never been kicked out of an empty restaurant until I came here (due to time limit lol?) got there at 440 and by 540 were told we have 40 minutes until we have to leave and to order "the sooner the better". Mind you we already ordered $100 worth of appetizers and two rounds of drinks, not like we were just sitting there. the restaurants completely empty... they said every single table had a reservation for 630 and we had to leave by then. Nobody said anything when we were seated. We left and went to the dumpling place and walked by ashkara an hour later and the entire patio was unseated and multiple seats inside still open lol im well aware many restaurants have time restrictions but never have I been pressed to leave an empty restaurant at 530 on a monday night. and tbh we probably would have been out of there in the next hour anyways, no idea why the server felt the need to rush us an hour into our dinner or why they reserve "every single seat" so that people that give you buisness before reservations are rushed out? just doesnt make sense. food was good, drinks were good, mazevo is better imo, wont ever be back due to the staff though. And since a 20% tip is automatically integrated into the bill that probably makes a lot of sense why a lot of the reviews are complaining about service, they don't have to earn their tips... read more

Very cute mediterranean restaurant! Reservations recommended for dinnertime, especially on the weekend. All their dishes are great and you can't go wrong, but the standouts to me are the Muhammara, which is a red bell pepper walnut dip, and their lamb kofte served on top of their delicious saffron labneh (although upon reviewing the menu just now, I believe this dish may have changed into a lamb kebab with different accoutrements). Their pitas are amazing and freshly baked upon ordering. My husband always jokes that the best table in the house is where you can have the best view of the pita man, because it's so satisfying to watch them being freshly baked in the brick oven. Great drinks too, and a decent happy hour where their food and drink offerings are actually things you could get on their regular menu, not just cheapened options created for happy hour. read more

Denver is SO lucky to have Ash'Kara! While (admittedly) the Bachelor fan I am, I was initially piqued through Ben Higgins, this place stands on its own quite well without the reality TV hype. Made reservations with a friend to join- heads up, your deposit online for your reservation actually isn't applied to the bill; it's refunded in a couple days. Super easy and seamless process, and you know that is NOT the case for dining in the Highlands. Food was incredible!!! The homemade hummus?!?! Devine! The falafel? SOOO good! The carrots? Yum. There wasn't a scrap left on our plates. Can't wait to come back! read more

Stopped at this place on a Friday evening with no reservation. Luckily there were two spots at the bar for us! Started with cocktails which were both refreshing and delicious. Shared a few items from the 'mezze ' section of the menu - hummus & pita, falafel, za'atar fries (the dipping sauce was amazing!), and lamb kofte. We also split the braised lamb which was so flavorful and tasty. We thought everything was 10 out of 10! This place had good vibes with nice, aesthetic decor. The bartender was also fun to chat with. We will definitely be back! read more

Ash'Kara deserved to be in the bib gourmand list. Everything is good and flavorful. The lamb tajin is very big, one order can feed 2 people. The pita bread is light, and flavorful but I'm pleasantly surprised by how good the roti is. Love the falafel as well. The servers are very attentive. Would absolutely recommend. read more

My fiancé and I came here for dinner during restaurant week and while the experience was good, it wasn't "great." The staff was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was fine but could have used better lighting. The food was decent, but nothing special, especially given the prices. The two of us ordered the restaurant week menu, including the mezze, lamb kafte, chicken, flank steak, and lemon poppyseed cake. The mezze left something to be desired as the whipped feta was entirely over whipped. The steak was flavorful, but the ends were burnt. The chicken was juicy, well seasoned and very flavorful and so was the lamb kafte. The lemon poppyseed cake was a bit dry but decent. Overall, I was not blown away and probably would not come back given the pricing. read more

We loved it! Service was great, drinks on point. The pita was nice and fluffy. We got the saganaki and agreed we would definitely skip it next time. It was not hot... probably would have been better if it wasn't room temp cheese in a warmish mini cast iron. The whipped feta and hummus were absolutely amazing. We also got all of the salatim and while we liked it (great chicken, cauliflower, marinated feta, etc) we would have skipped the roasted alliums. Just didn't love it. The fries though? Yum! Yumm! I've never been here before so I was really excited to try everything! We started off with hummus and lebneh! They came with fresh in house cooked pita! So delicious! Personally I'm not a huge hummus fan but I did love the lebneh! I got the spiced rice and Za'atar fries! The spiced rice was good! It's a side dish so I wish I could get a little more. The fries were seasoned well! The sauce came on the side. I tried a little of it but didn't find it to my liking. We also got their rotating mock tail. That night it just happened to be strawberry lemonade! It was delicious! I think there was soda water or something else in it to make it carbonated. We also got a salad with falafel on top! Delicious! At one point we thought our server forgot about us cause they were so focused on the table next to us; but when they did return they gave us delicious dessert options with an amazing ice cream on top! No photos cause it was so good we ate it all! Over all I had a great experience and I can't wait to go back! read more

Delicious food and great service. We loved our meal and highly recommend the restaurant.

This is one of the best middle eastern restaurants I've ever been to! The quality is extremely tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed every single dish that was served. Even before any of the delightful morsels transported into my mouth, I was already enthralled by their silverware. It gave me the illusion that I was living a very fancy life. We started out with the house pickles. They all had a zap of sour (?) taste which was very refreshing and got us ready to dig into our other meals. I'm such a hummus fan, so I was interested in trying Ash'Kara's hummus, but they had so many other interesting things, so we ended up trying the muhamarra. It reminded me of a much woodier version of hummus that I ended up really liking. Kind of glad I strayed away from the traditional decision, but it also peaked my curiosity that if this was so good, their hummus must be SUPER good. :D And as a lamb lover, I had to order the lamb kofte. The lamb was tasty, but oh boy oh boy that rice was addicting. I would eat one tiny piece of the lamb and then eat giant bites of the rice. In fact, it was so good I ended up ordering an entire plate of the rice itself. I could eat that everyday on its own! We also got the wood roasted carrots because of how much Yelpers have praised it. Presentation and taste was great, but I wish the carrot was a wee bit softer. We also got some falafels but I personally thought they were the least amazing out of all the dishes. Good, but not spectacular. Overall, we had an amazing time with great service and food. There are some items on the menu that are dinner only, so we will definitely stop by for dinner sometime to try those out! read more

A couple of friends and I checked out Ash'kara during Restaurant week recently. I've been following their Instragram page for a while now, so I figured it was a perfect chance to check it out. If you put "whipped feta" on a menu, I'm here for it. My appetizer selection was the Mezze Platter, which came with the aforementioned whipped feta, babaganoush, and htipiti served with pita bread. Next up was Pastrami Spiced Flank Steak: Ruben Bread Pudding, Radicchio and Cabbage Salad, Preserved Lemon Vinaigrette. The Ruben Bread Pudding was a nice surprise! We ended dinner by splitting the baklava and lemon poppy seed cake. Overall, it was a great introduction to the restaurant and a fun girls' night out! read more

I tried this restaurant for brunch, and could not have been happier to find this place. The brunch menu is pretty small, but there are some really good options. Done well. I tried the lamb kofta French toast, which was a magical combination of sweet, savory and slightly spicy flavors. The harissa, maple syrup stood out, and the French toast was rich and indulgent. I also heard glowing recommendations about the harissa chicken sandwich. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating with an atmosphere. That is perfect. The service was quick and friendly and I cannot wait to go back. read more

Food is delicious. Absolutely horrendous service. We sat for 20 minutes before anyone checked on us, or even asked if we wanted a drink (and it was empty tonight -Sun night). When the server with the teal hair walked by our table and we all were trying to make eye contact and get served, she gave us an attitude, "do you need something??" So many servers, just standing around. That 20% service charge that is added to the final bill... feels like servers can be aloof and still be guaranteed $. Thumbs down read more

Ash'Kara - Mediterranean Near Me - Denver, Colorado

My friends and I came here for some brunch on Juneteenth. We had an early reservation so we arrived pretty peckish. Our server sat us down in a booth and gave us some water. The environment of the restaurant was well curated. The soft pastel paint really complimented the tapestries and lamps. We ordered some apps around 15 min after being sat. The caselvetrano olives they were wonderfully tangy. The fries came with a creamy spicy sauce that was really tasty too. The Falafel was crunchy and flavorful and was delicious dipped in the hummus. The hummus does not come with anything you have to order pita or chips in addition to it. That was slightly annoying but each pita is 3 dollars extra and we ordered four more so it was only an additional $12 dollars to our bill and we had asked the waitress explicitly if that would be the case. This wasn't a problem at all though because I forgot about it 20 min later when we received our entres. I had the lamb kofte. The meat was incredibly flavorful and the thick spicy sauce at the bottom of the pita complimented the meat splendidly. My experience at this restaurant was wonderful and I will definitely bring my parents here the next time they visit. 10/10 read more

Ash'Kara - Appetizers - Mediterranean Near Me - Denver, Colorado

The place seemed busy on a Thursday evening but we were able to get the table. You should make a reservation if you know you'll be going here for dinner. I started with some vegetarian appetizers - Za'atar fries, hummus and baba ganoush. Fries were awesome, freshly made and sprinkled with herbs. My friends thought the hummus was a bit salty but it seemed ok to me. The hummus was good, but not as good as the baba ganoush. I think their baba ganoush is the best one I ever had and same with the pita bread. It's fluffy and tears apart so easily. I was already full with these apps. I ordered the eggplant entree for 2. I think they smoke it for some time, made to order, and then serve with the chickpeas which resemble more like the Indian chana masala. I liked it though. It came with a side of fried papadaum to add some texture to the entree. This presentation was awesome. It might get attention of your nearby tables. Finally the staff here is quite helpful. My friend is Jain and can only eat vegetarian food without onion, garlic. So the server was helpful enough to ask the chef all the things he could eat and brought back a list of handwritten items. read more

Wow was the hype lived up to with Ash'Kara! My GF and I absolutely adore Mediterranean food and this place hits the spot. All the different meats and dips really is what sets this place apart from your standard run of the mill place. You can taste the freshness, the quality ingredients and the love that they put into each dish. I would recommend coming with more than just you and one other so you can do more of a Tapas experience and sample more of the foods that they have on the menu. Until next time, I can't wait to come back! read more

The labneh is amazzzing and so is the hummus. I recommend getting it with a side of mushrooms that are quite tasty. Be aware the hummus comes with nothing to eat it with. They have pita and such you have to of course pay extra for. They should move the bread options from the bottom of the menu to the top near the hummus info. It's a cool spot and decorated well but they seem to have issues with their air conditioning sometimes. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. Also tip is included! read more

Husband sent me this menu for restaurant week and it looked tasty so I thought why not it would be a great way to get an early dinner in with our 5 month old baby. All in all we had a great meal here. We started with the Mezze Platter and the Lamb Kofte Kababs. The lamb was super tender and I really enjoyed the Saffron Labneh they were served with. The Mezze platter was ok, it was good but nothing to write home about. Don't get me wrong I would totally get it again but I think I would have been happier with hummus. Pita was wood fired which I liked. But the main stars of the show were definitely the mains. The Pastrami spiced Flank Steak was fantastic, the pastrami flavors really shining through. I tend to like a leaner cut of beef and it was super tender and delicious. The Reuben bread pudding squares were good and the cabbage was...potent (I do not recommend eating it by itself) but when you ate a bite a cabbage with the steak they complimented each other nicely. I think that was probably the idea but man were me and my husband both in for a shock when we tried the cabbage alone. The top dish was the chicken. And if you're anything like me you're wondering how chicken could be the best thing in the world...well let me tell you. The harissa in the broth gave a wonderful kick of spice and the za'atar flavored the chicken perfectly. Not to mention it was so succulent and juicy, just a perfectly cooked bird. Our waitress told us it was also cooked in the wood fire oven so I don't know if that is the secret of what, but I could honestly eat that chicken weekly with no issues or complaints. It was really just the most amazing thing. The cocktails were ok, I tried what was essentially similar to a margarita but I think I was just disappointed in the lack of heat as there was supposed to be Serrano in there but it was still refreshing as heck thanks to the cucumber. Alfies bourbon smash was good too, a bit tart but the bourbon came through nicely to add some warmth which is what I think they were going for. The ambiance of the place looked super cute, however as we had baby boy and full stroller it was nice that they had seating that could accommodate that by the front. But if you're normal people and not trying to dine with a 5 month old it's super cute and a great place for a date night. All in all it's not a question of IF I would come back it's WHEN the heck am I coming back for that chicken. Lol and off course to try the hummus and I hear the carrots are pretty stellar too. read more

I'm a horrible slacker of a reviewer. Especially when it comes to a place (like this one) that I've visited and enjoyed MANY times. I'm a huge fan/connoisseur of hummus and falafel, and Mediterranean food in general. The hummus here is amazing! Creamy texture, lots of wonderful Mediterranean spices, and a ton of perfect olive oil. I love feta with my hummus, and their feta doesn't disappoint either! I could eat their hummus and feta every day and not get tired of it. Oh, and the pita... The pita is a soft, pillowy, hot deliciousness of whole wheat. I can almost guarantee you will be ordering an extra to go with your generous portion of hummus. My partner and I have not been disappointed with any of the food we've tried here, save for maybe the Fried Panisse & Halloumi. Well, really just the Halloumi, and really only because of the texture. Halloumi is a traditional Cypriot cheese made from a mixture of goat's and sheep's milk. Sounds delicious, but fried as it was, it was a little mushy for our tastes. The rest of the dish was devoured with vigor though, so not horrible by any means. The drinks vary by season, and are exceptional! One of the bartenders was looking for a drink made with prosecco, and I told him that lavender goes very well with prosecco. At my suggestion, he mixed prosecco with lavender, and then added a butterfly pea flower mixture, making the drink a beautiful hue of lavender also. He dubbed the drink "Jessie's Girl" after me, which was very sweet of him! I miss a few of the drinks on the summer mixed drink menu (including this one) and hope they make a come back this year! Happy Hour at the bar is my go to for Ash'Kara, mainly because it lasts 30 minutes longer at the bar. That and I love talking to the fabulous bartenders and other staff that stop by the bar to grab drinks. This is always a special place my man and I go to when we're craving wonderful service, and delicious food and drinks! read more

So...this is a place I never expected to like. This is not a food I thought I would dig. And who would have though that the french fries would be the best fries in the city (they really are, folks)? And, I am a husband, and my wife dragged me here, and now I drag HER here. The HH is fantastic. Wine is $8, Ratio Antidote is $5 (totally a deal for any HH), delicious olives (I hate olives but my wife lives for theirs) are $5, hummus is $5. The aioli is made with the hot sauce, but I recommend in still getting a side of the actual hot sauce ALSO. Trust me. I hope you get Sam as the bartender, as he is cooly laid back and smooth, yet off the target efficient. It is their corporate thing to do the 20% automatic service charge, and I complain, yet the places are still good enough of product that we still go there. Plus, say the word "Ashkara." What a cool word. We are not having kids, but I would definitely consider Ashkara if we hypothetically had a girl. You should too. Of course, if you gave her a nickname, it would be Ash, and that wouldn't fly. Let's move past that. Definitely recommend and see you there. read more

We went on Valentine's Day. The server wasn't the level of attentive/friendly that you would expect from an establishment with these awards and prices. We ordered hummus and the octopus, but the menu did not indicate that the octopus came with hummus so it was a little redundant. The food lacked citrus and a level of freshness you would expect from Mediterranean. The $ 50 lamb dish was slow cooked lamb, no bone, on mash potatoes and vegetables. It was essentially a less flavorful chipotle barbacoa--definitely not worth the price. Drinks were good. Ambiance was ok, men's bathroom urinal was broken. read more

My parents and I were really looking forward to this as it was on the Michelin guide and we've heard some people in the past talk about this place. However, at the end of the meal, we were quite disappointed. The first course was good the hummus was good and the labneh was tasty but the pita was definitely the star. But went downhill after that. The cut of New York strip for the second course was very upsetting for both my dad and I. The dishes itself was lacking in a few areas, the cut wasn't good nor was it filling either. My mom got the chicken dish which was four times bigger than ours and was more filling, but still was missing a few things to put it there, was more like a bowl you'd get from the Cava chain. The dessert portion was good. The baklava was a little on the sweeter side, but it was manageable. Service was very okay server was very far and few between dishes and even forgot a couple things we asked for. After the 20% service charge it was honestly not worth it and we were left disappointed, not sure who from Michelin rated this place but believe the need to reevaluate was not Michelin worthy in our opinions. read more

I waited nearly 3 years to get to Ash'Kara, which was a mistake. The food was truly outstanding, as was the service. Our server steered us through the mezze plates, ensuring we ordered the best of the best. We ended up making a meal of mezze, which was just perfect. We tried the saganaki (THE best), falafel, za'atar fries, boeck, and hupin. They had an ube cocktail on the menu that night called the High Priestess (tequlia/mescal)--beautiful, deep purple, and killer delicious! We also tried a few desserts, both were very good, the chocolate bar was our favorite. I know, doesn't sound interesting, but trust me. The interior isn't much to look at, nor is the patio charming. But the food is so consistently excellent, that can be overlooked. This part of the Highland is parking-challenged, so take an Uber, or park 3 or more blocks from Ash'Kara and enjoy the neighborhood stroll. I've already booked another reservation in a few weeks with some out-of-towners. Ash'Kara is now in my top 5. read more

First off, the decor is beautiful here! We ordered the chicken tagine and a hummus platter with mushroom conserva. Great spot to go for a date or with a small group so you can order and share everything! We had a reservation for Friday at 7:15PM and they seated us immediately. We started with a cocktail, and they let us know that the dishes come out as they are completed versus in a set order, which we didn't mind at all! The baba ganoush (with extra garlic confit on top) was tasty, not the best I've ever had. However the homemade pita is absolutely spectacular! It comes out piping hot fresh from the oven, and it's wonderfully soft and chewy. My partner liked the lamb kofte the most - it's ground and served on a skewer. Very flavorful and had an amazing yogurt sauce and spiced rice on the side! My favorites were the falafel (so crispy!) and the roasted carrots (huge and yet so tender, with a nice crunch from the pistachios and sesame seeds on top). read more

Heyo! Was totally not expecting the fine dining experience I had at Ash'Kara. First, its cute as a button in here with vibrant colors, rugs, decorative lighting and these sort of, indoor cabanas. Alright fine, I admit it... Ash'Kara was initially on my Denver bucket list because I'm a Bachelor/Ben Higgins fan. But it doesn't matter what got be there, I'm just so glad I went. Truly some of the best foods and flavor I've tasted. My fam and I are in town to see my brother and sis-in-law, and before we came, I told them I wanted to go to this restaurant. They were immediately on board as they've been before and were eager to go back. The five of us booked a table for Monday night and were sat at a round, comfy booth in the corner of the restaurant. Each of us made comment about the fantastic decor and overall atmosphere. The interior design mixes lots of soft colored patterns and the relaxed lighting makes for a chill overall ambience. Our server, Casey, was fantastic. There's nothing like a friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable server! He was happy to offer plenty of recommendations and help walk us through the menu in detail (we needed it because it was so hard to decide)! Ash'Kara is all small and shareable plates so each of us chose one to pass. First came the hummus dish with the wood fired pita bread. The dip was smooth and smokey, and the pita was the kind you always need to order extra of so you can mop up the delicious sauces from every dish. Next to the table was the falafel, which sat on top of what they call a ketchup tahina. Can't say I've heard of that sauce before but dang was it good (insert said pita to scoop it all up). The fried cauliflower plate included mango and marinated feta, a combination that was delicious. My favorite came next, the wood roast carrots. Casey recommended those and I'm glad he did! They were glazed, herbed and had pistachio dukka. We went with the tuna kebab, Spanish octopus, and lamb kofte from the "land and sea" section of the menu. All I can say is that we were basically obsessing over the array of flavors. Various red wines, cocktails, and craft beers ordered by the table were the perfect compliments to an fabulous and filling meal. If I lived here, I would certainly be a regular customer! read more
