this was easily one of the most amazing dining experiences i have had. The food was extraordinary, offering such a unique experience while also providing some of the most delicious meals. What really made the experience special was our server. the gentleman with the mustache was so kind and helpful and made the experience more memorable. he was the highlight of the night. the atmosphere of the restaurant was themed perfectly as well. 100% will be back, this is a cant miss opportunity.

My sister and I went for the cheese fondue after a day of skiing. It is pricey for the amount of food you get and doesn't come with protein. The smell upon entering the restaurant is like a wet dog, but is probably the pungency of the cheese. Definitely a social place, as it was very loud. The aesthetic is charming. Apple streusel was good. Our waiter seemed to be more attentive to larger groups and didn't seem as attentive to us as a pair of guests who weren't drinking alcohol and were splitting fondue and a dessert.

Popped in here for a dessert on a chilly night. It was warm and cozy and we were seated in a comfy booth. The traditional German desserts were incredible and the service was fast! Would love to come back!

We had an amazing time! My family really enjoyed their fondue (although it's super pricey), service was great, and my choices were amazing! Would probably not come back due to the final ticket price, but I would recommend it if you have the chance!

Be prepared to have an event when you dine in! Well that was our experience when we ordered 4 different fondues. All rich and delicious. Our waitress was of German descent (who could speak German if you prefer, and her suggestions were straightforward & helpful. Our large party sat comfortably while enjoying family style and before we knew it a couple of hours passed.

Sigi was an amazing waitress and the atmosphere, food and drinks made for a great meal. You start with baskets of baked pretzels with black salt topped butter. Yum. I tried a medium Weiss beer and it was fantastic. You can get a smaller size or the larger stein depending on how thirsty you are. Swiss Chalet also has many good cocktails. The food is definitely shareable. The Haus salad has butter lettuce with a sour cream dressing. The beet salad is full of red and golden beets along with frisée, pea tendrils and a great dressing. The onion soup has melted cheese on crouton and a broth you savor till the last bite. The fondue is wonderful and there are many options for cheese and meat. We did the suggested Alper fondue and added a sausage sampler and Wiener schnitzel to cut up and dip in the cheese. You do get pieces of bread to dip in your fondue as well as a plate of roasted potatoes and vegetables. It was great for kids too as many of the other tables had families (we went earlier at 5:30pm) A great experience in Vail Village that is worth a dinner during your stay.

I felt like I was in the Swiss Alps with Disney-esque theming that was almost a bit over the top. You get a nice whiff of cheese as you walk into the restaurant. It felt cozy, comforting, and warm. Our waitress was very nice, patient, and timely. Weinberg Schnecken: Probably the best tasting dish, they were warm and flavorful with herbs and butter. Zwiebelsuppe: The onion soup tasted like you'd expect, very typical. Raclette Fondue: Maybe it's just me, but was very mid. Been to another fondue place and had similar thoughts, so maybe I'm not a big fondue guy. The veggies to dip were the best dipping side, but there was very little given. A ton of bread came on the side. Side Sausages: Very very small portion, which just tasted like a hot dog. Overall, the food was mid, but a fondue experience might be worthwhile.

Authentic Swiss experience with good food. The cheese fondue was excellent and on point. Bread could be better though. The escargot was a bit dry. Tartare seasoned heavily. A tad too deep in mustard flavor. Price is $$$-$$$$. We added truffle and champagne to our fondue. The service was attentive and excellent. Located at the Sonnenalp Hotel. Two hour complimentary valet parking with dining. The decor inside is very cute!

    Vegetables included in price

I have been eating at Swiss Chalet for 14+ years and wow how it's changed!! My family or 3 had dinner here this weekend and ordered the classic cheese fondue for 3 ($78 for 2 + $38 for each additional person). Included in the price was bread and vegetables which used to be ample. When we received the food I assumed the server forgot the vegetables for all 3 of us - we got 3 small new potatoes (1 per person), a small piece of broccoli, a small new carrot and 2 twigs of broccoli rape. It looked like a quantity that we each should have received, not to share! Are we really supposed to cut 1 piece of broccoli in thirds?? When I asked the server, she said this was correct. I suggested that for $116 we only got 1 new potato a person?? Totally not worth the price - such a shame, we used to love it here!

The gondola is cool because we had our own speak to play whatever we pleased! It felt very private and intimate which I really enjoyed. I loved the decor throughout the restaurant and our gondola had cute little touches as well. For example they had a coo coo clock that when off every hour. For drinks I tried their feuerzangenbowle and the muled wine. My husband got a Hugo spritz and jagertee. I loved my drinks the feuerzangenbowle uses flambé which was so cool!, it's pretty similar to the muled wine. Muled wine is always a favorite of mine when the weather gets cold! Our server was awesome and super attentive. He answered any questions we had and was very friendly. The gondolas have a set menu we ended up ordering more that was on the set menu since I wanted fondue and my husband wanted the raclette. We added on a fondue, ordered the raclette that came on our fixed menu and added on steak, along with the pretzel that comes as an appetizer. The food was really good, I think it is also just so cozy and suiting for the cold weather! Fondue and raclette are also just such a fun way to dine! Highly recommend and definitely will be back just to try the standard experience too without the gondola.

Slightly limited on options if you don't eat pork but you will find something like the salad with chicken schnitzel to get your schnitzel fix. The spätzle that came with the pork schnitzel was amazing. This was a fun place to come and on our next trip to Vail would like to try the apple strudel dessert that I did not have room for this time.

It is not even on the website for the Basalt location yet nor is it listed as of this writing on Yelp. People, please -- go to this restaurant. It was fantastic. I would like to share my 14 year-old daughter's comments on her entree, which are probably a little over the top, but reflect how much we all enjoyed the meal. She had the chicken schnitzel. "This is the best food I have ever had in a restaurant." "This is the best chicken I have ever had -- sorry mom." "This gives a whole new meaning to the word, 'chicken.' " I had the jager schnitzel (pork) with spaetzle. Very, very good. All of the schnitzels we ordered were very tender, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Spaetzle was delicious. The salads were good as well. I had a "Serbian salad" which at first glance would not seem like it would be much to crow about -- mostly cucumbers -- but somehow, with the heirloom tomatoes and dressing they used, also exceptionally good. Finally, we had the apple strudel. I've never met a strudel that I didn't like, but my wife, who is a bit more discriminating, thought it was one of the best she'd had -- light, buttery, not too heavy. My daughter does not like raisins or nuts in desserts. She said it was so good she didn't care that it had the two things she likes least in desserts in it. A couple of other comments. First, when you think German or Austrian food, you think "heavy." This food was not. It was delicious and satisfying but not heavy at all. Second, for the area, the prices are pretty good. $150 for three people with a la carte salads, entrees, and dessert. The service was great -- very prompt, very attentive, pleasant, but not overdoing. Ambience was nice, except for the fact that it was a little empty, which is a shame that must be rectified by diners in the area reading this review as soon as possible. Finally, not drinking these days, but the beer and wine menus looked pretty darned good. (Which I guess you would expect in a good Austrian restaurant, but at least you know they checked that box as well). Simple, perfectly executed menu, family friendly, not too expensive, light and satisfying Austrian food. Go.
