Pad Gra Prow w/ Ground Beef

We were referred to try this spot, and this spot did not disappoint! This place is poppin' so I recommend to make sure you put in a reservation! Ambiance is soooo many things and it really fit the vibe. Despite this location being very busy, our waiter served as very attentively and we got our food a reasonable time. I got the Pad Gra Prow w/ ground beef and it was very delicious! I would highly recommend this spot!

Pai was highly recommended by a friend and it has the cutest date night vibes. My hubby said that he could see us coming there more often for date nights if we were in the area. Lanterns were hung up all over the restaurant and it was quite spacious considering how tiny it looked on the outside. We ordered the Pad Thai, the minced pork rice dish and two guava juices. Everything was very tasty. We ordered our dishes mild, just because we can't handle spice too well. The service was exceptional too! We waited maybe 25 minutes on a Sunday night to be seated. Our waiter was extremely friendly, asking us about our day, told us about some recs and answered all of our questions. We will definitely have to visit again when we're back in Toronto!

I've been here a few times. The Thai Fried Rice with Beef is so tasty and soft. You could practically inhale it, it's so easy to eat. My friend ordered Chef Nuit's Pad Thai with Beef, medium spicy. It was so delicious with a bit of a kick but not too spicy. The Squash Fritters are also very good. Addictive. The Garlic Shrimp was crispy and juicy. Loved them. The Mango Slaw is refreshing. The atmosphere is dark with lanterns and cool art. The service is friendly and speedy. Highly recommend.

PAI had been on both my coworker's and my "Want to Go" lists, so we knew we had to try it while we were in town for a work trip. We couldn't find a same-day reservation that worked for us, so we decided to try our luck with a walk-in. It was snowing quite a bit, so we assumed it wouldn't be too busy. Wrong. PAI is clearly a popular option for diners no matter the weather. Luckily, since there were only two of us, we were seated at the bar after only a short wait, and tbh we preferred it there. The corner bar area felt a bit quieter than the packed tables in the centre, and it gave us a chance to chat with the bartender/server and get some recommendations. We shared the mango slaw, pad thai with chicken, and a beef curry - and everything was delicious, flavourful, and generously portioned (not to mention aesthetic too), so we had lots of leftovers to take away. (We would've loved to try dessert too, but we were stuffed!) Between the, fast and friendly service (despite how busy it was), and the convenient downtown location, PAI lived up to the hype and I'd happily return.

(Dined 09/08/2025 MO @ 4:00pm): My oh my... Pai's kitchen was cooking up some awesome northern Thai food! I was in town for the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and as I explored the cuisine landscape, unanimously, Pai Northern Thai Kitchen came highly recommended. I loved Thai food, but my favorite region was undoubtedly the northern region of Chang Main and Chang Rai with its spicy flavors. Founded by couple Jeff and Nuit, this Michelin-starred restaurant was the first known one I've dined at. Would this northern Thai eatery originally from Pai, Thailand be my kitchen of choice!? I settled in, received a glass of water, perused the menu, and eventually placed my order. My beer arrived quickly while the rest of my meal systematically arrived so I wasn't cluttered with too many dishes. I was occasionally checked on, but I was in a very happy place. As the place continued to get crowded, I never felt pressured to finish up. The entire staff was efficient, friendly, and helpful - amazing! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): I was constantly in the area all day throughout the entire 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, so I simply walked. Otherwise, there were spots along the many main and surrounding streets, some nearby structures, numerous public transportation options, and rideshares - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A deep, large cavernous brick and wood bunker-like restaurant that slinked along into multiple bars and rooms with an odd assortment of colorful flags, framed pictures, hung lanterns, and various memorabilia, with a plethora of both short and long wooden tables. OVERALL Pai Northern Thai Kitchen was nothing short of spectacular and I wished I made an effort to eat there again before I left Toronto. Top to bottom from the incredible food, the affordable prices, and on-point service, I honestly couldn't ask for more! For my first known Michelin-starred eating experience, this was an unforgettable moment. Plus, I always preferred to support small mom & pop businesses. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $82.00CAD BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STAR

Burst of flavors, colors, and Asian street-food vibe but with a sophisticated twist. Pad Gra Prow, better known as the humble 'basil chicken rice' is the best here. Can't emphasize it enough. I would wait 30 mins again for a plate of Pad Gra Prow with the perfectly fried egg with a runny yolk. It is one of the best you can get in GTA. Go without any prior notions of authentic Tom Yum Soup and Khao Soi and you will be more than happy. A touch too much tamarind, a bit too much sweet? All is well when the weather is freezing cold, and you have waited 30 mins to be seated.

    Olivia M.

Came in for a late lunch and the wait was still roughly 45 minutes. We waited at the bar and had drinks! The wait was definitely worth it! We loved the beef satay and then pad thai. It's definitely feeling like elevated Thai food. Would make a reservation when possible

This Thai spot was a good start to the trip. It was good, but was it the best Thai I ever had? No. I guess I had really high expectations. We had a variety of dishes, the pad Thai, the fried rice, the Khao Soi, the braised beef soup. The only really unique dish was the braised beef soup. I never had this before and it was good. The service was a bit spotty I think it was because we came at a weird time, late lunch/early dinner.

I remember going back in the day when it was the new talk in town, but not wowed out of this world - thought the food was normal good but not phenomenal - this was about 10-15 years ago or something. But over time I just kept consistently hearing this place on top of everyone's lists, having high ravings, etc; that I was curious to go back again and really give it a go and try even more stuff. I had some friends come from out of town and we decided to hit this place up; it was a Friday evening I believe - and the lineup was long, waited about 30 min in line, only to have to still put our name on the waiting list; so we walked around until we got called, about 20 min late. I was surprised with how huge it was inside, in the back - like a huge underground tavern. Decor is fun and festive. Still I was afraid of being disappointed from overhype and also from the general principle that usually when establishments blow up and expand more, the food quality worsens as they cater to huger crowds. Let me tell you that they did NOT disappoint! Despite it feeling a bit like a huge tavern/cafeteria down there - every single dish that we ordered was stupendous!! Attention to detail, savoury ingredients, presentable; not overly sweet like other typical Thai places. Really delicious and I definitely want to come back! And because the food is delicious, I didn't see the huge cafeteria/tavern atmosphere negatively anymore (huge places tend to give me a bad impression due to tendency to have not as high quality food), but rather, fun.

Since I have moved to Toronto 5 years ago, PAI has been the most referenced restaurant in the city. It seems like when anyone asks for a food recommendation downtown, "Have you been to PAI?" is always part of the response. I've been there quite a few times in the past few years, and although I hate what hype does to the perception and expectations we have of food, I have to admit everything on their menu is pretty damn good. A few of my personal favorites are the spring rolls, the signature pad thai, the green curry, and the mango sticky rice. Although the food is really good, the price is also up there. For one appetizer and two mains, our latest lunch there cost around $85, including 15% tip and tax. I'd imagine most people don't want to pay $40+ for one and a half spring rolls and a pad thai. PAI also always has a line. You should expect to wait at least 15-20 minutes no matter the time. That's obviously not their fault, and is actually a testament to their success, but the wait should definitely still be mentioned. Khao San Road is a good option nearby for the same quality, but you might also have to wait a bit. Bangkok Queen Thai Street Food is a bit further, but also pretty solid and is never busy. All in all, PAI is a must-try for Thai food lovers, but isn't worth more than 25 minutes of wait IMO, and is way too pricey.

Every time I come here, I never leave disappointed. Client service is fantastic. Everyone is so nice. The food itself very flavorful. Everything we try is always delicious. It's definitely a vibe and it's always on my list when I come to the city.

This place is always bustling with people, giving off the vibes of a weekend night in Pai. The staff are energetic and incredibly friendly. Despite being packed with customers, the food came out really fast. Hands down the best Thai restaurant outside of Thailand. My recommendation is to start with the Garlic Tofu and Mango Slaw. The Khao Soi is a must, bursting with flavor. We tried it with braised beef this time, and it was cooked to perfection: super tender and rich. My go-to entrée is the Khao Pla Tawt (golden fried fish). It's crispy on the outside, while the meat is tender enough to fall apart easily, pairing perfectly with their homemade green curry. There are plenty of drink options. I'm on the sweeter side and love both their red and white sangria. Can't wait to come back!

PAI is still the best Thai restaurant in town, IMO. Looking at the website, they now have 5 locations! Congrats! I believe this is their OG location and it is in the basement level of the building, it is very large and spans several rooms. We were here (5 people) to introduce some long time Torontonians to the city's Thai food scene. Excellent service as always, Google's estimated wait times were accurate, 30 mins (Sunday around 17:00-18:00) and they call you when it's your turn. There is tons of seating, but it is super popular, so plan accordingly. We had: - Grabong 'Squash Fritters' (Dine-in Only), deep fried butternut squash, always a great starter - Pad Gra Prow, rice with stir-fried meat topped with an egg, large portion - Pad See Ew, house made noodles with stir fried toppings, nice wok-he Overall, compared to other dine-out locations, their pricing is amazing what you get. The decor is excellent and intimate, there are lots of servers for all the tables. It was busy as always! Will be introducing more friends PAI in the future.

We ordered 2 cocktails to start with the tapioca dumplings and green papaya fritters. The drinks came out immediately. I had the Tincture Perfect, which was outstanding. It was the perfect mix of sweet, sour, floral and bitter. I loved it! My husband had the Unit 75 which he really enjoyed. The grapfruit bitters rounded out the sweetness of the Chambord and the sourness of the lemon. We decided to order another cocktail each just as our food arrived. I had the I Have a Lychee Secret. It was a little on the sweet side, but was very yummy. I loved the black pepper on top but didn't really taste much cilantro. My husband had La Passionista which was great. It was so well-balanced and flavourful. The dumplings were AMAZING! The butterly pea infused tapioca gave the perfect bouncy, chewy texture to the outside and the mushroom and radish centres were so tasty. Our waitress explained that they should be eaten in a lettuce cup with cilantro, mint and peanuts. YUM! Such a flavour bomb. The only thing I would have changed would be to add some sort of a spicy, salty, sour dipping sauce like a nuoc cham. The green papaya fritters were also just fantastic. They were crispy, crunchy and the dipping sauce was a little spicy and sweet. All in all, we really enjoyed our meal and would 100% return. I have already reccomended them to others.

Service was very friendly. Normally this would be a 5-star review, but there were a few things that stopped that... the dining room is just way too bright, I prefer more comfortable, lower lit environments to elevate the overall experience. We ordered an appetizer, which came out first, but then they didn't give us the time to finish it. The main dishes came out right after, so we were rushed. Lastly, there were some items on the dinner menu we wanted to try, but they refused, only brunch items were available. Food portions were good, but could have been bigger. Ignoring all of that, the food is amazing. If you're into Thai food, this place is a must.
