Been to this Thai place a couple times now - it's a pretty solid restaurant. We ordered the garlic shrimp, pad Thai, khao soi, and pad gra prao. The star of the meal was definitely the pad gra prao - it was so flavorful! I wasn't the biggest fan of the khao soi - it was a bit too heavy / thick for my liking. Not pictured here but I've gotten the curries which are quite yummy. The ambience is a bit crowded, there a lot of tables in a small space. There's also always a 30-40 min wait. Recently came back here for dinner with friends. And still confident to say a solid spot for Thai food. I tried their squash fritters for the first time and they were really good. Crispy and flavourful, with a tangy flavour dipped in their plum sauce. It's a great stater to share with everyone at the table. I got the pad see ew again with chicken this time. The medium spice level gave a good kick to it. I love how fresh the rice noodles are. I'd easily get this again many day. My friends got the curry and the pad thai and they both really enjoyed their meal. No reservations allowed but we came on a weekday around 7pm and were able to get a table on the patio right away. Finally got to visit Khao San Road!! I liked the ambiance of this place, as it was nice and cozy! The service was fast and friendly as well. I ordered the Khao Soi and we also tried the Bangkok Style Pad Thai and Pad See Ew. All the dishes quantity was alot. From the pictures online, it looked like it would not be filling, but it was just right. All the main dishes were $21.75. The Khao Soi was super creamy and you can choose your protein and spice level! They didn't skimp out on the protein, the bowl was loaded. It was so creamy that it became alittle too rich for me at the end. I think if I visit next time, I would opt to try another dish. PAI for those who don't want to have to reserve a month in advance. I've been to both several times and I'll be honest, they're on the same level. Prices are reasonable and flavors are great. Expect 30 min plus line during weekend evenings, but there's a cozy bar upstairs where you can wait. Service was good overall. Perfect to catch up with friends. Khao San Road serves solid Thai food. The portions are large, the ambiance is nice, and the service is quick and efficient. I like how you can customize each dish with your choice of protein. There's sometimes daily specials as well. The only con is I found it a bit salty, but I think that's just outside food. I recommend any of the curries and the fritters. I came here for dinner with two of my girl friends and we had a great time! There was a bit of a wait when we went, so if you can, be sure to book reservations! The inside of the restaurant is lively and fun, but space can be a bit tight. Service was very friendly and quick. My friends and I ordered the garlic chicken appetizer, khao soi, and bangkok style pad thai. The entrees were a huge portion and the three of us were able to share two entrees and still have left-overs. Everything was phenomenal, with strong fragrant flavors and good textures. Squash Fritters: I absolutely adore fritters, and its my goto starter at most thai places. But i found them to be a bit overfried. This Thai-style Pad Gra Prao with basil leaves, garlic, and Thai chili was delicious! The Pad See Ew was also unique; those who like slightly sweet flavors will probably love it. You can choose the spiciness level yourself. I initially chose normal spicy, but the staff said it might be too spicy, so I hesitated and changed it to medium spicy. The rice noodles were cooked perfectly, the bean sprouts and onions were fresh, and the peanuts were crunchy. I loved the bits of tofu in it and the added beef went so well with the dish. The Khao Soi was a big contrast because its milder flavors. From the sweetness of the coconut milk to the aromatics from the golden curry to the crispy noodles on top, this dish came together so beautifully. So, Khao San Road is kind of off the beaten path, but since you're in downtown Toronto, nothing is truly off the beaten path. The best way to describe this place is very unassuming. You walk in and it feels like a takeout counter--definitely no glitz and glamour here. So, it's all about the food and, of course, the service. The interior is oddly L-shaped, narrow, packed with people, and a little noisy. As you glance around, pretty much every table has an order of squash fritters as an appetizer. Naturally, we indulged in these tasty, crispy delicacies and made sure to get an order of the hot chilies on the side. This allowed us to dip the fritters in the provided sauce while adding some nice hot chili flavor. We ordered the pad thai, and I'll tell you, it's been a long time since I've had an excellent pad thai. I would rate this as the best I've had to date--perfectly balanced flavors, the right amount of texture, and the rice noodles were the perfect width. Phenomenal. We also had the pad gra prao (beef), but in comparison to the pad thai, it just couldn't hit the same level. This place has been around for a long time but I never got a chance to try it out as it is very busy and they don't take reservations. Food (4/5) - overall it was pretty solid. - Pad Thai was flavourful and had a good balance of ingredients cooked well. - Pad See Ew - not bad and cooked well but maybe a bit too sweet vs savoury. - Pad Gra Prao - interesting mix with the egg on top and flavourful beef. - Squash Fritters - thought they were pretty good and like the dipping sauce. Service (4/5) - our servers were hustling and food came pretty quickly. We only had to wait 10 mins to get a table of 4 but it was a Monday night. I've seen much longer waits on other nights so that's a challenge for sure. Atmosphere (3.5/5) - not much to it... pretty basic layout and furniture. L shaped configuration with tables spread all around. Parking can be tricky if weekends. Overall (4/5) - overall a solid place for hearty Thai food. ‼RESTAURANT IS A 100/10 ‼ Ambiance and Service. There was a line that continued outside of the restaurant. BUSY. we waited an hour until we could be seated (note: this restaurant is better for smaller parties). However, all of the staff was extremely friendly and although the waiting area wasn't very roomy, the worker brought us extra seats. The decorations are colorful and give off good vibes. Our waiter was very attentive and interacted with us rather than just acting as a server. Several times, we had our server return to our table and make extra orders, but he did it all with a smile on his face. Food: Initially, I was taken aback by the small menu, but the hour wait has never been more worth it. Despite The restaurant being filled basically to max capacity, food arrived FAST. Oh my gosh this is literally my new favorite Thai restaurant or even favorite restaurant in general. The food was DELICIOUS and I can't even describe the incredible flavors. There was one dish they sold out of that we couldn't try but every dish made us forget about it. Coming from a family of chefs (including me) I've been spoiled with delicious food my whole life, which has made me a bit particular when it comes to food. However, there was not ONE dish I didn't enjoy. I have never had a better pad Thai/flat noodles than here. EVERYTHING was flavorful while not being oily or sickening. Our party ordered SEVERAL dishes (all ended up being family size) but we finished nearly all of it. I can't find words to describe the food so I think u should just visit yourself. I went here on a Tuesday evening around 6 PM and it was packed. 12 people waiting to sit down, people entering and exiting for takeouts. Very busy restaurant. Thankfully, I was a solo traveler and was able to get a seat within a few minutes at the bar by myself, the service was fantastic. I always think sitting at the bar enhances a service experience at restaurants. For appetizer I had the fresh rolls which had a fantastic sauce to pair with them and garlic chicken. It's been a while since I came here, keep in mind it's a pricey place, we ordered pad kee mao, green curry fried rice, khao soi, squash fritters, fried rice. The service was quick, waitress was attentive always filled our water when empty, this place is just as good as I tried it before. Their Thai iced tea was perfectly balanced between sweet and the natural tea flavour. Their Khao Soi was one of the best I've had. The curry was amazing - perfectly salty, spicy, and sweet. We ordered the different pad thai's and honestly, I don't know which one I preferred. I liked the bankok style just as much as the usual pad thai. Chewy noodles with a delicious, fresh wok taste. Oh so good! The Khao Soi was also delicious. Very creamy and flavourful. The only thing I didn't love was the tom yum soup. It was very very salty for me, but I did love the flavours. 100% would want to return if we're ever in the area. We parked just around the corner where there's this little pay to park lot.
