I have never been more impressed by .... Carrots!!! That's right !!! CARROTS!!! I went out to dinner w my partner and best friend and when she said she was going to order carrots for dinner, I was pretty sus to say the least. But she had been here before so I refrained from passing judgement so earl in dinner. Cut to the chase, these were the BEST carrots I've ever had. Idk if they were glazed or what but they were perfectly cooked, not too mushy, but no crunch either. They were seasoned in idk what but it was something special. Def wasn't a meaty seasoning but not a regular veggie one either. Bottom line it was mouth watering and made me want more!!! It was plated on a bed of this creamy pistachio sauce w some pickled onions. I think the onions were the perfect addition. When you come here after reading this review, please order the carrots. Ps all the other dishes were amazing as well. Other recs include the falafel ( a must have!!! Soft and crunchy and FRESH!!! On a maybe lemon tahini ?? Sorry if that's wrong but also salivatingly amazing ) read more

My husband and I arrived an hour before the dinner menu was offered, but were presented with a decent happy hour menu selection. We sat at the bar and have to say that the food and service were exceptional! The hummus was truly the best I've ever had. My husband ordered a lamb and chicken kabob and said they were cooked perfectly and delicious. We also had the mezze platter which was very tasty. Additionally, they have a wonderful selection of wine. My only negative was being informed of the 20% service charge automatically charged to our bill which was not disclosed beforehand. We tend to tip 20-25% but believe the customer should decide on the tip. After all, a tip is based on the service received and should not be a pre-established amount set by the owner. read more

I've heard a lot of this place from friends and colleagues so decided to go check it out. My first impression was that the ambiance was nice. The interior looked really clean and nice but we wanted to sit outside which was also nice with minimal traffic noise. The food was pretty good. The hummus was very tasty although we couldn't help but wonder "is this all of it?" upon receiving a small, flat plate of it. The tagine was tasty but definitely a fusion as it didn't taste like the tagine I've had at other African places. We thought that the hummus and tagine were on the expensive side. Our server was nice enough but they seemed to be a bit understaffed so waits for ordering and getting items took a bit. She also took my girlfriend's napkin, kind of coughed into it while folding it, and put it back on the table. Weird. The bathrooms are clean and well-stocked. I personally like to mention how the bathrooms are at restaurants because bathrooms tend to say a lot about how a place treats the cleanliness of their kitchen. Overall, probably won't come back here but won't argue against it if friends want to go. read more

Ash'Kara. Is a Hebrew slang that can mean "RIGHT ON" or "Totally." You're welcome! Same day reservation worked out pretty well for us. Dinner. All I can say is we were really satisfied. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees. All were awesome. It's not a big place. It's just perfect. It's cozy enough to be called a date spot maybe? Whatever you end up calling this place it is definitely a foodie spot. They say the proof is in the pudding right? Well my pudding here was the half chicken. This bird was so damn good! Moist and anywhere you bite on this dish it is for sure tasty! It's like this chicken willingly bathe itself in this awesome seasoning. Approach Ashkara with an open mind. If you have not tried Israeli food you will be in for an awesome surprise. It is too good. Lamb Kofte. Super tender beef steeped in this amazing sauce! Saganaki as a starter is a great way to introduce you to their dishes. Low lights. Intimate setting and the noise is not bad. Separated into nooks. My favorite spot is to the right as you walk in. It's a bit darker. If you want to take photos or people watch- then request to be seated in one of the area to the end of the divider from the entrance. The two topper that faces anyone who walks in. Excellent spot to people watch too. Awesome staff and definitely tasty dishes! read more

5 stars -- we had an amazing night at Ash'Kara and I can't wait to go back to try more of the menu. Here's what we ordered: -Drinks: Blueberry Mule and an Apple Cider Mock-tail ⁃Snacks: House Pickles. I'm a huge fan of the cucumber and beets. The carrot was a bit sweet. ⁃Dips: Muhammara (Roasted Red Peppers and Caramelized Walnuts) and added the Herb Marinated Bulgarian Feta. The hubs really enjoyed the wood-fired pitas. ⁃For plates we got the Lamb Kofte and Wood Fired Bass. The Bass was truly the highlight of the meal for me. Served crispy skin side up and topped with a Kalamata Olive Tapenade. It comes with a generous portion of crispy potatoes. ⁃ Sides: Za'atar Fries ⁃Dessert: Chocolate Honey Cake.  So good!! I have no words to describe this cake you just have to experience it for yourself. A few things to know before you go: ⁃The food is meant to be shared and comes as it's ready. Order some drinks and enjoy the experience.   ⁃They require verification of Covid-19 vaccination to dine-in. This is the first time i've been asked for this and it honestly made me love this place even more knowing this simple step helps to create a safer environment for both me and their employees.   ⁃They add a 20% Fair Wage charge to your bill which helps to ensure the entire staff are equitably compensated. I'm definitely here for this!  I've seen some negative reviews  about this but I think it's important to remember that our dining experience is not just the result of a great server but the culmination of everyone, bringing it all together. read more

I came at their happy hour, so my review will be based on that. The ambiance is lovely with middle eastern lanterns and decorations with a modern, trendy feel. Drinks: great cocktails. I had the gin fizz which wasn't quite fizzy but still delicious. My partner enjoyed their old-fashioned. The plates: the OLIVES! These were the best olives I've ever had. I would go back just for the olives. Eating these made me realize why olive oil is so delicious. We also had the Mezze platter which came with one piece of pita (you will probably need at least two pitas if youre eating with more than two people.) Their pita bread seems to be homemade and was perfect to eat with the various spreads. The whipped labneh was my favorite of the three, almost like cream cheese. The chicken kebab was exceptionally cooked and tender. French fries, flavorful. The panisse was also cooked to perfection. 4/5 for the service, which was average overall but a bit slower at the start. 5/5 for the food! The service wasn't so bad that I wouldn't come back for the delicious food. Great value for high-quality food, given we came at happy hour. read more

Arguably the best pita bread we have found in Denver after Safta. ambience was very pleasant. On this super hot day we were able to be seated inside. Service was accommodating. We liked the food. check out the large pita bread oven, resembling a massive Woodfire pizza oven. Street parking only as far as we could tell but that worked pretty well. The high praise they have received is deserved. We didn't quite hit the five star mark with the food but definitely it was good and worth a visit. read more

This restaurant has the most fantastic Mediterranean food that I've come across in Denver. The happy hour offers a great selection at a reasonable price. My partner and I have tried a little bit of everything! One of my favorites, as someone who is primarily a pescatarian 90% of the time, was the lamb kabobs. The flavor & tenderness was melt in your mouth, delicious! In addition, service had always been great, very kind & attentive! read more

First of all, I want to say that the food we had was tasty and well prepared, with the exception of the falafels, which were adequate and nothing to write home about. The service was excellent. So why three stars? Because the prices were ridiculous. As soon as we sat down, our server informed us that everything on the menu was à la carte. When I say everything, I mean... everything. Who goes to a Middle Eastern restaurant and orders hummus without receiving a wonderful basket of pita bread so you can dip your hummus? Same thing for the baba ghanoush. We had falafel ... who goes to a Middle Eastern restaurant and orders falafel and is told you have to pay for the dipping sauce? We ordered two appetizers off the Mezze menu and our bill came to $45. Because they also added compulsory 20% gratuity. And because we had to buy our pita at three dollars each. We did add a little side of mushrooms, which were delicious, by the way. But $12 for a plate of 6 naked ping-pong ball size falafels? Really? So would I come back here? Absolutely not. And I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends either. I think you can get pretty spectacular Mediterranean food elsewhere, fill your bellies with decent size portions, and not walk away having broken the bank. read more

The patio ambiance is nice, but the service was pretty terrible, and the food was not standout. We came in with a reservation. We were seated, and then ignored for about 10-15 minutes (someone brought water, but no one stopped to even take a drink order). Not a great start. The server basically continued to ignore us throughout the night. I am sympathetic if it seems like a person is trying, but that wasn't the case here. No eye contact, and we had to flag her to order food. The dishes came out randomly and one-by-one, which kind of killed the mezze vibe. At the end of the meal, she took away our utensils and then brought a box for one the dishes, leaving us (I guess?) to transfer it into a to-go container with our hands. The cherry on top is that Ash'Kara automatically adds 20% gratuity to all orders (we were a party of 2 and it still applied). Totally fine if the service is good, but we were overcharged for very poor service -- a 20% automatic tip for the worst service I've experienced in the long time. :( The food: we got hummus, falafel, the carrots, lamb, and a couple of cocktails. The food and cocktails were fine, but nothing was excellent. The lamb kofta could have been great, but we got a *tiny* portion of rice (seriously, half the amount of rice compared to other Yelpers' photos). The rice was smothered in 2 acidic sauces, which killed its seasoning. Instead, the whole dish just tasted tart. I liked the blackberry mint mule on the cocktail side and the carrots were tasty, but they randomly arrived at the very end of our meal, so there wasn't really a chance to enjoy them. Long review, but I had high hopes for this place and it sadly didn't deliver. read more

Tasty small plates. Fabulous Atmosphere. Great service. What more could you ask for when meeting up with friends?!? Food: We ordered the Hummus with Charred Onions, House Pickles, Babaganoush, Saganaki (cheese) and the Summer Squash. The hummus was were very tasty and I really liked the addition of the onion. The fresh made wood fired pita was phenomenal! The Saganaki served hot on a cast iron skillet was awesome, but its very heavy so you can only eat so much of it. I especially enjoyed the summer squash. It was lite and filling, but a healthy option. Atmosphere: The interior has a very comfortable and welcoming vibe. We were seated in a u-shaped booth and the intimate seating was great for drinks and lite bites. read more

A friend recently introduced Ash'Kara and it was wonderful! Highly recommend reservations and if the weather is nice, grab a patio table. Dalphenia was our server and she was amazing! Very knowledgeable of the menu and had some amazing recommendations. The team as a whole was great and they all seem to help each other out. My friend and I both did the happy hour rosè sangria and it was so refreshing on the palate. We shared the HH Meze platter and chicken schnitzel slider. Both items are exclusive to the HH menu. Definitely try! For mains she ordered the halibut and I ordered the eggplant Tagine for two. Our server gave me a great recommendation on how to repurpose the leftovers and it was *chefs kiss! Stole a bite of the halibut and it was flaky, well cooked, and so flavorful. Everything here was delightful. We did pass on dessert but I'm sure it wouldn't disappoint! If you're in the area or looking for some tasty fresh eats, be sure to go! You not be disappointed! Happy eats! @platedforkim read more

I don't get all the hype about this place. I moved to Denver recently and so many people said I had to try Ask'Kara. I have gone a few times now and I have consistently been underwhelmed. The service is mediocre at best. While the staff is polite, I have felt that their attitude is such that - we are lucky to be eating at their establishment and we should be grateful for the experience. I have heard this same sentiment from a few friends as well. Now to the food...The two standouts are the roasted carrots and the pita. I like that the carrots are not oversweet or overcooked and retain their texture and flavor. They are served with a yogurt sauce and fresh herbs that complement it well. The pita come out hot and fluffed, like pillows of goodness. I will say, as you can see in the picture it does at times come out burnt. Some of the lesser-liked dishes. I thought that the falafel was just too gritty and had no flavor, it did not help that it was served on the last occasion just above room temperature. It was served with a ketchup tahina which carried the flavor of the dish. The dips including the hummus and muhammara were OK and reminiscent of Trader Joe's refrigerated dips, but at three times the price. So disappointing considering this is an Israeli restaurant. These basic and traditional dishes should be on point. Their dessert selection is minimal and also underwhelming. I last tried the cookie plate and all were quite dry and hard. Overall I give this place a 3. I appreciate that they bring diverse ethnic food to Denver but the service and value for the food are just not there. read more

A very aesthetic place with great ambiance and friendly staff. We showed up with 7 people without a reservation a little before rush hour and they were able to squeeze us in. They let us know we had to finish by X time since there was a reservation coming up. They reminded us kindly through our meal too :) Food: Classic hummus and pita duo were as expected and were good but not amazing. The beef sliders were delicious. The pickles are soooo sooo good. I would buy a jar of their pickles if they sold it. My fav food has to be the empanadas. Not a traditional empanada but it was juicy and packed with so much filling. I recommend this as the appetizer!! read more

Sooo great! The food and ambiance is fabulous. We tried a pasta and steak dish. This spot is perfect for sharing plates.

I've been trying to see this place for months now. Finally got around it and came to their Denver location. Amazing vibe. Tasty drinks and super fresh ingredients. The pita bread is made right in front of you so you can get it hot fresh off the oven. Hummus is delicious and the sandwiches are the bomb. Will have to check out this place again. Only thing that would have made this better is the price. The food was amazing but it felt like the servings could be bigger for the prices. The hummus was INSANE. 6 stars. I loved it. And I'm picky with hummus. The falafel was tasty, not dry, came on top of a tomato tahini I believe. The fries were seasoned with zaatar and had halloumi on top with harissa aioli on the side. SO GOOD. FYI in case you don't know, harissa is a bit spicy! The lamb was also so good and came on top of feta, cucumber, and onion. The pickle plate I didn't like-- they were way too vinegary. I love middle eastern pickles so this was a disappointment for sure. Also I have to dock them for the limited pita. Even with everything we ordered it only included 1 pita so we added an extra and then purchased another on top of that. I appreciate when restaurants just give you a basket! Come on. Lastly, the drinks were so tasty and came out quickly. So did the food. Our waitress was friendly and gave us some recommendations, and the restaurant itself was nicely decorated, had plants, and the tables weren't too close together. read more

the food and ambiance was amazing, truly some of the best mediterranean food i've had, the baklava was absolutely to die for, the service on the other hand was so not good. Me and my boyfriend went for our anniversary dinner as we had heard good things, we had a reservation at 7pm and got a seat within walking in and mentioning our reservation. It wasn't super packed but did have a good amount of people. The manager was super sweet and brought us some sparkling wine and wished us a happy anniversary. We went with the preset course meal and were very excited, the dips were amazing and the pita was so delicious and warm but did take a little to get out to us. Our waitress was also sweet and wished us a happy anniversary while she was taking our orders but once she took our dip plates away after we finished, she didnt come to check on us for over 30 minutes. We were starting to become unhappy especially considering we had done the preset course and had ordered everything when our waitress first came to the table, at this point it had been over an hour since we first ordered. It seemed that the staff were more concerned with prep work than getting people their meals. At one point during the wait the bartender came over and gave us another round of sparkling wine and said "congratulations on whatever you are celebrating or whatever" and walked away. We were baffled by this as everyone before was super nice. We ended up waiting till around 8:15 for our main meals and had spent a good portion before that just sitting and waiting while other people who came in after us got their meals. It even got to a point where we just wanted to pay for the dips and pita we had eaten and go home as we expected not to still be there by then. By the time our main meals came out we weren't even hungry and wanted to pay and go, we did eat there as we were not going to take it home since it probably wouldn't have reheated well. The NYC strip took up a very small amount of the plate with the rest just being potatoes but both were good for what they were. The chicken bowl was yummy and definitely had more food portion wise. They did thank us for waiting and gave me "extra" on my chicken bowl since we waited super long. We ended up getting desert and the check around 8:30 after asking for them to bring them with our meals so we could leave. We also were not the only customers last night to be upset with the wait time of their food as another customer had gone up to the manager mentioning that they had also waited around 30 minutes for their food. By the time we left there were maybe 4 tables with 2 people per table. They also tip 20% for you which can not be opted out of when you pay which me and my boyfriend were a little upset about considering the service wasn't what we were expecting at all. read more

Bit pricy, but food and the atmosphere are always incredibly good. The service is always wonderful as well.

Lackluster. We had high expectations for a friend's birthday and the mark was missed. We had a reservation and were sat on the patio next to many tables that needed to be bussed and sat for almost half of our dining experience. Our server was very rushed, was confusing when answering our questions and provided very minimal table side service. Although the food was, for the most part, spectacular, our pita with the hummus was hardly warm. The charred asparagus came out very undercooked and not charred at all. The dessert for her birthday was good and there was a last minute substitution for strawberries instead of the rhubarb because they had run out. Overall left feeling extremely disappointed read more

This place is great! It's the perfect blend of fancy and casual -- just like I like it. One great thing about it is it's in a very walkable area so you can have your alcoholic beverage and there is something to do afterwards besides drive away -- not that too many people are actually avoiding drinking and driving, but just in case you happen to be one of the people who ... does what's right! Everyone who works there that I encountered was totally great. It's very comfortable -- the music, the decor, the everything is just right. :-) The food is of course very tasty! If I don't feel good in a place, I don't like waiting for my food. I feel trapped and want to leave. This place is just the opposite of that. In fact, I really wanted to go back immediately the next day but I felt embarrassed because I'd be wearing the same clothes since I was travelling and all with very little in the way of attire with me -- I have to say, I regret not going back! It's one of the best places I've eaten at in America. I might have a lot of five-star reviews because if I get what I want somewhere, I'm happy and I'll give them that but this place deserves more! People who come here looking for general Mediterranean or Middle-Eastern fare might be disappointed (I'm not saying I understand that!) as I've read, but ... this is not general Mediterranean of Middle-Eastern food or a vibe! It's inspired by one specific place, even if it branches out from that and for people who are looking for that kind of atmosphere, you can hardly find anything better in the whole country. I'd compare it with Zahav in Philadelphia (or Philly, if you prefer) -- and that means it's really (Yes, I'll say this a third time now!) really GREAT!!!!!!!!!! The level and choice of music was most especially pleasing to me. The waitress I had was fantabulous! Everything was as it should be. Not one single thing could be better!!!!!!!!!! read more

If you want great Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food, Ash'Kara is the spot! I was actually more impressed with their entrees than their mezzes (bold statement I know). Despite not being vegetarian, we ordered all vegetarian dishes. The eggplant tagine made the most impression. They also had a seasonal hummus that was made of English peas and was so good. Of course, nothing beats a fresh out of the oven pitas and boy did they not disappoint. The staff are so friendly and nice! For the owners - I would like to pitch an idea: put in a bar right next to the oven and offer a mezze flight so people can eat the pitas right from the oven. read more

Amazing food, especially the dips! Love the hip vibe and energy. When the weather is nice, their outdoor dining is a must.

I had been meaning to try this place and had heard nothing but good things about it. Turns out it was true! My hubs and I came in at lunch time, so we'll need to return for the dinner offerings. They had a tight, but well appointed wine menu. I started with a greek syrah. My hubs got a beer. At the suggestion of our awesome waiter Isaac, we started with the muhamarra and the saganaki. Both with fresh, delicious, warm pita. Both dishes were super delicious. I got the lamb kofte and my husband got the harvest fattoush salad with lamb. Both were crazy good. Then, baklava. As expected, super tasty. We both ended with a couple glasses of Riesling, because I'm obsessed. Definitely excited to return for dinner. read more

Food itself was a 5 but the service was a 2.5, so unfortunately I have to land at a 3. My friend and I were visiting from out of town and were excited to try this place. The food was delicious, we tried a variety of dips and the falafel and loved them. However, our mains never arrived and the hostess had a bit of attitude the second we walked in which felt unnecessary. When we received our bill, we had to ask to have the items we never received removed from the check, and they didn't offer to compensate anything additional. They also automatically add a 20% gratituity to all their checks regardless of party size, which feels generous given the disappointing service we received. read more
