    Yuzu vegetarian ramen

Great place to get a vegetarian ramen! Delicious broth, chewy noodles and great service!

Stay true to the original House ramen bowl with the spicy bit on top.

Kyouka house ramen + spicy. Don't think twice and just go - the style of noodles is very unique and incomparable with other ramen restaurants. Twisty and easy to chew, paired with a delicious broth - it's a top spot! If only they had a spot closer to downtown Toronto! Hidden gem?

My friends were hungry and wanted something to drink. Then I remembered oh why don't we go check out kyouka it's been a minute since I went back. I remember my first experience was really amazing and then my second experience was pretty flat. I haven't gone back in like 4 years. One of my friends never tried it so it was a good time for an introduction. While I was reciting the beautiful history of the ramen culture scene in Toronto . The server overheard my story and said that I was pretty knowledgeable and accurate. Then he told me he was the owner what a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately I ate some food and was still full so I couldn't try the ramen. Instead I opted for the kaarage wings. It's a perfect combination of sauce and crunch. The wings were moist and tender and the sauce drenched on it was very balanced. 10/10 for the wings. My friend let me tried the broth it was good. I wish I had a larger stomache space. A good find in the beaches area!

I really enjoy the Ramen and the service here. Like most places it can get busy but the staff are very friendly and efficient and seem to get every seated and comfortable really quickly. All the staff are incredibly friendly :) The first time I was here I tried the Kyouka Ramen. Regular Spicy. It was really good. Quite delicious! I enjoyed everything about it. Second time I tried a special Ramen they were advertising. I forgot what it was called but it was about $3 more than the others, so about $16. It was supposed to be spicy and had a bunch of extra items in it. This spicy Ramen came with a little side of extra spicy oil/paste, which I thought was really smart! What some may call "spicy" for others might be mild, so this gave me the option to raise the spicy level as much as I wanted. Neat! As good as this special spicy Ramen was I missed the traditional broth and taste of the Kyouka Ramen I had before. So I highly recommend this place for Ramen, but maybe stick with the Kyouka Ramen or the regular choices.

Pretty good ramen. You're looking at $16-18 a bowl. I got the recommended one and it was delicious. I really liked the fact that my chasu wasn't fatty, it was lean. My husband got the shoyu ramen and enjoyed it too. Keep in mind if you make it fire spicy it's an extra $1. Some tables but it does fill up quick (not enough for a line) we went on a Sunday lunch at 1pm. Hot and fresh... It was delicious on a cold day!

I love ramen. I can eat it every day and not grow tired of it. I'm the type who used to have it for breakfast. Every day. And, I'm not a struggling undergraduate student. I am simply a fan. My friend from Victoria was in town. We both grew up in the Beaches and met in high school. She was staying in our old neighbhourhood and we wanted to get together for dinner. I had flagged Kyouka Ramen for a while and suggested that we go. She was game. You cannot make reservations at this restaurant. It opens at 5:30 pm on a Tuesday night. We decided to meet at 6 pm. I tend to show up early to everything, so I thought that I'd get a table for us. She tends to be late, but I'm so patient that it's not an issue. I recommend parking on a side street. I parked on Beech Avenue. You don't have to think about paying for parking that way. I got to the restaurant at 5:50 pm and it was pretty busy. I was quickly greeted by a woman who looked confused, but I realized as my friend and I dined there that it was just her natural facial expression. Both she and a male staffer led me to a four-seater table. Um, okay. I ordered a Diet Coke to start. I leafed through the menu as I waited for my friend. I'd estimate that at 6:05 pm, the male staffer came over and asked me how long my friend would get here. She had just texted me five minutes ago and said that she as running late. I told him that. He wanted the exact time. It felt awkward. I said that I would text her back. He explained that there were three customers waiting and that my table would be better suited for their needs. I realize that it makes common business sense. Perhaps not seating me at a larger table to start would avoid moving me around as you see fit and not making me feel uncomfortable. He offered the bar area, but I wanted a relaxed setting so that my friend and I could leisurely dine and catch up on our lives. My friend tends to shut off her data after she texts. I knew that she wouldn't be responding. I had to stall. Luckily, the two-seater table next to me had cleared. He came over and said that all was okay. I moved over after he had cleared and cleaned the table. The view was better, so that was a plus. My friend came in about seven minutes later. She can walk fast! She apologized. All was good. We both ordered the shio ramen. It's weird that the menu description starts off with "edible kelp stock." I guess that's good as opposed to the non-edible type?! The portion size is decent. Our food came fairly fast. I appreciated it, as I was hungry! The ramen is thick and wavy. It was delicious. The broth had more oil than I am used to, but it wasn't gross. I frankly didn't taste much flavour in the broth. It was okay. The chashu is thickly sliced. You get two slices. It was different. I normally see some sort of charred part. This one looked like it went into the oven and the meat candy disappeared. Weird! It was tender. I liked the seaweed. The broth tasted better when the seaweed was swimming in it. The egg was okay. It wasn't marinated as much as I would have liked it to be. It also didn't have a whole lot of flavour. For dessert, we ordered ice cream. I went with the black sesame. My friend ordered the green tea. Part of me wanted to ordered each flavour, but it was way too much. I loved the black sesame ice cream. It was creamy and I loved how it tasted. This statement may sound sad, but I loved the ice cream more than the ramen. We stayed at this restaurant for 1.5 hours, laughing and eating. It's cozy once all the craziness dies down at around 7 pm. The washrooms are just past the dangling flag as you walk northbound in the restaurant. There are washroom stalls on either side and are unisex. I wasn't wowed by the ramen. It was okay. The seating drama likely damped my experience here. However, I'd come back and give it another try. The ice cream is worth the return visit. (117)

    Mazemen

The absolute best ramen spot in Toronto. The noodles are exactly like you'd find in Japan. Slightly thicker, chewier and speckled with bits of wheat - which is much more authentic than the yellow noodle ramen shops here usually get. Amazing stuff, must try. Mazemen is amazing. The ramens are amazing, but the tsukemen is just very good (still high praise); tsukemen typically has much thicker noodles, almost like udon. Regardless, this is a ramen shop, not a tsukemen shop.

Enjoyed a nice dinner here on Saturday night after checking out the art installations at Woodbine Beach. Ramen was a great choice as it was so cold outside. It was crowded here, which was a good sign. We were seated at the counter right away; we had a good view of the ramen prep taking place. I ordered the Kyouka Ramen that includes two types of meat (chicken and pork). The broth had a nice flavour, which went well with all the toppings. The noodles were unique as they were thicker than the usual noodles I see in ramen. Patrons around us ordered the karaage (fried chicken); it looked delicious and I regretted not ordering it. Kyouka is in the Beaches, but I'd like to return to try other menu items. Good for: ramen

    The story of Kyouka-ism

"The best authentic" ramen: that statement is such a personalized experience that no one should feel bad expressing their honest feelings toward the food here. Important to read about Kyouka ramen: it's a "new-age Japanese ramen" that " pushed past the traditional boundaries and created a new and dynamic understanding of the making of ramen broth" - excerpt from handout in restaurant. THINGS I LOVED: -Chili paste: not the bottled kind. On close examination you can tell it's home made. I could make a meal out of just this and their delicious rice. -Rice: good rice can make anything taste better! -Ramen noodle: nice texture and mouthfeel with a satisfying chew without being chewy. Would love to try this in one of their dry dishes. -Chicken Cashu: oh so tender and surprisingly smoky DELISH! -Spicy Chicken Donburi - tastes like they mixed their savoury chili paste with ground chicken OH MY! TIPS: - taste the broth right away if it's salty enough remove the black sheet of seaweed. - The chili paste is spicy. Their "mild" spicy was medium to me. You can ask for it on the side then add it in yourself. - order the "fully loaded" version for $4 extra which doubles the toppings if you have a big appetite. - you can order "no fat" if you find their soup too fatty. They have made improvements from previous reviews: coat rack by door but you can also put it on the back of your chair, we sat at the end of the bar by the door which was warm with no drafts (make sure no one's holding the door open) and nice jazz piano music in the background. There are a few menu items that you can order to go but not all. I did appreciate that they separated the soup from the noodles when they wrapped up my leftovers. Sweet attentive staff. Steady stream of both Asian and non-Asian customers alike coming here (Thursday lunch time).

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

Reach ten stamps and you get a free bowl of ramen. - The chashu is excellent! My rating is 4.5 stars. I'm rounding down. Last Tuesday, I had my monthly 7 am meeting with a bunch of technical writing peers from around the world. It's quite the meeting that typically lasts for four hours. Luckily, we ended earlier than usual. It meant that my workday ended at around 3:30 pm. It was perfect, as I had a concert to attend several hours later. Normally, I don't do dinner before a concert. I grab a quick bite to each before I head downtown. This time, since I was done work early, I felt that having an early dinner was worthwhile. I drove downtown and parked in a lot that seems to be my usual spot whenever I'm attending a concert at Massey Hall. My original plan was to find an eatery close to the concert venue. I spotted Hokkaido Ramen Santouka steps away. I wanted ramen! I walked in and there was a sign that said to wait. I had no wait time. A woman and the entire staff greeted me. I asked for a table for me and got one. It was great. Seating between tables and diners is close together. You definitely overhear conversations and you can't help it. The man next to me had stretched his foot under my table. I didn't notice that he was in my space until I uncrossed my leg and my foot hit his. I listened to two friends next to me. The man seemed to take charge over what he and his female friend should eat, which was interesting. He gave the impression that he was an expert until the server came over and he had a ton of questions. It's always fun being an observer and listener. I had no choice but to listen to her dating experiences. I got a menu. I knew what I wanted. My server came over and was ready to take my order. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Miso chachu ramen, with bamboo shoot held - Jammy egg and corn as extra toppings The menu doesn't tell you what ingredients you get in each type of ramen. However, it does come with a photo. I asked how large a large bowl of ramen was. My server was great pointing up to a display of three bowls. I went large. The photo indicated that my miso ramen had bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of them, so I asked that they be omitted. I also added a jammy egg and corn. I got a cold can of Diet Coke. A frosted glass with ice accompanied it. I was happy. I love an icy cold drink. This one was excellent. I loved that it was extra cold. My bowl of ramen had arrived. I was excited to dive in. My miso chachu ramen was delicious. The miso flavour was on point. I drank most of the broth, which speaks volumes on how yummy it was. The chachu was tender and had the best balance of pork and fattiness. The number of slices was generous. The ramen was chewy and perfectly done. I loved the corn and jammy egg. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed my ramen without these two key toppings. They worked nicely with the green onions. What prevents me from giving this place a perfect rating is flagging a server to get me water, or to frankly flag any staffer for something, such as ordering dessert or getting the bill. It took effort and hand-waving to get their attention. It took two tries to get a glass of water with ice. I was happy when I got some after I had finished my Diet Coke. It was equally as cold and yummy. I ordered dessert. The menu is stuck on each table. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There were two flavours and I went with matcha. It was rich, creamy, and full of strong matcha flavour. The scoop of ice cream was generous. I loved the small spoon, which allowed this dessert to last a lot longer. I asked for the bill. I got a payment machine. I used my credit card to pay and tip. All was great. I used the washroom before I headed over to explore the downtown area. The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so accessibility is an issue. There are two single-stall washrooms. The one that I used was clean. Because it's an older building, the ceiling is low. I am just shy of six feet in height. I made it without hitting my head on the ceiling. If you are six feet and taller, you'll need to duck to make sure you don't bang your head. Staff say goodbye to you when you leave. It was a nice touch, although I don't know what they are saying to me in Japanese. They could be swearing at me and I wouldn't know. I had a wonderful experience here. If you don't mind sitting close to folks and waving your arms like a maniac to get your server's attention, come here. This ramen joint appeared as a Michelin place in 2017. I can see why. The food quality is excellent. (200)
