste the freshness, the quality ingredients and the love that they put into each dish. I would recommend coming with more than just you and one other so you can do more of a Tapas experience and sample more of the foods that they have on the menu. Yumm! I've never been here before so I was really excited to try everything! We started off with hummus and lebneh! They came with fresh in house cooked pita! So delicious! Personally I'm not a huge hummus fan but I did love the lebneh! I got the spiced rice and Za'atar fries! The spiced rice was good! It's a side dish so I wish I could get a little more. The fries were seasoned well! The sauce came on the side. I tried a little of it but didn't find it to my liking. We also got their rotating mock tail. That night it just happened to be strawberry lemonade! It was delicious! I think there was soda water or something else in it to make it carbonated. We also got a salad with falafel on top! Delicious! At one point we thought our server forgot about us cause they were so focused on the table next to us; but when they did return they gave us delicious dessert options with an amazing ice cream on top! The labneh is amazzzing and so is the hummus. I recommend getting it with a side of mushrooms that are quite tasty. Be aware the hummus comes with nothing to eat it with. They have pita and such you have to of course pay extra for. They should move the bread options from the bottom of the menu to the top near the hummus info. This is one of the best middle eastern restaurants I've ever been to! The quality is extremely tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed every single dish that was served. Even before any of the delightful morsels transported into my mouth, I was already enthralled by their silverware. It gave me the illusion that I was living a very fancy life. We started out with the house pickles. They all had a zap of sour (?) taste which was very refreshing and got us ready to dig into our other meals. I'm such a hummus fan, so I was interested in trying Ash'Kara's hummus, but they had so many other interesting things, so we ended up trying the muhamarra. It reminded me of a much woodier version of hummus that I ended up really liking. Kind of glad I strayed away from the traditional decision, but it also peaked my curiosity that if this was so good, their hummus must be SUPER good. :D And as a lamb lover, I had to order the lamb kofte. The lamb was tasty, but oh boy oh boy that rice was addicting. I would eat one tiny piece of the lamb and then eat giant bites of the rice. In fact, it was so good I ended up ordering an entire plate of the rice itself. I could eat that everyday on its own! We also got the wood roasted carrots because of how much Yelpers have praised it. Presentation and taste was great, but I wish the carrot was a wee bit softer. We also got some falafels but I personally thought they were the least amazing out of all the dishes. Husband sent me this menu for restaurant week and it looked tasty so I thought why not it would be a great way to get an early dinner in with our 5 month old baby. All in all we had a great meal here. We started with the Mezze Platter and the Lamb Kofte Kababs. The lamb was super tender and I really enjoyed the Saffron Labneh they were served with. The Mezze platter was ok, it was good but nothing to write home about. Don't get me wrong I would totally get it again but I think I would have been happier with hummus. Pita was wood fired which I liked. But the main stars of the show were definitely the mains. The Pastrami spiced Flank Steak was fantastic, the pastrami flavors really shining through. I tend to like a leaner cut of beef and it was super tender and delicious. The Reuben bread pudding squares were good and the cabbage was...potent (I do not recommend eating it by itself) but when you ate a bite a cabbage with the steak they complimented each other nicely. I think that was probably the idea but man were me and my husband both in for a shock when we tried the cabbage alone. The top dish was the chicken. And if you're anything like me you're wondering how chicken could be the best thing in the world...well let me tell you. The harissa in the broth gave a wonderful kick of spice and the za'atar flavored the chicken perfectly. Not to mention it was so succulent and juicy, just a perfectly cooked bird. Our waitress told us it was also cooked in the wood fire oven so I don't know if that is the secret of what, but I could honestly eat that chicken weekly with no issues or complaints. It was really just the most amazing thing. The cocktails were ok, I tried what was essentially similar to a margarita but I think I was just disappointed in the lack of heat as there was supposed to be Serrano in there but it was still refreshing as heck thanks to the cucumber. Alfies bourbon smash was good too, a bit tart but the bourbon came through nicely to add some warmth which is what I think they were going for. The ambiance of the place looked super cute, however as we had baby boy and full stroller it was nice that they had seating that could accommodate that by the front. But if you're normal people and not trying to dine with a 5 month old it's super cute and a great place for a date night. All in all it's not a question of IF I would come back it's WHEN the heck am I coming back for that chicken. I'm a horrible slacker of a reviewer. Especially when it comes to a place (like this one) that I've visited and enjoyed MANY times. I'm a huge fan/connoisseur of hummus and falafel, and Mediterranean food in general. The hummus here is amazing! Creamy texture, lots of wonderful Mediterranean spices, and a ton of perfect olive oil. I love feta with my hummus, and their feta doesn't disappoint either! I could eat their hummus and feta every day and not get tired of it. Oh, and the pita... The pita is a soft, pillowy, hot deliciousness of whole wheat. I can almost guarantee you will be ordering an extra to go with your generous portion of hummus. My partner and I have not been disappointed with any of the food we've tried here, save for maybe the Fried Panisse & Halloumi. Well, really just the Halloumi, and really only because of the texture. Halloumi is a traditional Cypriot cheese made from a mixture of goat's and sheep's milk. Sounds delicious, but fried as it was, it was a little mushy for our tastes. The rest of the dish was devoured with vigor though, so not horrible by any means. The drinks vary by season, and are exceptional! One of the bartenders was looking for a drink made with prosecco, and I told him that lavender goes very well with prosecco. At my suggestion, he mixed prosecco with lavender, and then added a butterfly pea flower mixture, making the drink a beautiful hue of lavender also. He dubbed the drink "Jessie's Girl" after me, which was very sweet of him! I miss a few of the drinks on the summer mixed drink menu (including this one) and hope they make a come back this year! Happy Hour at the bar is my go to for Ash'Kara, mainly because it lasts 30 minutes longer at the bar. So...this is a place I never expected to like. This is not a food I thought I would dig. And who would have though that the french fries would be the best fries in the city (they really are, folks)? And, I am a husband, and my wife dragged me here, and now I drag HER here. The HH is fantastic. Wine is $8, Ratio Antidote is $5 (totally a deal for any HH), delicious olives (I hate olives but my wife lives for theirs) are $5, hummus is $5. The aioli is made with the hot sauce, but I recommend in still getting a side of the actual hot sauce ALSO. Trust me. I hope you get Sam as the bartender, as he is cooly laid back and smooth, yet off the target efficient. It is their corporate thing to do the 20% automatic service charge, and I complain, yet the places are still good enough of product that we still go there. Plus, say the word "Ashkara." What a cool word. We are not having kids, but I would definitely consider Ashkara if we hypothetically had a girl. You should too. We sat at the bar and have to say that the food and service were exceptional! The hummus was truly the best I've ever had. My husband ordered a lamb and chicken kabob and said they were cooked perfectly and delicious. We also had the mezze platter which was very tasty. Additionally, they have a wonderful selection of wine. My only negative was being informed of the 20% service charge automatically charged to our bill which was not disclosed beforehand. You can choose to sit outdoors or inside at a regular table for big groups or private booth for two that is separated using drapes. The staff is friendly and the service is really fast too. The place seemed busy on a Thursday evening but we were able to get the table. You should make a reservation if you know you'll be going here for dinner. I started with some vegetarian appetizers - Za'atar fries, hummus and baba ganoush. Fries were awesome, freshly made and sprinkled with herbs. My friends thought the hummus was a bit salty but it seemed ok to me. The hummus was good, but not as good as the baba ganoush. I think their baba ganoush is the best one I ever had and same with the pita bread. It's fluffy and tears apart so easily. I was already full with these apps. I ordered the eggplant entree for 2. I think they smoke it for some time, made to order, and then serve with the chickpeas which resemble more like the Indian chana masala. I liked it though. First off, the decor is beautiful here! We ordered the chicken tagine and a hummus platter with mushroom conserva. The pita here beats any other pita I've ever tasted, it was like biting into a delicious cloud. I think I devoured 5+ of the freshly made ones. I would highly recommend the mushroom conserva on the hummus as it really made it feel like more than just a dip and the mushrooms were perfectly cooked. Came here for brunch on a Sunday! We had our pup with us but they would not let us sit on the patio and cited city ordinance. However, I have read those and they don't preclude them from having dogs on the open patio in the front of the restaurant. We had a reservation and were sat on the patio next to many tables that needed to be bussed and sat for almost half of our dining experience. It wasn't super packed but did have a good amount of people. The manager was super sweet and brought us some sparkling wine and wished us a happy anniversary. We went with the preset course meal and were very excited, the dips were amazing and the pita was so delicious and warm but did take a little to get out to us. Our waitress was also sweet and wished us a happy anniversary while she was taking our orders but once she took our dip plates away after we finished, she didnt come to check on us for over 30 minutes. We were starting to become unhappy especially considering we had done the preset course and had ordered everything when our waitress first came to the table, at this point it had been over an hour since we first ordered. It seemed that the staff were more concerned with prep work than getting people their meals. At one point during the wait the bartender came over and gave us another round of sparkling wine and said "congratulations on whatever you are celebrating or whatever" and walked away. We ended up waiting till around 8:15 for our main meals and had spent a good portion before that just sitting and waiting while other people who came in after us got their meals. It even got to a point where we just wanted to pay for the dips and pita we had eaten and go home as we expected not to still be there by then. By the time our main meals came out we weren't even hungry and wanted to pay and go, we did eat there as we were not going to take it home since it probably wouldn't have reheated well. The NYC strip took up a very small amount of the plate with the rest just being potatoes but both were good for what they were. The chicken bowl was yummy and definitely had more food portion wise. They did thank us for waiting and gave me "extra" on my chicken bowl since we waited super long. We ended up getting desert and the check around 8:30 after asking for them to bring them with our meals so we could leave. We also were not the only customers last night to be upset with the wait time of their food as another customer had gone up to the manager mentioning that they had also waited around 30 minutes for their food. Second, the food is truly delicious. We ordered the falafel, some nutty spicy topping for the pita, the chicken and salmon to share. Holy toledo was it good! The falafel is in this delicious cream sauce while the salmon was literally melt in your mouth soft and fluffy. Arguably the best pita bread we have found in Denver after Safta. ambience was very pleasant. On this super hot day we were able to be seated inside. Service was accommodating. We liked the food. check out the large pita bread oven, resembling a massive Woodfire pizza oven. Street parking only as far as we could tell but that worked pretty well. I had the gin fizz which wasn't quite fizzy but still delicious. My partner enjoyed their old-fashioned. The plates: the OLIVES! These were the best olives I've ever had. I would go back just for the olives. Eating these made me realize why olive oil is so delicious. We also had the Mezze platter which came with one piece of pita (you will probably need at least two pitas if youre eating with more than two people.) Their pita bread seems to be homemade and was perfect to eat with the various spreads. The whipped labneh was my favorite of the three, almost like cream cheese. The chicken kebab was exceptionally cooked and tender. French fries, flavorful. Because they also added compulsory 20% gratuity. And because we had to buy our pita at three dollars each. We did add a little side of mushrooms, which were delicious, by the way. But $12 for a plate of 6 naked ping-pong ball size falafels? Really? So would I come back here? Absolutely not. And I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends either. Alright fine, I admit it... Ash'Kara was initially on my Denver bucket list because I'm a Bachelor/Ben Higgins fan. But it doesn't matter what got be there, I'm just so glad I went. Truly some of the best foods and flavor I've tasted. My fam and I are in town to see my brother and sis-in-law, and before we came, I told them I wanted to go to this restaurant. They were immediately on board as they've been before and were eager to go back. The five of us booked a table for Monday night and were sat at a round, comfy booth in the corner of the restaurant. Each of us made comment about the fantastic decor and overall atmosphere. The interior design mixes lots of soft colored patterns and the relaxed lighting makes for a chill overall ambience. Our server, Casey, was fantastic. There's nothing like a friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable server! He was happy to offer plenty of recommendations and help walk us through the menu in detail (we needed it because it was so hard to decide)! Ash'Kara is all small and shareable plates so each of us chose one to pass. First came the hummus dish with the wood fired pita bread. The dip was smooth and smokey, and the pita was the kind you always need to order extra of so you can mop up the delicious sauces from every dish. Next to the table was the falafel, which sat on top of what they call a ketchup tahina. Can't say I've heard of that sauce before but dang was it good (insert said pita to scoop it all up). The fried cauliflower plate included mango and marinated feta, a combination that was delicious. My favorite came next, the wood roast carrots. Casey recommended those and I'm glad he did! They were glazed, herbed and had pistachio dukka. We went with the tuna kebab, Spanish octopus, and lamb kofte from the "land and sea" section of the menu. All I can say is that we were basically obsessing over the array of flavors. I've heard a lot of this place from friends and colleagues so decided to go check it out. My first impression was that the ambiance was nice. The interior looked really clean and nice but we wanted to sit outside which was also nice with minimal traffic noise. The food was pretty good. The hummus was very tasty although we couldn't help but wonder "is this all of it?" upon receiving a small, flat plate of it. The tagine was tasty but definitely a fusion as it didn't taste like the tagine I've had at other African places. We thought that the hummus and tagine were on the expensive side. Our server was nice enough but they seemed to be a bit understaffed so waits for ordering and getting items took a bit. She also took my girlfriend's napkin, kind of coughed into it while folding it, and put it back on the table. Weird. The bathrooms are clean and well-stocked. I personally like to mention how the bathrooms are at restaurants because bathrooms tend to say a lot about how a place treats the cleanliness of their kitchen. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees. All were awesome. It's not a big place. It's just perfect. It's cozy enough to be called a date spot maybe? Whatever you end up calling this place it is definitely a foodie spot. They say the proof is in the pudding right? Well my pudding here was the half chicken. This bird was so damn good! Moist and anywhere you bite on this dish it is for sure tasty! It's like this chicken willingly bathe itself in this awesome seasoning. Approach Ashkara with an open mind. If you have not tried Israeli food you will be in for an awesome surprise. It is too good. Lamb Kofte. Super tender beef steeped in this amazing sauce! Saganaki as a starter is a great way to introduce you to their dishes. Low lights. Intimate setting and the noise is not bad. Separated into nooks. My favorite spot is to the right as you walk in. It's a bit darker. If you want to take photos or people watch- then request to be seated in one of the area to the end of the divider from the entrance. The two topper that faces anyone who walks in. 5 stars -- we had an amazing night at Ash'Kara and I can't wait to go back to try more of the menu. Here's what we ordered: -Drinks: Blueberry Mule and an Apple Cider Mock-tail ⁃Snacks: House Pickles. I'm a huge fan of the cucumber and beets. The carrot was a bit sweet. ⁃Dips: Muhammara (Roasted Red Peppers and Caramelized Walnuts) and added the Herb Marinated Bulgarian Feta. The hubs really enjoyed the wood-fired pitas. ⁃For plates we got the Lamb Kofte and Wood Fired Bass. The Bass was truly the highlight of the meal for me. Served crispy skin side up and topped with a Kalamata Olive Tapenade. It comes with a generous portion of crispy potatoes. ⁃ Sides: Za'atar Fries ⁃Dessert: Chocolate Honey Cake.  So good!! I have no words to describe this cake you just have to experience it for yourself. A few things to know before you go: ⁃The food is meant to be shared and comes as it's ready. Order some drinks and enjoy the experience.   ⁃They require verification of Covid-19 vaccination to dine-in. This is the first time i've been asked for this and it honestly made me love this place even more knowing this simple step helps to create a safer environment for both me and their employees.   ⁃They add a 20% Fair Wage charge to your bill which helps to ensure the entire staff are equitably compensated. I'm definitely here for this!  I've seen some negative reviews  about this but I think it's important to remember that our dining experience is not just the result of a great server but the culmination of everyone, bringing it all together. read more

Came here for a little catch up girls dinner and it was so delicious. Everything was tasty. It was a bit pricey for sure, but I still liked treating myself. Our server was also really kind but she definitely left us on our own a bit longer than we had hoped. Still plan to go back! My friend and I loved the vibes. read more
