Their spicy Tom Yum is the best broth I have ever had in my life. I swear on my death bed I will be thinking of this broth. Here I got the Ajisen classic, a few pieces of beef and half an egg. They need to bring back the Tom Yum breaded shrimp (omg so good). Also have to give kudos to this place for having amazing curry rice (at least back in the day when I had it) with lots of veggies and flavor.

Quick and hearty bowl of ramen Food: Had the Ajisen Ramen for their Ajisen Day. The bowl was nicely filled with a rich pork broth and nice chewy ramen noodles with great mouthfeel. The eggs were also done well, soft-boiled with a custardy yolk. However, the wood ear mushroom threw off the balance of the bowl a bit, and would have liked to see another half of an egg and more richness in the broth. Service: The staff handling my order was very friendly and was super efficient, my bowl was out within 5 minutes or so. Great for a quick lunch! Atmosphere: The place was spacious enough for small groups or families, and was not too loud as there weren't too many guests yet.

Loved the Carlton and church location Spicy chicken ramen was great This Spadina location had a gross version; terrible cuts of chicken, lot of it should go in the garbage Disappointing Send the cooks to check out the other location

I've checked all the ramen joints within a lunchtime walk of my place and Ajisen is my favorite one! For a couple reasons... Firstly, the atmosphere is very diner-like. Quite casual with all types of people noshing out. Families, students, oldsters, everyone seems to be drawn to this place. The walls look worn out, and covered with layers of use and love. Plus the owner dude seems very friendly and omni-present which gives it that family feels. The menu is quite legible and noob-friendly as well. Everything to love is right there. Plus meat. Lots of meat on the menu, including sizzling steak, and my fav ramen, the pork ribs, yum! Prices are average, with the pork rib ramen around $13 and seemed cheaper when I checked out, but maybe it's because I paid cash, dunno. The sizzling steak dish is around $16 so pretty good considering steak. Order whatever sides you want, without feeling like you're losing a limb at the cash counter. The other impressive thing is the service, wow so quick! They pump out the ramen like it's nobody's business. Fresh and hot, to make the most of your lunch time meal. Now, during patio-only season, there's a tent setup right out front so you can dine at a table just like the before-times, but under a tent roof so you can feel like you are at somebody's wedding, except you're on a dirty ole Spadina sidewalk, huzzah!

There are a couple of major things I did not like during my dining experience here. 1st was that they were not as strict in complying with the proof of vaccination requirement. The employee initially just asked us to show our vaccination proof. While we were fidgeting around looking for it, the person just mentioned that he trusts that we have it and we can just go ahead inside. It made it faster and convenient, yes; but it defeats the purpose of having that requirement. The other thing was that I personally did not like how the attitude of the servers were. It was all-business, and there was no attempt to provide exceptional treatment other than the minimim required. The person serving our table also seemed impatient and it was showing when he came to check if we were ready to order. I personally find it improper if waiters rush customers to take orders. Also, the gesture of how our waiter took our menus after ordering was rude as well. Food was not perfect. My ramen's noodle texture is not tender and was coming off hard. My pork katsu's covering or breading was also falling off and eventually separated completely. There were a lot of things I found negative when I dined here. I will not recommend this ramen place with how it is right now.

We went to the new location on 2359 Yonge Street (not on Yelp yet) and it was so good we went back a second time! The staff is super friendly and attentive and the ramen is always delicious. I ordered the miso pork ramen and it was excellent both times. The inside of the midtown location is also very well decorated. There is a nice mural on the wall and lots of seating. Definitely one of our go to ramen spots in Midtown!

I think by this point in my life, I can safely say I really enjoy ramen. My latest ramen experience was at ajisen on spadina. I love their abundant choices on the menu. And you can also choose your own soup base as well. For myself, I went with a dish that was featured on the menu - black garlic beef teppanyaki ramen. Let's dissect: Soup - flavourful and garlicky Half an egg - why not whole?! Beansprouts - not overcooked. There's that slightly crispy crunch to it Noodles - smooth texture Beef - OMG melty tender juicy tasty Size - big bowl good quantity Writing about it now makes me want to have it again now. Service is energetic and friendly. Food was brought to us promptly. The restaurant has a cheerful ambiance. Great place.

So, there are apparently over 700 Ajisen locations in the world. We came to this location twice on our Toronto trip because we loved it that much. It was a great lunch option after walking around Toronto. The decor in here is modern, but casual. Our family tried some of their ramen flavors, and the best one was their pork (tonkotsu) ramen. It has a milky broth; flavorful and plentiful slices of pork; and a creamy onsen egg. Their noodles weren't bad, but could've had better texture. What we really loved was being able to add unlimited amounts of fried garlic and chili pepper to our ramens to give it even more flavor and kick. A couple of other items that were good were their pan fried gyoza and tom yum ramen. The gyoza was crispy on the outside, and packed with pork filling in the inside. They didn't skimp on the amount of chives they placed into their filling either. The gyoza went well with their dipping sauce. The tom yum ramen broth was tangy, sour, and had a spicy kick to it. I would've loved this soup as a side item. But, with Ajisen's noodles, it didn't seem like a ramen. It was still quite tasty, though. If you're anywhere close to an Ajisen in Toronto, or the rest of the world, it's worth checking them out for lunch, or even dinner.

I was walking around the area few months back and was craving some ramen.. opened up google and chose a place I thought was appealing. I decided to take a chance on Ajisen and was super glad I did because the staff at this location are so sweet. The food is so tasty and broth is delicious on its own! I do recommend if you love ramen. I keep coming back when I get the chance :)

a NO for me The location is in a very dirty and not pleasant neighbourhood. The place is fine, but not the cleanest and has a too much of a clumsy interior. The food was why I gave 3 stars. It is not bad, but did not leave an impression of "WOW' effect. The prices are pretty expensive and defo do not correlate with food quality. The staff did not pay attention to vaccines for sure and service was ok. I will not come back here.

    Miso veggie Ramen

I don't understand the hype about this place! I heard from a couple of friends how Ajisen is a goto Ramen place. It's located in Chinatown and was pretty full when i entered on a Friday might. I wanted to avoid non vegetarian food and so I opted for the miso based veggie Ramen. Now I know that that's not the best choice for Ramen but I thoroughly enjoyed the soup while the veggies were tossed in quite a spicy sauce (not that I mind). The other orders were a pork belly Ramen and the spicy chciken Ramen. Being the greedy person that I am, I tried both the Ramens and honestly it did not meet my expectations. I expected more because of the number of times I heard about this place from friends. I would rather go to Hokkaido in downtown for Ramen. I am nuts about Taro tea so I ordered one and I must say that their Taro tea with Boba was excellent! Maybe not for Ramen but I Will definitely be back for the tea. Oh yeah and another thing.. Don't expect courteous behavior from the servers. Our server literally forgot to take our order for good 25 mins after being seated. Multiple attempts were made to call our waitress to place the order.

I'm actually quite surprised how busy this place gets. The tables are packed really close together, and trying to get in or out of your seat without moving too close to someone else's meal is quite a challenge. If you need space, this place might be a bit of a problem. Ordered a tom yom teppanyaki chicken ramen cause what the heck. The broth is just full of shrimp paste that you can get from the grocery, so it's pretty terrible. The noodles are generic thin noodles that doesn't have much texture to it. And the portion size is pretty small as well. The chicken came with maybe 6 pieces, which was already less than the pics shown. It had this texture that was like as if they cooked it, left it out, and then recooked it. For what you're paying for, if you're looking for noodle soup, just go to one of the chinese noodle shops. At least, you get some chewy noodles there and paying less for more.

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

Last Tuesday, I had my monthly 7 am meeting with a bunch of technical writing peers from around the world. It's quite the meeting that typically lasts for four hours. Luckily, we ended earlier than usual. It meant that my workday ended at around 3:30 pm. It was perfect, as I had a concert to attend several hours later. Normally, I don't do dinner before a concert. I grab a quick bite to each before I head downtown. This time, since I was done work early, I felt that having an early dinner was worthwhile. I drove downtown and parked in a lot that seems to be my usual spot whenever I'm attending a concert at Massey Hall. My original plan was to find an eatery close to the concert venue. I spotted Hokkaido Ramen Santouka steps away. I wanted ramen! I walked in and there was a sign that said to wait. I had no wait time. A woman and the entire staff greeted me. I asked for a table for me and got one. It was great. Seating between tables and diners is close together. You definitely overhear conversations and you can't help it. The man next to me had stretched his foot under my table. I didn't notice that he was in my space until I uncrossed my leg and my foot hit his. I listened to two friends next to me. The man seemed to take charge over what he and his female friend should eat, which was interesting. He gave the impression that he was an expert until the server came over and he had a ton of questions. It's always fun being an observer and listener. I had no choice but to listen to her dating experiences. I got a menu. I knew what I wanted. My server came over and was ready to take my order. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Miso chachu ramen, with bamboo shoot held - Jammy egg and corn as extra toppings The menu doesn't tell you what ingredients you get in each type of ramen. However, it does come with a photo. I asked how large a large bowl of ramen was. My server was great pointing up to a display of three bowls. I went large. The photo indicated that my miso ramen had bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of them, so I asked that they be omitted. I also added a jammy egg and corn. I got a cold can of Diet Coke. A frosted glass with ice accompanied it. I was happy. I love an icy cold drink. This one was excellent. I loved that it was extra cold. My bowl of ramen had arrived. I was excited to dive in. My miso chachu ramen was delicious. The miso flavour was on point. I drank most of the broth, which speaks volumes on how yummy it was. The chachu was tender and had the best balance of pork and fattiness. The number of slices was generous. The ramen was chewy and perfectly done. I loved the corn and jammy egg. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed my ramen without these two key toppings. They worked nicely with the green onions. What prevents me from giving this place a perfect rating is flagging a server to get me water, or to frankly flag any staffer for something, such as ordering dessert or getting the bill. It took effort and hand-waving to get their attention. It took two tries to get a glass of water with ice. I was happy when I got some after I had finished my Diet Coke. It was equally as cold and yummy. I ordered dessert. The menu is stuck on each table. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There were two flavours and I went with matcha. It was rich, creamy, and full of strong matcha flavour. The scoop of ice cream was generous. I loved the small spoon, which allowed this dessert to last a lot longer. I asked for the bill. I got a payment machine. I used my credit card to pay and tip. All was great. I used the washroom before I headed over to explore the downtown area. The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so accessibility is an issue. There are two single-stall washrooms. The one that I used was clean. Because it's an older building, the ceiling is low. I am just shy of six feet in height. I made it without hitting my head on the ceiling. If you are six feet and taller, you'll need to duck to make sure you don't bang your head. Staff say goodbye to you when you leave. It was a nice touch, although I don't know what they are saying to me in Japanese. They could be swearing at me and I wouldn't know. I had a wonderful experience here. If you don't mind sitting close to folks and waving your arms like a maniac to get your server's attention, come here. This ramen joint appeared as a Michelin place in 2017. I can see why. The food quality is excellent. (200)
