This restaurant is already quite well rated. The main purpose of my review is to let people know that A NEW LOCATION HAS OPENED In SNOWMASS VILLAGE. It is not even on the website for the Basalt location yet nor is it listed as of this writing on Yelp. People, please -- go to this restaurant. It was fantastic. I would like to share my 14 year-old daughter's comments on her entree, which are probably a little over the top, but reflect how much we all enjoyed the meal. She had the chicken schnitzel. "This is the best food I have ever had in a restaurant." "This is the best chicken I have ever had -- sorry mom." "This gives a whole new meaning to the word, 'chicken.' " I had the jager schnitzel (pork) with spaetzle. Very, very good. All of the schnitzels we ordered were very tender, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Spaetzle was delicious. The salads were good as well. I had a "Serbian salad" which at first glance would not seem like it would be much to crow about -- mostly cucumbers -- but somehow, with the heirloom tomatoes and dressing they used, also exceptionally good. Finally, we had the apple strudel. I've never met a strudel that I didn't like, but my wife, who is a bit more discriminating, thought it was one of the best she'd had -- light, buttery, not too heavy. My daughter does not like raisins or nuts in desserts. She said it was so good she didn't care that it had the two things she likes least in desserts in it. A couple of other comments. First, when you think German or Austrian food, you think "heavy." This food was not. It was delicious and satisfying but not heavy at all. Second, for the area, the prices are pretty good. $150 for three people with a la carte salads, entrees, and dessert. The service was great -- very prompt, very attentive, pleasant, but not overdoing. Ambience was nice, except for the fact that it was a little empty, which is a shame that must be rectified by diners in the area reading this review as soon as possible. Finally, not drinking these days, but the beer and wine menus looked pretty darned good. (Which I guess you would expect in a good Austrian restaurant, but at least you know they checked that box as well). On our way from Aspen to Glenwood Springs, this was the perfect spot right off the highway. We grabbed a spot at the bar when the place was pretty empty around 5:30 but the place was completely full by 6:30 on a Saturday. We were shocked they only had 2 employees taking care of the entire dining room and bar but they were doing a great job but never stopped moving! I started with the Sausage Plate Sampler as an appetizer because I wanted/needed to try it! It comes with 3 types of sausage, mustard, potato salad, and sauerkraut and it's all homemade. The potato salad was some of the best I've ever had. I loved the jalapeño sausage and Guinness sausage the best which both had very unique and deep flavors. For my meal, I had the Weiner Schnitzel, which was fantastic. This included a huge pile of mashed potato's and a berry sauce thing (not sure what it's called). I loved the berries for dipping the pork in but you don't get very much of it. Overall, everything was fantastic and the atmosphere truly brought you to Europe. The music, huge beers, great food, and friendly staff were all great. This will be a new favorite for us. read more

This was one of my best meals in 2022. I was in town for work and staying right up the road from this restaurant. Had I visited it early in my trip, I would have eaten dinner here every night. It was that good. Wienerstube is classy yet casual. It has an excellent beer selection which is to be expected. What wasn't expected was just how good the food was. I decided to follow the advice I received long ago from my dad. When you are in a place that specializes in a certain cuisine, get their specialty even if it may seem like you wouldn't like it. That has served me well and most certainly served me well here. I ordered the Jaeger Goulash as my entree and I could not have been happier. Reading the menu and seeing it contained lamb neck made me question my choice. But one bite and I was hooked. Lamb neck for everyone! This dish was perfect. The flavors married together so well that it really blew me away. The service matched the food. Friendly, prompt, and attentive without being overbearing. Couped with the food, location, and beer, this was a perfect experience. I am hopeful that I will be able to travel back to the area next year for work. The money will be nice but the real reason is so I can visit Weinerstube again. read more

This is such a great spot. They do everything right. Ok. They're almost always busy. But in this department they' can still win people over. Like they did with us. They're honest. When we dropped in they were upfront with us and told us that there is a long wait. Short staffed. They're hiring btw. He's right. We waited for our food for about an hour. It didn't feel like it though. The place is alive! The people including the customers are friendly! Big crush on this find. This is a genuine Austrian/German restaurant with a very active bar and food scene. The food is delicious! The scene amazing. They have a great looking patio too. Wienerstube is a unique find in Basalt. With hearty portions of Austrian food paired with a beer stein, you might forget that you are in Willits Town Center. One side of the wall is beautifully covered with a map of Europe, and that is either your cue to be transported away or a reminder that you are still in Basalt. Regardless of where you think you are, make sure you come hungry and prepared for a rich and hearty meal. I have dined here for dinner twice and have tried a few different things on the menu. The pretzel does not sound exciting, but the beer-cheddar crispy bacon dip is addicting. The sausage sampler or bruschetta are a good way to try all of the sausages. The crushed potatoes are simple but delicious and extremely filling. You cannot go wrong with the schnitzel since it is a classic dish. Try the jager schnitzel if you want something richer and with more sauce, and try the jager goulash if you want something different. The jager goulash is a super rich meat stew, and it hardly has a gamey taste. Everything is really good, but the chicken schnitzel is probably my favorite since it is something you can always eat regardless of what mood you are in. No meal is complete without some beer though, and the menu has a lot of European beers that will not find elsewhere in the area. The staff is super nice and friendly. The service can be a little slow, but the staff is very attentive when they are with you. The prices are what you should expect for a nicer restaurant. Wienerstube is a great spot to try something different, and it is a spot that I will keep coming back to. read more

Ate there on 07/04/2024.. I have never eaten or heard of Geman food thay is so spicey!! And in this day and age it is also almost unheard of to over salt food. Take half of the spices from the Chef,, and maybe he could do a little better.. I couldn't understand the Chef's accent very well, but I think he said that I was too old to pay any attention to my opinion!!! Had the sausage plate and it was really good, three different kinds of sausages (Elk Jalapeno Cheddar, Veal Bratwurst and a Beer Sausage) sauerkraut, potato salad, and homemade mustard The food was excellent. I've been in the valley 25 years and can honestly say that the Stube is one of the best. The space is beautiful and the vibe is very relaxed and warm. I'm a bar guy and the bartenders and service have never had me waiting for anything. If you like German or Belgium beers this place is an absolute must stop. Make sure to get the male waiter if you go. We were first sat inside by the woman waitress who was ultra rude and unaccommodating. We had dogs and were eating with someone who is hard of hearing so we asked if we could take the next table outside that opened up and were immediately told no (when our guest arrived and asked the male waiter herself, he obliged). The food was adequate, albeit not extraordinary (I've eaten in both Vienna and Germany so I know the food well).
