My husband and I asked some friends to join us for an early dinner on New Years Eve. We have always loved Almresi......but we were so disappointed that evening to where we will not be back....our waitress had just gotten in from Austria and could not have been nicer....but when she brought our favorite dish to share I thought "What". Did not say anything, but should have....the Item was the Schweitzer Rossi which since they opened was enough for two and lovely..what they presented was twice the price and considered an entree with less then half the portion....not only half portion but the "crispy" potatoe cakes were soggy ...I have told people about this dish in Vail, on chairlift rides, etc.....now I have to 'NOT" RECOMMEND this restaurant... read more

AWESOME!!! Wonderful!!!! We enjoyed the kasefondue and then ordered the hot hat - it was such a nice interactive dining meal. As if that wasn't great enough, the service was even better. You can tell they take pride in creating the perfect experience. We had a wonderful bottle of white wine that paired well with everything. What an adorable and authentic Austrian/German experience. We didn't have a reservation so we sat at the bar and had a great bartender from Germany. We ordered the cheese fondue appetizer along with the plate of meat and cheeses. It was all delicious! The only area where I see they could improve is the wine choices. Given they are trying to stick to everything German, their wines were all German and they aren't known for their great wine. the cheapest bottle was over $50 and went to about $200 - for wines youve never heard of. Would prefer more options like French or American wines and more than 6 to chose from. We ended up ordering by the glass and we're glad we didn't pay the bottle prices as they were just OK. Definitely give this place a try though read more

Best German restaurant I've been to - and that's coming from someone that grew up in Vienna and Berlin. We had the pork shank, the short ribs, the Furst Pils, and the Feuerzangenbowle. The pork shank was so tender that the meat fell off the bone, and it was tasty without the typical pork smell. The short ribs were equally marbling and cooked perfectly. The drinks, especially the Fuerzangenbowle, were quite unique and fairly hard to find in the states. Service was second to none. The staff was really friendly and attentive. The ambiance and the decor make you feel like you're actually in Austria, which is nostalgic for someone like me. Would recommend to anyone and would definitely return if I come back to the Vail. read more

My husband and I ate here tonight and had a wonderful experience. The food and atmosphere are exactly what you want when you're tired and hungry after skiing all day. And our server, BJ, was great! I highly recommend the potato pancakes with smoked salmon and cheese. Also, if you like dessert, be sure to try the Austrian carmelized pancake dusted with powdered sugar and fruit. It helps to have the pine schnapps as a digestive before dessert. Definitely a must-try restaurant when you're in Vail Village. read more

I wanted to love this - absolutely beautiful restaurant at the foot of the mountain. Service was excellent and loved the authentic Trachten. We all should have gotten the $14 Bratwurst, Big Pretzel & Beer special lunch that my husband did. Instead, the currywurst sounded great, but it was frankfurters chopped up in a curry soup goop, instead of the traditional brat on a bun with curry ketchup. Not very appetizing. I used to live in Munich and spent lots of time in Germany and Austria, so just not what I was expecting. The Mountain Salad was strange - with an orchid and cantaloupe.... not really easy to eat. Excellent Steigel Beer. Perhaps we just ordered wrong - I'm going back for Gluhwein and another delicious Bavarian Pretzel and the wonderful atmosphere! It's legit! As of now 91 reviews and five stars and I am happy to be the 92nd and also contribute to the five star rating. Everything about this restaurant is on-point: Personnel: Of our interactions with more than half a dozen individuals, to the extent we interacted, they were all incredibly friendly, personable, and knowledgeable on German (and European) fare. The hostess went above and beyond to accommodate our lack of reservations. After our multiple indecisive phone calls regarding reservations we showed up without one and she knew us by name from the calls. The bartenders were friendly, helpful, professional and made excellent drinks. Our waiter, Julian (a student from Germany), provided many thoughtful recommendations and was a joy to interact with. Julian shared with us his belief that all aspects of the dining experience were authentic and, having traveled through Germany, if anything this was better. Presentation: The food presentation was neat and precise. Not usually something that I look at but was impressed with the care taken to set things up in a visually appealing fashion. Venue: The restaurant had a really unique appeal that made you feel more like you were in a mountain cabin than in Vail Village. Lots of wood, even the ceiling panels! Great decorations and a very unique ambiance that was appealing. Deer and antler motif. Can't wait to return to try more of Julian's suggestions. I would recommend this first to anybody I know coming to Vail who wants a special dining experience. This was the cutest restaurant ever and although the food was hit or miss, the ambiance makes up for it. They take reservations but only seat at 5pm and 9pm, but they still might accommodate you if you come in between. My wife and I looked forward with much anticipation after the glowing reviews. It was amplified by it being an ultra special occasion. I had the Schweizer Rösti, described as a Crispy Swiss potato pancake with homemade farmers cheese and smoked salmon. I loved it. Bright. Brilliant. Complete. The blending of the sauces with the potato pancakes... brilliant. Was a happy soul. One of the most satisfying meal experiences in awhile. My wife ordered the Schweinelendche, described as Pork loin with spaetzle and red cabbage. As lovely as my dish was, her was, she was, crestfallen. Her family has owned several restaurants. Stating this as a reference point. The pork in her dish was cooked to perfection. The red cabbage was brilliant. The blending of flavors was however.. Dismal. It did not come together, had no flavor, was a thudding disappointment. What said it all was she remarked that "the mushrooms seemed like they came out of a can". When she said that I knew it was over. We are always prone to supporting wonderful dishes. Mine was lovely. Hers was not just not, but she felt there was a real issue with a canned element. I worked hard to try and resurrect the dish, but she was beyond disappointed. There was no rescuing the meal. As positive as I was about my dish, it was inversely affected by my wife's dish. We rarely give negatives. Always aspiring to the positives. I have to recommend that the service was excellent. Excellent. Unfortunately, as much as we aspire to give positive... my wife's dish was not just unremarkable, it gave her a reason to be disappointed. And not just disappointed... very so.
