My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

The pork char siu slices were very thin, and for the price, it didn't really feel worth it. Flavor-wise it was okay, but nothing beyond expectations. The chicken karaage was even more overpriced. $9.2 for just 4 small pieces - so basically ~$2.5 a bite, not worth it. Overall, it didn't really aligned with our expectations. We thought it was in a corner of the plaza so the price would have been reasonable, turned out that it wasn't really. Probably wouldn't revisit. Spicy white sesame shio (4/5) - I thought the flavour was good except the meat was a little lacking. Black sesame tantan (3/5) - This was probably the weakest out of all the ramen we got, not bad but also not too good. Stone bowl shoyu (4/5) - This one had the best flavour and there were lots of toppings. There's less broth compared to noodles though so if prefer more soup, then this might not be for you. Service was quick and food came out fairly quickly after placing the order. Not a big space but there's enough tables. We went during lunch and it was empty.

Hokkaido Ramen Santouka is a very famous ramen brand with more than 50 restaurants globally. I feel…read morea bit embarrassed that I haven't been to any of them. Its menu already shows its uniqueness: its signature ramen is shio ramen, which simply means salt ramen. Unlike other ramen restaurants that often promote their strong and heavy-flavoured pork broth, Santouka just says "salty broth." I think it really reflects Japanese culture and spirit. The chef's craftsmanship shows that using simple ingredients is enough to make flavorful food. I ordered the Shio Ramen and an Aji-tama (medium-boiled egg). It still had a very strong savoury flavour and wasn't too salty at all. To be honest, it tasted like pork broth to me. Whatever it was, it made me feel comfortable while having the ramen and after the meal. Meals at other ramen restaurants are usually too salty. Sorry, I am playing with words here, because it is interesting that the "salty broth" isn't too salty, while other broths are usually saltier. The branch in Scarborough is spacious and very suitable for dining with family, friends, or even business associates. The plaza it is in is a very competitive area for noodle cuisine. You can add Hokkaido Ramen Santouka to your radar the next time you go there.

We both ordered the Shoyu Tsuke-men - soy sauce flavour dipping noodles with bits of pork and pork fat and a soft boiled egg. I really liked the texture of the thick noodles and found the soup very flavourful. Portion was also generous. This pictured here is only the regular size! I would definitely come again for a quick meal. The soup ramen also looked great though I noticed it was a much thinner noodle.

Interior is pretty nice with a couple tables available for small to medium size groups. Staff is pretty friendly and orders came in on time. Food I'll be honest, I'm not exactly sure how their ramen is different from other chains - but I do like the fact that they have a lot of different seasonal menu items to try. A little while back they had their gyudon ramen and matcha ramen - which was very unique from anything I've experienced. The gyudon was literally like the rice version, but they have it with noodles. It's a little oily after a while cause the way you make it. But quite comforting and heavy for big eaters. Matcha ramen was alright - didn't feel it was anything specialy, but they use duck pieces rather than pork cha siu. It had a better balance that way and didn't felt too heavy. Pricing wise is pretty standard now with inflation. Nice place that it's close to me, but I don't see myself coming too often though.

I ended up with just the one and I enjoyed it but wished there was more garlic flavour and other items. This is probably the most expensive ramen I've ever had (I didn't order additional toppings but went with kale noodles). I also ordered the vegetarian app platter (tofu nuggets, edamame, and purple yam fries were good and simple). The bowl comes with 5 slices of duck, nori, a small naruto fish cake, 2 small slices of crunch lotus, and green onion. I wish there were more of the cakes and the lotus chips The place itself was very tiny and fills up fast - it's recommended you call or book a reservation so there's less wait time.
