    Pork Shoyu
    Sabrina C.

Family friendly, tasty ramen in Durham region! Food 4.5/5 I got the Karaage Chicken Miso with thin noodles. The noodles were good, and the karaage was seasoned and cooked to perfection! Though the soup was a tad salty for my preference. My partner had the Pork Shoyu with thick noodles. The pork had a smokiness to it, which was nice! The soft boiled egg in both bowls was great with the runny yolk! Our friend got the spicy pork, which was a tad salty as well, but good overall. Service 5/5 Excellent service! We ordered one bowl per adult, and were offered a small bowl and a fork for our toddler. The bowl was plenty filling enough for me to share with our 3yo. Other 3/5 My party and I had arrived for 11:30am opening time, however they were still closed. Around 11:45am, they opened the door to tell us to come back for 12pm.

I recently had an opportunity to dine at J7 Ramen in Whitby and it was pretty good! I had the Spicy Pork Ramen and it was rich in flavour. My friends had the Pork Shoyu Ramen and Karaage Chicken Shoyu Ramen. It was all nicely presented, and very flavourful. The decor was tastefully Japanese without being overdone. The service was very efficient. There were enough interesting items on the menu to entice me to come back.

Service was friendly and prompt. Restaurant was clean and tastefully modern. I ordered the Karaage Chicken Shoyu - chicken was perfectly crispy and delicious, although I was not a fan of the broth. My husband ordered the Spicy Pork, which he said had the right amount of spice (though others might prefer spicier) and pork was delicious. They did not have tea, but have a selection of beers. While we were sitting there, they seemed to do a decent takeout business. Parking in the area is free evenings and weekends.

I was on SkipTheDishes and found this place. I like ramen so I decided to order from here. The first thing that worried me is that they did not have Tonkatsu. They did have shoyu and shio though. We ordered the meal, they had a question about our orders, they seemed pretty nice. We got the meal pretty quickly. The broth was ok, pretty decent. However, the noodles weren't quite right they didn't have the properly cooked text that I am used to eating at a place like Samurai Noodle in Seattle, or Shin-Sen Gumi in LA. The egg was ok. But the noodles were really not good. As a whole it was better than eating instant ramen but it lacked the qualities that I have seen in other ramen places I have eaten around the world. I don't think I would want to go back.

Service was lacking, food was OK, but there are better ramen places for the price in Whitby alone. Decor was the only saving grace.

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

The seafood and tonkotsu broth was rich, savory, and full of flavor. It was a little too salty to drink on its own, but perfect for dipping the noodles. The only thing to note is that the cold noodles stayed quite firm even after sitting in the broth for a while, so if you prefer a softer texture, I would recommend asking for hot noodles instead. The soft-boiled egg was also really good, slightly sweet, chilled, and very flavorful. We also tried the Spicy Red Miso ramen, which was not actually very spicy and leaned a little sweet. The broth was pleasant, though my teammate felt there were so many onions and green onions that they covered some of the miso flavor. The chashu, however, was excellent, with a really nice balance of lean meat and fat without feeling greasy. The takoyaki was classic and well done, crisp on the outside, soft in the middle, with generous pieces of octopus inside. The karaage was also very solid, crispy outside and juicy inside, with a seasoning that had a clear ginger and cooking wine aroma. Overall, a very enjoyable meal, especially if you like rich broths and comforting Japanese side dishes.

The food were great. The broths were light and nicely balanced with flavour, not too salty. The shrimps in the Sapporo Miso Ramen were cooked perfectly but the pork in the Chirashu Ramen was a bit chewy. The soy sauce served with the Agedashi Tofu had a hint of sweetness which was quite refreshing to the palate. I like that Ippon doesn't use MSG for their soup, my little one loves their ramen. They also provide children's bowl and utensils for the kids. Their mochi ice cream is a must get. While the broth was delicious, the added ingredients like kimchi kind of messed with the flavour. I also noticed they used egg noodles, which were pretty chewy as well. I appreciated the fact that they had add ons, like egg and other vegetables. But when I selected Seaweed as an option, I was disappointed to see that it was just two sheets of seaweed. I would've loved for it to be wakame seaweed instead. I also added a side order of the Chicken Karage which was delicious and definitely made fresh! Overall, I wasn't a big fan of the ramen dish itself, and I'm unsure if I will be back. If I do, I may consider doing the Build Your Own Ramen option instead.

The restaurant was at a busy location, which was the end of the driveway, everyone sees it before making a turn. The staff was nice when we walked in. We were greeted and directed to a corner table where was better with a baby. We showed them 2 coupons, 1 for ramen and 1 for fried chicken. The staff needed to talk to the owner about them. After a few seconds, she came back and said only 1 coupon per visit. We were a bit disappointed, because we were so hard to dine out with a baby, and not able to come again with a long drive and a baby. We talked to their owner, he was nice to let us try both at the same time. Oh yeah! So we have 1 original ramen with black garlic oil, and 1 tomato base. It won't take long to wait. The fried chicken came first, it was not like the breaded chicken, it fried from original, but after marinated; it has taste, but not salty. The 2 ramen came at the same time. They both really rich, but not so salty, because the salt level could be altered; the noodle size could be chosen as well, we did 1 thick and 1 thin. They both looked similar.
