Tonkotsu ramen with thin noodles and extra noodles on the side
    Karl L.

After a long walk, I was looking for a place to sit down and enjoy a meal. Sansotei provided exactly that--a modern ambiance where I could relax and enjoy a delicious bowl of ramen. From the outside, the restaurant uses black to distinguish itself. The familiar signage of the ramen franchise I knew well assured me that I would have a good time. After navigating around the wooden fence, I entered the restaurant. Inside, it looked clean and modern. The decor was primarily black, but the wooden wall on one side, a black Japanese fabric curtain (noren) on the other, and thick ropes hanging from the ceiling like a chandelier made the interior quite interesting. As soon as I was seated, I got the menu. It had clear pictures of the available ramen, along with their names, descriptions, and prices, all easily readable on a single page. However, the paper menu was worn down on the edges, which slightly detracted from the experience. Here's what I tried: Tonkotsu: I ordered the classic bowl with thin noodles and a side of extra noodles, and I was very happy with my choice. The ramen came piping hot in a bowl. Even the basic bowl included a full soft-boiled egg split into two, along with other delicious toppings like green onions and thin slices of pork belly chashu. The hot, beige, fatty soup made of pork marrow had fat floating on the top, and there was enough of it to accommodate the extra noodles. The noodles were perfectly cooked to be soft yet still chewy. The broth was very well seasoned and matched perfectly with the noodles. I kept slurping until there was no more left in the bowl. I loved it to the last drop. As for the service, the gentleman who took my order was attentive at the beginning but allowed me to eat in peace afterward. The utensils and table were clean, as was the washroom. Overall, I had a great time at Sansotei Ramen. The restaurant offers good value, and I would not mind coming back when I am in the area and in need of a hot bowl of ramen.

Honestly this was just what I needed at the time. Ramen here is heartwarming and on a cold winter day it just made me feel so cozy. The portion size is generous and I think this is much more affordable than other ramen spots. I got the Spicy tantan (chase, ground pork, egg, bamboo shoot and chilly) It was just the right amount of spice and not overly spicy which I enjoyed. Overall a great experience and I'll be back for sure :)

3.5 stars I was checking out the Canoe Landing Park in Downtown Toronto during the weekend, and have decided to stop by this Sansotei location for a quick dinner. There are multiple locations in Toronto and I've always been very pleased with the food, service and beautiful decor at Sansotei in the GTA locations! I usually order Tonkotsu Black because I love the garlic oil but decided to go for something more basic this time. My friend and I ordered the following: * Tonkotsu Ramen with chashu, black fungus, egg and green onions. You can choose to have thick or thin noodles; I chose thick (bc I like 'em thick lmao). I did find the chashu a little too dry/overcooked for my liking tho. * Spicy Tantan with chashu, ground pork, egg, bamboo shoot and chili. This one is perfect for spicy lovers! My friend paired it with thin noodles, and enjoyed every last bit of it ;) * The side of Gyūdon aka beef rice bowl was not quite up to par. I always order this at the GTA locations and they never disappoint. This beef in this version was very dry, and it lacks the caramelized onions and sauce.

Wanted to try something close to my Airbnb, and this was really close. I got the tonkotsu black and added extra pork belly. When I tell y'all this is some of the best ramen I've ever had! The broth was so flavorful. The runny egg and tender pork belly made it even better. If you want a flavorful ramen, I'd recommend this one. I also got the gyoza also equally delicious. Service was good. She answered all my questions and helped my friends and I pick what we wanted based on things we liked. I really liked the decor inside too. It was a very pretty restaurant.

Came here during the afternoon lunch hours on a weekday. Had enough seating and a few tables full. I've had the Markham location Sansotei and remember it being good. So I decided why not try this location? Ordered: Spicy Tan Tan. This is a spicy soup base, not too spicy, with a sesame hint. If you love spicy ramen, choose this! Very hearty. I love their soup base as it's very fresh. Their egg was a little bland as what I'm used to. Should be more seasoned. Their noodles are good. Not too chewy or too soft. Just about right. Tastes fresh, and good meat:noodle ratio. Service: very careful with orders ensured they were all correct before leaving the table. Attentive. Attention to detail and friendly! Would definitely come back. If you're looking for a ramen place in the area, try this one!!!!

TIME: Wednesday @6:45pm It was my first night in Freezing Toronto so of course I would seek out a popular ramen spot. My part of 2 was greeted and seated immediately upon arriving. This place is so nice! I dig the the ceiling rope decoration. We weren't so hungry so we decided to share the following: SEAWEED SALAD - $5 CAD This came out immediately so it was like a refreshing appetizer. We pretty much ordered this so we don't look too weird sharing just a bowl of ramen. TONKOSTU BLACK - $11.75 CAD Pork Belly, Black Fungus, Egg, Green Onions, Garlic Oil. I chose the thicker noodle option from our servers recommendation and it was great! That garlic really brings out the flavor to the entire meal and I'm so happy I paid the extra $0.25 for it! The egg was soft boiled as I like and the pork belly was thinly sliced and tender. This overall was rich and tasty. I wanted some house ask but the only kind they had was some brand names bottle of PEACH SAKE for $29 CAD...really?! I'll pass. I enjoyed my time here. The bowl of ramen was good to share because the bowl was completely finished and no food was wasted! Was it as amazing as everyone hyped it up to be? Not really but it was a fine good bowl of rich noodle soup for the freezing weather!

A quaint little spot on Fort York Blvd, as I live in Liberty Village, by location alone this is one of the easiest most convenient spots to go to for Ramen. But convenience via location isnt the only reason to eat here, having been here countless times I cannot remember a single time ever I had to send a dish back, or had my noodles anything less then cooked perfectly with consistent heat for the bowls based on desired spice level, consistency is key and this place serves consistently good Ramen!

I got a spicy tantan ramen and I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality. The thin noodle and eggs were perfectly cooked, the vegetables were tasty and The broth creamy and just spicy enough. Staff and friendly and service quick. Nice background music a modern design. It's a small place but totally worth the visit.

We found this place among the many searching of Ramen places. It doesn't seem like much for parking but it was easily walkable from the downtown area. We thought it was excellent, staff was patient and answered our questions and seems like a local choice for those who enjoy Ramen. We were satisfied and pleased with our choice and enjoyed the entire experience. I would recommend if you're in the area and need well priced Ramen that is worth the taste

Got the Tonkotsu ramen take away. Stayed at Airbnb upstairs. Soup is delicious and creamy Ramen is chewy, not mushy Portion size is small. (I don't know if it is because we got it to go?)

So when in Toronto I'm always looking for the best things to eat. I really wanted to get ramen this time coming to the 6. So I was doing a little research. Sansotei was one of the first recommended spots that I heard of. I was kind of skeptical because they have multiple locations. I was kind of looking for one of those places that have one spot but make REALLY REALLY good food that you can't get anywhere else. But I decided to try it anyways since i heard good things about it. So first, I got an order of their spicy slow cooked wings. When looking at them when they came out, it looked almost as if they were boiled. They didn't look that appetizing to be honest. However when I tasted them they were straight up delicious. The meat had great flavor. Whatever marinade or sauce they used in the cooking process was spot on. And the meat was legit fall off the bone. I could eat those everyday. Now to the star of the show. THE RAMEN. I got the Tonkotsu Black w/ thick noodles, extra egg and pork. First thing I always do is taste the broth. This lets me know what i'm in for, how good it will be, and the quality of the ramen. I ended up really enjoying the broth. It wasn't rich per say, but the flavors were plentiful. Also I feel like at most places that serve Tonkotsu Black, the garlic oil isn't that distinguishable between itself and the broth, They sort of taste like one, if that makes sense. However I could def tell when I got some garlic oil in my mouth. It had more of a defined taste which I really enjoyed. The eggs were really good and cooked perfect. The pork had nice flavor as well. The noodles had a nice bite to them. Not too firm or chewy, just perfect. Overall this ramen had a nice depth to it. Lovely layers of flavors in the bowl. I would definitely come back to this place when I do come back to Toronto. I really enjoyed my meal and it didn't cost much at all. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good bowl of ramen in the 6!

This is located on Fort York in between a number of Concord condos. I liked most of the Sansotei in various locations, so I thought to give this place a try. The decor was cool with a hispter feel with an interesting ceiling decorations with a whole bunch of really thick ropes. One really weird thing about this place, the front door was extremely hard to open, and it was like a work out just trying to open the door. There were three girls who were more concern about chatting that serving us. Well, our group was the only table there around the afternoon time. I didn't know that they even charge for hot tea, because most of the places that I have been to have complimentary tea. The noodle I ordered was Shoyu, but the hot spring egg was slightly under cooked. I expected it to be cooked just touch more. The soup was okay but a little too salty for my taste. It was okay, but not sensational. So, if you want quality ramen, you might want to visit a different Sansotei.

(Upper) miso black ramen and (lower) tonkatsu Black ramen
    Shivana D.

Sansotei achieves a great depth of flavor in each ramen bowl! The miso black and tonkatsu black flavors were definitely potent in each bite. I think the tonkatsu broth was a little bit on the salty side when combined with the black garlic flavor. But aside from that, each ingredient was prepared well. The pork was tender and juicy, and the egg was cooked perfectly- not too runny or mushy at all. The service was good, nothing to complain about. And the atmosphere was clean and tidy, even as they were about to close.

The seafood and tonkotsu broth was rich, savory, and full of flavor. It was a little too salty to drink on its own, but perfect for dipping the noodles. The only thing to note is that the cold noodles stayed quite firm even after sitting in the broth for a while, so if you prefer a softer texture, I would recommend asking for hot noodles instead. The soft-boiled egg was also really good, slightly sweet, chilled, and very flavorful. We also tried the Spicy Red Miso ramen, which was not actually very spicy and leaned a little sweet. The broth was pleasant, though my teammate felt there were so many onions and green onions that they covered some of the miso flavor. The chashu, however, was excellent, with a really nice balance of lean meat and fat without feeling greasy. The takoyaki was classic and well done, crisp on the outside, soft in the middle, with generous pieces of octopus inside. The karaage was also very solid, crispy outside and juicy inside, with a seasoning that had a clear ginger and cooking wine aroma. Overall, a very enjoyable meal, especially if you like rich broths and comforting Japanese side dishes.

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. Last Tuesday, I had my monthly 7 am meeting with a bunch of technical writing peers from around the world. It's quite the meeting that typically lasts for four hours. Luckily, we ended earlier than usual. It meant that my workday ended at around 3:30 pm. It was perfect, as I had a concert to attend several hours later. Normally, I don't do dinner before a concert. I grab a quick bite to each before I head downtown. This time, since I was done work early, I felt that having an early dinner was worthwhile. I drove downtown and parked in a lot that seems to be my usual spot whenever I'm attending a concert at Massey Hall. My original plan was to find an eatery close to the concert venue. I spotted Hokkaido Ramen Santouka steps away. I wanted ramen! I walked in and there was a sign that said to wait. I had no wait time. A woman and the entire staff greeted me. I asked for a table for me and got one. It was great. Seating between tables and diners is close together. You definitely overhear conversations and you can't help it. The man next to me had stretched his foot under my table. I didn't notice that he was in my space until I uncrossed my leg and my foot hit his. I listened to two friends next to me. The man seemed to take charge over what he and his female friend should eat, which was interesting. He gave the impression that he was an expert until the server came over and he had a ton of questions. It's always fun being an observer and listener. I had no choice but to listen to her dating experiences. I got a menu. I knew what I wanted. My server came over and was ready to take my order. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Miso chachu ramen, with bamboo shoot held - Jammy egg and corn as extra toppings The menu doesn't tell you what ingredients you get in each type of ramen. However, it does come with a photo. I asked how large a large bowl of ramen was. My server was great pointing up to a display of three bowls. I went large. The photo indicated that my miso ramen had bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of them, so I asked that they be omitted. I also added a jammy egg and corn. I got a cold can of Diet Coke. A frosted glass with ice accompanied it. I was happy. I love an icy cold drink. This one was excellent. I loved that it was extra cold. My bowl of ramen had arrived. I was excited to dive in. My miso chachu ramen was delicious. The miso flavour was on point. I drank most of the broth, which speaks volumes on how yummy it was. The chachu was tender and had the best balance of pork and fattiness. The number of slices was generous. The ramen was chewy and perfectly done. I loved the corn and jammy egg. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed my ramen without these two key toppings. They worked nicely with the green onions. What prevents me from giving this place a perfect rating is flagging a server to get me water, or to frankly flag any staffer for something, such as ordering dessert or getting the bill. It took effort and hand-waving to get their attention. It took two tries to get a glass of water with ice. I was happy when I got some after I had finished my Diet Coke. It was equally as cold and yummy. I ordered dessert. The menu is stuck on each table. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There were two flavours and I went with matcha. It was rich, creamy, and full of strong matcha flavour. The scoop of ice cream was generous. I loved the small spoon, which allowed this dessert to last a lot longer. I asked for the bill. I got a payment machine. I used my credit card to pay and tip. All was great. I used the washroom before I headed over to explore the downtown area. The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so accessibility is an issue. There are two single-stall washrooms. The one that I used was clean. Because it's an older building, the ceiling is low. I am just shy of six feet in height. I made it without hitting my head on the ceiling. If you are six feet and taller, you'll need to duck to make sure you don't bang your head. Staff say goodbye to you when you leave. It was a nice touch, although I don't know what they are saying to me in Japanese. They could be swearing at me and I wouldn't know. I had a wonderful experience here. If you don't mind sitting close to folks and waving your arms like a maniac to get your server's attention, come here. This ramen joint appeared as a Michelin place in 2017. I can see why. The food quality is excellent. (200)

If a restaurant's washrooms aren't clean, it gives you a window into how dirty the kitchen and back of house are. The washrooms are in a serious need of a cleaning. There is black filth on the white doors, everything has a bit of a grime covering multiple surfaces. Overall, the food is delicious, I would return but maybe for take-out next time. Please clean your restaurant.

The food was delicious; I especially enjoyed the creamy mushroom ramen broth and veggie gyoza. The gyoza was part of a deal with one app and a pint of Sapporo for 14.99 ^^ The atmosphere inside was super Christmasy! The staff were all friendly and attentive :) I would come back again!
