    Lobster Ramen (with tamago/egg)
    Takeshi K.

I've visited this place many times but unfortunately, it hasn't lived up to what it used to be. Although the ramen is pretty decent, I think the lobster ramen and the intense shoyu ramen became less rich in flavor. It's a shame because they differentiate the intense shoyu and mild shio, but it's no longer intense. I can't say for certain about other ramen dishes, but the lobster ramen got smaller in size and more expennsive as well. The upside is that they made the noodles thicker, but because the soup is not as rich, it thicker noodles don't pick up the broth as well. And unfortunately, the broth was also not that hot. The service is still good though.

This ramen chain is from Japan & has Japanese staff & service. Lobster ramen was excellent - really rich & lobstery. It had 2 types of chashu in addition to the generous lobster portion. I forgot to fish the egg out at the start so it was slightly overcooked. It tasted decent. Lobster gyōza was good: juicy, fresh, bouncy & with lots of lobster. The sauce was super rich & lobstery. You can order drinks & desserts from Saryo, the cafe sharing the space. Matcha soft serve was very good - rich, creamy & with a good matcha flavour. Hojicha cream latte was good, but I wouldn't pay for the cream topping.

Located on Yonge street across from North York centre, this location has a slightly differently menu with less options of rice dishes but more options for desserts then the Yorkdale location. They have combo options that come with rice dish, pickled vegetable side dish, soup and dessert for 20 bucks which is actually a decent deal. Despite it not being busy, service was a little off. We had ordered a gyoza appetizer that was taking forever to come out. When we flagged down the waitress she mistakenly thought we wanted the bill and brought our bill, we then pointed out that we didn't get the appetizer even though it was listed on our bill. About 8 minutes later, after all the mains had been finished we finally got our gyozas. Quality of food was still very good and consistent with what we experienced at Yorkdale. Service was just a little off this time.

Signature clam broth ramen had a very unique broth. It was light but also packed with flavour. Service was good however we were not able to order beers since the machine was not working.

Very rich clam soup base!! The waitress is sooooo nice and helpful! The atmosphere is perfect for a weekend date Hojicha ice cream was sooo good too! Love it!

Visited this place again. Looks like the last time I came was in 2017 and I left a poor review. This time I ordered the clam shio ramen. From the small thin pieces of chashu to the fairly small portion of food even with the upsize, at $25 it's hard to justify. Perhaps the quality of the ingredients makes it stand out (truffles and clams?), or perhaps the process involved in preparing the ingredients and broth themselves (sous vide?). The broth is nice but overall I still don't understand the hype. The bowl of pho I had yesterday felt much more satisfying.

Spicy tonkotsu ramen with additional tofu nugget topping.

I came here with some friends prior to seeing a movie around 6 and were promptly seated. I hadn't eaten ramen in awhile and wanted something slightly spicy so I opted to get the spicy tonkotsu ramen with additional tofu nuggets toppings. The portion size is decent. The broth had lots of flavour and was not too heavy, and I didn't feel queasy after drinking it as some ramen places make you feel. The egg and noodles were cooked just right, noodles had a nice chewy texture without being soggy, and well the egg cooked as I wanted it to be. The pork was also nice, still a little tender. The broth had a nice spicy kick to it, that left me wanting to finish the whole bowl.

Got my favourite intense shoyu ramen! The broth is so rich and flavourful. It's my go-to order. The egg is so creamy and always cooked perfectly - a must add! Service was pretty good, the food came out really quick as well. We were a group of 5 and they were able to split the bill for us amongst the table. It's a bit on the pricier side for ramen, our bill came to a little under $60 for two bowls of ramen.

This ramen place is located in North York close to the North York Centre subway station. Street parking available on Yonge St or side street. $4 hr for street parking. There's a Saryo Japanese dessert cafe at the front and ramen restaurant in the back. There is a large community bar table in the middle with bar chairs and small tables on each side. The aisles between the bar table and dining tables are narrow. My jacket kept getting pushed around everytime someone walked by. Not a great start. We ordered a few appetizers. Chicken karaage, edamame, fried King mushroom. The chicken was crispy and juicy and served with wasabi mayo. Probably the best appetizer of the 3. The edamame were as advertised nothing special. The King mushrooms were thinly sliced and crunchy. I wasn't really impressed and would not order it again. Now for the ramen my wife ordered the Smoky black Tonkatsu ramen $15.50 regular size ($20.50 for supersize). The cloudy pork bone broth was rich and flavorful however the soup was not served piping hot. There were 2 slices of pork chashu, some cherry tomatoes. The bowl was missing smoked ground pork and pancetta as mentioned in the menu description. The noodles were cooked properly. They charge extra $2 for a boiled egg $17.50 for regular size. My signature clam broth ramen ($15.50 regular + $2 boiled egg) was brown clear broth. They put my egg in my nephew's order by mistake. There were 2 slices of chashu in the bowl. Very small portions of porcini flakes. Overall the broth was also very flavorful and rich. Overall, I would say the portions were small and I didn't see the value in paying $17.50 per person. Maybe this was an off day for the kitchen. The main orders did not come out at the same time. It would be nice to be able to eat at the same time with your guests. If you have a big appetite I suggest going with the supersize. You are paying a premium for the fancy ingredients like truffle oil, porcini flakes, clam broth, etc. I have tried other ramen restaurants and I personally would not come back here. The service was just adequate. They did refill our glasses of water but nobody came by to ask if we are enjoying our food. I know most businesses are still short staff but I suggest better teamwork and coordination with the kitchen and serving staff to improve overall customer experience.

I have heard about this place for years from friends but finally gave it a proper try by ordering their takeout ramens. They offer very solid food quality, with thicker (slightly better) soup base compared to other ramen places nearby such as Sansotei and Kinton. Some of the dishes here are impressive. We tried their wagyu ramen, smokey black tonkatsu ramen and signature clam shio ramen. Unlike its name and its appearance, the Smokey black tonkatsu ramen has the lightest flavour of soup among the three. The clam soup base tastes very refreshing and interesting, with medium thickness level in the soup base. I like the soup, but the meat tastes a bit dry and old. The most impressive dish is the wagyu ramen. The flavour of the soup is very strong, with great quality of wagyu meat being cooked to medium (texture is perfect). I would definitely recommend this place and revisit.

The moment there is a slight chill in the air, I suddenly crave ramen. We checked out this spot on a whim and had a really good experience. We both got the Smokey Black Tonkotsu Ramen and it hit the spot. The ramen is thin but had a great texture, the creamy soup had plenty of flavor without being too salty and I really liked the addition of the smokey tomatoes. They are juicy and firm like a fresh tomato but has a lovely smoke charchoal flavor. Really nice and the first time I've had anything like it. All future ramen will be missing something without it. Wish they had more garlic oil as the picture had it filling half the bowl..... the actual bowl only has a dribble of it. Note that egg is extra!

Well, since arriving in Toronto, the craving for Ramen always exists I remember there was a branch of Konjiki Ramen in Markham the last time I was in town back in 2021. Unfortunately it was mid covid and there was a lockdown, so takeaway was the only choice. What is more unfortunate is that the Markham location had permanently closed before I came back to Toronto. I thought I might have missed the chance to dine in at the place ‍ You know what, missing the chance to dine in at the Michelin one-star restaurant is really gutted. But luckily, a few weeks ago when I was visiting a Christmas Market on Yonge. I found that there is another branch just right across the street. I knew I wouldn't miss it this time. Instead of having the signature clam broth ramen, I decided to go for the premium wagyu ramen (tried my luck since it's limited quantity, and I'm the lucky guy ) I would say it's worth every penny. The ramen itself is excellent, maybe the best of all ramen I've had in Toronto so far! And the waygu, including the wagyu striploin, tendon as well as brisket. Well the portion was generous; and most importantly, wagyu beef was tender, flavorful and delicious! Nothing I can complain about. If you haven't tried it, this place is a must-go, trust me!

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

Reach ten stamps and you get a free bowl of ramen. - The chashu is excellent! My rating is 4.5 stars. I'm rounding down. Last Tuesday, I had my monthly 7 am meeting with a bunch of technical writing peers from around the world. It's quite the meeting that typically lasts for four hours. Luckily, we ended earlier than usual. It meant that my workday ended at around 3:30 pm. It was perfect, as I had a concert to attend several hours later. Normally, I don't do dinner before a concert. I grab a quick bite to each before I head downtown. This time, since I was done work early, I felt that having an early dinner was worthwhile. I drove downtown and parked in a lot that seems to be my usual spot whenever I'm attending a concert at Massey Hall. My original plan was to find an eatery close to the concert venue. I spotted Hokkaido Ramen Santouka steps away. I wanted ramen! I walked in and there was a sign that said to wait. I had no wait time. A woman and the entire staff greeted me. I asked for a table for me and got one. It was great. Seating between tables and diners is close together. You definitely overhear conversations and you can't help it. The man next to me had stretched his foot under my table. I didn't notice that he was in my space until I uncrossed my leg and my foot hit his. I listened to two friends next to me. The man seemed to take charge over what he and his female friend should eat, which was interesting. He gave the impression that he was an expert until the server came over and he had a ton of questions. It's always fun being an observer and listener. I had no choice but to listen to her dating experiences. I got a menu. I knew what I wanted. My server came over and was ready to take my order. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Miso chachu ramen, with bamboo shoot held - Jammy egg and corn as extra toppings The menu doesn't tell you what ingredients you get in each type of ramen. However, it does come with a photo. I asked how large a large bowl of ramen was. My server was great pointing up to a display of three bowls. I went large. The photo indicated that my miso ramen had bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of them, so I asked that they be omitted. I also added a jammy egg and corn. I got a cold can of Diet Coke. A frosted glass with ice accompanied it. I was happy. I love an icy cold drink. This one was excellent. I loved that it was extra cold. My bowl of ramen had arrived. I was excited to dive in. My miso chachu ramen was delicious. The miso flavour was on point. I drank most of the broth, which speaks volumes on how yummy it was. The chachu was tender and had the best balance of pork and fattiness. The number of slices was generous. The ramen was chewy and perfectly done. I loved the corn and jammy egg. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed my ramen without these two key toppings. They worked nicely with the green onions. What prevents me from giving this place a perfect rating is flagging a server to get me water, or to frankly flag any staffer for something, such as ordering dessert or getting the bill. It took effort and hand-waving to get their attention. It took two tries to get a glass of water with ice. I was happy when I got some after I had finished my Diet Coke. It was equally as cold and yummy. I ordered dessert. The menu is stuck on each table. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There were two flavours and I went with matcha. It was rich, creamy, and full of strong matcha flavour. The scoop of ice cream was generous. I loved the small spoon, which allowed this dessert to last a lot longer. I asked for the bill. I got a payment machine. I used my credit card to pay and tip. All was great. I used the washroom before I headed over to explore the downtown area. The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so accessibility is an issue. There are two single-stall washrooms. The one that I used was clean. Because it's an older building, the ceiling is low. I am just shy of six feet in height. I made it without hitting my head on the ceiling. If you are six feet and taller, you'll need to duck to make sure you don't bang your head. Staff say goodbye to you when you leave. It was a nice touch, although I don't know what they are saying to me in Japanese. They could be swearing at me and I wouldn't know. I had a wonderful experience here. If you don't mind sitting close to folks and waving your arms like a maniac to get your server's attention, come here. This ramen joint appeared as a Michelin place in 2017. I can see why. The food quality is excellent. (200)
