Quick seating and a not too cramped atmosphere for it being a narrow dining area. If you like a sweet wine, please try the plum wine. It was light and very enjoyable. The homemade ginger-ale was pretty good as well. It was refreshing to pair it with the spicy ramen that we had. We also mixed it in with the plum wine and it tasted great. My chicken ramen looked plain but the broth was rich. The chicken was tender and easy to break apart. I ripped some pieces of karaage in it and it was delightful. You know the ramen was good when you slump back in your seat and taken a deep breath. The service was very friendly and our waiter was very attentive. My water was always filled and he provided good recommendations.

Absolutely loved the tsukemen (dipping) ramen. The portion size was filling and the soup was flavorful and umami. Reminds me of authentic ramen in Japan. The chicken karage batter was cripsy and chicken was well seasoned. I enjoyed the meal very much and will come again for some dipping ramen to satisfy my ramen cravings. NOTE: The concord location has a curry flavour tsukemen ramen which I'm interested to try. If you like curry, definitely hit up this location to try it out.

I don't usually go downtown because of construction and traffic. However, it was a surprise birthday celebration for my brother. His favorite restaurant is Ramen Isshin and I'm not surprised. The menu is QR code off the drinks menu. Kind of weird but I guess they are saving the trees from printing menus. The menu is pretty simple. The appetizers are typical for Japanese ramen spots - chicken karaage, deep fried pork gyoza, takoyaki, deep fried tofu, plant based nugget. The ramens are separated by broth - Isshin originals, Red miso, vegetarian, Shio "salt", Shoyu. There are also rice bowls chicken karaage and Cha Shu pork belly. I tried the Red Dragon and it definitely lived up to its name. This broth is a fire breather. The spice level is around 8 out of 10. Apparently there are 15 different spices hence the heat and depth of flavors. My wife got the red miso and she said the broth was very tasty and borderline salty. The thick twisty ramen noodles have nice chewiness and the seared pork cha shu was delicious. Please note the red miso ramen do not come with soft boiled marinated egg except for Red dragon. The appetizers we ordered were chicken karaage, takoyaki and edamame. The chicken karaage were shaped like chicken balls. They were juicy inside and dipping sauce was good. The takoyaki was pretty good and you can taste the octopus inside. Edamame were seasoned with sea salt and were addictive. Overall the food was pretty good and I would definitely come back to try the shoyu or shio ramen.

Got the Spicy Red Miso and it was really flavourful, good balance of ingredients and chewy noodles. It was a nice cozy ramen shop and there were different types of ramen to choose from! I would definitely come back again to try the others. Also reasonably priced for the quantity you get. The service was quick and the staff were friendly and attentive as well.

It's been a while since I was able to visit Ramen Isshin (always one of my favourites).. Was finally able to go last week and enjoy a bowl of spicy red miso ramen and enjoyed every morsel. This place remains one of my top 3 ramen joints in the city. On the downside, it's probably among the most expensive ramen spots ($20+) so I'm glad there are other great lower priced options as well (such as Santouka)

I don't need to say much on this one; It's Ramen, it's delicious, it's priced well. Go get you some. You're welcome.

The love the texture of the ramen noodles - thin and chewy! For the black sesame tantan, the flavour of the broth matched the description. They also gave a mortar and pestle with black sesame and we were able to grind it up ourselves which was unique. My favourite was the hojicha shave ice cream. The shave ice cream part is non-flavoured (I think) and was super creamy and airy it was such a unique texture in the best way. They put hojicha syrup over top only so once I got to the bottom it was just plain melted ice cream. There are a few tables near the front window - which is where we sat, but there seemed to be more seating near the back. The servers are around but you may need to flag them down if you are sitting near the front at a not so busy time.

Ramen Isshin has always been my number 1 ramen spot in downtown Toronto. I'm glad they are doing well and opened multiple locations! College location used to be a long wait but now that they opened a second location downtown, it doesn't take too long for a table. We came on a Friday evening at 7pm and wait was around 20-25 minutes. However, Queen location doesn't have online waitlist to add yourself on like their original college location. Service is quick and friendly and they are always so welcoming to customers entering! Some may say it is expensive for a bowl nowadays versus in the past when a bowl used to be $10.80 each. I think it is $18 (?) before tax and tip now for my usual bowl of Kotteri Rich Shoyu. I personally think it is a nice treat to pay that much for ramen and it is worth it! Considering the hours they put in to make the delicious broth. I would rather pay for it at a restaurant than try making it at home myself. The Kotteri Rich Shoyu is my go to because it is a nice and simple, yet rich broth with nicely sliced Chasu pieces, egg, bamboo shoots, seaweed nori and green onions. The soup is so delicious, I always try to finish the bowl empty! Highly recommend! I have yet to find another ramen spot better than ramen Isshin in the GTA.

Came in here on a Friday night around 8:30 with 3 others and were seated within a few minutes. I got the red miso ramen and everyone else got the garlic. We all LOVED our ramen. My red miso was the perfect level of spice where you can still taste the tonkotsu broth layer. It was creamy, smooth, and didn't have undissolved spices like you get sometimes in other bowls. The noodles were plentiful and a good chewy texture. The pork melted in your mouth with the slightest bit of smokiness. I tried the garlic broth and it had such an umami, slightly nutty flavor to it. Definitely would get a whole bowl of it! My only qualm was everyone talked about how good the egg was and I didn't realize the red miso DOESN'T come with an egg so make sure you order it as an add on!

Hands down, second of the best ramen I ever had. Layers and layers of flavor, super deep and rich broth as any high quality ramen should. Quick service, staff is friendly! Small place that will surprise you.

Family Day, 02/17/2025 around 5pm, The atmosphere was chill and quiet since it wasn't busy at all as only the tables at the back were full and nobody but me was up at the front. Service was very nice and quick. I ordered Takoyaki as an appetizer and had the Garlic Shoyu Ramen as my meal. Food came out pretty fast, presentation was good, tastes great! It is now one of my favourite ramen spots in the city. I'm not sure if I can choose between isshin or Ikkousha but I've only had them both once. Overall good experience, would definitely go back again (:

Ramen cravings resolved at Ramen Isshin What we ordered: Roasted Garlic Shoyu Spicy Red Miso The Roasted Garlic Shoyu might just be my fave garlic-based ramen in the city, it's flavourful & I wasn't left super thirsty! Which is a plus for me, noodles were my fav thin ones & the sliced pork was thick in the best way! We went in bout 40 minutes before they closed so service was meh, seems like they were eager to rush us out. However, will visit another time and see if it's a similar vibe

Looking for the best ramen in Toronto is tough and Ramen Isshin has had quite the reputation in Toronto. I've always heard good things about this place and finally had a chance to try it. First of all, the service was attentive and welcoming as you enter the restaurant. Similar to many Japanese restaurants, the staff greet you as stroll your way down to your table. The ambiance is quite casual as you see different walks of life come in and out of the establishment. The menu was quite large however we ended up trying the classics, the Red Dragon, Spicy Red Miso and of course the Chicken Kaarage. The flavour of both broths were rich and were soaked up nicely by the noodles. We did find there was a little too much bean sprouts for our liking, like there were more sprouts than there were noodles. The pork belly was ridiculously thin and left us wanting more. The Kaarage was fresh and was paired nice with the kewpie mayo however it was nothing memorable. The bowls of ramen were over $20 per bowl which felt a little overpriced considering the amount of noodles and protein was given. All in all, it's unfortunate that Ramen Isshin didn't hold up to its reputation. Considering the price of each bowl, you would think that the main ingredients would be more plentiful. On to the next! 2.8/5

The seafood and tonkotsu broth was rich, savory, and full of flavor. It was a little too salty to drink on its own, but perfect for dipping the noodles. The only thing to note is that the cold noodles stayed quite firm even after sitting in the broth for a while, so if you prefer a softer texture, I would recommend asking for hot noodles instead. The soft-boiled egg was also really good, slightly sweet, chilled, and very flavorful. We also tried the Spicy Red Miso ramen, which was not actually very spicy and leaned a little sweet. The broth was pleasant, though my teammate felt there were so many onions and green onions that they covered some of the miso flavor. The chashu, however, was excellent, with a really nice balance of lean meat and fat without feeling greasy. The takoyaki was classic and well done, crisp on the outside, soft in the middle, with generous pieces of octopus inside. The karaage was also very solid, crispy outside and juicy inside, with a seasoning that had a clear ginger and cooking wine aroma. Overall, a very enjoyable meal, especially if you like rich broths and comforting Japanese side dishes.

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

Reach ten stamps and you get a free bowl of ramen. - The chashu is excellent! My rating is 4.5 stars. I'm rounding down. Last Tuesday, I had my monthly 7 am meeting with a bunch of technical writing peers from around the world. It's quite the meeting that typically lasts for four hours. Luckily, we ended earlier than usual. It meant that my workday ended at around 3:30 pm. It was perfect, as I had a concert to attend several hours later. Normally, I don't do dinner before a concert. I grab a quick bite to each before I head downtown. This time, since I was done work early, I felt that having an early dinner was worthwhile. I drove downtown and parked in a lot that seems to be my usual spot whenever I'm attending a concert at Massey Hall. My original plan was to find an eatery close to the concert venue. I spotted Hokkaido Ramen Santouka steps away. I wanted ramen! I walked in and there was a sign that said to wait. I had no wait time. A woman and the entire staff greeted me. I asked for a table for me and got one. It was great. Seating between tables and diners is close together. You definitely overhear conversations and you can't help it. The man next to me had stretched his foot under my table. I didn't notice that he was in my space until I uncrossed my leg and my foot hit his. I listened to two friends next to me. The man seemed to take charge over what he and his female friend should eat, which was interesting. He gave the impression that he was an expert until the server came over and he had a ton of questions. It's always fun being an observer and listener. I had no choice but to listen to her dating experiences. I got a menu. I knew what I wanted. My server came over and was ready to take my order. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Miso chachu ramen, with bamboo shoot held - Jammy egg and corn as extra toppings The menu doesn't tell you what ingredients you get in each type of ramen. However, it does come with a photo. I asked how large a large bowl of ramen was. My server was great pointing up to a display of three bowls. I went large. The photo indicated that my miso ramen had bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of them, so I asked that they be omitted. I also added a jammy egg and corn. I got a cold can of Diet Coke. A frosted glass with ice accompanied it. I was happy. I love an icy cold drink. This one was excellent. I loved that it was extra cold. My bowl of ramen had arrived. I was excited to dive in. My miso chachu ramen was delicious. The miso flavour was on point. I drank most of the broth, which speaks volumes on how yummy it was. The chachu was tender and had the best balance of pork and fattiness. The number of slices was generous. The ramen was chewy and perfectly done. I loved the corn and jammy egg. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed my ramen without these two key toppings. They worked nicely with the green onions. What prevents me from giving this place a perfect rating is flagging a server to get me water, or to frankly flag any staffer for something, such as ordering dessert or getting the bill. It took effort and hand-waving to get their attention. It took two tries to get a glass of water with ice. I was happy when I got some after I had finished my Diet Coke. It was equally as cold and yummy. I ordered dessert. The menu is stuck on each table. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There were two flavours and I went with matcha. It was rich, creamy, and full of strong matcha flavour. The scoop of ice cream was generous. I loved the small spoon, which allowed this dessert to last a lot longer. I asked for the bill. I got a payment machine. I used my credit card to pay and tip. All was great. I used the washroom before I headed over to explore the downtown area. The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so accessibility is an issue. There are two single-stall washrooms. The one that I used was clean. Because it's an older building, the ceiling is low. I am just shy of six feet in height. I made it without hitting my head on the ceiling. If you are six feet and taller, you'll need to duck to make sure you don't bang your head. Staff say goodbye to you when you leave. It was a nice touch, although I don't know what they are saying to me in Japanese. They could be swearing at me and I wouldn't know. I had a wonderful experience here. If you don't mind sitting close to folks and waving your arms like a maniac to get your server's attention, come here. This ramen joint appeared as a Michelin place in 2017. I can see why. The food quality is excellent. (200)
