Mocktail
Shanna H.

First night in Toronto. Gusto was within walking distance, like most places downtown, from where we were staying. It was a Tuesday. We booked on Open Table for 5:30p. Atmosphere was very nice. We were seated upstairs. Very open and bright. You could tell it was a hot spot for people hanging out after work. Menu didn't disappoint. I don't drink. My mocktail was very good. My friends had no complaints about their wine choice. Our service was super nice. I love that they ask about allergies. It was an important thing for our group. We don't get that state side. No complaints about the food. It was a lot. We took it to go, but everything was gone before midnight. We will chalk it up to all the walking on top of how good it was.

The pasta was way too al dente. Pasta was sticking to my teeth and I couldnt enjoy my food. The focaccia was way too salty. For the price point and hype, im really disappointed

Whenever I'm craving good Italian food, this is my go to! Everything you've heard about their mafalde ai fungi is true: the sauce is creamy, savoury, and has a strong truffle flavour, and the noodles are the perfect al dente. I tried a few pizzas as well, and they've always been good. Their patate e salsicce pizza has potatoes on it, which I thought was really unique, and I'm glad that I tried it because it was delicious. The ambience is great for a date night or fun night out with friends or family. I recommend making a reservation because it gets quite busy. Nothing on the menu will disappoint!

Super cool retro gas station vibe with patio, bar and enclosed roof deck dining. We were promptly seated at our reservation time and offered water or a cocktail. Our server was attentive and helpful with food and beverage recommendations. We ordered several dishes, burger, mushroom risotto, veal (as big as the plate), salad and pasta. All very good. I felt my burger and fries could have been warmer, the risotto was quite a small portion, a little larger would have been better, the veal was huge but no sides included, all contorni have to be ordered. Only one in our party had dessert, a little jar of chocolate mousse. It was a 4 out of 5. He said the nut topping should have been a little saltier. The space is very cool, the ambiance is cozy and good for group events or a fun night out. Meals are reasonably priced, as are the drinks. We would eat here again.

I've been wanting to try their pasta for the longest time, so Winterlicious felt like the perfect excuse to finally visit. The interior has more of an industrial vibe, exposed elements, a lively atmosphere, and a spacious dining room. Service was pretty good overall, the staff were attentive and the pacing between courses felt smooth. Appetizers: The misticanza (gem lettuce salad with Italian vinaigrette) was super fresh and light. The dressing was nicely balanced, bright without being too sharp or acidic. The arancini had a crispy exterior with a creamy risotto center, offering a nice contrast in texture. The carpaccio featured thinly sliced, tender beef topped with mushrooms, which I enjoyed for the added earthiness. That said, I've had more memorable versions elsewhere. Mains: The mafalde al funghi (mushroom pasta with truffle cream) was the standout for me. The truffle flavor was subtle, but the pasta itself really impressed me. It was perfectly al dente with a great chew and a very generous portion size. The Gusto "Americano" burger was fairly standard. The patty was a bit thick, so the ratio felt slightly off, but the Tuscan fries and dipping sauce were excellent. Desserts: The tiramisu was classic and not overly sweet, though the portion was smaller than expected. The cannoli was my favorite of the three, the candied orange and pistachio worked really well together. The budino (dark chocolate pudding) was very rich, almost like eating melted chocolate. The sea salt on top added a nice contrast, though I wish there had been a bit more of it. Overall, Winterlicious was a great way to sample a variety of dishes. I'd come back specifically for the mushroom pasta, and I've heard they also sell frozen pasta packs to take home, which is definitely tempting.

All around a great spot. Food was delish, atmosphere is very cute and nice, server was super helpful and gave us bar recommendations nearby. The bolognese serving size was really big too. Highly recommend if you visit Toronto!

When I come back to Toronto. I am DEFINITELY gonna go back here for the mushroom truffle pasta. It's heavenly. We were seated outside and the night was breezy. Felt perfect. The bathroom was a trip on its own haha

Just finished dinner here with the hubs. It was pretty crowded and loud inside so we chose to sit outside. Thank goodness for the heaters because this SoCal girl was freezing. We ordered a cavolo nero (kale salad), mafalde ai funghi (mushroom pasta) and pepperoni pizza. Even though I'm personally not a big fan of kale, the salad was surprisingly tasty. It was not bitter at all! But the show stopper had to be the mushroom pasta. I have never had such a unique looking pasta. The sauce was so good and the pasta was cooked to perfection. The pizza was also delicious. Who knew adding a bit of honey to a pizza would make me like it even more. Service was excellent. A bug flew into our glass of wine and they gave us a new glass that was FULL even though we already drank half! However, the order the dishes came out was a little strange. I expected the salad to come out first and then either the pasta or pizza, but the pasta actually came out first followed by the salad and pizza. Also, the pizza came out surprisingly fast. Overall a very delicious Italian restaurant. A must go to if you're ever in the area.

Pepperoni Pizza & Mafalde ai Funghi

This was my first experience at the famous Gusto 101 My sister and I was at an event down the street and decided to stop by here around 5pm for an early dinner. Since it was such a nice day, we decided to sit on the Patio and it was great! The tables themselves were a little close together for my liking, but sometimes that's how Toronto Patios are. We started with the Arancini which was nice, but not as warm as I would hope. Then we decided to share one pasta dish & one pizza; we got the Pepperoni Pizza & the Mafalde ai Funghi pasta. The Pizza was great! but the pasta was such a small portion, I really wish they gave a bit more especially for the price. The service was good! especially for a busy Sunday evening. Overall it was aa pretty good experience, but I'm not sure I would be back. I have been to one of their sister restaurants, which I liked a lot better, so coming back here is still a possibility.

Gord and I had supper last evening at Gusto 101. It's a former auto garage and keeps up that theme. Our friend and neighbour, Dawn, had given us a gift certificate for Christmas and we finally used it this evening. We ate on the street level patio. It was a busy spot with lots to see! I had a pepperoni pizza with buckwheat honey (half came home for lunch tomorrow). Gord had Mafalde Ai Funghi (portobello, porcini, oyster mushrooms, truffle cream sauce). Both were delicious! Evan took good care of us.

Our friend that grew up in Toronto recommended Gusto 101 to us. I'm glad she did, as we really enjoyed the experience. We sat on the upstairs patio, and there was a great vibe there. It was packed, even on a Tuesday night. We tried the famous mushroom pasta (actually 2 portions of it), and it lived up to the hype. The truffle flavor was terrific. The kale Caesar salad was also excellent. They don't have a kids menu, but they were able to make smaller versions and those were good also. Service was great also. I would definitely recommend getting a reservation.

Cavolo Nero

The food here may seem unassuming but it was absolutely delicious. As someone that is not usually into mushrooms, the Mafalde al funghi will forever have changed my mind. It is probably one of the best things I have ever eaten. The pasta was perfectly cooked and held up to the creaminess of the sauce it was drizzled with. The kale salad was so flavorful and simple, but made even a kale skeptic a kale fanatic and the service was very attentive. We chose to dine outside since it was the perfect fall evening, but they have multiple indoor and outdoor tables.

Fungi Pasta
Steven W.

Their mushroom/fungi pasta is enough to get them a 5/5 alone. Ordered the calamari, 2 pizzas, burger and 2 pastas which all game out fairly quickly at the height of dinner time. Service was just okay on this occasion and we felt the cannoli was a bit much with the candied orange. Overall their pizzas and pastas are the stars of the show and would 100% come back.

I came here with my best friend for a birthday dinner, and I could immediately see why this place has lasted for decades. It's tucked inside an old house on Elm Street, and the whole restaurant has that warm, family-run charm that makes you feel like people have been coming here for years and bringing more people back with them. The tables are definitely close together, so it's a little tight when the restaurant gets busy, but honestly that also adds to the lively energy because there was a steady flow of people coming in all night. Food-wise, there were a few dishes that really stood out. The carpaccio is such a good order, very thinly sliced raw beef, simple and classic, and honestly one of the most reasonably priced versions I've seen. My personal favorite was the prosciutto & melon. It's such a simple dish, but when it's done well, it really hits, and this one did. The real star for me though was the Cozze Marinara. The mussels were plump, tender, and clean, with no sandy bits, and the garlicky tomato sauce was so good that I ended up scooping it up with bread until the plate was basically spotless. We also tried the Vitello Marsala with mushrooms and Penne Arrabbiata, which felt very classic and comforting. If you like traditional Italian flavors, this is the kind of dish that will make you happy. That said, I personally wouldn't recommend mixing the meat and pasta together too much, I think they shine better on their own. Later we also ordered the garlic grilled seafood fettuccine because we were enjoying ourselves so much, and that one was much lighter in flavor. Nice enough, but probably not the best choice if you like richer or bolder pasta dishes. By the end we were completely full and had to leave a few strands of fettuccine behind, which almost never happens for me. Overall, Donatello feels like the kind of neighborhood Italian restaurant people return to for comfort, generous portions, and that warm family run atmosphere. It may not be the most spacious or modern place, but it has heart, and some dishes were genuinely memorable.

There is an upstairs balcony seating but I've never sat there. During warm weather, there is plenty of roadside outdoor seating too. This is my fourth time here but I never wrote a review fir the restaurant before. We ordered the following: 1. Shrimp Perno (daily special $6/shrimp). Jumbo Shrimp sautéed in garlic, white wine, tomatoes, scallions, and finished off with a shot of perno liquor. 2. Rack of Lamb (daily special $59.95). Four pieces of lamb in a rack, with a rich portion wine reduced sauce, that has a touch of mint to it, and Penne Pasta in a tomato rose sauce. The table bread was really good. The crust was crispy but the inside was fluffy. The soft butter that came it was so tasty. The bread was perfect for dipping in the sauce that came with the shrimp. We asked for a second basket of bread and they put two loafs in the second basket. It was too much so they were willing to let us take it home. The shrimps were definitely jumbo. It was so filling. Two pieces (per person) were good enough as an appetizer. The shrimps were perfectly cooked. We requested the lamb be cooked medium rare. It was definitely medium rare. It was juicy and did not have a gamey taste. It tastes great. The pasta was perfectly al dente. The tomato rose sauce was really good. They offered to grind parmesan cheese and pepper so we got both. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking and paid parking lots. Review 2025-187

It's a dining experience you don't see every day in Toronto. Even the washrooms are memorable, tucked away in the basement in what used to be old jail cells, which adds to the charm and gives the whole place a bit of personality. We went for an early Sunday dinner before a concert at Massey Hall. The restaurant got pretty busy as the evening went on, but it never felt chaotic. The atmosphere is lovely and lively, a great choice for a special night out or a pre-show meal. We started with Calamari alla Griglia with mixed greens, capers, onions, and fresh tomatoes. It was a fresh, bright appetizer with good balance. For mains, my date had the Spaghetti in Canna a Mare with clams, mussels, calamari, scallop, and tiger shrimp in a tomato sauce. The menu described it as mildly spicy, but it definitely had a noticeable kick. Still, the flavours were really good. I ordered the Ravioli al Brasato with braised beef, butter, sage, and parmigiano. It was tasty and comforting, though portion-wise I could have used a few more ravioli. I was still a bit hungry after and honestly double the size would have been perfect for me. For dessert we shared the Tiramisu with espresso-soaked savoiardi, mascarpone, and cocoa. I had an amaro while my date finished with zambuca. A sweet and satisfying way to wrap up the meal. The service was friendly, though drinks came out a bit slower than expected. Terroni's food is tasty, the setting is gorgeous, and it's easy to see why locals keep coming back. It's not cheap, but the quality and ambience make it worth trying, especially for dinner before a show or a relaxed date night in one of Toronto's most unique spaces.

There were four flights of stairs to get up to the first floor with the bar and main dining area. There was another two flights of stairs to get to the upper bar (which I was too tired to walk up to). The drinks at the bar were good and the staff were all great. We started with passed apps. Some of the flavour combinations were just off (the skewer with fruit, cheese and something else) - like they paired the wrong cheese with the fruit. The meal itself was a seat down meal (family style) which did take over two hours to complete for the amount of guests that were present (over 200 ppl). My favorite dish was the tomato and mozza salad. My most disappointed dish was the ragu pasta. Though containing a good amount of meat it was not saucy at all. The pizza was the brocolini was good as well. The reason I gave this restaurant three stars is strictly for the lack of elevator and the food quality vs the price. For what you are paying, there is so much higher quality food in the city and I honestly think you can get better bang for buck elsewhere.

The artichokes were mediocre (loved the sauce they came with). Worst of all was the "Ontario peaches" with the burrata were totally canned peaches - could've even been dole brand! This place has amazing potential with the location and vibe - but the food just was not it. Small portions and the price didn't match what was served. The service was friendly but nothing too crazy. Our server was great at helping us pick our wine, he mentioned that their wines are all on the dry side which is perfect for me, I'm not one for sweet wines. The combination of the peach and mint went really well with the burrata. Light and easy to eat. The patio at night is one of the highlights. The only small complaint was it did take a while to get our wine after we ordered it and a little while to get our check. Otherwise cute spot.
