Summer special
Mei Lan M.

Came here on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was pretty full. We were lucky to get the last table. We ordered the pork gyoza, veggie gyoza and the summer special, which includes choice of drink, Tokyo fries and a simple ramen with choice of type of broth. The gyozas were good, I definitely preferred the pork over the veggie. For my drink I chose the blue raspberry lemonade, which I found to be too sweet for my taste. The ramen itself was yummy as always, as were the fries. I was comfortably full after. The restaurant has a nice relaxed atmosphere. Service was quick and efficient. My friends and I enjoyed ourselves.

The restaurant is always clean, and well spaced from one table to the other. We enjoyed veggie ramen. I always get the spicy one with thick noodles when we go to this place. The spicy chicken that's fried is excellent, and quite spicy. We tried the cheesecake which I have to say is just average. The dumplings also I think are kinda just average. The service has always been good and we can't wait to go back here.

Haven't been to a Kinton in a while, and first time at this location. Wasn't too busy on a weeknight. Chill and young atmosphere. Service was fast and friendly. Ordered the seasonal special - Burnt Shoyu Ramen (with Karaage add-on), and a Pork Donburi. The Burnt Shoyu ramen was very tasty. Smoky, burnt flavour comes through and a nice thick meaty broth. The Chicken Karaage add-on was only supposed to have 2 pieces, but I got 3, so that felt like a bonus. The Pork Donburi also very flavourful. Too flavourful, felt it was a little too salty. Overall I was pleased with the experience, and would probably come again.

Love Kinton's chicken karaages, big juicy chicken chunks, only if it could be less salty. Gyoza was tasty too, even yummier with the special sauce added. This place is spacious, great service. If you like ramen you won't go wrong with any Kinton spot.

Giving 2 stars for this review due to the fact the pork shoyu broth tastes so bland today. Not sure if the batch I got is not made right but I had to ask for additional soy sauce to add flavour. I usually get Shoyu ramen and this ain't it... Note that this is based on today's visit and not affecting other visits.

Kinton Ramen always has a sense of family behind it, from the BOH Line Cooks to the FOH serving staff. It has a nice home-feel that just can't be beat in comparison to other ramen establishments. I also want to say that depending on the day of the week as well as the time of the day, however, it can be quite busy and as a result the noise levels will tank as well (just something to keep in mind when planning your visit). Other than that, the space itself is very well up-kept and makes you want to come back for more. Cheers to two very key members of the serving staff, Alex and Rachel, I strongly believe that the both of you should be promoted soon!

Pork Spicy Garlic ramen with an added egg

Love some good ramen, especially on a cold day! I went to Kinton over the weekend and got their Pork Spicy Garlic ramen, which was phenomenal. They garish it with about a tablespoon of grated garlic on top. As a garlic fiend, I approve! It was spicy, it was garlicky, and I couldn't help but drink all of the broth! The staff is attentive and friendly, and the restaurant is a really good size. Overall, I had a great time. Good food and good service. I'll have to try some of their other ramen next time!

Spicy beef brisket ramen

Went during a week night to try one of their new menu items / specials - the spicy beef brisket ramen. More than half the restaurant was seated during our dinner service. The beef brisket bowl might be my new favourite at Kinton. The spice level has a great kick - spicier than their usual spicy ramens The brisket appears torched as well, has a nice smoky taste to it. Overall really happy with the meal.

[Review was based on experience weeks ago] Came here after class to fill a quick ramen fix. The chicken shoyu ramen I got was really flavorful and yummy but the one star off rating was due to the kaarage. I wish it had more flavor but it tasted a bit bland for me and I felt like the portion did not reflect the price well. Service was above standard, they gave us enough time to let us order and the food came relatively fast. I would come back, if in the aream to try their other ramen!

Location/Service This place is right outside the highway 401 Kennedy exit. It's by the series of plaza that has Foody World and Jollibee - right beside Tim Hortons to be exact. Interior is the same as other Kinton chains - wooden seating and modern lightning/ambience. They have limited patio seating right outside the restaurant and have separated limited indoor seating that's socially distanced. Staff were nice and friendly, orders were a little slow. Twice when I ordered for takeout, I still needed to wait at the time of expected pickup. Food Consistent to their other chain locations. My first order was their standard Pork Shoyu ramen - good quantity and quality was a bit on the fatter side as expected. Pork was cooked right (again a bit on the fatter end) and egg was perfect. My second order was their Summer Special - Immune Ramen. It's chicken broth based that's heavy on ginger and garlic. Chicken meat was good and not tough and egg was also perfect. The broth, cause of the ginger, was heavier tasting and may not suit everyone - but I think it fits its description to have good immunity against colds. Kinton is a nice go to place if you need a late night meal (which is what I needed) and I really appreciate their service during the covid time and offering nice messages on their takeout boxes.

Gyoza (Pork), Pork Shoyu Ramen, Kimchi and Diet Coke

My go to ramen spot in Scarborough. Lovely atmosphere with quick service. The ambiance is nice, and not too loud. The flavours are excellent and all work well together. The sauce on the gyoza was sweet and salty, so good! The kimchi was just the right spice and worked well with the ramen.

First time in this location. Mostly eat downtown where I work. Ordered Pork Spicy Garlic, Pork Miso, Original Karrage This is so far the biggest location I have visited into. But I missed ramen bar seating which I can watch my ramen made it so hot. Little disappointed with the Pork Spicy Garlic soup which the garlic flavour was not as balanced as the other location. Think pork slice is still as juicy tender and miso soup base thumbs up Original karaage has to much of the garlic kick

Last weekend, I was fighting off a cold. What comforts me when I am sick is noodles in soup. Give me pho or ramen, and I am much happier. It also helps that I love both. I have flagged visiting this Kinton Ramen location for a while. I have been to the one in Mississauga a handful of times, simply because I work in that city and it's not a huge drive over there from my workplace. This Kinton Ramen is in Scarborough, in a plaza a good minute away from Kennedy Commons by car. I had no problems nabbing a spot at around 11:30 am on a Monday, even with a Tim Horton's next door. I have noticed that I enjoy coming to a ramen place when it first opens for lunch. It's rare that I can perform this feat. I did it at Sapa House in Dallas, and now, Kinton Ramen in Scarborough. I was immediately greeted by all staff when I first walked in. I was immediately seated at a quaint table. There were already a couple of hungry customers there. I was impressed. I ordered the original pork ramen. I added a marinated egg for an extra loonie. I also made it a combo by adding the age gyoza. My server filled up my glass with water promptly during my entire dining experience. I liked it. My age gyoza came first. As always, it was yummy. The filing was spot on and they were pan-fried to perfection. My original pork ramen came next. I went with wavy noodles. The noodles were chewy and perfect. The marinated egg hit the spot. I loved the corn and green onions. The only downside was a ton of ground pepper in the broth. As someone who had a cold, it irritated my throat, so I did not slurp the broth down. Other than that minor detail, the ramen was consistent from my past experiences at Kinton. You can pay by cash, and credit and debit cards. I paid using a credit card and had no issues. The women's washroom is a single stall. I loved the pig mirror in there. It made me smile. The washroom was clean. I will come back to give the chicken ramen a try. Here's hoping that there isn't a ton of ground pepper in that! I'm pleased that Kinton Ramen is closer to my home, to accommodate my ramen cravings. (190)

The matcha cheesecake and black sesame pudding were good.

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

Reach ten stamps and you get a free bowl of ramen. - The chashu is excellent! My rating is 4.5 stars. I'm rounding down. Last Tuesday, I had my monthly 7 am meeting with a bunch of technical writing peers from around the world. It's quite the meeting that typically lasts for four hours. Luckily, we ended earlier than usual. It meant that my workday ended at around 3:30 pm. It was perfect, as I had a concert to attend several hours later. Normally, I don't do dinner before a concert. I grab a quick bite to each before I head downtown. This time, since I was done work early, I felt that having an early dinner was worthwhile. I drove downtown and parked in a lot that seems to be my usual spot whenever I'm attending a concert at Massey Hall. My original plan was to find an eatery close to the concert venue. I spotted Hokkaido Ramen Santouka steps away. I wanted ramen! I walked in and there was a sign that said to wait. I had no wait time. A woman and the entire staff greeted me. I asked for a table for me and got one. It was great. Seating between tables and diners is close together. You definitely overhear conversations and you can't help it. The man next to me had stretched his foot under my table. I didn't notice that he was in my space until I uncrossed my leg and my foot hit his. I listened to two friends next to me. The man seemed to take charge over what he and his female friend should eat, which was interesting. He gave the impression that he was an expert until the server came over and he had a ton of questions. It's always fun being an observer and listener. I had no choice but to listen to her dating experiences. I got a menu. I knew what I wanted. My server came over and was ready to take my order. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Miso chachu ramen, with bamboo shoot held - Jammy egg and corn as extra toppings The menu doesn't tell you what ingredients you get in each type of ramen. However, it does come with a photo. I asked how large a large bowl of ramen was. My server was great pointing up to a display of three bowls. I went large. The photo indicated that my miso ramen had bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of them, so I asked that they be omitted. I also added a jammy egg and corn. I got a cold can of Diet Coke. A frosted glass with ice accompanied it. I was happy. I love an icy cold drink. This one was excellent. I loved that it was extra cold. My bowl of ramen had arrived. I was excited to dive in. My miso chachu ramen was delicious. The miso flavour was on point. I drank most of the broth, which speaks volumes on how yummy it was. The chachu was tender and had the best balance of pork and fattiness. The number of slices was generous. The ramen was chewy and perfectly done. I loved the corn and jammy egg. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed my ramen without these two key toppings. They worked nicely with the green onions. What prevents me from giving this place a perfect rating is flagging a server to get me water, or to frankly flag any staffer for something, such as ordering dessert or getting the bill. It took effort and hand-waving to get their attention. It took two tries to get a glass of water with ice. I was happy when I got some after I had finished my Diet Coke. It was equally as cold and yummy. I ordered dessert. The menu is stuck on each table. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There were two flavours and I went with matcha. It was rich, creamy, and full of strong matcha flavour. The scoop of ice cream was generous. I loved the small spoon, which allowed this dessert to last a lot longer. I asked for the bill. I got a payment machine. I used my credit card to pay and tip. All was great. I used the washroom before I headed over to explore the downtown area. The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so accessibility is an issue. There are two single-stall washrooms. The one that I used was clean. Because it's an older building, the ceiling is low. I am just shy of six feet in height. I made it without hitting my head on the ceiling. If you are six feet and taller, you'll need to duck to make sure you don't bang your head. Staff say goodbye to you when you leave. It was a nice touch, although I don't know what they are saying to me in Japanese. They could be swearing at me and I wouldn't know. I had a wonderful experience here. If you don't mind sitting close to folks and waving your arms like a maniac to get your server's attention, come here. This ramen joint appeared as a Michelin place in 2017. I can see why. The food quality is excellent. (200)
