I was craving Italian food recently and decided to give Amano a try. It's an upscale spot serving comforting Italian dishes with a refined twist. I ordered the spaghetti bolognese, which came presented in an almost like a pot pie shape, it was rounded, with some of the noodles baked, which gave it a crispy texture. It was topped with some fresh greens, and the bolognese sauce was delicious. The standout of the meal was the lemon meringue "pie", which to me felt like a blend between a classic lemon meringue pie and a baked Alaska, complete with lemon garnish custard and fresh berries, along with graham cookie crumbs. Upon arrival you can do coat check which is always a nice touch at restaurants so that you're not crowded at your seat with your jackets, especially during winter. Here's what we got: Italian Diaspora 5/5 - Amaras Espadin Verde mezcal (subbed tequila), Aperol, passionfruit, lime, soda. This was refreshing and a great drink to hav. House Focaccia 4/5 - A great sharing item for the table. Good but nothing too special and remarkable about it. Soft bread with a crusty exterior. Served with olive oil, topped with sea salt Provolone & Pear Arancini 5/5 - I'd say this was great. It was arancini served with a drizzle of burnt honey, rosemary, and sea salt. Fabulous experience and stellar find thanks to Yelp. I was in town on a work trip and had the pleasure of dining with a few colleagues. After browsing Yelp for a restaurant near our office, I stumbled upon this spot and quickly mad a reservation for four. The space is dimly lit, making it slightly romantic and cozy inside. We were seated at a large comfy booth which was plenty of space for us. The service started out great and remained that way through our entire meal. We started out with cocktails and I opted for a glass of wine while the others ordered cocktails... all of which were stunning. We also started with a few appetizers. The house focaccia with olive oil and sea salt was light and fluffy and the provolone and pear arancini was delicious. Our entire table could have made a meal out of those alone. Very unique, too. For my entree I ordered the butternut squash ravioli and it was devine. The sauce was very creamy, the pasta was cooked perfectly, and the sage and parm dusted on top was a nice touch. I ate every single bite and could have kept going, it was so good. The others at the table all had great things to say about their dishes and we all agreed this was a wonderful restaurant. I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance of this restaurant. If you're looking for a nice out in Toronto and craving some pasta, I would suggest this :) First impressions was that it was fancy. My party of four booked reservations, which I recommend, due to the fact that by the time we were there after an hour, the place was packed and busy. Upon arriving, they took my coat and gave me a placeholder number to give back in exchange for my coat back. The service was also amazing. Water was refilled without ever having to ask and the servers made sure to check in on us every couple minutes. The food also came out quite quick. The place is kinda quite dark, so if you're looking to take pictures it might be quite difficult. I ordered the pomegranete no'hijto and the pappardelle al funghi e tartufo pasta and loved both! We ate dinner here last night and very much enjoyed the experience. So few places (none?) by us offer coat check, but on a frigid and damp evening it was appreciated. Our server, Will, was attentive and informative. He introduced us to a new wine that was a great accompaniment to our dinner (and 1/2 off on Sunday). We opted for two different 3 course meals. Both of us began with their truffle salad, made with crisp and fresh gem lettuce, apples and grated pecorino. My main was mushroom and squash risotto while the spouse chose branzino. The fish was seared but moist and flavorful. There was some heat from a touch of red chilies in the sauce. For dessert I had tiramisu, served prettily with some nice additions on top. Husband chose the brownie with ice cream and caramel that he raved about. The atmosphere was kind of dark and quiet, just perfect for a romantic getaway weekend. This place will definitely be a repeat on our next Toronto sojourn. I forgot to mention the price. At $55 each for the food, we felt it was worth every penny. The salad was nice and refreshing but I would say the Beef Carpaccio and Arancini were a better choice. I really enjoyed my chicken, it was juicy and flavourful. My friends ordered the Grilled Sea Bass and thought it was a bit fishy. I enjoyed the tiramisu, however I thought the cream to lay finger ratio was off, resulting in the dessert tasting too creamy. Since the pandemic started, I have been pretty removed from the downtown food scene. So I was excited to try Amano for a intimate company dinner. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Thursday night in early December. We had a bunch of appetiziers to share including the arancini, bone marrow, truffle salad and fungi pizza. The stand out appetizer was the truffle salad, which consist of baby gem lettuce, truffle vinaigrette and pecorino. It was a simple dish but the truffle flavour really stood out. For the main, I ordered the osso bucco which is the braised veal shank served on a bed of creamy polenta, topped with shaved horseradish and gremolata (parsley based topping). The veal shank was fall of the bone, but not quite melt in the mouth. It had a slightly rough texture. The polenta was creamy and went well with the gremolata flavour. My colleague had their tomato based pasta and added their housemade burrata. She loved their burrata! read more

If you're looking for a restaurant with a fresh delicious approach to Italian food, you should check out Amano Trattoria, a new Italian restaurant that opened up steps from St Lawrence Market. It is the newest restaurant of similarly named restaurants in Upper Canada Mall and Union Station. Limited paid street parking is available outside of the restaurant. There is also a Green P parking garage just south of the restaurant off of the Esplanade. I love the vibe of this place. Dim but moody romantic lighting, upscale casual feel. There are a variety of seating areas including booths for 4, tables for two, longer tables for larger parties, as well as a more private room that can be curtained off towards the back. The bar occupies a prominent place at the centre of the restaurant, with a screen playing the movie Life Is Beautiful in the background. Amano Trattoria would be a great place to go on a date or hang out with friends. I made reservations a day in advance for my friend and I to dine on a Wednesday evening. After checking for proof of vaccination, we were each seated at a booth for two. The menu includes small bites, appetizers, pasta, main entrees, and also features pinza. Pinza is an oval shaped, hand pressed pizza made from all-purpose flour and rice or soy flour. Our server Luca recommended the Bologna Pride ($18): mortadella pizza with pistachios, fior de latte, and mortadella. The pinza was light, slightly creamy, with a savouriness from the mortadella that was unlike any deli sliced mortadella I'd ever eaten before. The mortadella was thinly sliced and I appreciate that it was not salty. The crust was crisp perfection and I liked how they provided pizza scissors for easier slicing. The pistachios imparted a textural contrast and nuttiness. I really enjoyed the pinza as a crisp and fresh alternative to traditional pizza. We also ordered the mussels tagliolini ($16) which had a light white wine, garlic, and chili based sauce where the mussels flavour shone throughout. The noodles were freshly made, and the dish overall was quite light. I enjoyed the texture that the pangratatto added to the dish. Wine prices are a bit steep. But our two dishes plus a glass of red wine came to $56 plus tip which I thought was more than reasonable for the quality of the food we had. The next day, I'm still thinking about the wonderful experience at Amani Trattoria and am looking forward to going back to try more of their delicious dishes. read more

Went to this place during the first week that it was open. The location use to be Uncle Ray's but now the same group opened a new concept for some fine dining Italian food. We made reservations but I believe there were a few tables still available. Loved the Crudo and Branzino which were the highlight of the night along with a good wine selection. Both Truffle Salad and Charred Broccoli were just average. The Fritto Misto came with calamari, shrimp, fennel, zucchini, and smoked pepperoncini aioli but it was a bit too battered. They had some pasta and pizza dishes but we opted for the ones noted previously as we wanted something different. Decor is nice and service was great. We ended off the night with Hazelnut & Dark Chocolate Torte and Pavlova. The winner was the latter with lemon curd, blueberry compote, and chantilly cream. We came in for the weekend dinner service; although relatively empty inside, we did come at the very beginning of service and it began filling up by the time we were leaving. For the service, we had the Beef Carpaccio, The Anchovy Pizza, the Rigatoni and the Grilled Branzino, along with a couple glasses of wine. Overall the meal and underlying dishes were intentional and tasty, with the clear standout being the Anchovy Pizza. They put the dough in their oven without the sauce or toppings first to build the crust, and then put them on for a final round in the oven. The Branzino and Carpaccio were also very well balanced and fresh. The Rigatoni came with a tender short rib and pork shoulder ragu, but I felt the sauce needed a little bit more depth. I've been to Amano yesterday and it was really nice I love the sweet and salty pizza it was a combination of sweet walnuts next to gorgonzola cheese so delicious. I also ordered fried potatoes which was really nice and crispy. For drink I ordered a classic espresso martini which was so good it was my first time trying the drink. For the dessert we ordered Tiramisu which was not as good as other dishes. I found the lady fingers way too wet and I felt the lack of mascarpone taste. Friday Feb. 10, 2023 my wife and I finally found our new favourite restaurant in T.O. Why? First, the minute we walked in the Hostess was amazing. Then we met Nadine, pleasant and attentive. Asked Raff for a recommendation on the wine and he hit the target! I ordered a specialty cocktail the Italia 75, it was delicious. We had the tasting menu and what we had was all done to perfection. Not one thing could have been improved. There was a small issue with the timing of our meal and all I can say is, if the sign of a GREAT business is how they handle issues, then this is the best restaurant my wife and I have ever been to. Trout size was good, but was barely cooked and so salty, without any rice or potatoes. Bartender delivered wine in glass flasks instead of pouring it from the bottle (so, we didn't see the label). He couldn't tell anything about the wines. Service was so slow. I felt we were treated differently. We had to wait long time between meals (restaurant was not that busy). At the end we got our coffee and had to wait another 10 min for a dessert. They brought it only when I inquired. Happy Birthday message was written in Italian on the plate and it didn't resonate well. I would definitely not go again. read more
