The fondue would have been so much better if they didn't add so much wine because the alcohol flavor was too strong. The short rib on its own lacked some flavor but was exponentially better with the red cabbage! The spatzle was also great! What an awesome experience! We had the Austrian hutessen for the first time. It was fun grilling the meats on the"hat" and basting it with the beef broth. The meats we tender and juicy and went well with the sauces and salad. Then we ended with lots of desserts, but the KAISERSCHMARRN was our favorite. HELLOOOO HEALTH INSPECTOR?? This place could use a visit. Absolutely disgusted. We went here just for a few drinks over the holidays. After being seated, we ordered 3 drinks and one diet coke. We sat and waited a bit and then our server brings a pretzel to our table to which we responded, thanks. We assumed this was complimentary, like bread or something but considering some of us were gluten free, we said nothing and just continued with our conversation leaving the pretzel on the table. Our drinks finally arrived(minus the diet coke) to which our server decided to come back with plates. Mind you, we hadn't actually ordered any food and it had been at least 20 min with the pretzel on the table untouched. We asked the server what the plates were for to which he responded: the pretzel. We told him we didn't need plates because we didn't want to eat the pretzel. This is where the biggest issue is. He said oh shoot I brought it to the wrong table, PICKS IT UP AND GIVES IT TO THE TABLE NEXT TO US!!! This is against health code, moral code, and just plain wrong. The server then told them sorry for the wait and asked if it was cold. THEY ATE IT and said yea it's cold and the server offered to bring them another. We told the guys next to us that it had been sitting on our table for 20 min and that it was indeed untouched but this is STILL unacceptable. This is a repulsive business practice. Make sure you watch your food come out of the kitchen and that it didn't come off someone else's table or better yet out of someone else's mouth. My advice, there's much better in vail that are current on their health code practices. Oh and now I should mention, We finally got the diet coke about 10 min before we left after asking for it. read more

During the 4th of July week last year, we discovered the Almresi restaurant. Our dinner was wonderful, and we had an excellent time talking to many people working. We even bought some Christmas gifts at this time for our family! So we looked forward very much to having dinner at Almresi again this year during our annual 4th of July visit to Vail (we had dinner on Tuesday, July 2nd). Unfortunately, we had a miserable time this year, and I wanted to bring it to your attention. The main problem was when our dinners were served, my wife's dinner was correct, but for some reason, my dinner was not what I ordered. Our waiter apologized and said he would have my correct dinner made directly. But I didn't want that. I wanted both dinners to be served at the same time. Instead, my wife nibbled at her dinner while I waited 25 minutes for my correct dinner to arrive. After our waiter came back to our table and told us my correct dinner was being made, I told him I wanted both dinners to be served at the same time. Basically, I wanted my wife's dinner to be remade and served with my dinner. But that did not happen. I was very upset that something like this happened. We looked forward so much to having a great time and dinner at Almresi this 4th of July week like we did last year. My wife thought we should have had some type of discount for such an inconvenience, but to me, the damage was done to ruin the dinner. I did not want a discount - I just wanted to have our diners served at the same time. All our waiter did was saying he was sorry, and then he took off. One other concern was the type of employee you have. Last year, we were told everyone was from Germany (except for one). They were here for a few months, and then others would come from Germany to also work at Almresi. It was so much fun talking to a few of the employees last year - how they got to America, how they liked Vail (and America in general), and just talking to them in general. So I was surprised that our waiter this year said he was ... from Texas!? I realize finding employees is a tremendous challenge. But it was certainly strange to see our waiter wearing lederhosen who was from Texas. We looked forward so much to having dinner at Almresi again this year. Will we have dinner ever again at Almresi? It's hard to say. It will take a lot of time to get over our experience of last Tuesday (July 2nd). read more

I found this place to be a bit contrived. Is it German, Austrian, Swiss? You are greeted by staff in traditional German clothing. The staff were friendly. The food however was fairly bland. Needed salt. I did however like the salmon dish. The desserts were also a let down. I was hoping for amazing strudel but had bland strudel. The service was also little slow. read more

Our friends took us to this "German" restaurant. I was so excited as they had the best salmon dish, potato pancakes. When we arrived we were told they changed the menu. It was now $50.00 a person and you were promised chicken, beef, and brat, vegetable, and salad and dessert was included. What you actually get is thinly cut cheap slices of beef, chunks of chicken and a handful of brats to feed 4 people. The vegetables were a mixed bag of broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes, asparagus, one slice of squash. You then had to cook it yourself in some weak broth or on their small hibachi grills. The ONLY thing that was German food was the handful of slices of brat and the beer. You did get a basket of bread, but if you wanted more, it was an additional $4.00. The dessert was actually a gelato...not too German. The sauces were horseradish sauce or something they called a cocktail sauce. Certainly no spicy mustard or anything else resembling German food. For the eight people,there was probably $30.00 worth of raw food you had to cook yourself. The only good thing was the service. To say that everyone at our table left feeling overcharged, unsatisfied and extremely disappointed. You would get better German food at a hibachi grill...and cheaper! iIf you do decide to go, I am 100% sure you will never go back. Save your money and eat somewhere else read more

Worst service imaginable. My wife and I went with our two kids (7 and 6). Granted we had a late reservation(8:45), but the kids were not the issue. The table next to us ordered the same thing after sitting down 10 minutes after us and received their food 30+ minutes before we did. They were done 15 minutes before we started asking where our food was. They assured us it would be right out and it took another inquiry before the food was served.
