musoshin ramen
Elaine S.

I was intrigued by the fact that they use a blend of pork, chicken, and vegetable broths rather than sticking with a heavier tonkotsu base. The result is actually very interesting, the broth has a rich, savory umami taste, but it's not overly fatty or heavy. It feels more balanced, so you can really enjoy the noodles and toppings without feeling weighed down afterward. Portions were on the smaller side compared to some other ramen spots in Toronto, but the flavors made up for it. The chashu was tender and flavorful, though I've heard from other people that it can sometimes be hit or miss. We also tried the strawberry mochi for dessert, which was fantastic soft, fresh, and not too sweet. The restaurant is quite small and fills up quickly. We went on a Sunday night and were lucky enough to grab the last empty table without a wait. From what I've heard, lineups are pretty common, so timing is everything. Inside, the space feels cozy and modern, and the staff were very friendly and attentive.

I went with a group of 4 on a weekend and was seated on the patio. Ordered the special Musoshin as it had a variety of different meats to try. The portion was quite generous and the 3 different types of meat (steak, pork belly, karage) were done very well. The steak was flavorful and tender, the pork belly was nicely seasoned and the chicken karage was super crispy. The broth itself was wonderful, which made the entire meal extremely satisfying to eat. The service was also quick and friendly, the inside had nice decor and was clean. Overall, would definitely recommend the special Musoshin and would come back to try other things on the menu! 100% deserving of the Michelin review!

I have been eyeing this ramen place as they are Michelin recommended. Was finally glad to be able to try this place. We went at 5pm on Saturday and were seated right away in the patio area. The weather was great and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The service was very quick and friendly. I must say the meat was really tasty! The noodles were a little too chewy for my liking. The eggs were perfect (this was an extra $2). The broth tasted clean and wasn't too salty unlike most ramen places. I didn't feel heavy or thirsty after drinking the soup which was a really huge plus although it took me off guard a little since I was expecting a huge punch of flavour/saltiness. Overall I'm so glad that I was finally able to give this place a try, I would recommend it.

100% deserving of that Michelin review! Authentic and delicious. The place was packed on a random Wednesday for lunch. Understandable that there's a 90 minute seating limit. We had the Musoshin Ramen and the Musoshin Ramen Rec. Broth, noodles, it was all perfect. Limited seating and cool patio which gives off a NYC St. Marks Place vibe. Definitely coming back!

Expectations were very high and every wish and hope were.met and exceeded! Staff was very friendly and informative, and the menu in resto was larger than online! The boniyo flakes on the takoyaki was very generous and provided a great smoky umami.bomb againat the fluffy octopus balls. Had the special Mushoshin combo ramen and it was a very generous portion. The beef was incredibly tender, and flavourful, the char aroma was mesmerizing. The pork belly was thinly sliced and delicious but the karaage at our table stole the show! They were baking and cooling fresh bread when we arrived...smelt yummy. If you're lucky enough yo have the chance to try the noodles here, Im sure you'll agree, its a must try!

I was in the area and was looking for a bite to eat then came across this ramen spot online. It came to my surprise that I found out this spot was featured on the Toronto Michelin guide. Despite being a rainy day, there was still a reasonable amount of people inside. I went solo, so I sat by the window seats. Musoshin Ramen: I went with their classic ramen as it seems to be the popular option. The portions were a bit small but the quality was amazing. The broth was light but still flavourful without feeling heavy like the usual tonkotsu broth. Overall, I had a great experience solo dining at Musoshin that you could still enjoy your meal solo and not feel a bit awkward as the seating was by the window more suitable for solo eaters.

I was thrilled to find out this small ramen shop was right around the corner from my office, so I organized a team outing to stop by. The first thing I noticed was that the dining room was pretty small and while there was a good number of seats for the dining room, it can get a bit cramped. But I was there for the food, and the food was very tasty! I wish the servings were a little bit bigger, but given the location and price, I think the value is fair. I love a rich broth and the broth in my musoshin ramen really hit the spot. The thing that stood out to me the most was how fast the food came out. There was only 1 cook and the dining room was full. Nevertheless, the food came out reasonably fast and I appreciated their ability to work efficiently in their confined kitchen. Overall 4.5/5, will definitely return if I get the chance.

Solid ramen, especially with the vegan broth option, which can be hard to find in the city. The broth is very flavourful, and the noodles were springy. The wait isn't too long once you place your order. Be prepared to wait for seats in the winter as half of their seating is outdoors (and unavailable).

Dare I say, best ramen in the city! Musoshin is a quaint little ramen shop near Roncesvalles (Roncy) that brings the same warmth as a homecooked meal. FOOD (5/5) We ordered two Ajitama Musoshin Ramen which is their house special Musoshin ramen topped with a seasoned boiled egg and bamboo shoots. The broth is incredibly rich, umami, yet light and well balanced. The noodles have a nice chew and bounce. The chashu sliced pork is, I believe torched as it's plated, so there's a hint of smokiness and caramelization of the brine that works so well with the richness of the broth. The egg is cut in half and has a soft gooey yolk and lightly seasoned albeit could've been more umami. I'd say this ramen reminded me deeply of ramen from Japan and I highly recommend! I even ended up drinking up all the broth til the bowl was empty! AMBIENCE (2.5/5) A very quaint storefront with a few tables and booth seats. The kitchen is in open view to the dining area which felt very authentic to some Japanese cuisine. They also have a front patio with a few seats as an option on nicer days. SERVICE (4/5) Staff were helpful and service was really fast! They quickly cleared our bowls after eating and asked if we wanted dessert, which we responded no and was presented with the bill at the table right away. VALUE (4.5/5) Despite being extremely tasty, the ramen noodle portions seemed a bit less than most other ramen shops. Nevertheless, still walked out feeling content. LOCATION (3/5) Located a in the Roncesvalles area, it's commutable being a few minutes walk from Dundas West station or Bloor GO/UP Express station. There's also some street parking in the area. OVERALL (5/5) I thoroughly enjoyed the ramen here and will be using this as a benchmark for ramen going forward. Highly recommend and will 100% be back for this to-die-for ramen and some of their desserts next time!

Kotteki ramen

The food was greast and service was nice. Was dining outside and a bee flew in the soup and they made a new batch. Unfortunately it was when it just came too. Wait is a little long but roughly 30 minutes. I got the kotteki ramen... i think. It was yummy and like saucy

+.5 for service Pretty solid ramen location. Needed a ramen place that was in between the airport and Union Station (was in the middle of a transfer), and this place is not too far of a walk from the UP Express station at Bloor. Plus it was Michelin recommended so I had to give it a try. While they have their standard ramen options, there was also a list of specials that aren't in the menu. One of them was the sakekasu ramen, which was only shown on their white board. I decided to give that ramen a try as it's something different, and with Michelin places I like to see their creativity. I liked it! There was a milky texture to the broth, thick/twisty ramen was used (which is what I prefer), and portion sizes were very reasonable. Lots of flavour with the ramen and bowl. I added the yogurt cheesecake as it looked very interesting (milk from a Japanese farm? Sure!). It was rich for a Japanese cheesecake, and for $5.75 I'd say it's excellent value to enjoy a Japanese-styled dessert. Service was excellent here. It is a bit pricier than your famous ramen locations downtown, but I do believe it's worth a try for the adventurous one.

I had the chance to dine at Musoshin in Kyoto while vacationing in Japan, so I was excited when I later learned they have a second location here in Toronto. I'm happy to report the ramen here is also delicious!!! It's not a "fancy restaurant"--just a casual cafe with a neighborhood feel serving up reasonably-priced, authentic ramen made with high quality ingredients. Expect a wait if you go on a Friday night, maybe 30-60 minutes which is totally worth it for this Michelin-rated food.

Special Musoshin Ramen and the spicy ramen (far one)

Best ramen place ever! I have been to Musoshin a handful of times now. Undeniably my favorite spot. No other ramen matches up now that I know the best. The special is my favorite, as well as the karagge, and the soy powder ice cream. The roncesvalles location is my favorite, tucked away on a quiet street and filled with a warm, intimate vibe. The service is great too, always friendly and food comes quickly!

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

Reach ten stamps and you get a free bowl of ramen. - The chashu is excellent! My rating is 4.5 stars. I'm rounding down. Last Tuesday, I had my monthly 7 am meeting with a bunch of technical writing peers from around the world. It's quite the meeting that typically lasts for four hours. Luckily, we ended earlier than usual. It meant that my workday ended at around 3:30 pm. It was perfect, as I had a concert to attend several hours later. Normally, I don't do dinner before a concert. I grab a quick bite to each before I head downtown. This time, since I was done work early, I felt that having an early dinner was worthwhile. I drove downtown and parked in a lot that seems to be my usual spot whenever I'm attending a concert at Massey Hall. My original plan was to find an eatery close to the concert venue. I spotted Hokkaido Ramen Santouka steps away. I wanted ramen! I walked in and there was a sign that said to wait. I had no wait time. A woman and the entire staff greeted me. I asked for a table for me and got one. It was great. Seating between tables and diners is close together. You definitely overhear conversations and you can't help it. The man next to me had stretched his foot under my table. I didn't notice that he was in my space until I uncrossed my leg and my foot hit his. I listened to two friends next to me. The man seemed to take charge over what he and his female friend should eat, which was interesting. He gave the impression that he was an expert until the server came over and he had a ton of questions. It's always fun being an observer and listener. I had no choice but to listen to her dating experiences. I got a menu. I knew what I wanted. My server came over and was ready to take my order. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Miso chachu ramen, with bamboo shoot held - Jammy egg and corn as extra toppings The menu doesn't tell you what ingredients you get in each type of ramen. However, it does come with a photo. I asked how large a large bowl of ramen was. My server was great pointing up to a display of three bowls. I went large. The photo indicated that my miso ramen had bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of them, so I asked that they be omitted. I also added a jammy egg and corn. I got a cold can of Diet Coke. A frosted glass with ice accompanied it. I was happy. I love an icy cold drink. This one was excellent. I loved that it was extra cold. My bowl of ramen had arrived. I was excited to dive in. My miso chachu ramen was delicious. The miso flavour was on point. I drank most of the broth, which speaks volumes on how yummy it was. The chachu was tender and had the best balance of pork and fattiness. The number of slices was generous. The ramen was chewy and perfectly done. I loved the corn and jammy egg. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed my ramen without these two key toppings. They worked nicely with the green onions. What prevents me from giving this place a perfect rating is flagging a server to get me water, or to frankly flag any staffer for something, such as ordering dessert or getting the bill. It took effort and hand-waving to get their attention. It took two tries to get a glass of water with ice. I was happy when I got some after I had finished my Diet Coke. It was equally as cold and yummy. I ordered dessert. The menu is stuck on each table. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There were two flavours and I went with matcha. It was rich, creamy, and full of strong matcha flavour. The scoop of ice cream was generous. I loved the small spoon, which allowed this dessert to last a lot longer. I asked for the bill. I got a payment machine. I used my credit card to pay and tip. All was great. I used the washroom before I headed over to explore the downtown area. The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so accessibility is an issue. There are two single-stall washrooms. The one that I used was clean. Because it's an older building, the ceiling is low. I am just shy of six feet in height. I made it without hitting my head on the ceiling. If you are six feet and taller, you'll need to duck to make sure you don't bang your head. Staff say goodbye to you when you leave. It was a nice touch, although I don't know what they are saying to me in Japanese. They could be swearing at me and I wouldn't know. I had a wonderful experience here. If you don't mind sitting close to folks and waving your arms like a maniac to get your server's attention, come here. This ramen joint appeared as a Michelin place in 2017. I can see why. The food quality is excellent. (200)
