I recently came back on a late thursday night with a friend after a session of badminton. It was one of the only places around that was still open. I was initially reluctant because my previous experiences at this resto made me think that Ajisen as a franchise was just ok overall. Steak teppanyaki: Was actually cooked medium rare! The end pieces were still a lil tough due to the cut and quality of the beef prolly not being the greatest but it was juicy and I got my protein in. Black garlic tender pork ribs ramen: So you can change your broth at Ajisen which is pretty cool. This was supposed to come w/ the original broth but I asked to swap for black garlic tonkotsu broth. The noodles were surprisingly firmer compared to my previous visits and the broth actually came out piping hot as opposed to lukewarm. Idk if they just hired new/better chefs in the back or if late night is when they serve the best grub. Either way, I received significantly better food than the last couple times I visited this place way back. The other thing I really liked was the tableside fried garlic that you could top up your bowl with. I literally unscrewed the lid and emptied out a third of the fried garlics into my bowl. SOOO GOOD. Although it was an improved experience, I still don't think the ramen is better than an authentic ramen spot. For that, I award 3.5 stars. read more

Presented to me as a "Hidden Gem" in markham, It's safe to say Ajisen Ramen is simply simple, a basic and expected meal. The menu selection suffers from a pork bias. The broth was adequate, but like I said nothing special, and for the price of a 20$ bowl of soup one would think a full egg appropriate, but alas inflation hath stolen half. On the other hand, there weren't too many options for vegetarians except for the fried tofu ramen - I wish they would have an option to customize the noodles as well. Service was pretty standard although we did have to work hard to get our bills. Oh, and the tea was delicious, but again we did not manage to get it refilled. Went to the Ajax location and got scammed. I just got scammed by this company who took advantage of me as I brought my two young children. I took my young kids, there was the anniversary special, when we got in I was told that it was buy one get one and I asked if I can take out the food they said that I would have to pay full price for takeout as it was buy one get one. So I ordered two for myself not to waste the deal and one for each child and ate in restaurant. I made sure to ask the waitress if this was buy one get one and they said yes. So I ordered 4 ramen for the table and one for takeout as they told me we couldn't pack up what the kids couldn't finish because of the buy one get one deal. When the bill came I was told it was all full price. I didn't want to argue as my kids were stressed out so I left, only to be scammed while they laughed. This was disgraceful. So instead of paying for 3 I paid for 5. Buyer be ware, they saw I was having a hard time with my kids and decided to make a few extra dollars off me. Got the Tom Yum Steak Ramen Rib eye steak served on a sizzling plate, corn, bean sprouts, green onions but switched the TOM YUM soup for Black Garlic! It hit the spot. The choices are simple with some mix and match to make your ideal combo, the service is quick, the food comes promptly and a meal will take you less than 20 minutes if you are fast about it. My partner had the pork katsu ramen in tomyum soup while I had the fried chicken ramen in black garlic soup. Both were hearty and comforting. The ramen noodles were springy while the soup was flavorful without being too salty. The fried chicken confused me for a moment because the outside batter was a thick, but it stayed crispy while the chicken inside was moist. So not a bad fried chicken overall. This has been my go to ramen restaurant for a while now. Their ramens are always extremely delicious and very flavourful. My favorite is their spicy beef ramen. Their gyoza is also Higleyrecommended. Went for dinner (on Yonge ) Today. Noodles were only up to the half of the bowl , fried shrimps were so hard and puny..did not have ketchup! Appetizer came after we finish ramen.. miso broth sold out..soy sauce broth was "white!" How could it be white soy sauce? I love ramen. I frequented two restaurants often to get my fix. The first one recently changed ownership. It is now an all-you-can-eat joint and it completely dropped ramen off its menu. The other one that was a five-minute drive from my home has closed. Today's mission? To find a yummy ramen place to call my usual hangout when I crave it. I have found it! I have dined at the Yonge Street location a few times. The one in Markham is the latest addition. I went in at 3 pm, after my dentist appointment. It wasn't busy, so I highly recommend dropping by during off-peak hours. The lunch specials are good until 5:30 pm, which is great for someone like me who takes lunch late. What was impressive was seeing gyoza in pan-fried, deep-fried, and boiled varieties. I went with the former. You get three for $1.99. It was the perfect appetizer. I then ordered the number 5 item off the menu, which was corn with pork ramen. I am a huge corn fan. It came with mushrooms, half a soya hard-boiled egg, three slices of pork, bean sprouts, and thin ramen noodles in a salted soup base. The verdict? It was so delicious that I finished the soup base. I rarely do that! The portion size was perfect for me. If you are a protein lover, you may want to order extra pork. I had gyoza as an appetizer, so I was good. I saw a couple of customers ordering ramen to go. I will be giving that a try next time. The washrooms aren't in the best shape, which is the only reason why I am not giving this place a perfect rating. I will be back for more yummy ramen goodness. read more

I never get cravings for ramen but my friends love it, so I kind of just tag along whenever they go. Thankfully ajisen offers more than just soup. That's why I opted for a rice dish! I ordered the beef curry and I guess it was pretty good. No complaints. It wasn't amazing but it was still tasty. However, my one friend that tried some of my curry thought it was amazing. It comes with flanked beef and not cubed beef, like I thought it would be. This didn't bother me that much though. It is a good serving and comes with a miso soup and pickled cucumbers (see my pic!). I go here when I have a specific craving for curry, because I just really like their Japanese curry! It is not too strong and a bit sweet. My beau always chooses the kimchi ramen when he is here, but I am not a ramen person to be honest, because I never like meat-based or fatty pork broth that is commonly used in most ramen soups and vegetarian ramens are usually just giraffe food with noodles for me. Nothing fancy just pure craving. I used to go here more to finish off collecting my stamps, so I can get one free bowl, but now that I have done so, I have less incentive to go back anytime soon. Each stamp takes $10 to earn and you need more than 10, but since most of the items there are cheaper than $10, you pretty much have to have add-ons or come here with friends to really stamps faster. Cold rainy day. The guys at work make an excellent call to get some Ramen. I love asian noodles , tom yum, laksa, pho but Ramen has always been one that would be my last choice. Till now... The broth was not as spicy as i thought but there was definitely a heavy dose of black pepper. Noticable amount but the broth is so good that it did not bother me. I ate the whole thing. Didnt leave a drop of the broth either. We also got the filet mignon in a sizzler. Was great on its own. Beef tepenyaki was shredded well and had a great soy taste. Ended the meal with a nice Ramune Strawberry drink. The challenge was to figure out how to open it. The marble inside was a nice novelty. This is one of the go-to ramen places in Scarborough! They're good but not "OMG I LOVE THIS PLACE I NEED TO GO BACK!" type of good. It's decent ramen place, the space is quite small and you can tell the place is old. But if you need a quick ramen fix, this is a good spot to choose! For the noodle.. of course the Ajisen Spicy Pork Noodle ($7.50) level 150. I was tempted to try the 200... But I have to tell you 150 is pretty good... yes after 4 hours eating that bowl of noodles.. I can still feel there is this fire in my tummy....(is it a heart burn??) The soup based is really flavoured and the noodle not soggy and have a good texture... The pork is really tender and tasty... but there is only 2 little piece.. haha.. it must be good if I complain that there is too little?? My cousin and his girlfriend came from New York and really wanted Ramen. He googled and Ajisen came up. I met him there which was kind of a mission because the area was so jammed! Right around Pacific mall at Warden and Steeles... watch yourself if you're driving. This place was kind of hidden in the plaza there was jam backed with other restaurants. Now for the food - we got edamame to start, pretty standard. I got the spicy chicken ramen and my cousin and his girlfriend both got pork ramen. I thought it was great. The broth was flavourful and spicy, the chicken was cooked very well and not dry and there was a lot of noodles. Personally I like pho rice noodles better but this wasn't bad. You can get a good portioned plate or bowl for between $10-$15. The staff were also so nice. We didn't have the chase them down for anything. They came with extra napkins, the food was prompt even though it was busy and they accept cash and credit. As my first ramen experience, I was happy and so were my family. read more

This isn't really my go to place if I want Ramen, simply because there are so many other options now that offer better noodles or value. While I love the broth here, I am not a fan of the noodles. There's better options and the pricing doesn't seem that different for what you're getting. Just depends on what you're personally looking for. I went to Ajisen Ramen for lunch and ordered the Filet Mignon Ramen which is traditionally served with the pork-based ramen broth. Since I don't eat pork they were very accommodating and used the spicy miso broth instead. The filet mignon was super tender and delicious and I liked the addition of the bean sprouts. I also ordered the spring rolls which was part of the lunch special - they were super crispy which I enjoyed and came with a dipping sauce. Ajisen also has a loyalty program where for every $10 you spend, you get 1 stamp that goes towards getting a free bowl of ramen. I noticed there is a really great value lunch deal - when you purchase an entree, an appetizer is half price! I didn't personally get this offer, but I noticed a lady who ordered an appetizer and the portion is quite big!! I highly recommend getting the BBQ pork and corn ramen, since it comes with so many toppings for the cheap price of $10.99. There are also seasonings offered on the side at the table, my favorite being the fried garlic!! It makes the broth ten times more flavorful, and even better THERES NO MSG! They do have nice settings, and the outside light would contribute to the restaurant's lighting. I like how the chilli powder was accessible just behind me. Since it was my first time at Ajisen ramen, I ordered what I think to be their original ramen, the "Ajisen ramen". It comes with pork, half an egg, black fungus and beansprouts. The taste is different from other ramen places I've had, but it was still tasty and yummy. The egg is more like hard boiled egg with the yolk fully cooked, unlike other places. As usual, I enjoyed both the noodles and the soup. Their price is a little higher than where I usually go, but they have a large selection of items in their menu.
