Spicy noodle chicken
Maya L.

This place is very spacious and has a great ambience. Come here for dinner with some friends, we ordered the chicken satay, spicy noodle chicken and pad Thai chicken. Loved the satay chicken with the peanut sauce. I had the spicy noodle chicken, it was a good portion with lots of chicken and vegetables. I wasn't the biggest fan of the sauce so I would recommend sticking with the pad thais to be safe. Overall, the staff were attentive and friendly. Would recommend this place for lunch and dinner!

It's a large Thai restaurant in which the door is interesting to open. Upon entering, I felt it was quite dark for a Thai place, especially for lunch. Wait - the washroom is even darker than the dining area!! Geesh, let there be light!! There's a limit of how far one can go to be romantic, but when you have to find light to see the menu (which is in tiny font), that's not cool. Due the pandemic, we got to choose our tables only to be told in five minutes to move over to another table in case other customers came. What??? There were over 12 tables and not social distancing for sure. At the end, no other customers entered during the lunch period. Sadly. We went for their lunch menu only to be told it's online only. Bummer. (We ate lunch there years ago.) My noodle dish came in a cool fish plate which I really liked and admired. I want one!! The food was decent, but portion size is smaller. My hubby had their pad Thai. Nothing special he said. Verdict - will only go back for a special occasion. I'll like to admire my surroundings in better lighting.

Trying authentic Thai place located downtown Oakville. It's a popular place. There is a small wait for tables. Seated on the outdoor patio, tables are spaced apart for social distancing. I ordered Phad Thai with chicken. The noodles had the right chewiness and was flavourful. Good portions. My friend ordered the Curry Chicken & side of Jasmine rice. Nice sized portions with generous thinly sliced chicken. I would go back to try more on the menu.

Reading reviews for Soontorn Banh Thai in downtown Oakville, Ontario, suggests a possible change of ownership or chef somewhere in the distant past. Regardless, our experience there on a recent weekday evening left the impression that the kitchen had lost its touch and service/management hadn't figured out what to do about it. Once we realized that they had no parking lot despite affirming it did on their Yelp page, we walked into a dark, yet well appointed dining room. Service was provided by nicely dressed seater and server, so we hoped for auspicious moments to come. Unfortunately, they really didn't arrive. By the time we sampled our order of Tom Yum Soup, Coconut Chicken Soup, Pad Thai (shrimp) and Spicy Noodles (chicken, described as "Pad Kee Mao"), we realized that the kitchen lacked appropriate spices for each dish, and was heavy handed with sugar and pepper, not nearly in proper proportion, nor as called for by recipe. To explain: The Tom Yum Soup was sweet, when it should have been sour and hot with the influence of lemongrass. There was none to be found. The same sugariness was present in the Pad Thai, where a subtle sweetness mixed with other spices would be acceptable. Those other wonderful Thai tones were missing as were the ground peanuts. The Spicy Noodles (Pad Kee Mao by their own admission) also lacked the key ingredient, lemongrass, and small red hot chili pepper or flakes to bring the expected flavor and heat. Rather, it was loaded primarily with white pepper, salt and another unidentified spice, which although not seen, packed a strong punch of the wrong taste. Further, rather than broad noodles usually present in this dish, much smaller gauge noods were found at the bottom of the fish bowl platter. So disappointing. And, what about the over abundance of broccoli and onion and the absence of carrot, celery or other greens? The final insult was that our request for chopsticks was met with distain as if we were bad children for even asking. I am not Thai, but having been there twice on business and dined in both fine restaurants and indulged in their great street food. I never had to ask for sticks, because they were ever present. We were just trying for a more Asian feel to the meal. That attitude killed whatever hope we had for redemption from the house. So, cool the dismissiveness, and work on warming your costumer service, not to mention securing proper provisions.

Vegetable pha thai

Came back a few months later with other friends, ordered a few dishes to try, taste was consistent but slightly on the salty side in general. The eggplant delight still is my favourite dish, the pha Thai was a bit soggy, overly sweeten, off the balance between sweet and salty. beef and pineapple chicken curry both were excellent.

I will start with yelp lead me a stray... not on the food but the parking... they do not have a private parking...street parking and I can't parallel part plus you have to pay to park. But since it was after 6 it was free. Now to the food omg so good. I asked for spicy and they delivered without going over. The flavors were so good. The potion sizes wasn't too small or big ... just right. Now they would had gotta four stars but I had to lower it for service . They forgot about me after I finished dinner. I finished they took my plate and I never saw my waitress again, but she passed right by me and never said anything. I had to ask a random person to order dessert. And that is after I sat for 5 mins of no one.

I love their food here it is one of the best in the area. They're very accommodating for those with dietary restrictions which isn't always as easy as you may think at Thai restaurants. Some of them make their sauces ahead of time, but not these guys! They make everything fresh. My one complaint is the lack of light inside. It is very dark! Beautiful decor but a bit depressing at times. Especially during the day! Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars. The food deserves 5 stars for sure!

I probably would've given it five stars but they went Really cheap on us In padthai they were supposed to put egg there was no egg when we asked for egg, well I got billed $$$ for that I wanted pineapple I got billed for that as well.. $3.00 for a small glass of Coke with no refills really!!!

Satay chicken
Kishan V.

Ordered the chicken satay for appetizers which was quite good, soft and flavorful I actually enjoyed this the most. We also ordered prawns and a beef dish which were good but lacking in flavor and spice and had far too many broccolis to accompany both dishes. Service was good but I've been to better Thai restaurants.

Very authentic Thai here. The dim lighting and decor make it feel intimate. Service was great as well. Prob one of the best Thai in gta.

My friend and I have been planning to meet up for a while. Our schedules and her moving to Hamilton…read morethis summer had delayed our plan, but we got it together last Saturday. For years, I lived the furthest from the office in our department. Well, that title has been bequeathed to my friend, who lives 60 km from the office. Luckily, we don't need to commute for the rest of 2020 due to the pandemic. If it were a contest, I'd move further east to win... haha! We both love Thai food. I looked at my Yelp bookmarks and suggested that we do takeout from Funky Thai. She liked the name and said, "Let's get funky!" Our plan was to find a park to chat and chow down. She was game. She got to the restaurant a couple of minutes before I did and texted me. I saw the Econo gas station and my eyes immediately looked at all the red signage that Funky Thai had. It's in a completely nondescript corner. I pulled in. There is a patch of road that is gravel. So, if you're turning in too fast, I can predict wiping out when it's slick. I backed into a parking spot next to my friend's car. To see her huge smile again was wonderful. I haven't seen her since I was last in the office back in early March! We walked into the restaurant. It is takeout only. Tables strategically placed next to one another provide a fort-like structure. The woman came over. She was nice. We saw the menu posted on the side. I went with curry pad thai with chicken. You can also do a mix of chicken and beef, and other protein combos for an extra charge. She asked whether I had any allergies, as chopped peanuts go on top of the pad thai. Nope, I was good. This combo came with an appetizer. I chose the veggie spring roll, as did my friend. I asked the woman whether she had any canned drinks. Her response? "Go to the gas station. It's cheaper. It's $1.75 here." Wow! Talk about being honest and promoting Econo Gas. My friend got the pineapple cashew nut fried rice with chicken and beef. It sounded good. Considering that we both did a mini road trip to Oakville, we both needed to use the washroom. You can only use it only if you're a customer. We asked if we could. The woman first went to the washroom to check. She then came back and moved one of the Tetris-like tables away so that my friend could walk over there. Once she came back, it was my turn. The washroom was clean and spacious. My food was ready pretty fast. My friend's took a bit longer. Still, it was fast considering that we were the only folks there. While I was in the washroom, my friend asked the nice woman where we could go to eat lunch. She recommended going down to the waterfront. She said that there were many parks. Nice! We chose Bronte Beach Park and drove over there. Once we found a vacant park bench, we had our late lunch. My friend confessed that she ate her veggie spring roll driving over to the park. I knew that it was yummy just from that admission. The veggie spring roll is amazing. It is jammed full of veggies and glass noodles. It was large, crunchy, and so go with the sweet and sour dipping sauce. I'd come back just for the spring roll alone. My curry pad thai was nicely packed. It looked pretty. It tasted yummy. The noodles were perfect. The curry wasn't spicy. I went with mild, but I would do medium next time. The chicken was white meat, which was tender and yummy. I also got tofu, which was an added bonus. The veggies were delicious. I ate the whole thing. I didn't have a chance to take a photo of my friend's pineapple fried rice. She plowed into it, as she was hungry. It looked amazing. She loved it. I need to order some when I'm in the neighbourhood again. This Thai restaurant also offers Vietnamese food fare. I'd love to try some in future. We both paid using debit. The woman brings the machine to you. This eatery is in such an odd location, but it's definitely worth visiting if you're in Oakville. The service is quick and efficient. I had a great experience. So a neighbor of ours highly recommend us to try this Thai restaurant, I was very skeptical since the reviews were pretty low.None the less I did give it a shot today and was pleasantly surprised and happy with the interior, service and food. So I came here right after my doctors appointment and decided to get a couple of entrees to try out.I opted to stick with the lunch menu.My order was a spicy Thai basil chicken and glass noodles with vegetables and chicken.Every lunch special comes with a soup or spring roll, I got one of each. The spring roll were absolutely divine much bigger and stuffed well compared to many other Thai restaurant. The hot and sour soup was pretty standard. The main entrees came out within 10-12 minutes after ordering. Both the dishes were so so flavorful and the portions were generous.I also felt that they don't skimp on their meat. Both my entrees were loaded with meat. I ate as much as I could and took the remaining home for dinner. My server was this middle aged gentleman, he was fast and kept checking on me.He also packed my leftovers which I thought was super nice. The place itself is very clean and definitely not that bad as it may look from outside.I highly recommend going here for lunch special and more. I do look forward to coming here again to try out some more dishes with my family.

The rice was slightly undercooked over oiled and flavorless . The shrimp were fresh but had more skin on than I preferred and not much seasoning to it. I was disappointed for my fried rice standards. On the other hand, the fresh veggie rolls were fantastic flavorful like Fourth of July in my mouth. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt because the fried rice was made very last minute because they kind of screwed up my order a little bit so I'm letting them slide, but I'm sure the rest of the food is delicious.
