Its picnic style so when it gets busy you share with other patrons of the restaurant. Overall the ramen is not bad, flavourful broth and the noodles are well made. However, the portions are really small and it only comes with 2 thin pieces of meat and a few pieces of bamboo shoots and a small egg. After a few times coming back, it's definitely not my favorite ramen place anymore. The broth is much too salty for our taste. My mouth is always feeling a bit weird after. While it's still a good bowl of noodles, it's not my go to choice. I will say, I like the tonkotsu black with thin noodles. The soft boiled eggs are perfect every time. The bathrooms need work. One is always out of order which I think was their COVID response to make sure only one occupant at a time. But it's still labeled that way. So either they never fixed it or they just aren't allowing patrons to use the second bathroom. It makes no sense given how many people they can seat. Imagine two people have a bathroom emergency. Also, inside the bathroom stalls are only lit up by this weird back wall decor piece. It's not enough light. You can't tell if the toilet seat is clean and there's also no where to hang your purse. Came here on Saturday lunch time. The place was full, and we waited for about 5 mins. Ordered: MISO BLACK TOMATO TONKOTSU BLACK Gyoza with green onion and ginger The gyoza was OK, nothing special. A plenty of chopped green onion pieces were sprinkled over Gyoza, which added refreshing taste, flavor and texture. But the chopping skill was so armature and rough. Also from the way gyoza tasted (both the skin and filling), I thought it was cooked from frozen. I may be wrong. Definitely not freshly-made quality. All the ramens arrived somewhat warm, not hot. That was disappointing to me. The Tonkotu and Miso broth tasted great, but wished it would have come with hot-hot soup! One of the meat pieces on the Miso ramen had a strong Chinese herb scent, the meat itself is good, but is unsuitable for typical Japanese style ramen. The small shiitake pieces were also untypical and I did not think they were a good match for the Tonkotsu ramen. I heard that Tomato was one of the most popular ramens in the restaurant. I was very curious about this ramen, because Tomato ramen is never the "most popular" item in Japan. The broth was thick, but somewhat lacking. And it was a bit too sweet to my liking. Yet, the Chashu (meat slice) was tasty, and eggs were cooked perfectly with the custardy jammy egg yolk and umami flavor. When I tugged on the door handle, I was relieved that it was open. I had the nicest woman help fetch my order. I said my name and mentioned that I had an Uber Eats order. It was ready. She was so kind by wishing me a great evening. I reciprocated and left with my food. I had one more errand to do before I headed home. When I got home, I was more than ready for dinner. Everything was meticulously packed and labelled in the bag. It was impressive! I asked that the broth be separated from the ramen. I started with the gyoza. You get five in a box. I had a box for dinner and the other one the following day. Each gyoza was pan-fried. The wrapper was thin and it had the right amount of pork filling. I loved each one. The dipping sauce sealed the deal. Delicious! I then added the broth to my ramen. I loved the garlic oil in this tonkotsu black ramen. It was perfect. By default, it came with chashu, black fungus, egg, and green onion. It is my favourite combination in ramen. I added more chashu because more pork is best. I also love corn that it had to be a part of my ramen. So good and comforting on a soggy evening. I had a slice of the yuzu cheesecake. Cheesecake at ramen places tends to be a tiny little wedge. I like this portion size when I've devoured a bowl of ramen. I realized with this BOGO that two cheesecake slices together make up a regular slice elsewhere... haha! I love yuzu. Also take into consideration that this was just COVID times, so only about half the tables were occupied. They do have a wait-list, but we were seated pretty quickly since I guess the people on the wait-list gave up on waiting (lucky us!). Food quality and taste here is pretty good. Their ramens offer either thin or thick noodles and the broth is flavourful, matching well with the toppings. Chasiu is thicker than most places and egg was kinda cold in the middle, but that's okay. We also wanted the slow cooked wings, but they were sold out by then (we were there around 8pm on a Sunday). Got the karaage instead and it was really yummy! It wasn't dry at all. The staff were very diligent with this and even asked me to provide proof of vaccination with my birthdate on it. For a Thursday night, it was a pretty packed restaurant. As we were leaving, there was a line out the door. I ordered the Tonkotsu with thick noodle and my boyfriend ordered the Spicy Tan Tan with thick noodle. We ordered a side of extra noodles knowing the usual portions are never enough. Both bowls of ramen were so good. The broth wasn't too salty, the noodles were nice and chewy and there was a fair portion of meat. Normally I rate Sansotei Ramen quite highly, as I frequent the Toronto locations, however, the Markham location does not seem to be on par with the others. Located at the Hwy 7/Birchmount location, the plaza has a decent number of parking spaces. However, many of the spaces have a time limit of only 30 mins, but when I parked there for Saturday lunch, they didn't seem to enforce that rule. The restaurant was really busy for Saturday lunch and there were a few small groups ahead of us. The wait was about 15mins to get a table since customers usually finish their ramen pretty quickly, so it wasn't too big of an issue. We ordered a bowl of Tonkotsu and a bowl of Tonkotsu Black ramen. I specifically told the waiter for less salt and he wrote it down, but it didn't seem like the kitchen followed my request, as the soup turned out really salty that I didn't want to drink any of that after I had finished the noodles. I got my usual thick noodles and the texture of the noodles here seemed harder than the other Sansotei places, which I didn't like as much. Finally, the pork Chashu had a strange taste to it that felt kinda stale, and that was a huge red flag for me. Overall, the quality of the ramen here just wasn't on par with the other locations in Toronto, and I would definitely not return to this location in the future. But with that being said, the Sansotei brand still makes really good ramen, just this location felt off putting. read more

Craving Ramen for dinner so decided to go to Sansotei Ramen. I came on a Thursday evening and put my name down since they were full. Mentioned it was about 15 - 20 min wait but we waited around half an hour. I recommend to plan your visit and anticipate the wait so you don't get Hangry. Once the text came in, I was seated fairly quickly. Collected the proof of vaccine and scanned the covid questionnaire. One tiny downside is that the ramen took long to come. The gyoza also came when I was almost finish with my ramen. For the food, I got the Shoyu and the Tomato. My go-to ramen is always Shoyu but wanted to try the Tomato for the Hokkaido Scallop. Let me start with the Tomato. The broth had good flavour and very savoury. It was also thick and you can taste the richness of the tomato. The scallop is incredibly massive. I recommend you to try this if you're a big fan of tomato soup. The Shoyu on the other hand, is normal. Not the best, but not the worst. The Gyoza had good wrapping. It was put together well and the texture was just right. Only downside is the filling. They could add a bit more. Overall, this place is not the best, but it's definitely not the worst. I've tried a couple ramen places in my life but this place was actually a standout. My broth was pretty flavourful but my friend's soup was way tastier. That garlic oil makes all the difference. Always get the garlic oil. I now know this. Also, our broths weren't too salty as other reviews have mentioned. I opted for the thin noodles as the server said the thicker noodles were a bit chewier. Noodles were great and just the right about. My friend and I were both stuffed after but I did manage to finish all the noodles. I couldn't finish the pork though. We use to always dine in in the downtown location, but since moving uptown, we were happy to know that Sansotei was also in the markham area so whenever we had a hankering for soupy bowl of ramen, its close by. Our go to is always the tonkatsu black and the tan tan ramen. Tonkatsu black is super flavourful and it comes with a good amount of pork belly, bamboo shoots and egg. Noodles are always nice and bouncy and is never overcooked. The tantan ramen has a nice spice and the ground pork is cooked nicely in the mix, definitely a go to if you're feeling a little spicy. Chicken Karaage is also delicious, wish there was more in an order (only comes with about 4-5 pieces), but it never disappoints. Service is also always great. read more

I ordered the tonkotsu ramen with bamboo shoots and extra noodles (thick) as well as a side of Zangi (marinated karaage). Overall the bowl was meh, but I've outlined how I thought of each individual part of the bowl. Broth 1.5/5: The broth tasted very weak. It lacked a lot of umami and pork flavors, making the whole broth taste almost watered down. It didn't taste bad by any means but also didn't taste much like a nice tonkotsu. Mouth feel was about average, so they may be using too much trotters and not enough bones like back or neck. Tare 3/5: The tare on it's own tastes about average, but it could definitely use a lot more umami to make up for the below average broth. On any other broth it would be fine but because the broth is so weak it doesn't do much to help. I'd imagine the stronger tasting tares, like the shoyu or miso, would be a lot better. Will definitely try ordering one of those two next time. Aromatic Oil 4/5: The oil definitely made up for the lack of flavor in the broth. I'd imagine that most of the pork flavors coming from the ramen bowl is from the oil which is probably just lard. It helps to save the bowl overall. Toppings 3/5: Some toppings were okay while some I didn't like. The kikurage and green onions both tasted fine, but the bamboo shoots had a bitter taste to them which I really didn't like. The chashu pork didn't really taste like most chashu's I've had. The chashu flavor reminded me of Carnitas of all things. Not a bad flavor on its own but didn't really fit in with the ramen. The ajitama however was great, definitely one of the better tasting toppings on the menu. I also ordered kaedama (extra noodles) thinking the bowl wouldn't be enough to fill me up. Definitely next time I'll order my kaedama after I finish the first set of noodles since it was plenty to fill me up. Noodles 3/5: I ordered the thick noodles which was a mistake. You can definitely taste a lot more flavor (mostly from the kansui) from these noodles but it doesn't work too well with the weaker tasting broth. These noodles are better for stronger broths or tsukemen. Ordering the thin noodles next time. Sides: The Zangi was good. Not the best but also not bad. Next time I'll order a ramen with a stronger tare (black miso or shoyu), or the brothless ramen (mazemen limited time special). read more

The black oil adds an extra kick to the thick and dense pork soup base, which is the reason why I cannot resist finishing the whole bowl of soup every time.
