Sansotei Ramen Review Order: Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen Ambience: Sansotei at union station is more like a quick takeout /food court ramen spot than a sit-down restaurant. It's great if you're grabbing something fast, but the seating area wasn't the cleanest and I had to look around for a table that had been wiped down, which wasn't ideal if I am paying 21$ for a bowl of tonkotsu ramen. Food: I tried the black tonkotsu ramen and it was definitely rich and filling. I liked that you can choose between thick or thin noodles, which is a nice touch. That said, the broth was a bit too rich and salty for my taste and could use something to balance it out, maybe an order or Diet Coke. The meat was good but not as tender as I would like. Sides and Pairing Tip: I'd recommend getting a side of gyoza or even a Diet Coke to help cut through how rich, heavy and salty the ramen feels. Value for Money: It's a good option for a quick meal, but it does feel a little expensive for the experience you're getting for that price. Overall: Great for a fast ramen fix when you're on the go, but maybe not the best choice if you're looking for a more comfortable dine-in experience, or more value for money. 3/5

Can't say I was too blown away by the food in this ramen joint located in the food court of Union Toronto Station. I got the Hokkaido scallop ramen in a tomato-based soup, was a little surprised it came in a disposable cup for how much I paid ($17). The flavor was good, but there weren't a whole lot of noodles and only one scallop that tasted like the broth and nothing else. They don't give water here unless you buy it bottled, which made it harder to enjoy a salty noodle dish in a stuffy room. 3.5/5 for flavor, 2-3/5 for everything else.

I tried the Miso Ramen and it was very good. The broth was rich but not too rich, and noodles were cooked perfectly.

They are rapidly expanding! This is the latest location, in the Union Station Food Court. They opened Dec 2019 and are currently in soft opening. They are open Mon-Sun 11am to 7pm. Once the have a grand opening, they may extend the closing time. The food stall looks very modern. One thing that impressed me is a display that show how long each dish will take to prepare! It is constantly changing. So if several other people have ordered the same dish as you, it make take you longer to receive your order. This is a great idea for those how have a train to catch. Since they are part of a food court, you would use the general seating area but there is plenty of seating. Their food has always been good. I'm glad they have expanded into Union Station.

Very tasty ramen inside the recently renovated Union Station. Same quality as other locations which also have some of the best ramen in Toronto, similar in quality to the Tonkatsu ramen found in Japan. Only taking a star off because the prices to add extra meat and eggs were very steep, but I guess some of that is just the cost of dining out in 2022. Definitely get the Black Tonkatsu, very garlicky and rich.

Sansotei is probably my favorite ramen restaurant in Toronto and the GTA. I heard about the opening at the Union Station food court and came by for lunch while I was in the area. The lines here are long. Even though they have what looks like a fairly efficient assembly line, it takes a while to receive your food. I waited 15 minutes. Your ramen comes in a to-go container and they'll bag it for you if you're not eating in the food court. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen with thin noodles. It comes with pieces of chashu pork, black fungus, green onions, and a soft-boiled egg. The chashu pieces were fairly large and tender. The ramen broth was rich and creamy. The noodles were just the right softness. They also soaked up some of the amazing broth. The soft-boiled egg was perfectly cooked. I was skeptical that the ramen would taste as good in a to-go container, but I was proven wrong. Sansotei at Union Station is definitely worth the visit if you have the time to wait.

Grabbed a quick lunch here during work. I got the miso black ramen. It was rich, hearty and flavourful. The soup base was amazing! I also got Gyoza on the side which were disappointing. They really lacked flavour. The ramen is definitely worth the try :)

We got there on a Friday night on a snow storm and it was full but we got seats in 5min. The options are good and the service was great. We got our soups shortly after and they were delicious!! I will be coming back on my next opportunity

We walked in at around ~7 pm on a Saturday and it was looking busy - however, we were seated pretty quickly given there was only 2 of us. Lots of seating inside for different groups, and I appreciate how there was some bar seating that accommodated single patrons. We ordered takoyaki and 2 ramen - I had the regular Tori Paitan while my partner had the God Fire (level 2). You had the option to customize your bowl from beginning to end - from softness of the noodles, saltiness of the broth, extra toppings - this place really reminded me of the local ramen spots we went to when we were in Japan. Despite how busy the restaurant was, the food came out quick!! Takoyaki was delicious and piping hot. The broth for both ramen came out very flavourful and I will say - while my partner loves spicy food and I do not... I cannot imagine what level 4 would taste like, level 2 definitely had a kick! The staff were amazing and navigated a small space so well. We really enjoyed our dinner - we were in and out within an hour. I'll definitely be coming back and would highly recommend!

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

Konjiki is good, far from great, but very solid. The broth has the right consistency with a satisfying richness, falling just a touch short of the deep, creamy intensity I personally look for. The noodles were cooked perfectly, maintaining just the right amount of bite. Nothing ruins a bowl of ramen faster than overcooked noodles. The soft-boiled egg was equally well executed, with a perfectly jammy center, and the chashu had excellent flavor and texture. My biggest criticism isn't what's missing....it's what's added. Like many ramen shops outside Japan, Konjiki includes pickled ginger, pickled takana, and braised bamboo shoots. For me, none of them improve the bowl. In fact, I think they distract from what should be the star of the show: the broth. In hindsight, I could have easily asked for them to be left out, but I've never really understood why they're included in the first place. Even so, this is a very respectable bowl of tonkotsu ramen and one I'd happily order again.
